I was under Dr Rees care for many years. I was referred by a friend and I wish I checked yelp reviews. I'm redoing 8 teeth this year, either due to a not properly sealed crown or root canal where he left a Cotten pellet along with temp crown underneath or only cleaned 2/4 canals. It all started with him wanting to cut my gums due to a cyst on my gum, luckily I went to see an endo who told me that there was a root fracture and the tooth needed to be removed. Shortly after I learned how the rest of the work was done poorly. It's really disappointing when you trusted someone for years and you find out that they didn't do a good job when it comes to your care. I won't even mention that over the years there was a revolving door when it came to front and back office and how often he worked alone running the full practice. read more

Dentistry is built on trust--you're literally putting your health in someone else's hands. So it's hard to feel comfortable knowing the person behind the mask supports someone like Trump. If a dentist can look at the last several years and still stand by that kind of cruelty, dishonesty, and disregard for science... how am I supposed to trust their judgment in my care? Politics may not belong in the exam room, but values do--and they matter. Plenty of skilled, compassionate providers out there who don't check their ethics at the door. Won't run your insurance till after your appointment and make you pay for everything and say you might get a refund. Very pushy for you to buy things. They have a sketchy vibe to them. In my opinion, Dentist Rees takes advantage of your pain, circumstances, and most of all the Insurance claim process. From the reviews you will see one of his favorite schemes is the Porcelain Onlay/Crown Upsell. In other words, Mr. Rees is a Porcelain Pusher. He hides behind the convoluted Insurance process, and then blames glitches or staff to cover his tracks. On top of all of that, Rees also does shoddy work. The two Porcelain Onlays he pushed on me aren't even in my mouth anymore because both teeth needed root canal treatment, not Porcelain onlays. I suffered extreme pain, and a new dentist confirmed from past x-rays that the same decay was seen before and after the Rees onlay, and the best option would have been root canal to start with. Just 3 months after one of the onlays, I needed emergency root canal on same tooth. The other tooth he put a porcelain onlay has since been extracted, as well as the tooth next to it that Rees' lack of treatment contributed to. It's a drag that you need to adhere to the saying "Buyer Beware" when entering Rees' offices. It is what it is, and I only wish I would have had a second opinion before allowing the Porcelain Pusher to proceed. But wait... there's more.... A year and a half after Rees' upsell and shoddy work, I start getting blank invoices from him saying I owe $951. In November and December 2020, I specifically remember the office staff making me wait while they checked insurance deductible and coverages. I paid my portion on the spot based on the information this office provided. In May of 2022, almost 18 month later, I get a Blank Invoice from Rees with a Balance Due for $951. Even after requesting more information about this balance directly with Rees' office, I keep getting additional BLANK invoices monthly from Rees. Then in Sept. 2022 I get a letter from a Collection Agency stating I owe a balance. It was not until the beginning of October 2022, almost 2-years since the unnecessary and costly porcelain onlay procedures... I finally get an Itemized detail of the supposed charges. Beware of Robert Rees the La Jolla Porcelain Pusher. Get a second opinion, especially if he recommends a filling or onlay because there's a good chance he's upselling you. You also need to call the insurance company yourself before accepting what his office tells you is left on your deductible. Do not trust him or his staff, or you too will receive a blank invoice 2-years later. I already paid my $950 portion for these un-needed costs... money that should have gone to root canals to begin with... I refuse to pay additional because of incompetent staff and questionable business practices. Have you been ripped off by Rees? Or are you a former employee interested in whistleblowing? The doctor was very thorough and I think the in patient care was excellent. The office staff explained the procedures worked out the insurance issue so you don't have to worry about it. Throughout the procedure the doctor was very good at explaining exactly what's going to happen what he was doing and quite a few considerations that the other three dentists missed informing me (Validated in x-rays. ) After looking at 3 other Dentists, I chose Dr. Reese and I'm glad I did. I was politely told, even though the office is listed with my carrier the office will no longer accept new patients with any HMO type carriers because HMO carriers do not compensate enough and call back if I change my insurance coverage. read more

Been wanting to check out the Zoom! Teeth Brightening craze for some time now... I know, I know waaay late on following the trend. This was also my first in office whitening experience. The receptionist here... not the friendliest broad. The office itself is clean, spacious, and nice on the inside. When confirming my appointment the lady was firm in giving me directions and ensuring i would "be on time, unlike the others who came in recently" for said procedure. So there I am, prompt for my appointment and for what? To wait around for 15 minutes... I decide to check this place out on Yelp! And got a bit nervous at that point... The reviews are awful, thankfully I am only getting whitened I think to myself. I meet Dr. Rees DDS; a nice, well groomed guy. He leads me to the back where the Zoom! process will take place. He explain the process thoroughly. I then meet Eddie, the man who will actually do the process. Yet again, very nice and professional, explaining everything and ensuring I am comfortable throughout the experience. A few selling point were made during my visit to try and get me to switch to the office for my primary dental care... I can understand that as I am sure they were hoping to increase their client base when signing with Living Social for the Zoom! deal... I am glad they were not too pushy though because I already have a dentist whom I adore. The teeth whitening went great and I am very happy with the results. So would I recommend this dental office? Definitely should have read these reviews before wasting 2 hours of my time at this place. First of all, horrible business practices to ridicule a patient. He laughed in my face for my request for him to not use fluoride with me. Excuse me for not wanting to use a chemical that is known to cause cancer, brain damage, etc. I almost hope he is not aware of the dangers of fluoride, because if he is and still chooses to pressure people into using it after they request not to, then he has no business "helping" people. After this I tried to let it go and move on with the appointment, until he tried convincing me I have several cavities. I take very good care of my teeth and never eat sugar so I highly doubt this is the case, ESPECIALLY since he couldn't even show me them on the X-ray. I could have told you a long story about the torment I suffered in this office, but I really don't want to recall those painful experiences. This is a doctor with very poor skills. He can drill through the root canal, leaving a hole in the gums, and then the medication to kill the pulp leaks out, causing a lump like a pigeon egg in the gum. He is also a greedy and dishonest person who, after charging you a large sum for customized crowns and fillings, only gives you temporary fillings, which fall out within a few months without protection. I deeply regret not checking online for reviews of this person before walking into his office!!! If you are wise enough to search for information about this person and find this, then congratulations, you will have a happy life for your actions. Please believe me, he is a rogue doctor and a disgusting person. Choose a well-respected doctor instead of someone with a rating of 3.0. read more

Dr. Rees was the dentist given to us by HealthNet. His office is usually understaffed. Dr. Rees often answers the phone when I call as no one has been working the front desk for over a year. Today I waited 45 minutes for my son's teeth cleaning. When we were finally called into a room, I asked to forgo the X-rays and just clean my son's teeth as he had a bad experience in this office when he last got X-rays. I was told by one employee that it's the LAW that my son has to have X-rays, which is ridiculous, and Dr. Rees said that he would not clean my son's teeth without the X-rays. In the past I've also had very expensive quotes from Dr. Rees. When getting a second opinion I was able to get the work done at 1/3 the cost of Dr. Rees' quote. I went to Dr Rees a couple times a few years ago. He immediately came up with this multi-thousand dollar plan to fix all these 'problems' with my teeth. He did enough work to put me over my annual insurance coverage. He double-billed me and it took many phone calls and an excel spreadsheet to explain to them what they had done. Every time i was there, he and his assistants would whisper and laugh into these ear phone/microphone things through they entire procedure. Now fast forward 4 years and i am in pain from a failed crown he installed. Turns out my insurance doesn't cover a replacement if it's less than 5 years old. Awesome! Dr Robert Reese is an excellent dentist. I called his office wanting to schedule an appointment only to meet him and have a conversation with him. I had a procedure that I needed to have done and I was very dissatisfied with the dentist I had been seeing for years and I wanted to find a new dentist. Allie the receptionist was super nice and offered to schedule a free appointment so I could meet the doctor. She gave me an appointment right away. When I met the doctor, he was super nice, took all the time to explain his background and really allowed for me to get to know him. I felt super comfortable and felt he was super nice and super professional. I decided to switch dentist and I had my dental procedure done by him. He was great, incredible manners and he has an incredible hand and workmanship. Besides that, he charged me almost half of what my previous dentist wanted to charge me. I told my daughters about him and one of my daughters had her appointment with him today. She called me right after her appointment and was so happy. She thought he was a great dentist and she was so thankful I found him. He is now going to be our family dentist I highly recommend him for all your dental needs. We have only had the very best medical treatment and everyone in this office is super nice and super friendly. read more

Doctor Rees is a great dentist and true professional. I have been going to him for the past 14 years. Very knowledgeable and patient (especially with sensitive people such as myself who have low pain tolerance). I had 3 implants done, root canals, extractions..you name it. My son went to him because his wisdom teeth were impacted. Dr. Rees assured my son and I that he could do the job and that my son would be given medication to put him in a amnesia state and that my son would not feel anything or remember any of the procedure. AFTER 5 HOURS OF TORTURE on my son, he had only removed 2 of the 4 wisdom teeth. My son felt everything and was in such extreme discomfort the whole 5 hours. After 10 days we took my son to an oral surgeon and it took him 15 minutes to extract the 2 wisdom teeth left. If you ever need any extractions GO TO AN ORAL SURGEON. read more

Claire at the front desk informs me of the appointment reminders with text messaging/automated calls and the billing is checked with my discount plan I have through my insurance company. Several procedures over the past several years has been great. Dr Rees has been professional and thorough in updating some of my old silver fillings to the latest procedures and uses the most up to date equipment. I won a Zoom Whitening with Dr. Rees during a silent auction at an event Lin June 2014. His office was extremely accommodating in making my appointment, changing it, extending the certificate, etc; and I finally got the procedure done yesterday. Everyone in the office is so pleasant and genuinely nice; you can tell they are happy working there (which isn't always the case in medical/dental offices). What impressed me most was the time and attention Dr. Rees gave me. Because I wasn't an actual "paying" customer (he donated the zoom whitening for the silent auction) AND I live in Los Angeles and am not a potential long term patient; I had low expectations for the doctor's time/attention going in. Dr. Rees was incredibly thorough in explaining the procedure and even pointed out a few things I should talk to my regular dentist about after examining my teeth. Decided to switch from my family dentist to something more nearby when I moved to the coast. Bad idea. All of the sudden I had 5 cavities when I have never had a cavity in my life (I'm 26). After getting an estimate for hundreds of dollars I of course went to my family dentist to verify if it was in fact true that I had acquired these cavities. It wasn't. I had none. Dr. Rees has provided quality care in a timely manner. I had serious problems with my gums due to cancer therapies I went through and numerous broken teeth. Terrible experience. Terrible customer service. I currently live in San Diego, but I am from Northern California and travel up there to visit my parents every now and then. I was visiting them last year and went to my long time dentist up there. They told me I needed a filling but could not fit me in before I was leaving town to travel back down to SD. So I did some research and found Dr. Rees. I went to Dr. Rees, because he was the closest dentist I could find that my insurance covered in San Diego. My Nor Cal dentist emails over my X-rays to show Dr. Rees's office the filling I need. So I go in, expecting to just get a filling and after Dr Rees drills a nice hole in my tooth- he suddenly 'discovers' I need a root canal- Basically leaving me with no option, but to move forward with the procedure (due to the gaping hole in my tooth). The receptionist comes in the room and goes over the billing with me (while I still have this giant hole in my tooth). We figure out that my insurance will only cover about $1300.00 worth, with the total being over $2600.00. So, that would mean I would I have to pay at least $1300.00 out of my own pocket. Ok, so I am only 23 years old, and definitely don't have that kind of money lying around. So with no other option- I am forced to apply for Care Credit, a type of healthcare credit cart. I'm approved and they charge the remaining balance, $1300.00, on the card and I am left with monthly payments of $50.00 for the next year. At this point, I just wanted to get out of there- I felt manipulated and I felt as though they took advantage of me, because of my age. I finally finish the procedure and never want to step foot back into that horrible place. So about 4-5 months later, I get a phone call from Dr. Rees's receptionist saying, my insurance didn't want to cover $255.00- so basically I owe them more- ONTOP of the $1300.00 I am already paying them out of my own pocket and the $1100.00 my insurance company gave them. I simply tell them I cannot afford to pay them that- I was expecting to pay what they originally quoted me MONTHS ago. Anyway, long story short, they refuse to drop the extra $255.00 (as if they desperately need that money). So when all said and done, for a root canal with a decent insurance company, you will be paying at least $1000.00 out of your own pocket. I definitely don't reccomend them. read more

At first, I was happy to get next day appointment. I found out why after my visit. I felt like they run a business and don't care about patients. They make you sign these vaguely written forms, then charge you for stuff, knowing that your dental plan doesn't cover it. In my first visit I had to pay $63 copay. My dental provider told me i shouldn't have paid any. I called them back, and found out that they charged me for Oral Cancer screening and Inner Mouth Image...? They also gave me this plan where I'd lay out over $3K in restoration with some weird codes. read more

I put my head phones on and before I knew it , they were done and I was on my way home!! One of the best dentist in the world (imo), Dr Rees wont- let you down. He wont sugar coat things or overcharge either. For you bargin hunters, heres a tip- he is not cheap (but not too expensive either) - he is quality and experienced. What a positive experience! I found Dr. Rees more than a year ago through a Zoom teeth whitening promotion. I am a really nervous patient and used to have to take medication in college just to get my teeth cleaned. When I went in for my Zoom, I was also really nervous, but the staff was really professional and super personable, and completely put me at ease. This is not easy to do!
