Have an older Samsung Dryer and started making grating noise. Called Harold's and they responded right away. Fixed it and the sensor as well. Diligent polite repairman. I called these folks on a rental I had in Tacoma. We had some older coin-op machines that just stopped working. It took about a week to get on their schedule and I met Chris at the property. Once again I have had great service from Harold's Appliance. I have been using them since I moved here many years back now. My 26 year old dish washer stopped working, and I didn't want to really get one of the new ones that don't do as good at cleaning, nor are they built to last. Chris came out and checked and verified what I figured, the pump had finally died. He ordered a replacement which came in quickly and then he came out and did excellent work at keeping everything neat while he changed it out, checked out everything else, and then we ran it afterward and once again it runs like new. Maybe I'll be around to see how long it lasts this time, though I'm figuring it may outlast me now. Fantastic work from a great local business. read more

I saw reviews that were bad and now I wish I never used this company. But I did. Called them out because my refrigerator produce drawers were freeing. They misdiagnosed it and replaced the drawer thermostat. The part was $50. But my total bill was $350 and I am left with produce drawers still freezing. I call them every week to resolve this, and I am told that I need to speak with the owner and that he is out sick. I understand being sick, but after 3 weeks I think someone else should be able to handle my call. If they can't property repair my drawers a refund should be given but instead it seems like my call is being avoided, as I am just told for 3 weeks now that the owner is sick. No one in the office speaks kindly, they are very rude and defensive when I just think this should be resolved. Whatever you do STAY AWAY from this company at all cost. This is a much needed and late review. Back on August 2021, we hired them to fix a leak on our refrigerator, labor was $150 and with *new* parts total $448. Plus we had to pay for a $99 service call diagnosis 2 months before. unexpectedly within 60 days, the leak was there again and "unfixable". We had to replace the refrigerator completely. While I do not know if they did their due diligence, we know hiring them was a waste of our time and money (nearly $600!). read more

Chris came out today and fixed our problem in less than an hour, explained how to do preventative maintenance and avoid future problems. Because it was actually more of a plumbing issue (hose blockage) we didn't need to replace our dishwasher, saving money. I recently called Harold's Appliance about a problem with a dishwasher. The service person showed up and my wife explained what was happening and asked if he would like to speak with me as I'm handicapped and can't get to the kitchen where the dishwasher is. He said no. My wife mentioned that the ice maker was making dirty cubes also. 10 minutes later he came and told me that the dishwasher pump and motor were bad and that he could order parts for about $400 but it would be best to just replace the dishwasher. I looked on Amazon for the part and it was $170. He also said he "cleaned" the ice maker. The bill was $250. He then took longer to write the invoice than it took to diagnose the dishwasher and clean the ice maker! I couldn't see what he was doing this whole time but I now suspect he stood in front of the dishwasher and twiddled his thumbs until he thought he had spent enough time. I'm pretty sure there were no tools involved in this whole procedure. After now seeing all these shitty reviews I feel really stupid for calling them. Years ago they were a reputable company not a complete rip off. I don't know how people or a company can live with themselves when they are basically thieves. The good: Available. Others said no to Samsung dryer or 10 day wait. (One was a jerk!) Harold's came next day. On time. Said Noon to 5P. Showed up at noon. Knowledgeable. Disassembled Samsung dryer in a snap. Diagnosed issue and replaced. Reassembled and tested in under an hour! Friendly. Chris was easy to work with. A little improvement maybe: Pricing. Strict policy almost put me off, but needed fixed. Diagnosis charge OK, but penalty if call is cancelled within 24 hrs or can't get in is a little scary! Full service? Maybe I asked too soon, but fuller explanation would be nice. Also, would be nice to check other things like lint in duct. (Had to ask.) Overall: Quite Satisfied. 4.5 out of 5. I had a very tough experience with this company. Rude office staff, and as much as I hate to say this, a lazy technician. My washer and dryer broke within one day of each other. The technician made four separate visits to my house. On the second visit, he had the correct part for the dryer but not the washer. he said my dryer was good to go. But in fact, it was not. So on his third visit, I let him know that the dryer was still making the squealing noises. It was then that he informed me that he was having a really bad day on his previous visit to my house and that it was too warm in my house so he needed to walk away and that's why he didn't repair my dryer. The fourth visit he said that he is now 95% sure of the problem to my washer and he would order the part and we would get it fixed. Six days later I called the office to find out what the status was and I was met with a very rude and defensive behavior from the receptionist. She told me that the technician had called me four days prior to let me know that the part was no longer available. That I understand. But my cell phone shows no record of him calling or leaving a message that the part was unavailable. I had two numbers on file for them to contact me. Was it a mistake? Did he simply just dial the wrong number? Possibly. And totally understandable. But maybe if they had dialed the second number I would've been aware of the fact that I needed to buy a new unit. I'm not upset about having to buy a new unit. I am upset at how I was treated by the office staff. And I'm upset that the technician told me that my dryer was fixed and then turned around and told me that he was just frustrated because he was having a bad day and had to walk away. after being without a washer and dryer for five weeks, and a total of $387 to have a belt repaired in the dryer, its very difficult to leave a anything but a one star review. read more

They came out twice to "fix" My electric oven. Two repairs and two expensive parts later the oven still did not work. The first time the repairman was here I asked him if it was the temperature probe. He said no, definitely not......Yesterday I easily replaced the temperature probe. The new one cost $14. I'm so grateful for Harold's Appliance! Before calling Harold's, I called about 12 appliance stores and they either did not service LG washers or did not service my town (DuPont, WA). I called them on a Monday, Chris came the next day, found out what was wrong, gave me an estimate, ordered the parts, came back to do the repair and my washer was in use again by the end of the week! I had a poor experience with this business. They came out to look at my dryer and said that the part was so exotic ( it's a Maytag) that they were going to have to special order the part from Italy. The projected estimate to fix $450+ for a high heat sensor?....AND they wouldn't guarantee that this was even the fix to the problem. I recently moved into a place that had washer/dryer hookups. We already owned a washer/dryer so we just needed to hook them up. Problem was that my cord was 4 prong and the outlet was 3 prong. I went to Home Depot and bought a 3 prong cord and was pretty excited I was going to switch out a dryer cord myself. Well, that didn't work out too well and I ended up tripping the circuit breaker, the outlet sparked, and then started smoking. So I ended up calling around trying to find a company to come to my house to install my washer/dryer. Harold's changed out the cord for me and then proceeded to do the duct work. Unfortunately, there was only a hole in the floor and no actual ductwork to hook the dryer to. So the tech said I should probably get my landlord involved with that because it seemed like the dryer was venting below the house and not actually being directed to the outside. The tech asked who my landlord was and was very familiar with the property manager and works with them frequently. I got the property manager on the phone and the tech told them the issue and now the property manager is fixing the problem. I really appreciated that a lot! I thought the bill was high. It was $70 just to come out and then for labor and a dryer exhaust thing the total came to $130. Next time, I hope to be able to install my washer/dryer myself and save the $130. read more

Every time that I have worked with Harold's appliance to come out and work on my dishwasher or refrigerator it seems that they always try to find the easy way out and fix, and then they leave and then you have to call and keep scheduling other appointments to get the real issue fixed. The other problem I have with Harolds is how they treat people who are not homeowners but rather renters. Every time I call the customer service is horrible and the ladies who answer the phone have a very rude attitude. Just recently I called and made an appointment for my dishwasher, it took a while for them to get out here, The man who showed said I had some food stuck in the air trap took it out and left. The very next day when I ran my dishwasher it's still stunk and the dishes weren't drying. I called back in to schedule another appointment, now having to wait an additional week to get my dishwasher fixed and she told me she updated the work order and wrote the real issues on the work order when that's what I told her from the start. She went on to say that that was not on the work order initially. Overall I am very unsatisfied with the customer service I have received at Harold's appliance over the past few years, I may be just renting a home, and I may not be the owner but I still have my rights here. I've noticed once they know your a renter they are VERY rude to you. Harold's appliance needs to work on their customer service over the phone. read more

My refrigerator and dishwasher went out in the same week. I thought I went with a local reputable company, I was wrong. It's been nearly 1 month and after paying $900 in full after their first attempt to fix both appliances, I'm still left living out of coolers, and a non functional dishwasher. The technician stripped the tubing and caused a leak to the dishwasher. I woke up to 1" of standing water that had been leaking for 72 hours under my kitchen sink and warped my cabinets. The refrigerator they "fixed" was never fixed, it froze my food, and then shut off... The owner claims "it's not their fault, and it's not their problem." It's been 110° and my family of 4 has had no adequate way of keeping food cold or washing dishes. I would never ever reccomend this company to anyone for any kind of repair. We had a dishwasher where the metal rim was coming off. I called and gave a detailed description to the receptionist who gave me a general estimate of what it would cost to repair. Repair man came out looked for two minutes and said I do not fix this it is a manufactures issue and charged me $90. When I called to talk to owner she acted as if she was doing me a favor to only charge me 60 for an under fixed dishwasher. AVOID HAROLDS AT ALL COSTS. Incredibly rude office manager and incompetent or fraudulent employees. My story. Bought speed queen washer & dryer from them 3 years ago. Washer broke. Out comes Harolds to tell me that the transmission was shot requiring a $ 500 repair which quickly became $1,000 when a very rude office manager called to say the technician misquoted the price and oh by the way even though they sold me the machine they would not honor the warrenty. Suspecting they were trying to cheat me I called another repair service who told me any necessary repair would be fully covered under warranty. They also said they had hardly ever heard of a speed queen transmission blowing up so when they came out to see what was needed I was not surprised to learn that only a couple of small parts needed replacement. The technition who repaired the machine told me he had heard a number of similar complaints on Harolds. No wonder they are available more quickly then honest repair shops, word on them is certainly spreading.... read more

CAUTION-Do not use Harold's Appliance for repairs. They are not reputable. The gasket on my freezer had come loose on the bottom and frost was collecting. I was going to be leaving town and was concerned that this needed to be repaired before I left. I called to set up an appointment to have the gasket on my freezer replaced, look at a noisy fan on my refrigerator and see if I needed a new element on my oven. I told the person making the appointment that I could provide the model numbers and was told that wasn't necessary. The repair man came to the house, and looked at the appliance, turned the nobs and checked the gasket and the oven. He said he would take the model numbers and need to return to do the repairs. I explained I had offered that information to the person making the appointment, he said he needed to verify the gasket needed replacing before he could do the repair. I was charged $300, for him to come take the model numbers. As I said I was leaving town and could not get the repairs completed before I left. When I returned home from being out of state, my freezer was completely thawed. I assumed that the repair man had left the dial turned down. So I turned the dial up and it freely spun. He is the only person that had touched the dial before or since he came. Apparently when he was twisting the dial it must have broken. He did not say anything at the time and when I called to explain the situation, they said the repair man said he didn't turn the dial on the freezer just the dials on the refrigerator and were unwilling to do anything to work with me and only offered me to pay another service fee to come an assess the situation. I explained that this was not true, that I had watched him turn the dial. I additionally explained that no one has been in the home since that day, since I left town. I was told he didn't touch the dial. I spoke with Bonnie Smith the owner, to be clear. I chose Harold's appliance to do the repair because they were a small town company that had been their since I was little and I try to advocate for buying local and supporting small business in my community. I regret this loyalty. I would suggest, you consider any other establishment for repairs, based on my experience they do not operate ethically and have a devised intent to maximize the cost of repairs. You can imagine our panic when both our gas ovens died the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Because of other good reviews, we called Harold's exactly at 9 am when they opened on Monday and what a treat to actually have someone answer the phone instead of having to leave a voice message. She was very friendly and gave us a window of time for that same day. Brian arrived at noon, replaced the igniter, and saved our Thanksgiving! They're family owned and with service like this, I can see why they've been in business since 1954. If you live in the South Sound area, I couldn't recommend them more highly! read more

EXTREMELY DISAPOINTED! I made an appointment on Friday for Service on Saturday, which was great that they could get to me so quick. However, they have a 5hr window (9am-2pm) for their service call, and only provide a 10-15min ETA...so plan on staying home half your day to wait on them. Once they arrived, the technician spent less than 10 minutes in my house. He just looked at the back of my refrigerator and said I needed a new control board...not one tool used and no testing done of any kind. I even asked if he could test anything, and he said "not really". I actually tested more things on my own than he did. He spent more time writing up a $100 invoice for his "service call" than he did looking at anything. I called their office to explain my concern, and they said I'm paying for his expertise and diagnostics...HE LITERALLY DID NOTHING! And they refused to offer a discounted rate. Advised Harolds that I had an LG Refrigerator, only 3 yrs. old. they came out and said we don't work on these. I should tell my office for the future. After 2 minutes, did nothing, and still charged a $69.00 trip charge. Other companies advised me that they don't work on the new LGs'. Poor business. Don't use them. read more

If my judgement was based solely on the service person, the rating would be 5-Star. The price is what makes the rating 3-Star instead. The service person replaced the heating element in the stove and cleaned out the ice at the back of my freezer, which fixed both of my appliance problems. He was pleasant, respectful, and knowledgeable. The charge was $238. The most the heating element could have cost was $68 retail and it took about an hour for him to install the heating element, test it, wait for me to finish taking the rest of the food out of the freezer, remove the wall at the back of the freezer, take out the chunks of ice at the back, and replace the wall. I cannot afford these prices so wouldn't call them again unless no one else available. read more

Next week is Thanksgiving and both my refrigerator and my stove quite working. I had the part for the stove but was unable to pull it out and fix. The refrig I had no idea what was wrong. Called a few places and none of them would be able to get to me until the end of the month. My final call was to Harold's and from the moment that the receptionist answered it was nothing but great customer service. Friendly polite and very helpful and explained all their policies and to expect to call before he arrived. I almost forgot, they came out after hours on the same day I called! The service tech that came out was polite, professional and knew his stuff. He fixed both the stove and the frig and explained what was wrong. The cost was very reasonable as well. read more

Their prices for the machines I wanted were substantially lower than the other nearby Speed Queen dealers. We set an install schedule, they called before he arrived, he arrived on time, got everything installed, removed the old machines. No problems. So, great prices, great service. read more

Boy oh boy!!!!! This company is a HUGE RIP OFF!!!. They are trying to make money any which way they can. I called this company needing someone to come out and take a look at my dryer. The lady I spoke to never indicated that I would be charged for the service call. The technician stated that my timer on my machine was broken and would charge me $230.00 to fix it. The service call alone is $70.00. That is CRAZY!!!! I spoke with the owner Bonnie and she was so rude. This company has no customer service skills what-so-ever!!! Very rude and unfriendly. Dryer quit working, service man came and replaced thermal fuse. Dryer was burning hot when I tried to use it. They told me the fuse goes out due to ventilation and that I needed my ducts cleaned. I got ducts cleaned to the tune of $200 which were not blocked and then the dryer stopped working again 2 days after they replaced the fuse. I took off the back panel off the dryer to check it out and the fuse terminals fell off and they left a ton of lint that is not only a fire hazard but was clogging the vents. I asked what they do when they come service and was told they check the most common part first and if that makes it work they don't test any other parts and if they have to vacuum they charge more for that. Really! It takes about 2 minutes to check all the other parts to see if they are bad. Why would you not check the whole machine out for everything that is wrong with it while you are there! Another house call means more money and wasted time. Don't bother with this kind of service - you deserve better. read more

Just had the worst experience with Harold's Appliances. Ice maker broke, technician came out told me it would be $90 to order the part after the $86 service call. They leave me a message yesterday telling me the part would be $190 due to the fact that they could not order just the part and had to order the whole housing for it. I find the part online for $136. Called them this morning to tell them I would order the part myself. They tell me if I order the part than they would charge double for labor and also if the part is not installed by them in 30 days, another service charge of $86. I've ordered the part and my husband found a video online how to install it. Do not use this company, they're just trying to soak you. read more

I was in need of a refrigerator, washer and dryer for my new house. I stopped by Harold's and they had just what I was looking for... Or so I thought. I was sold a used refrigerator (the only thing they had that would fit within the space I had) and it works great so far. The issue I have and the reason for the loss of 3 stars is the washer and dryer combo they sold me. Both were used with no warranty, but according to the woman at the shop, were in very good shape, tested, and guaranteed to work. She must have been using the term "guaranteed to work" loosely. The washer does turn on, cover clothes in water and spin (some), but almost 1/2 of the cycles and buttons do not work and the clothes come out of the washer feeling as though they were just dunked into a bathtub full of water.. Dripping wet!! Even with running the "spin only" cycle, the clothes are still so wet, they must be hung or wrung out before they can be put in the dryer. Even then, the dryer takes multiple full cycles to dry the clothes. I think they sold me these machines knowing that they didn't work as intended and that's why they wouldn't warranty the sale. I will not purchase anything from this store again, as I'm out $500+ for the set including delivery (which was easy and professional). If you plan to make a purchase here please make double sure that they plug in and show you that all buttons and cycles work before giving them your hard earned money. read more

We are buying a home and our inspector noticed that water was leaking from the ice dispenser on the refrigerator. Relater called Harold's appliance to diagnose and repair. Harold's came out and said repairs were done. This is an empty rental property and we weren't there at the time. When we went by the house to verify the repair, water was all over the kitchen floor and the ice maker box was frozen solid. Relater called Harold's back and was told they would be back in couple days after ice melts and would check it out. comes back out and says he needs a 5/16 fitting that he doesn't have and he will fix the problem when he gets the part. I asked for call back when he gets part and completes job but didn't get one. went by the house again to make sure water wasn't on the floor and noticed a note on the refrigerator stating repairs were complete. Pushed the ice dispenser to test and nothing. Pulled out the ice box and ice was on verge of frozen solid again, not cubed. Left message at Harold's explaining problem, this was Christmas day so no one there. Received a callback their next business day by the repair guy, says, as far as he is concerned he fixed the problem, because he was told water was leaking and the work order didn't mention the ice maker. I told him obviously the ice maker was involved since it was freezing up and water was coming out of the ice dispenser, as the technician sent to diagnose a problem he should have figured that out. He basically told me he fixed the water leak and if I didn't like it get someone else and hung up on me. The repair was part of the real estate transaction. I understand he was paid for the initial repair by the relator, and callbacks were at his expense. But it seems to me that as a technician and business owner his work ethics, workmanship, and business name, should have made him make good on the repair, take the hit on the loss, and do a better job in the diagnoses and repair of a system next time. read more
