Dr. Tran and her associates are a customer focused dental service that works to get you the best treatment possible. It starts with the fresh snacks and current magazine when you enter the lobby. Reachelle the receptionist is friendly and works with customers for scheduling, insurance, payment options, and more. It was refreshing to have someone call the insurance company for you and see what coverage you were eligible for as well as providing you with multiple option quotes so that you can make the best decisions. The dental work there is also top notch. I had my teeth cleaned, fillings, and an extraction. They made the experience as pleasant as possible. Some memorable moments was Dr. Tran's thoroughness in explaining the cavities and taking photographs so I understand where they are and why I need to have them fixed. She was very thorough in the filling process and diligent about ensure the proper bite pattern. My last filling from another dentist felt rushed and it crack within a week of the filling. When I went back to the other dentist, they filed down my tooth as the solution instead of redoing it. Another nice touch was the application of vitamin E on my lips for the fillings and extraction. Anyone who's gone through this process realizes that your lips get chap. The vitamin E soothes the lips and keeps them feeling comfortable. I could go on, but you get the point. They take their practice from the customer's perspective to ensure that you have a great experience. I would have no problems recommending this dentist to any friend in the future. It's worth the trek to Del Mar for such a great experience.

I have some fillings that have been solid since he did them when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I haven't had a cavity since then thanks to getting my teeth cleaned every six months and brushing regularly, but have had a few chips which Dr. Soldau has repaired. He's very skilled and experienced. If you have a condition that he can't handle, he will refer you to an appropriate specialist. He's never done me wrong in over 47 years. That says something about the man's skill and integrity. UPDATE 12/15/2016 Age (I am now 58) is finally taking its toll on my dentition. In 2012 I cracked a molar and ended up getting an implant from a nearby practice (La Jolla Oral and Facial Surgery.) Dr. Soldau prepared and installed the crown, which has been trouble-free. Last night two cusps broke off of a different molar, one that Dr. Soldau filled in about 1969! The original filling seems to still be intact. There was no bleeding and I have no pain at all, just an annoying rough surface. Of course I will go to Dr. Soldau as soon as possible. I'm hopeful that the tooth can be saved with a partial crown. In any case I know he will do the right thing.

My parents and my children go as well so we are a three generation family of customers. The thing that I like best about Dr. Soldau is that he always does my cleanings himself; I really don't like being pawned off on some dental hygienist. I've suffered from TMJ/TMD for most of my adult life to the point where neck, shoulder and back…read moretension, tension headaches, jaw pain and tooth sensitivity were an everyday occurrence. Over the years I sought care from acupuncturist, chiropractors, massage therapists, dentists and TMJ/TMD specialists. A variety of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions (IM injections of muscle relaxants, oral muscle relaxers, antidepressants, ECT treatments, exercise, meditation, mindfulness) only provided temporary relief. Additionally, I wore through THREE different "night guards." One of which was an "at-home DIY" guard and the last two were professionally cast by dentists. A year ago I visited a dentist who sent me off with a night guard and a prescription for antidepressants. I was so confused about the relevance of the medication and was not sure how they were related to the TMJ/TMD. In about two months, the night guard was warped and all of the associated symptoms of muscle tension and headaches returned. After searching for a TMJ/TMD specialist in San Diego I came across Dr Cook. The treatment plan was extensive, detailed and meticulous. Dr Cook didn't just cast a piece of plastic and send me on my way a week later. There was an initial consultation, fees discussed, a sleep study (because for the first time Dr Cook explained that the anatomy of my airway and my sleep quality contributed to the grinding/clenching), imaging, in-office electromyogram (to measure muscle contractions at rest and while clenched) and dental work to correct the bite so that an orthodic could be made. Dr Cook was the first dentist to tie together sleep quality, anatomy and pathology and actually EXPLAIN how they contribute to TMJ/TMD. The road to recovery was long and Dr Cook and her staff were professional, courteous and accommodating the entire time. She was so meticulous that she made adjustments down to the very millimeter- and for someone who'd tried everything to no avail for years, I was relieved by her level of dedication. Thank you Dr Cook, Dawn, Maria and all of the staff. Since having the orthodic my sleep has improved, my energy level during the day is better, I'm not wearing my teeth down and I feel so much better!

This dentist just blows my mind now...but not in a good way. Here is my terrible story:…read more I submitted my previous review of this man and of his dental practice far too prematurely. I submitted it before he had actually completed the work in my mouth. Before he had even completed the work he had been paid for up front. I came to see Dr. Lovell in the first place...to repair a broken molar. He examined my teeth...seemed pretty sweet and while he was prepping my mouth for the crown I needed he kindly offered to try bleaching one of my front teeth. This front tooth had had a root canal and needed a bond to conceal it's stain. Dr. Lovell charged me about $150 to bleach this front tooth...but he promised to refund that amount in full if it didn't improve the color of the tooth. he removed the structure behind the tooth to run his bleaching agents through it. Dr. Lovell's bleaching work never improved the color of my tooth whatsoever. He never refunded us for the bleaching as he had promised. But even worse...the plug he then replaced into the rear of my tooth has now entirely fallen off! This has left my front tooth entirely o p e n in it's rear, weakening the integrity of my front tooth and permitting food and bacteria to enter the tooth itself...to rot it out from with. Believe it or not, his front desk agent, Elsa...has informed me today that I must now "learn to live with it and like it". Unbelievable. Dr. Lovell charged me half upfront for the crown he was allegedly having made for my broken molar. Our arrangement was that the other half payment would be due on the date he actually put in my crown. Unfortunately...his office staff doesn't bother to abide by any of the arrangements and payment options Dr. Lovell makes. His office staff makes their own rules. They don't even bother to respect the Business & Professions Code when they contrive their rules. I was left a number of increasingly threatening messages by his front office staff....Elsa & Margie....both of whom actually hanged up on me when I tried to reason with their office over the phone. Dr. Lovell did send me a very kind letter apologizing on behalf of the unkind women who manage his front office. He even offered to come in on a Wednesday...so I wouldn't have to deal with them. Unfortunately...these two woman, Elsa & Margie, have kept me stringing along for a year now...trying to get my appointment for him to finish the crown he started and I paid for...not to mention to repair the work he so poorly "completed" on my front tooth. I'm reading through the other reviews that have been posted for this dentist. I would bet you money...at least two of them were submitted by his office staff...who are so gushingly praised in his counterfeit reviews.
