Dear Harris-Teeter, The Plaza-Midwood HT doesn't reflect the caliber of grocery shopping that you have always set. You can do better and I can prove it! Your stores have above-average customer service, selection, and are consitently stocked. As a loyal shopper, let me suggest one of two options: expand the store or make it a niche store. This location is particularly cramped; shoppers like me have to offer akward "excuse me, I'm trying to get to those blessed Twinkies" to other shoppers. It's hard to tell if someone is waiting in the check-out line or lingering around those endcap toilet paper specials. I know you guys want to have it all, buts it ain't happening here. If you can't expand, maybe you could make this a niche HT store- focusing on hot sellers, like 'beverages' or olives n' cheeses. I'm hoping that you'll consider revamping this store. I usually come to this Harris Teeter to "hang out" after I go to the library and/or I come intentionally just to sit. I knew they had an outdoor area but when I realized they also had a place near the Starbucks inside, that gave me more reason to sit inside, then I realized they had a place upstairs to sit! I haven't bought much here except maybe from their "buy the pound" food, sweets near the registers and juice/soda/bottled tea. And I use their pharmacy (which they have always been nice thus far..for the few months I have been with them since switching from Horrible Walgreens after they bought Rite Aid). I enjoy sitting here, even when others are around, they don't bother you usually. Most are there to just relax as well & use the Wi-Fi, which is Free. It's nice to people watch when you're sitting outside or downstairs on the inside. If you're upstairs, facing Uptown, it's nice to see the Skyline light up at night or watch the cars go by. I have yet to sit outside yet because it's been kind of cold and/or raining when I have gone up there. I haven't had to "deal" with many of the cashiers because I usually use the self check outs. I tend to get there when it isn't extremely busy so I can't speak for some of the other things other posters have spoke on. It's usually pretty slow to mildly busy when I am there. read more

The sub shop employees here are the most lazy and hateful people I have ever met. I hate that this is my neighborhood grocery store. Harris teeter should be ashamed of the quality of food these people try to give out and the customer service from the employees is TERRIBLE! I came in at 4:00 pm on 2/19/19. No one in line, two employees walk away from the counter, a third employee walks up about 3-4 minutes later hating that she has to work and make a sandwich. Slops what few things I asked for on the sandwich, I asked for it to be cut in half and she gets mad. Harris Teeter, get rid of people that do not want their job. You can find plenty of people that are willing to actually do their job for their pay. read more

This place fails at every main grocery store metric. Inventory is always low. Basic items will be sold out. I try to pre-order pizza and it is forgotten about. Whoever designed the parking lot needs to find a new career as well. Will not be back. read more

Worst and most surly customer service I have ever experienced. Cashiers insist on making conversation with each and every patron even as we insist that we are in a hurry. I am almost certain that this is part of management training and I have made it a point to shop at other less expensive grocers in order to sidestep this awkward attitude. My reasoning: if I am going to the effort to purchase necessary household items from a retailer which must be done on a weekly basis, then I should not be expected to produce a sincere repoire with store employees etc who are increasingly bold in their expectations. Ex: I have an injured and swollen knee however I was expected to stand on it for 30 minutes with groceries in hand while the "express" cashier capriciously ignored waiting patrons and carried on her personal dialogue with stunning voracity. Are these people trained to display a minimum if empathy? Is this where "customer service" is headed? When I showed signs of pain while waiting I was given a shopping cart to rest on by another patron and security was called over to watch me in case I caused a scene. November 4th 2017: no improvement. Same ineffective service...forcing patrons to engage in casual and personal Conversation during the check out process while others wait in line patiently. Everyone should be aware that this location charges an additional sales tax on top of the North Carolina sales tax. This Harris Teeter charges you an additional 1%. Check your receipt and you'll see sales tax number 1 at 7.25% and sales tax number 2 at 1%. This is messed up and I will not come here again read more

The new store is obviously an improvement over the old one, but it is still a bit wonky. The parking lot is tight, the store layout is confusing, and the prices are higher than other HT stores. Although, the service was quite friendly and I didn't have to wait in line ... on a weekend. read more

Have to give a special appreciation for Kelvin in the meat department. I ordered a salmon filet and asked to have the skin removed and Kelvin was very hospitable and did an excellent job skinning the filet. I have tried to do that before but was not very good at it. Thank you very much. read more

I love Harris Teeter, but I wasn't thrilled with this location. Parking is extremely limited, and the store really isn't big enough to accommodate the volume of shoppers. The produce and deli sections were outstanding, but the central aisles left a lot to be desired. I am used to a wider selection of products that this location simply couldn't accommodate. Bonus: they do free wine tastings three days a week, but that's really the only reason I would return to this location. read more

Amazing super market! They have a great salad bar, fresh sushi, subs made to order and you can stop in for lunch take it upstairs and enjoy with a view of uptown. Its a very clean store, always stocked up and employees are very helpful! read more

I have definitely been to better Harris Teeters. Everything is good here except one thing that just drives me up the wall, those stupid self checkout centers. There seems to be 10 or so people always walking around up front doing who knows what except for running a register. I understand they are convenient for some but not for people who get a good amount of stuff. They aren't paying me to scan it and bag it. Human interaction here is worse than Wal-Mart. I don't understand what everyone up front is doing. Someone should know how to operate a cash register. If they don't have trainers, I can train them since I do it myself all the time. read more

Love this Harris Teeter; parking can be crowded at times but it's best to go early in the morning or early afternoon or later in the evening. Lunch time is very busy. If I could give no stars, I would do that. By default, this Harris Teeter gets one star. I read through other reviews before writing this, mainly to make sure I am not overreacting to what I think are basic grocery store requirements. As expected, many people have shared similar sentiments. These are my specific issues with this HT: * Stock: This is awful. Call this a first world problem, but when I go to a grocery store for something specific, it should be there. I understand there are sales and things can sell out (I'll touch on that more soon), but I'm first referring to simple items. For example, zucchini, sour cream, and chicken broth, to name a few. Those are items that should always be stocked. When you go to a grocery store, you would expect those to be there, right? It's like going to a movie theater and expecting popcorn to be available. These general items that I've needed, this Harris Teeter has been out of when I need it. Unacceptable. Circling back to the sale items that go out of stock. Things can sell quick when they're on sale, but even an average inventory manager and/or inventory management system can prepare for an upcoming sale. As always expected, though, sale items at this Harris Teeter always sell out quickly without any additional stock. There have been other occurrences where they have been out of olives from the olive bar.....and another time when they were out of the olive bar containers! Honestly, how do you run out of containers? * Parking: Worst parking lot ever. Someone mentioned how unnecessary designated spots are for every type of person. I completely agree. I get what they're trying to do, but an already small parking lot can't afford to have so many unnecessary designated spots go unused. At peak hours, even the streets directly around HT are full. It sucks for anyone parking on streets because the carts lock up when you try to leave the perimeter. I get it's for loss prevention purposes, but it's an annoyance that makes an already poor shopping experience more annoying. * Checkout Process: Long, aggravating, and inefficient. First off, they need conveyor belts. Allowing customers to put items on the conveyor belt would speed up the process for the cashier. Second, I don't personally care if my cashier likes or doesn't like each item I am purchasing. I appreciate attempts for conversation, but I'm not there for a cashier to start a conversation about every item. And finally, they need to open more lanes at peak time. The most lanes I've ever seen open at peak time is four. That's not enough. Bonus material here; the express checkout at the other entrance at the corner of Central/The Plaza? What a crap show. This doesn't necessarily fall on HT, but the 10 Items or Less requirement certainly does not apply. Especially at non-peak hours, that line should be quick as it's intended. Yet, people show up there with 20+ items. I once saw a person being checked out with a full cart of items. I lost count at 35 items. Again, not necessarily HT's fault, but it's their fault for not enforcing the rule. It's annoying and extremely frustrating having one item and looking to get in and out real quick. And why have two registers there? I've NEVER seen both registers open, EVER. * Customer Service: Not the worst, but still poor. They've been pretty easy to deal with the many times I've had to get rain checks (see Stock issue above). However, they're never efficient. One time, there were five people in front of me as I waited to ask for rain checks. The one customer service rep (yup, only one!) didn't call for help nor did he appear to have any urgency. I waited almost 15 minutes to get to the front. That's even after the guy in front of me annoyingly left. When I got to the front, the line behind me was almost 10 people deep, but still no call for help. Some other items to call out: * Why stock when it's packed with customers? I feel like they've made attempts to increase their stocking, but it seems they now only do it when it's the busiest. I don't feel like this store is even that large in comparison to other HT's, so already being packed with customers makes it more difficult trying to navigate around an inefficient stocker. * Lights off at 11:30pm. They close at Midnight, but yet they turned the lights off on me. I literally had to get my phone out to see the items I was trying to get out of the cooler. When I said something, I was told it was to conserve energy. Yeah, I get that, but during business hours? I think that covers it for now. All in all, I really hate this Harris Teeter. It's down the street from my house, but I honestly go out of my way to go to other locations. There is a reason this is the lowest rated Charlotte Harris Teeter on Yelp. Something drastically needs to change with this location. If we are all lucky, someway, somehow, a Publix or Whole Foods will open in Plaza Midwood. read more

The good: New store, Starbucks inside, usually pretty clean, decent selection, organic produce section, most departments are kept reasonably well stocked. The bad: parking. You will understand when you experience it, the person who designed the parking lot for this Teeter had to have had a really twisted sense of humor... The lot wouldn't even work well if everyone drove a small energy efficient fiat... And every other spot is exclusively labeled so good luck parking even when you do find an empty spot. Organic/fresh/natural meats: poor selection. The seafood is a joke (they listed something that looked like talapia or orange roughy for $7lb advertised as "Alaskan cod" (if you know anything about Alaskan black cod, you know this price point is not possible for anything short of a cheap imitation.) sausage / ground beef section is carcinogen friendly, with almost no choice for an organic / no antibiotics/no nitrates/no preservatives option. The net: I like this teeter, but mgmt really needs to redesign parking and invest in a healthier meat department. read more

While the store is clean and centrally located, it's also tiny (so less selection) and the parking lot is stupid small and impossible to navigate. For the most part, I avoid this HT for purely those reasons. If I lived in the area (like, walking distance), this would happily be my main store, as it is, I'll be going to Cotswald. read more

I'm not gonna give a rating yet. I'm glad that they are remodeling the store it is cramped i also have had a hard time finding certain items i too find myself driving 8 miles to university for stuff. Okay. So I was kind of shocked to see all the negative reviews BUT then again the parking really does suck. So because of this I gave them a 4 out of possible 5. The parking SUCKS. BUT THE REST OF THE STORE IS AMAZING. People complaining about the simple things need to realize its hard to accommodate all of the pp trying to shop at this Harris Teeter. They are building in the area like crazy and this neighborhood (Plaza Midwood) is not only 2 miles from Uptown but VERY pedestrian friendly. Sooo yes the parking is pretty hectic but realize where you are...basically uptown. There is a STARBUCKS inside and the Salad Bar and ASIAN BAR are great. I walk or drive there for lunch all the time. I work on Commonwealth Ave. which is right around the corner. Just don't get anything at the salad bar after 3. The lettuce will be wilted and everything is picked thru. And the lines are long...but I still can't give them a 3 because of the convenience factor. You can't get a real grocer in the uptown area in Charlotte. That's mainly why they stay so busy. read more

Sale items don't ring up correctly, so make sure you check your receipt. I find at least two mistakes every visit. Long lines. They don't seem to value customers and act like they are doing me a favor by being open. I don't go here anymore. There are plenty of other options in the area. read more

Horrible parking lot is always full, parking spaces are narrow and cramped even for my small imported car. The employees are great though. They are always friendly and helpful even if they are a bit slow scanning my items its okay because they are so nice. This location is ALWAYS changing inventory and every time I find a product I love they stop carrying it. I know its not because the product doesnt sell because the are always running out. Stop discontinuing merchandise! Its driving me nuts. Also they are always out of items I need, literally every time I go there. The isles are cramped and there are often people stocking with isles blocked by boxes when i go in and the location needs about twice as many of the small carts because its so crowded you cant navigate with the large ones. Also please open more lanes during peak hours. Basically this store is being picked clean and overcrowded because Plaza Midwood is being overdeveloped with apartments and needs another good grocery store. read more

So, as a Plaza-Midwood resident, I had been anticipating the opening of our store with much excitement. The futuristic meets Art Deco exterior is eye catching and draws one inside. But, that is where the charm stops. The interior looks like another big box store. For its size, I am not noting an increase in selection compared to the old store. The parking is terrible, but I do understand that they only have so much space available. There is an upstairs which I have not seen, but have been led to believe that it is a dining area. The staff appear to be radiant and welcoming for the most part. Aside from one cashier, who carded me when I was buying wine and then said, "just kidding," the workers have been polite and helpful. However, I do believe that the new store s a boon to our neighborhood. And hopefully with time, I will begin to make fond memories the way I did with the original HT. read more

Loved this place! Cannot understand all the picky reviews. Very good variety. Staff was really gracious and helpful, they had a good share of organics too. Impressed about the living roof and lighting which means a lot to me. (PS I almost missed.the tiny overly modest sign about the roof. You can brag a little more...) I like the size of the store since I don't like shopping in a football field. Last but not least, I can walk to it and bring my shopping cart. Yay! read more

What a relief to finally have this store reopen. It's very clean, organized and has, from all my experiences to date, a very helpful and friendly staff. Despite whining by other yelpers, the aisles are certainly wide enough and all the initial crowds have died down. The parking lot is certainly not gratuitous but it's more than sufficient. Still, if you shop at 2:00 pm on a Saturday afternoon, don't act surprised that the lot is full. You want a lot of parking spaces, shop in the suburbs. The sushi and deli depts. are fantastic as is the meat/seafood counter. It's all very tempting and might result in spending more than you planned, but a bit of planning and restraint is necessary as everything looks so good. Just went in to get a Sub from this store. For the third time in a row, the sandwich maker was horrible. He seemed miserable, incredibly unhappy to be at work. This can only speak to the management above him. I believe that they should be aware of their employees' lack of motivation. All I can say is I look forward to Publix taking over. read more

I want to start off by saying the Harris Teeter on the Fort Mill exit from I-485 Is absolutely amazing. The staff is friendly (Dion I believe is the guy's name who always helps me now) and the seafood is always fresh. If anything is from the day before they'll go back and get whatever is thawing out for that day and package for my safety and peace of mind. Now I would like to address what is a reoccurring situation at one of the other two locations I now visit far less. I went to Harris Teeter on Central Ave here in Charlotte NC yesterday afternoon (store #401) & purchased a pound of shrimp. We headed to this location because traffic is a nightmare near Fort Mill at certain times. Now the day before I was told at the Fort Mill location I had a lot of "Fresh Catch points" and that with my VIC card I'd receive $5 off my next seafood purchase. When I got to the register and gave my VIC associated number to the cashier, she stated the points do not show up on my account. So I go to customer service and they print my receipt which clearly shows my points are being accumulated but apparently I cannot use them. He instructed me to call the corporate number on my receipt. We just buy the shrimp and went home immediately after, placed the shrimp in the fridge and when I opened the package later, guess what it smelled like? Ammonia. That's right. The shrimp was bad. I've mad this complaint before to the store, about this location as well as the Mt Holly-Huntersville (Mountain Island) location and I cannot understand what is happening within this chain where this is an issue at multiple locations. Usually I just throw my paid for food away and accept the loss, or worst case, write them on Twitter about it. But this is a reoccurring problem. I drove ALL THE WAY ACROSS TOWN just to return this shrimp. When the customer service rep appeared behind the desk and I explained the situation she opened the bad and clearly acknowledged the rancid smell of the seafood. Then she called the manager of the "meat & seafood department" who proceeded to tell me "I'm sorry but we don't get complaints but we can refund you your money." A refund is great but when I told her I'm not complaining just because, and that she can smell the food herself, she declined and stated "I don't like seafood." I couldn't help but wonder why she was there even talking to me then. Whether it's bad or not won't be determined by a person who doesn't even care to look at or smell the product. Furthermore, explaining that you get "fresh shipments daily" doesn't resolve the problem that I'm standing here less than 24 hours later with shrimp that is CLEARLY bad. Fresh shrimp doesn't go bad in a fridge in under 12 hours. Not even 24 hours. And the smell of ammonia is a clear indication that it isn't not edible. I didn't waste my money or gas for this mess. This whole situation was handled poorly. I just got my refund and left. All I asked for after multiple bad experiences is a refund. I'm pregnant and I can't take chances, especially with seafood. However, it's only a matter of time before the wrong person has this experience and they find themselves with a totally preventable lawsuit. If it were not for the consistently great experience at the Fort Mill location I would be completely done with HT. Like, permanently. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years. I've seen the store remodeled. I've seen parking dwindle as customer shopping has increased. Impossible store for quick parking, shopping, checkout. More importantly, the produce department ALWAYS looks terrible at 6am when they open. Unless Corporate big shots are coming-then it looks like I think it should look when the store opens. Dairy-from cheese, to yogurt, to eggs almost any morning of the week there are pallets of these type products lining the dairy aisle and no one putting them up. Note: this area sits directly underneath heat vents. Could sit there unrefrigerated for an hour or more. Certainly this could and probably does shorten shelf life. Ditto on the lunch meats etc that occupy the other side of the dairy aisle. Disappointing store in so many ways. Some nice folks work there and that is a bright spot, but, over all, not the Harris Teeter it should be. I'm still a Teeter shopper, I just drive miles away to a better store. read more
