Very unprofessional staff!! I simply asked for a cup for a salad dressing! And was told "WE DONT HAVE THAT" in a very rude and mean manner! after asking another employee he simply went back to the exact same place where I asked (the sandwich spot) and handed me two cups for the dressing. The worst cashier-checkout experience in the area. They are sloppy with scanning. They have double-charged me for items (e.g., weighed one bunch of bananas twice and charged me the identical amount twice; receipt from August 28, 2022), and forgotten to put my items in the bag on numerous occasions. I don't have money to waste on being double-charged or have items missing when I get home. Sale prices are a disaster. Tags are in front of the wrong items on a regular basis. Minor pluses are 1) deals on weekly ad circular items and 2) occasional BOGO free sales that are not listed in the weekly circular. However, tags are often misplaced so that's something to be aware of when shopping for sale items. Overall, just not good. read more

I have always considered this grocery store chain a step above the normal average grocery store, just because of the upscale ambience and organization of the store. The deli section, seafood counters and even the floral area are all laid out perfectly and completely modern. I've come here several times although it is somewhat of a walk from my office in Crystal City. For me it's definitely worth the exercise and extra effort to come here because I enjoy the salad bar and hot bar that the have. I arrived somewhat early today at around 10:30am and the hot bar had not yet opened, so I went ahead and prepared me a fresh kale salad with all of the important vegetables that I like. Marshall in the deli was extra helpful to me and he points out some of the prepared sandwiches that they have as well. added shredded cheese, grilled chicken strips, carrots, tomatoes and peas. For the dressing I got the buttermilk ranch. Now I need to get ready for the 20 minute walk back to work! read more

I use this HT to pick up my online orders and it's great! Today I decided to walk the store and shop because I missed the deadline to order and pickup for the evening. Never again. The staff was not very friendly and at 730 they only had one register open There were a few items that I couldn't find and I told two associates at checkout that I couldn't locate them. "Oh yeah, we have that!" No motion to go get it Heck! Drive too quickly down Rt 1 and you might miss it! Located between Crystal City and Potomac Yards, this lil Harris Teeter is tucked away in an (almost completely) underground location. There's an hour of free parking (for those of you with cars), or you can easily walk or hop on the 9A bus that rides up and down Rt 1. Once in, there are always a number of yummy samples: cookies in the front entrance, several fresh fruits, a meat, a cheese, and usually some sort of fresh bread and dip. The produce is always fresh - and they even have a local farmers stand so you can support small business! From the produce, you snake around through the meats and dairy, past the booze, and through the dry goods and frozen ones. It's basically one very large loop of a store that ends with the cash registers. I've never had any trouble finding anything - and the staff is always out and about - very nice and always with a smile. Well done :) read more

First and last experience using ExpressLane online shopping. This location usually is fine to run in and grab some things, as there is another location down the street and this one is off the beaten path. My order was quoted as being ready between 12:30 and 1:00. At 12 I received a call that the "personal shopper" was behind and would need a few extra minutes. No huge biggie, so I arrived around 1:20. Pressed the call button in the designated area, no response. Pressed again, nothing. Pressed 15 more times, radio silence. I finally called the store from my phone (which was incredibly difficult considering it's underground), and briefly spoke with a manager who confirmed my name and said the shopper would be out in 10 minutes. I pulled into a nearby space, and watched as people pulled into spaces and actually came out the store with full carts - mind you this is how long I sat there, almost 30 minutes. As I prepared to go inside and just get my own d**m groceries, a woman in an apron runs towards the car and says she's the deli manager and the shopper is overwhelmed and it'll be another 10 minutes. I told her that I could've did it on my own at this point. She motions towards the parking garage and says they are busy but she will attempt to help the shopper. At this point (since I'm stuck since I prepaid), I've taken out my work laptop and files and have starting doing work. Another 30 minutes goes by, and the same deli manager - carrying her items to go home - walks to the car and says "she's bagging up your groceries now, it'll just be another 10 minutes. She's coming with a manager since I told them you were irate" I'm irate???? Well now I am, knowing that folks are going to be coming out towards me on the defensive. I'm moreso peeved that I've gotten this "10 more minutes" bull over the course of almost 2.5 hours now. And I'm fully aware that all of the folks leaving with carts full of food means that my order is probably underfilled. A full 20 minutes later one employee comes to the car, says that it was crazy inside, thanks for my patience and that my car smells good, and slams the door shut - that was it. A complete waste of time. And yes, only half of my order was filled. On a somewhat amusing note, two Hispanic cleaning folks (HT employees) stood with brooms/trashcans/etc. next to my car chatting and laughing my entire visit. Literally did no work. read more

So I've been shopping here for the last 3 years and I have to say, this grocery store is not bad. They tend to have everything that I'm looking for--especially for a small establishment. The reason I had to amend my review is because how great the seafood/meat deli counter employees were during my several visits. Always professional. At least 3 times, when I ordered a salmon, they were able to get the exact weight with the first try; now that's impressive. The only negative (-1) that I had to mention is the small produce section. I do understand it's a small store but compared to, lets say, the alcohol section, it's considered quite small. Nonetheless, I would still pick this store over the one in Shirlington. The customer service representative who may or may not have been the manager, Bryant (African male, dark-skinned with short hair and glasses) was very rude, unprofessional and argumentative when I requested a rain check and had questions about the rain check item due to the store no longer having the item. I was a bit dismissive to shopping there when seeing old rotten veggies and fruits but my trip was meant for stocking up from the meat section which I can say was, overall, fully stocked and the filled with helpful store associates. Tried to order subs and 1 pizza online. System slowly prompted to order on separate tickets. Ok - no problem but yes inconvenient. Tried to reorder subs only first - system gave message about order activity and promptly crashed. Order wiped for 3 super specialized subs. After a few more attempts - gave up online. Tried to call. No one answered but I was determined. Young man finally transferred me to deli to place my order. After which, no one bothered to pick up the phone. I hung up now fully disgusted. Now THIS is a Harris-Teeter! After my disappointing visit to the Army Navy location recently, I decided to give this one a try. Underground parking for free, quick access into the store, clean and easy-to-find (and if you cannot find something, there are printed maps on the end of the aisles). Lots of self-checkout lanes that actually work, and a big wine section. I'm sure this place gets busy mid-day on the weekends, but I was there early, so it was a breeze. The parking garage is a nightmare when the store is crowded. It is oddly sectioned off and HT customers can only use certain sections. True, it's covered in bad weather but the spaces are very tight if you're driving anything larger than a Mini Cooper. Inside the store, the produce looked old, picked over, and expensive. Grapefruit aren't supposed to be green. They do have a decent beer/wine selection and a hot bar that seems okay but overall they are overpriced and having friendly employees doesn't make up for the inconvenience and expense of shopping here. If I was in desperate need of food in bad weather I might come other but otherwise I don't see any compelling reason to return. read more

This is a really small HT. They also had 0 packs of chicken breasts when I was here on a Sunday afternoon. They did have sodium-free bread my husband was searching for and had yet to find anywhere else but Whole Foods, but, still, the chicken.....Staff was super friendly and we were asked by no less than 4 people if we needed help finding anything. That is such a departure from the typical grocery store experience that I am still in shock! I probably will not come here again since I live across the street from a more fully stocked location and just happened to be driving by here, but, if I needed something in a pinch and was nearby, I would probably still stop in. read more

My go-to Harris teeter. They have a great wine and cheese selection as well as being a regular grocery store. The sushi is GOOOOODDDDD. I really like the spicy salmon roll. Their hot bar is standard and they have a prime rib deal on Thursdays which is a steal. Overall it's your typical Harris teeeter but the one I frequent. read more

This is a nice store! What's especially nice is that since it's so new, the carts are all still in good shape. You know when you go to a grocery store and you pick the cart with the wobbly wheel and it doesn't roll well? You don't have to worry about that at this Harris Teeter...for now at least. They also have big carts, little carts, and miniature carts for your shopping child (see photo). Adorable. Once you get used to the layout it's more second nature. It's kind of weird there's no street entrance and you have to go through the garage, even if you're walking, but there is a sidewalk so it feels safe and not sketchy. However, that leads us to the next positive (if you drive): it doesn't matter if it's raining, snowing, or super windy; since you are parked in the garage where the entrance to the store is, you never have to go outside with your groceries. You know how that is... you buy all of these groceries and have 12 bags in your cart that you're trying to push while you hold open an umbrella that's flipping upwards and somehow try to make sure your purse isn't getting wet on the inside. Yep, not a problem here! Also, let us rejoice in the free parking! Hallelujah! HT is a bit more expensive than alternative grocers but it's really nice and convenient. If I have to go to Target for something, I will still buy some groceries there that are less expensive, but I like to going to Harris Teeter and utilizing true grocery store benefits..like the salad bar, Chinese food bar (!), samples (!!), etc., etc. Happy Shopping! read more

What's better than Harris Teeter? How about a Harris Teeter that's no longer flooded with human waste? That's right, the Potomac Yard Harris Teeter has renovated and reopened after a long year and a half, and it's great! This Harris Teeter closed down right around the time I came to the neighborhood, and I've been anxiously awaiting its reopening. They had to pretty much destroy the entire store and build it new, and I have to say it was worth the wait. Also, they're giving 10 percent off everything at this store for the first week (through Tuesday 10/29). While the layout is more maze-like than other Harris Teeter stores, it had everything I needed, and the prepared foods section is much better than what I've seen at other stores. Parking is free in the garage, and the store is open 24/7. The only thing that was really lacking was a decent ethnic foods section. They just had one shelf in the middle of the frozen foods aisle, so I'm docking one star. Sad. I'll be back all the time, and I'm never going back to Pentagon Row Harris Teeter if I can help it. read more

I used to live further out in NOVA and frequented Harris Teeter. This one is a little smaller than most (urban). It lacks a large selection but is fairly convenient. Word of advice...stay away from the rotisserie chicken...it's super dry and 25-30% of it is so dry it's un-edible. I never had a problem at any other teeter I've visited, however this one almost always leaves them out too long or over cooks them. read more

The more I've shopped here, the more problems I've experienced. On several occasions I've purchased dairy products only to realize a few days later that they've expired. I know I should check the date before putting something in my cart, but they really need to rotate stock better. I spoke to a neighbor who told me she's experienced the exact same problem and won't shop there anymore. Also, I've found quite a few products listed on "sale" only to have them ring up at full price at the register. Also, the attitudes of some of the people here suck. In general I love me a Harris teeter. The food quality and selection is a step up from other chains without being super expensive. The staff at the deli, seafood, stickers are always helpful and friendly. I have learned, however, that at this location some of the checkout workers will not help you bag your groceries AT ALL even when it is not crowded in the store. In the day and age of self checkout and home delivery I think it is expected that this would be an expectation of the job. If I have enough groceries to go to a line with an actual person checking me out I expect help. It also holds up the line when I am bagging on my own because I'm it going to pay until I'm done. I will likely continue to go to Harris teeter but only for small purchases that I will self checkout. There are plenty of other places that will help bag large orders OR places that are cheaper to bag your own items. read more

I was here yesterday for grocery shopping...tough economic...trying to eat at home more. I grabbed my few essentials (pork and beef) and some green beans. I noticed the Lysol cleaning stuff was on sale for buy one get one free. I grabbed two for cleaning down my apt before the parental visit in two weeks. I got to the cash register, it didn't rang up the Lysol as buy one get one free!!! Of course, I told him that's a mistake cuz there was a sale sign at the shelf. He called management (yes...I am those people that hold the line up for proper price checks!) Management went back to the aisle and verified the Lysol is on sale. She didn't just fixed my transaction to reflect buy one get one free. She gave them to me for FREE for the inconvenience!!! Granted it wasn't a lot of money, but it showed customer service. Thanks!!! I love my HT. I am distraught over the fact that it is closed right now due to Arl County sewage screw up. Some say 5 weeks, some say 5 months. Glad they are keeping on all the employees at different area stores during this time. I hope its sooner rather than later! I tried shopping at Giant last night, it was an underwhelming experience to say the least. I actually found a lot of items more expensive than HT. Regarding the complaints the prices are bad. The prices are good if you shop the weekly deals. We always stock up on items, like Arnold bread, when they are BOGO. That happens about once every couple months, so we will buy 2 or 3 and throw them in the freezer. Sure WalMart's everyday prices might be better, but there are about a million reasons why that does not matter to me: weekly BOGO deals, store cleanliness, corporate responsibility, produce selection, and availability of good brands like boars heads meats. read more

If you're still striking out because what you want is only stocked by huge chain grocery stores, head to Harris Teeter. Tasty samples abound at this Harris Teeter location, and they have a bountiful selection of organic cranberries and fresh jumbo lump crab for my Thanksgiving appetizers, along with a decent assortment of chocolate bars and port. I normally love Harris Teeter, but feel compelled to note two recent disappointments I had with this particular store. 1) A package of smoked trout paté i bought was moldy, and had no "best by" date stamp on the exterior. I'm reviewing a grocery store mostly out of venting frustration not because I think anything will change. This Teeter is CONSTANTLY out of things I'm trying to buy. -They've stopped carrying Grapefruit LaCroix and the La Croix they do have, boy you better be there on delivery day to get any choices, it's constantly raided -Despite having a tag for Lance Gold n Cheese crackers, they haven't had these for month than a month, despite me talking to a manager specifically about that -Today, they didn't have Frank's Buffalo sauce and my all time favorite.... -Once they didn't have corn mean. CORN MEAL PEOPLE. -They have also been out of basil I hate that I keep coming back here in hopes that they will have a few of these items in stock (since annoyingly Giant carries neither La Croix or Gold n Cheese or flavors of V8 lite fusion or a Lean Pocket I enjoy). When I moved to NoVA, people raved about this place endlessly. So, being a foodie I made a trip. To 2 different stores. Wow was I disappointed. Overrated. Why do people like this place? I do not understand it. The cafe food is not edible and this place is otherwise like a Giant/other large grocery chain. They don't stock much organic produce or anything else that I regularly consume. I can get junk food and ubiquitous name brands at Target. Pros: -I can walk to the store from my apartment (so I can't attest to the lack or abundance of parking) -More variety than other grocery stores -MUCH friendlier staff than other grocery stores (I usually get asked if I need help no fewer than three times during a shopping trip) -I've never seen the store crowded The only con I see is price. I don't shop here often enough that I can do an accurate cost comparison but the few times I've come it does seem quite a bit more expensive than Shoppers, and I don't really see a huge difference in quality of produce or anything. For my major shopping I'll suck it up and fight the crazies at Shoppers...but if I'm looking for something special and want good service (and it's small enough to carry in my backpack), I'll go to HT. read more
