This is a large grocery store especially considering that is in the center of Falls Church. There's an underground parking lot. The store has a bit of an odd shape; it is L-shaped. There is an extensive selection of products. I've been a fan of HT for many years. We first encountered HT when vacationing in South Carolina. We were glad to see them expand into the DC area but haven't used them much since previously none of their locations were convenient. This store has a bakery, deli, and meat counters. They offer prepared meals and sandwiches. They also have an extensive beer and wine selection and tasting bar where they serve wine and draft beer. I had a grilled sandwich and ate it a table by the beer with a flight of beer. I'll be back. read more

The parking is a garage that is shared with an apartment complex so the good news is it's covered, the bad news is the garage is confusing/annoying to navigate and the spaces are tight. The grocery store itself is okay and I'll come back here if I need something but on a regular basis I'll stick with Giant or Aldi. read more

After ten years in New York, I am ingrained to think that just about any well-lit store with enough room for me not to bang my backpack on the groceries on each side of the aisle qualifies as a five-star grocery experience. What I'm saying is that grocery stores in Manhattan are small and desolate experiences. Before we moved to Falls Church, my aunt who lives nearby had been scoping out the area and helping us arrange things at the house. And she could not stop raving about the Harris Teeter that had just opened - we had to check it out. That's high praise for a grocery store, but she has proven to be right in just about every facet of the store. Aside from being a good anchor for a denser and more-walkable FC core, it also does all the basic things I expected of it before visiting it the first time: bright, clean, and overflowing with merchandise. The produce is well kept/organized, and I very rarely see anything that wouldn't be top choice of a chef looking for ingredients. There's wide varieties of everything, and they always seem to be well stocked (even for out of season stuff like cucumbers). The frozen section is definitely not skimped on, and there are the neat eco-friendly cases that don't light up unless you're walking by. Plenty of ice cream options as well. The prepared foods are excellent, and often there will be an employee cutting fresh prime rib that you can take home for a meal which comes in really handy if your primary cook is out of town. The deli counter is robust and their fish counter seems to have actual fish-knowledgeable folks working there. And that's what makes this place a true five-star experience -- the people. I have never been in a shopping experience with such consistently amicable, welcoming, and helpful people that I can remember. Seriously - they were handing out maps when they first opened, as well as constantly coming around and asking if they can help. When I once brought my nine-month-old son in his walker on a Saturday night*, not only did they not give me the stink eye, they actively encouraged him to run down the aisles. Sure, it helped that we purposefully came at a relatively slow time, but that's pretty high touch right there. And there's a bar here! Open until 10pm! So if you're with someone doing some in-depth frozen food hunting and you're not interested, you can grab a beer or a glass of wine right in the middle of the store. What will they think of next? I really love this store** and don't understand all the hate it gets. We constantly drive here despite living walking distance of the Giant (which is perfectly acceptable) because it's fresher, more welcoming, and better. * - when the cool parents do their grocery shopping. I realize it is difficult finding any help these days, but HT could do a better job of training what little they have. Most of the cashiers act as if they really don't want to be there, with no pleasant greeting or friendliness, same with the deli counter and the bakery. Bakery counter you can never find anyone, and the deli counter folks are just rude. I have found some of the sales items when I get to check out were not changed to reflect the new price, so beware. Shopping carts clog the entrance in the garage area and trash bins overflowing, guess nobody cares. This store is in my neighborhood and would be convenient for my grocery shopping, but I find myself avoiding it on a regular basis. All around a poorly managed establishment. read more

I had to be in the area for a meeting. I decide to stop by at this store for some quick shopping. I ended up at the beer and wine bar and had a glass of Pinot noir. The fellow behind the counter "Caleb" was good with service. He quickly opened a new bottle and pour my glass. I am impressed by Hari's Teeter should offer some water and also some peanuts etc to guest. Either at charge or complimentary which ever is right. Bring empty stomach you can get drunk quick. Rest all good. Also perhaps people should be able to pay for food items at bar if possible. So they can grab something and continue to have or enjoy wine / beer. read more

Would give 1 or 2 stars if didn't want to deal with hassle from the store (a feature that should be eliminated because places you review and give less than 3 stars can bother you about your review). Quality is lower than other local Harris Teeters. Layout is a maze and not logical in places. Specifically designed as part of this new construction so makes no sense. Can't see through some of the isles. Wine and beer selection put an outstanding local mom and pop store out of business. They knew wine and served you. No one to help you at a grocery store and selection is what you'd expect at a grocery store. Flavor of the month trending products. OK selection of wine but if you don't know wine you'll have no idea why to buy what. Passover selection is a joke. Don't even have Passover Coke, the original form with sugar and no HCFS which has been a staple for over 50 years, which whatever your religion is a well known "secret" among true Coke lovers. Seriously, Chanukah candles? Don't have to celebrate the holiday to know that's messed up. Checkout is hit or miss. Sometimes it's well staffed to the point of cashiers pulling you out of line to ring you up right away (best thing about this Harris Teeter). Other times it's understaffed. At these times the person at the self checkout should be at a register. Managers can be difficult to find. Often the counter where where you find them is empty. How much of this is due to change in ownership, don't know. The Harris Teeters close by have all gone down a notch. The managers who used to be at the old store for years that was the primary grocery shopping location disappeared suddenly. It's been a rotation of managers so don't even know who they are and they don't get to know customers. Gave up going there to go to this one. Even though it's closer it never was well run and was inferior to next closest store that used before this one opened. Only come here because it's closer and functionally no difference in quality among Harris Teeters. read more

Really friendly, clean and usually well-stocked grocery store in what passes for downtown Falls Church. I really like their cheese selection, their bakery, and their wine and pizza bars. Every Monday a full pizza pie is $7.99! A couple of gripes -- why not stock the Falls Church City trash stickers, carried by Giant and other stores in town? And though Starbucks coffee is often on sale and thus affordable, the large-size Starbucks bags only seem to come ground, not as whole bean. Not life-altering to be sure, but an annoyance. read more

The reason I don't give this store 5 stars is because I always have trouble navigating the store. The staff are very helpful though, especially the guy in the seafood department. We really want to love this place. It's close, convenient, and has a lot of high quality items. But I've never been here when they weren't completely out of some important staple item. And some of the cashiers need to be trained (found a bag in my cart this time with bread and a 3-lb bag of onions together. It was crushed underneath a 12 pack of soda cans). Assistant Manager hit my disabled friend with a chair on her shoulder to get her to leave rather than inform her that he was closing the cafe early (there were 5 of us eating and drinking at 8:30pm on Wednesday). Air quality is low with poor circulation (perhaps to get customers to buy more drinks at the Starbucks?). Do not expect online advertising to reflect in store products or services, they run out of sale items and they open Starbucks closer to 7 am than 6. Signage in isles is wrong and items are often not sold at listed purchase price (always higher, coincidently). Sometimes there are bugs flying in the store, except when the birds catch them (true stories) I had a roach crawl on my table once. I have been kicked out right after purchasing dinner there along with 10 other people being told they were closing early because barely anyone was there before 8pm on a Sunday. They are the only grocer in a mile radius, so me without car is S.O.L. If you have an option, go somewhere else. read more

First time here. We parked in the garage and rode up on the escalator. Very large store with a huge sitting area by the Starbucks counter. Great variety of food. Did the self-checkout. Wouldn't scan our loyalty card or accept the number when we entered it. Were confused on where the Down escalator was but finally saw the sign. The people behind us had a cart and put it on the cart escalator. We were marveling at this technology, and then the machine broke. Meanwhile the people are still moving down. read more

This is our new grocery store, and I have to say I am pretty impressed. Parking is easy in an underground garage that leads right into the store. The escalator brings you upstairs (and has a cart section if you need to take it back down) into the street-level entrance. Produce has always been fresh when we have gone - no issues there. There are also a variety of products available to choose from. If you're brand loyal, you should not have any difficulty finding the brand you would like here. I do not suggest going on a Sunday afternoon/evening. It does not appear that they keep stocking on Sundays, so by the end of the day many shelves are empty, especially of essential items (e.g., milk). The employees at the deli are very helpful. I am used to ordering a certain type of cheese, but this Harris Teeter does not carry it. They let me taste the new cheese before I decided to purchase it, and let me take my time with my decision. The cashiers have been okay, but some need lessons in spatial relationships, as at least two of them have not been able to fit our bags in our carriage (upon some tetris-like rearrangement, everything fit perfectly for us). Check the fliers for coupons, and try to sign up for those online if you can. They will periodically send them out. Most of our deals come from VIC savings. read more

You know how sometimes you're surprised that things went as smoothly as you'd hoped they go when you're planning something? That was what my experience at Harris Teeter was like when ordering cake, cupcakes, and balloons for my son's birthday. I came in on a Friday to order cakes and cupcakes for my son's birthday picnic which was supposed to be on Sunday - only 48 hours notice for the cake! The bakery manager Luis was amazing. I showed him a picture of a yellow batman buttercream cake with chocolate drippings that I was hoping to create for my son's superhero birthday - and even though the store's policy is that they need 72 hours notice - he said no problem. He also arranged the cupakes that I ordered for my son's birthday in a giant number 4 pattern for my son's age - no extra charge for the arrangement, the gold cake thing that it came on top of it - nothing. The final product was super professional looking and tasted AMAZING. 8 inch round 2 layer chocolate cake with strawberry filling and custom frosting- $19.99. 24 cupcakes arranged in a giant 4 pattern =$18! Can't beat that - and did I mention they tasted great and the staff was super helpful and even walked the cakes out to my car? Also, props to the Lynn Harper who helped me with balloons and was just all around helpful in terms of making sure that I had what I needed for that day. The staff at the check out lanes were so sweet too - they helped me to hide the Lucky Charms cereal for St. Patrick's so that my daughter who was with me at the store would still be surprised and believe that a leprechaun scattered it at our house - instead of letting her see me buy it! This place has got it all. It is by far the largest grocery in the area. You could also say it's a combination of smaller stores with in a store. For example there is a wine tasting and liquor department that is easily the size of a liquor store in itself. They have salad bars hot bars, a global pizza and cheese station, a huge deli, lots of frozen birthday cakes, a create your own trail mix bar and a generous selection of gluten-free foods. I will definitely go back to this location as everything is brand-new and very impressive. read more

Nice store, a little pricey, but has some unique items, such as Pimento Cheese, etc. This store needs to re-evaluate how they cook their rotisserie chickens, though. I've had them from other HT's and they're usually moist and delicious. But at this Falls Church store, they should call it Death Valley Chicken...dry as a bone! I bought one a couple of weeks ago, took one bite and into the trash it went. I bought another tonight. This time I checked each of those (horrible) plastic containers, and I did not see a drop of chicken fat in any of them. I bought one...pretty much as dry as the one I threw out. I love this grocery store! It's right around the corner from my house. I can even walk if i wanted to. You can spend a day here. Get some starbucks, do some work on the patio, have happy hour here at the wine section and get fresh pizza, Chinese, chicken or salad. These 5 stars should go to Larry. I went there Saturday around 7:30 and the dairy cooler was almost empty. So I needed more of the buttermilk and there was only a couple. Then we started looking for an associate to ask them if they could go in the walking cooler and see if there is more. We found Larry helping other people, and based what he was wearing I figured it was not his department. He apologized "like it was his fault" and said he was happy to help. So he went into that walking cooler and grabbed a whole case outside and told to get what I needed. And that is what I call a great service and if I were the GM there, Larry would've been a manager! You can tell the store has bad management. That store was a mess. I don't know how it is during day time though. read more

Decided to finally try the Wednesday night lobster dinner special ($11.99 for a small lobster, corn and potato). Was not expecting perfection given the price and the fact that this store seems very nice. However, the entire meal was cold, the butter was solid, the lobster was very watery and seemed undercooked. We ate at the wine bar which was great in that they provided the utensils to crack the lobster and the wine/beer selection and recommendations were good. My husband went to the restroom to wash his hands and there were no paper towels and though he looked for someone to replace them, he couldn't find anyone. I also went to the bathroom to wash my hands and paper towels also empty. Such a shame as I had high hopes it would be at least tasty and clean. read more

Went here for the first time yesterday. I appreciate the underground parking and the escalator that goes from the garage to the store. The store was pretty big (you wouldn't think that from driving past it); took me awhile to find my bearings. After going the store, I couldn't find the milk. I asked one of the workers in the produce section where milk was. He stopped what he was doing and walked with me all the way to the other side of the store and to the back where the milk was. I really appreciate that as he went above and beyond. His name was Andrew. The store has a lot of different food items but not all or as many brands as I'm used to seeing. I still can't tell if this store is more or less expensive than the surrounding grocery stores in the area. They do have a "hot bar" which Giant doesn't have. And all the various stations (cheese, desserts, fresh meat, bakery, etc.) all had sample stations where you could taste whatever cheese or meat they were advertising. Nice to get a little snack while you're shopping. I'll definitely go back, especially if I need to get groceries and it's snowing or raining outside - I'll be taking advantage of that garage parking. And if I don't feel like cooking, I'll take advantage of their hot bar. read more

I *love* this Harris Teeter. It's the only thing open when I get off work at 3 or 4 am. But recently every time I've tried to go to it its been closed for some sort of floor polishing or repairs. I understand that stores need maintenence, but I come to this store multiple times a week and saw no warning that it would be closed until I needed it. It sucks having to drive all the way to Dun Loring to find another Harris Teeter that's open, which we've never had a problem with being spontaneously closed for maintenence but Is very out of the way. read more

I like the convenience of being able to walk here from my apartment, I like the donuts, they have good prices on milk. But the issues I have are: 1. Minimally staffed checkout lanes, those that are staffed, the cashiers are SLOW and overly chatty. No express lanes. I do not want to be forced into self-serve, it's annoying, and I already have a job. If they want to save on labor costs, give us a discount for using the self-serve. 2. The same old same old selections in the hot bar day after day. Be creative, change it up! 3. Now that the honeymoon is over and the competitor across the street has closed, I no longer see free samples of cheese, deli meat, or fruit, even during lunch time. I used to frequent this store multiple times a week, but less and less now. Back to my mainstay, Giant. Even their customer service, long a selling point compared to Safeway, has gone downhill. We have been shopping at this Harris Teeter since it opened a few years ago. Prior to that we shopped at another Harris Teeter at the Lee Harrison shopping center in Arlington Va. The Harris Teeter at 301 West Broad St in Falls Church is glitzy, clean and exciting to shop in. So in the "flash" category it is great. All the bells and whistles, Starbucks, a pizza place, wine tasting, and much more. If you want to shop at a reliable, well stocked grocery store- go somewhere else. I recommend the Harris Teeter at Lee-Harrison in Arlington Va. it's stock reordering system is far more efficient. The "new" Falls Church HT on Broad Street experiences frequent stock-outs (empty shelves), and reduces product selection on a progressive basis. Two examples come to mind (there are others): 1. Tropicana Orange Juice with Zinc and vitamin C , started disappearing from the refrigerated section two months ago. Continued stock-outs were followed up by the complete removal of the product. Filling in, the Falls Church HT has expanded the Tropicana with Calcium space to take up the "Zinc" shelves. Customers can either special order or go somewhere else. 2. Heartland Cranberry Juice with Pomegranate, started stocking out 8 months ago. It was replaced with regular Heartland Cranberry Juice on the shelf and the shelf space was removed. Now it can only be special ordered. Store management(?) will not consider restocking it. Problem for this shopper is both the Lee-Harrison Harris Teeter and the "Giant" a few blocks away on Broad Street fully stock these products. Why waste time shopping at the Falls Church HT when competing stores nearby are better stocked all the time. Browse through the Falls Church Harris Teeter at 301 Broad Street, and note the numerous empty shelves for many, many products. Poor ordering follow through, all too frequent stock-outs and reduced product selection make shopping here very frustrating. I recommend going elsewhere. read more

I really want to love this store. Unfortunately, six months after opening they still haven't worked out some major kinks. There is never anybody working in this store in the evening so that means that the following things happen... 1. produce shelves are not restocked - last night there were 3 little boxes of one type of mushroom in the space set aside for at least six different varieties. 2. there is never enough help at the deli - each time I've been I've waited in very long lines because only 2 people were at the counter 3. most of the meat and fish is under the control of the butcher but there is rarely anybody working so you cannot get what you need 4. there are NEVER enough checkout lanes open - at 6:30 last night there were only two lanes open and there were at least 15 people with full carts trying to checkout. the manager was standing around doing nothing. The other major issue with this store is that it hasn't really decided who it is serving. So, even though they are one of the biggest HT stores in the country they are seriously lacking variety in certain areas. For example, don't go their to buy snack and lunchbox items as you won't have much choice. However, if you want to buy hot food that is ready to eat there are tons of choices. I really want to love this store, but I simply can't. I won't go back because I end up annoyed every single time I go. read more

HT was just opened and it is as everyone says. New. I must say I love new and sparkly things. This HT sure is clean, big, and shiny. A 24 hour grocery store was needed in downtown FC and I think this will serve it's purpose for when I run out of something while cooking and need to get it quick - OR if there is another blizzard this year (I'm hoping & praying). I generally do NOT shop at HT unless there is a good sale because I am more of a Local Market, Farmers Market, TJ's type but I can see the benefits and the appeal of coming here.
