Been dining here quite a few times over the years and always enjoyed our mesls. Our last two visits here were quite disappointing. What happened ? Is there new ownership ? Two of us ordered the Day Boat Scallops. EVERY bite of the scallops had sand it. I've prepared/consumed shellfish for years and the occasional bit of sand happens. But, to have been served 12+ Scallops (both plates) and every bite had sand in it is inexcusable. Somebody did a VERY poor job of cleaning them. read more

Done there once this week and once last week. The inside is pretty pretty nice ly designed And sitting outside overlooks the water so you can't miss when it comes to that. More than just bar food there's some pretty good entrees. You can order calamari or shrimp buy the half pound with a number of different sauces. We got both the calamari and shrimp and though there was too much sauce for each of them I have to say it was tasty. Gazpacho served in a martini glass, fries served upright in a cup and a decent Swiss Burger. We went here without reservations on a Saturday night, and luckily, were able to be seated immediately at a high top table in the bar area, which was perfect for us. There is also a large dining area as well as outside dining options. Our waiter, Adrian, was terrific: quick, personable and professional. We both got cocktails which were made just the way we wanted. I got a blackened shrimp salad (called Cabo) for $23 while my husband got the filet mignon ($48). My salad was delicious and filling. My husband got a very large Caesar salad with his meal, which was good but the croutons were mushy and the lettuce was a little warm instead of crisp and cold. He also got garlic mashed potatoes which had too much garlic in them for his taste. He liked his steak ok but it tasted dry and "off" to me. We both got a roll which was freshly made and very good! Have been going to Harpoon Willy's since it was The Red Barn in the 1980s. Over the years it has been a neighborhood place to hang out with friends, have a drink, and get reasonably priced pub far. Unfortunately, the new ownership is bringing pretension to the place. The new menu disappoints and though we understand in this era of inflation that prices must creep up, the jump is dramatic. read more

We didn't have reservations, so we had to wait for a table, but it was worth it. Started with a glass of wine and drunkin clams. I thought they came with garlic bread (as shown in previous yelp reviews, but it didn't. They brought us a small piece of bread when asked) Clams were very good and garlic broth was delicious (which is why the bread was needed to be able to soak it up and enjoy more of it). My wife and I went out for a rare night without kids. We live in the area and have been to Harpoon Willy's before and have enjoyed it in the past. However, since the reopening and menu change, the food quality seems to suffered. We started the night with brandy sidecars which were more lemon juice than cognac and Cointreau. For dinner, I ordered the pistachio crusted salmon. It was fishy and bland. The pistachio crust was just a crushed pistachio topping and it was served on a tangy tomato based sauce that did not complement the dish what so ever. The side of rice was bland and flavorless but the fennel salad was fresh, crisp and delightful. I ate 2 bites of the meal and thew the rest of the $32 dish away. My wife had the tuna tower which was ordered medium rare. It was a tad bit over cooked and bland. The side of rice was also bland and flavorless. We finished the tuna but barely touched the side dishes. The service was just fine; nothing exceptional or poor. However, there was no awareness to customer dissatisfaction. The bartender saw that my dish was barely touched but failed to asked if there was anything they could have replaced it with. Even when my wife said the salmon dish was not good, there was no attempt to correct it. I never write reviews but I would hate for anyone to waste their money. It's cute inside but the acoustics were awful. We couldn't hear across the table before the band started playing directly behind us. The food- I had that scallops which were good but only 4 scallops served. My husband's steak had a large amount of fat not rendered down and it was over cooked. Excellent food and service! We had a spot by the fireplace and view of river made for great ambiance.

I ordered the pastrami and fries from on the special menu. Because I went in around 5pm and was told that the burgers were no longer available on the menu after 4 PM. except "the river road" burger for around $18-$19. The Dock sider burger $23.00 wasn't no longer available after 4 pm. BUT if I wanted to add cheese and bacon and onions to the River Road burger ( to match "the dock sider" burger), it would be $32-$33........yes for a burger! Soooooo.....Ordered the pastrami open face special. The fries were about an inch long, dark brown, hard cold and dried out as if they were microwaved. The pastrami open sandwich, mostly bread, was skimpy on the meat, it was just ok. When the pint of beer arrived, the glass was about 1 inch down from the top but the beer was cold. The waitress was very nice, polite and apologetic. The bus boys were hanging around, watching TV, on their cell phones texting without much to do. Not professional and distracting. I've been going there for years. its been hit or miss there for the last 6 months. Not impressed. Time to go to Wendys for a burger. read more

4.5 stars at least! Great place for lunch. My husband said " they really know how to cook a piece of salmon!" My seared tuna was a great sized portion and absolutely cooked to perfection and delicious. The atmosphere was that of a hunting lodge and the service was excellent. No complaints here. Friday night I went here with my wife. We have not been here for about 8 months figured it was time to come back. I ordered the fire cracker shrimp it was cooked well but no spice flavor. After that I ordered the surf and turf after asking what size filet it came with. The waitress told me it came with a 8 oz filet shrimp mashed potatoes and vegetable. I agreed then she came back and wait it is a 7oz filet I said no problem thank you. when the dish came out it looked beautiful the three shrimp were very good but I got two filet medallions heals together with a tooth pick. both pieces of meat had grizzle in them. The only reason for my 2 stars is because the day boat scallops really just grossed me out! The risotto scallops and veggies everything just tasted like a stick of butter! The calamari by the 1/2 pound was pretty good. The lobster roll was generous amount of lobster but something about it tasted kind of fake. The burger my daughter loved ! I don't think I'd go back. Alas, our family has possibly had our last meal at Harpoon Willy's. Recent menu changes have not been at all positive, though our server tried hard to push quality. If you're going to remove 75% of the menu and now just offer 4 seafood dinners, you should be sure you don't run out of two of them by 7:15pm on a Saturday, especially when your customer doesn't eat meat. Chicken Milanese, Tuna Club, Tuna dinner (you are still on the menu but not available)....you will be missed. Such a shame that the menu changes were so drastic - feels like some were based on ego or made by efficiency experts rather than what their long time clientele loved. Went there last Saturday night. Very expensive for what you got: $20 for a 6oz pour of wine? This wasn't Napa. $17 for about 8-10 very small "Firecracker" shrimp. We ordered it to split. Barely enough. We all thought it was a kids portion. And didn't have much flavor, not sure where the "firecracker" was. Burgers were good, I had the seared tuna, it was decent. Harpoon Willy's is a real well know local steak and Seafood house right on the river. It has a bar feel to it with wide-screen TVs, nice bar, great seating. A friend ordered the Lobster Burger which I was about to take from him it looked so delicious. Another freiend ordered the Fish & Chips, which was just as delicious. My plate was okay...a little short on the seafood, may up by adding lots of clams...but the flavor and atmosphere were a great vibe. read more

My husband I have frequented Harpoon Willy's for years. Tonight we went there for some drinks and burgers. To our disappointment the menu changed and they no longer offer their famous Docksider Burger for dinner unless you want to build your own burger. That burger than would cost $30+ for a burger!!! Great spot that characterizes it's setting well with a great view of the water outside depending on your seating and boats lined up as you park. Inside the layout is well done, seemingly a house converted into a bar and restaurant. Nicely spaced out nice décor and fireplace. There is a even a harpoon, well done! It's always a good sign when I'm stuck between 2-3 options on the menu so seeing as how this a place featuring many entrees of the sea, I decided grouper bites for an appetizer and the Stuffed shrimp for an entrée. The grouper bites were great. little bite sized pieces of grouper with a side of salsa that consisted of peppers, beans and pineapple topped with tartar sauce. An interesting combination but had a good mix of sweet and savory. The Stuffed shrimp was great - Stuffed shrimp on top of cheesy rice in between zucchini with a nice presentation. Entrée was great but I thought zucchini was soft and too done. I know some like it this way, but I'd rather it have been more crunchy or maybe roasted. Overall good though. Staff were great and nicely accommodating of my reservation with no issues. With great service and lots to choose from off the menu definitely earns a visit and a return one if you're looking for a dinner spot. read more
