We made a special trip from Rochester to visit our favorite tea company, and once again Harney & Sons delivered an exceptional experience from start to finish. We reserved a private room for our lunch party, which made the whole visit feel relaxed and personal. We started with pots of Peach White Tea and Salted Caramel Black Tea -- both brewed perfectly and a great way to ease into the afternoon. For appetizers, the Tea Cheese Toasts were very yummy, but the Okonomi Tater Tots absolutely stole the show. Tater tots with okonomi sauce, Kewpie mayo, furikake, and scallions shouldn't be allowed to be this good. Our sandwiches -- the Croque Monsieur and the Teagan -- were delightful and well executed. And then came the scones. Warm, tender, and served with clotted cream and strawberry jam, they were the perfect finish. Service throughout lunch was impeccable, attentive without ever feeling rushed. After eating, we headed into the shop for a tasting and some browsing. The tasting room team guided us through Winter White Earl Grey, Rose Scented, Scottish Morn, and Pu‑Erh, helping us zero in on teas we'd love. The shop itself is beautifully organized, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We've been fans of Harney & Sons for years, and this visit reminded us exactly why we keep coming back. Harney and Sons is my favorite Tea Company. It's a New York State Company. I've been ordering from their website and from other online stores. I've tried so many flavors but my staple these days is the Peppermint. It's the easiest on my stomach while helping me stay hydrated. Check out this location or any of the other stores. This location is convenient when I go to upstate New York and Connecticut. I can definitely recommend online shopping. It's is excellent from ordering to delivery. My tea was received timely and well packaged. I'm highly recommending Harney and Sons. We have been buyers of Harney Teas for years however recently there has been a decline in quality. The Japanese Sencha and Peppermint offerings have more tea dust that ruin a morning cup. It's all in the presentation. I come here at least once a year, and each time it's a different, though lovely, experience, with things always "tweaked" just a little differently. Once there was a full tasting room, once I dined in the private room with the extended Harney family as waiters, several times in the dining area, which has been reconfigured each time. What is solidly expected however, is delicious food, fabulous teas, friendly staff and a charming gift shop. As big as the Harney name has gotten, this location remains small, quaint and charming. A pleasant quick visit to get stocking stuffers and then to visit the rest of this cute but strong, reliable village, with friendly, sophisticated, shopkeepers, selling all my vices; books, antiques, wine and coffee. If you are looking for a great big event to happen, drive south; about 70 miles. Otherwise, button up your coat, put on your knit cap and enjoy a non pretentious outing with some good tea; an ever expending and creative company. read more

Harney tea is my most favorite tea and I love visiting Millerton to enjoy the town's shops, and we always like to stop at Harney. The tea shop has great varieties available and plenty of gifts for any tea lover in your life. It is sad that the tea tasting room has not reopened after Covid. One of the employees told me it was due to a shortage of help. On a recent visit, there were a few things that were disappointing about the cafe experience. My mother and sister joined me for the meal and after a short wait, we were able to procure a table. There are very few tables in the cafe and they are first-come-first-served. We ordered off the specials menu and my family members were very happy with their Blue Harvest Salad that was chopped cabbage and radicchio along with green apple, blue cheese, candied pecans topped with a maple tahini dressing. Unfortunately, I chose the Crispy Chinese Pork Belly, which was advertised as sticky soy glazed pork belly served with veggies and brown rice. The rice was white and the pork belly was so hard and tasteless that I couldn't even finish it. I expected crunchy but I thought I was going to break a tooth biting into the pork belly. Because the tea is the star of the show, we ordered a pot of chai tea. However, we were half way through our meal but the tea had not been served. I went up to the counter and learned they had forgotten about serving it to us. We finally received it and it was delicious, but it was disappointing that it was so late. I will definitely return to the shop but I'm not sure the cafe on a Saturday afternoon is an experience I want to repeat. Longtime Harney & Sons lover and finally made it to this adorable little shop! They had a summer tea available for sampling. I ended up purchasing some loose tea and a jar of marmalade jam. It was all so delicious. There was a cozy seating area where you could enjoy your treats. Although I couldn't stay, I made sure to grab a refreshing lavender lemonade, complete with a cucumber slice. This used to be a charming experience. Once a destination, the tasting room enabled you to experience teas you've not sampled before to find something new to love. You'd chat and learn then purchase something wonderful to take home. The cafe was a lovely light lunch after sampling and shopping. The tasting room is closed and according to staff rarely opens. The cafe is missing half the tables and bar seating in favor of to go options. The only thing that saves this is the ability to get a cup of tea to go and the instant gratification of leaving with the teas you love and not waiting for shipping; otherwise it's become just another store. read more

I was there years ago, but still remember. I used to be a big fan of Tevana in the malls. I loved being able to see and smell the loose teas in the big containers. When Tevana closed, I was sad. I didn't spend a whole lot of money there because it was expensive, but I liked what I got. H&S is a goldmine of teas. You can buy the loose teas by the pound, and also in the tins like you see in the grocery store, but there are so many more options. There is little a gift shop with tea paraphernalia, and other cute things. There is also a little restaurant where you can have lunch and of course tea. The store is in a small little town, but I don't remember there being a whole lot to do there; remember the smell of the Chinese food place next door. Definitely worth checking out if you are a tea lover. read more

My son and I drove from Albany to have some tea and lunch in September. We ended up purchasing $91 worth of tea. The young lady at the checkout insisted the charge did not process and asked for my credit card back. When I checked my bank, they had charged me twice. Then they never appropriately got back to me and also told my bank the charge was legitimate. These people are scammers. Makes their teeth taste bad. I ordered items for Christmas on December 10th and it appeared they would arrive in time for me to wrap them and mail them out to loved ones. I could not have been more wrong. They weren't on my doorstep until late 12/22 and now won't arrive at their final destination via Fed Ex express until 12/28 (at an exorbitant shipping cost). I'm very disappointed with Harney & Sons. I went to Harney & Sons to purchase tea. They have a policy that will allow you to taste test one tea, if you have the time. The array of tea they carry will astound you. They have your favorite tea, blended teas, fruit teas, herbal teas, etc. They also carry the accoutrements you will need to prepare and serve your tea at home or work. Harney & Sons was a wonderful experience. We're from out of town and visiting family. While staying in Ridgefield, Connecticut we decided to take a drive out to Harney & Sons. We'd heard great things. Disappointed to find the tea tasting has not resumed since COVID. (To Mgmt: I think it's time). We had lunch at their shop. It's this little tiny place with all of 3 tables. Creative yet limited menu. Their Brigitte Sandwich was delightful. It's a french baguette with butter & your choice of prosciutto or ham. We had the prosciutto and it was superb. The teas were perfectly prepared. We agreed, PARIS Tea was the winner of the day. Several deserts to select from. Might I recommend the bread pudding. You will not be disappointed. What a wonderful experience, to be repeated again, very soon. We purchased several teas at their tea shop. There selection is amazing. We have been brewing our teas at home and truly enjoying the experience on a daily basis. We'll be back again, very soon. Awesome experience. Cool shop and tea room. We sat in the separate room which was so quaint, intimate, and peaceful. Made the entire experience. We had two pots of tea. One green and one puerh. They were both steeped perfectly and I was shocked at the taste as I've only had flavored Harney & Sons tea. We got the tater tots appetizer and bread and cheese. Absolute restaurant quality. Harney's teas are generally poor quality. The stupid teabags are just powder. Actually you can buy quality whole-leaf teas but they drastically overprice anything worth drinking. And teabags?? This place is a marketing/sales gig that puts a bad product in a pretty tin, slapped with a stupid name. But, hey, just give me some powdery brown stuff in a teabag because I really like the blue/brown branding. Fancy. And they buy their way onto menus everywhere. If I see the Harney name on a menu, I suggest to the waitstaff that they are selling jasmine flavoured gun powder. If you want REAL quality tea, look at JB Peel's in Red Hook. No gimmicks, just high quality whole-leaf teas. I buy Assam, Ceylon OP (Orange Pekoe), and Lapsang Suchong by the pound there. JB Peel sets the standard. Absolutely phenomenal experience! I spent a long time in the tea room, and the guy that was working there had a ton of patience and knowledge to share. I also got a tour of the factory and free samples! I stayed for lunch, which consisted of quality salmon! I intend to go back. I had this tea at a hospital cafeteria in Westchester. I haven't seen this on the West coast. If you buy it online, they only sell it by the case. Live Chat help has been offline for days. The website should list stores where their products could be found. They sweeten the tea with cane sugar or honey but it isn't as sweet as Southern iced tea.
