It's all in the presentation. I come here at least once a year, and each time it's a different, though lovely, experience, with things always "tweaked" just a little differently. Once there was a full tasting room, once I dined in the private room with the extended Harney family as waiters, several times in the dining area, which has been reconfigured each time. What is solidly expected however, is delicious food, fabulous teas, friendly staff and a charming gift shop. As big as the Harney name has gotten, this location remains small, quaint and charming. A pleasant quick visit to get stocking stuffers and then to visit the rest of this cute but strong, reliable village, with friendly, sophisticated, shopkeepers, selling all my vices; books, antiques, wine and coffee. If you are looking for a great big event to happen, drive south; about 70 miles. Otherwise, button up your coat, put on your knit cap and enjoy a non pretentious outing with some good tea; an ever expending and creative company.

Harney tea is my most favorite tea and I love visiting Millerton to enjoy the town's shops, and we always like to stop at Harney. The tea shop has great varieties available and plenty of gifts for any tea lover in your life. It is sad that the tea tasting room has not reopened after Covid. One of the employees told me it was due to a shortage of help. On a recent visit, there were a few things that were disappointing about the cafe experience. My mother and sister joined me for the meal and after a short wait, we were able to procure a table. There are very few tables in the cafe and they are first-come-first-served. We ordered off the specials menu and my family members were very happy with their Blue Harvest Salad that was chopped cabbage and radicchio along with green apple, blue cheese, candied pecans topped with a maple tahini dressing. Unfortunately, I chose the Crispy Chinese Pork Belly, which was advertised as sticky soy glazed pork belly served with veggies and brown rice. The rice was white and the pork belly was so hard and tasteless that I couldn't even finish it. I expected crunchy but I thought I was going to break a tooth biting into the pork belly. Because the tea is the star of the show, we ordered a pot of chai tea. However, we were half way through our meal but the tea had not been served. I went up to the counter and learned they had forgotten about serving it to us. We finally received it and it was delicious, but it was disappointing that it was so late. I will definitely return to the shop but I'm not sure the cafe on a Saturday afternoon is an experience I want to repeat. Perhaps on a slow day, we might have more attention from the wait staff.

Was not expecting such a small spot. The tea selection to purchase was awesome but it really was sad they don't offer tasting in the tasting room. I feel that needs to come back to make it worthwhile for a return visit. The service was pleasant especially in the gift shop side. Could use some sprucing up on the patio as it looked run down. I love the teas but was not inspired from this visit to make the trek back.

Longtime Harney & Sons lover and finally made it to this adorable little shop! They had a summer tea available for sampling. I ended up purchasing some loose tea and a jar of marmalade jam. It was all so delicious. There was a cozy seating area where you could enjoy your treats. Although I couldn't stay, I made sure to grab a refreshing lavender lemonade, complete with a cucumber slice. I'll definitely return next time I'm in town!

Great food and excellent service. Was busy but they were very friendly. Tea is excellent and the mushroom puff I had was great.

I had hoped for a higher end shopping experience. Lots of touristy trinkets that had nothing to do with tea

Shop online to save the most money, but if you're in a pinch and need tea? Go on a weekday when it's less crowded.

I also ordered a jalapeño cheese scone. I was told it was locally baked and had my hopes up, but while its flavor was good it was doughy. The ambience here is nice. It's quaint and quiet. They have counter service. Service speed was good. I've attached my copy of the receipt. I felt very "nickel and dimed." I mean, $1.50 for a smear of cream cheese?? On the plus side, the espresso is great! Their bean has a tiny bit of bitterness blended with the right amount of sweetness. I'd stop by here for the coffee every time. But if I was hungry, I'd get that coffee to go and eat elsewhere. Bon appétit.

Now, if you ask for a substitute type of bread on a sandwich, they'll say no. And the attitude? This is the worst example of poor customer service ever. I didn't hear my mocha being called because it was very noisy, but I got up and picked up the wrong drink, and when I returned it (because it wasn't mine) the young lady barista said "I called out mint mocha," very snobbishly and looking like "shame on you, you drank it and now I have to throw it out." It's a very loud place and I never heard the "mint" part. Yet she looked at me like I was a pond scum, and I ruined her life because she'd have ti make another drink. I watched her remove take the drink that I had taken a sip of, and call out the proper name for that drink and then she looked at me, and made sure I saw her throw it out, while disgusted with me. No grace, no respect for the very people she's paid to serve. The most egregious of all failures is a 3" inch by 1" 3/4 Insult pumpkin cake. $6.75. No larger than a key! Nearly seven dollars for 50 cents of ingredients. Obnoxious, insulting and the last straw! Three people in line complained and two-seated also remarked how ridiculous it was! We approached each other and commiserated. They live in Millerton too. I'm done with this place. Done, done done. As a local, I'm disgusted and ticked off. And, the fact that feel they can do this without repercussions is a testament to their hubris, and the detachment they have with this community. This is not NYC. We are not just passing through. We live here. Be considerate of this. They won't get my $50 a week ever again.

I ordered the Fontina Panino (vegan sausage, fontina cheese, arugula and fennel mustard on ciabatta) and a cortado to drink. We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week. As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe Joust!
