Don't shop at this store! I went there yesterday and bought chicken salad and "fresh" salsa for the Superbowl. When I took the paper off the chicken salad it was dark yellow because the mayonnaise had spoiled. The salsa is so bad that it's fermented! In addition, staff is not friendly. This place is good if you live close by and need to grab a few things, but overall it's overpriced. Also, the produce is often spoiled. On numerous occasions I've picked through avocados that were nearly liquid, rotten garlic and onions, and mushy peppers and celery. Also, be sure the correct price rings up if the item is on sale. Quite a few times I've been ringing up items in the self checkout lane and see that the register scans the item at the full price. On the upside, the ladies in the deli department are nice, and they make good pizzas and subs. read more

I don't know what is going on with this store, but in the past few months this place has gone WAY downhill and it ranks as the worst Harris Teeter I've ever visited. Many shelves remain empty for weeks at a time. Not just because things are on sale; basic items are not restocked. I have started to drive over to the waterfront Safeway because I can't even get bagged vegetables here. What is stocked is often damaged or past the sell by date, and the floors near the deli end are so greasy it's almost like walking on ice. read more

Perfect addition for those of us who work in the Navy Yard area. My favorites: - Hot breakfast bar (so hot & yummy)!!!! - Awesome pizza (500x better than Navy Yard food court Sbarro's) - Great salad bar (if you don't feel like spending $10+ for a Sweetgreen salad) - Good sushi and the sushi chef will make you fresh anything off their [admittedly limited] menu Plus their produce is fresher than most grocery stores so I'll often pick up an apple or orange for daytime snack at work I think they've somewhat addressed the understaffing at lunchtime; I doubt they anticipated the crowds they actually draw for lunch. Employees are friendly and get the job done. Pro tip: if the "express" checkout lines are long, head to the self checkout. Those rarely ever have a line and you get to move at your own pace! For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to leave a tip, but found out the other day the breakfast bar closes at 10. Also found out it tastes way better at 0800 than 0955.... read more

The Navy Hard Harris Teeter is extremely clean on the inside and the atmosphere is very inviting. The ambiance makes you want to shop at HT all the time. What I don't like is how I show up to the sandwich counter between 6:30pm-7:00pm and the employees tell you that they are closed for the day. Are you serious!? The hours you have listed show that you don't close until 8pm. Shoot, even the HT by Potomac Gardens closes up at 8pm. The Navy Yard HT made me drive through that narrow parking garage, find a park, just to be told that they are done making sandwiches for the day!? It's not just me. Others are looking to have sandwiches be made during those times as well. It can't be the employees just taking it upon themselves to close early. That decision must be facilitate by a supervisor or a manager, so I'm pretty certain they are well aware of it and they are probably instructing their employees to close early. Since I'm pretty sure this is the case, they have poor management in my opinion. read more

My new Favorite Location ! I usually go in the evening or on the weekend . Free Parking is available in the garage and also on the street (not sure if free or metered.) This location is new clean and welcoming . They seem to have a couple more options available as oppose to the Potomac Avenue location. I never encountered large crowds or long lines . Staff have been friendly with any assistance needed and majority will greet you through out the store . I like the freshness the location delivers from the produce to the meats, seafood and self serve bars available . Groceries are not cheap but being here puts you in a comfortable environment and you feel you are getting the best quality . I do notice they don't carry certain brands at this location but that's with all stores -I guess it depends on the demand of the items. They have a hot bar -salad bar-sub bar and nuts and dried fruit . It is by weight so be careful and cautious you could run up a big tab as the prices are on the steep side . Prices here are fair and considerably similar to competitors. Some folks assume HT is expensive but you have to take advantage of the sale items and dates. I HIGHLY ADVISE you to sign up for the savings card and also enroll in "E-VIC" . The sales starts every Wednesday and with the E-VIC you get additional and special prices starting on Friday - Sunday . These deals are usually too good to miss. For example a normal sale could be 5.00 for an item but with E-VIC you can get it for 3.50. Head over to customer service to get help with signing up and you will receive an email every week for both sales . Consider a possibly more productive approach to address employees 'acting out' with consumers: None of us go through life unscathed. There are traumas from birth and possibly past lives that impact our behavior today. Rather than chastise bad behavior, supervisors might recognize it then offer support to the individual through their Employee Relations Department. EMDR via Shapiro (keywords to search) is one approach to clearing trauma to eliminate the source for those troubled by anger management issues. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is a DIY approach that can be addressed in the privacy of your own home. Perelandra offers the PIC Test Kit, another DIY solution using flowers essences, microbial balancers, etc Of course, there is usually not one source. For instance, heavy metal or chemical toxicity from dental amalgams or other dental restorations or other surgery such as knee and hip replacements, etc Moreover, in light of the fact that environmental toxicity is pervasive and delivered through all air, soil and water, the cumulative impact over time can create cognitive deficits that are the culprits behind depression, anger, suicidal or homicidal emotions, et. al As well, heavy metal farms Systemic Candidiasis among other terrains of harmful microbes that create mental distortions, hormone disruptions (i.e. pms, hot flashes, obesity, etc.) And, creating Lectins that turn on genetic markers by eating against blood type is another potential source for body/mind dysfunction. Very unprovoked ...One time in particular interaction this manager interrupted my phone convo with my friend to tell me she was going to call cops on me if I took a picture in the store. I was taking a pic to text what was available ... She was very nasty in the situation. I tried to diffuse the situation by explaining what I was doing and she became even more hostile in the situation ... She handled the situation with No class, No Tact and No Couth." My experience was similar. I tried to make a simple return of unused merchandise WITH a receipt; but, was treated like a criminal. My driver's license was logged. I also had to push back on the pressure I got to enroll in their VIC tracking program. I think a manager may have witnessed the exchange but did not intervene to turn down the volume on the employee's hubris. I do not like subscribing to those programs that take your personal data then later, after a hacking, all corporate can offer the consumer is 'a one years subscription to an ID Theft service and a 'we're sorry that your information has now been compromised'. After having been victimized by corporate hackers at Target and two other big box stores, I do not want to participate. But, when a consumer declines an offer, those are not grounds for lots of negative attitude. Then two times at the front door, on my way and on my way out, someone tried to shake me down. So many boundary violations in one visit do not encourage positive appraisals from the target market." read more

Good urban grocery store. Sometimes with urban markets you feel like your selection is a bit more limited, but I don't feel that's the case at all here. The prepared food section is quite large, which makes it a lunch spot in the Navy Yard area as well. As always, the bakery, butcher, and fishmonger area are bright and well lit - many older stores seem to make those places look like a dungeon area. And because you're in DC, good selection of beer and wine as well with competitive prices. read more

Not a five star experience as other reviewers say. I seldom come here simply because the experience is subpar compared to other grocery stores in the area. This is the kind of place you get in and get out fast. My recent experience here is as follows: after paying for my groceries I head to the parking validator, a gentleman is there, validating his ticket but, after almost a minute (this takes five secs...) I peeked to see what's going on, turns out he's zoned out looking at his ticket, as if he was waiting for it to speak back to him or, probably the Virgin Mary appeared to him in the ticket, it was the weirdest behavior, I said "excuse me" which in turn, seems to have triggered him somehow and what followed was as much trashtalk as he was able to give me while I was validating my ticket.... of course, the guard who usually stands near the registers was not on sight--which is not uncommon at this location and of course, not the first time I'm accosted by someone just because "excuse me"... some even are so bold, they'll follow you to the parking garage and continue accosting you. Did I say I'm 50 years old? Those of you giving five star reviews to this establishment w/o having ever being there, just to keep your status as "Star Reviewers", are cheats and cons, this establishment by no means offers a consistent five star experience like the other Harris Teeter's in the VA or MD area. I Love this Teeter's! It's super convenient working across the street and being able to get your shopping done after work instead of scrambling to the grocery store after a long commute. The staff is nice. Their breakfast buffet bar is pretty phenomenal. Beats the cafeteria food at least. I love the convenience of the starbucks inside as well. Never again will I have to preorder a cake and then drive to the office with it in my car during rush hour and pray I didn't slam on my brakes and having it fall over! But in all seriousness - the store was clean, and well stocked. There was a mading number of people here to pick up lunch today (and the 50% off the hot bar added to the crowd's desire for more hot food). Plenty of great lunch options which is helpful. I LOVE that there is a check out area by the food to-go as well as a number of regular registers. I am wondering if after the inital week(s) of craziness that goes with the new opening, if the registers in the back will continue to stay open. Or if that's just a "yeah we have that". I've been getting pretty desperate for a good grocery store in this city. There's nothing that is super convenient to me in Woodley Park- Manhatten Market is way too expensive, and it's more of a corner store than a grocery store; the Giant in Van Ness is not great; and the closest Whole Foods/ TJs are in DuPont, which isn't the most convenient during commuting hours. I'd never been in a Harris Teeter before, or even heard of it, but my coworker encouraged me to check it out. It's great! Super clean, fantastic selection of items, and very helpful staff. My highlights: -The wine selection. I still haven't gotten over the fact that I can purchase wine in grocery stores here! This one has a pretty decent selection of wine/beer. -0% Peach Fage yogurt. Nobody seems to carry this and I finally found it!!! -Great selection of organic, gluten free items The only drawback that I could see was the rather limited variety of poultry/fish. I'm used to Wegman's or Whole Foods, so I'm a little biased, but I was disappointing that there were only a few options from which to choose. Regardless, I signed up for their rewards card, and it looks like I've found my grocery store. read more

This Harris Teeter has a "Make Your Own Trail Mix" bar. I've never rolled my eyes harder. It was the epitome of hipster/yuppie influence. BUT moving throughout of the rest of the store I was pretty impressed! GREAT selection of craft beer and the produce looked great. DO NOT shop here under Covid 19. This store is the absolute worst with Covid 19 compliance. No mask: no service! Other neighborhood stores are diligent in complying: why not this HT? Was there yesterday and even the manager Charlie was walking about with no mask. At the sub counter/pizza area the two women had masks around their necks and were breathing on customers food as they prepared it and just gabbing away with no masks when there were no customers. Same at the deli counter. One masked man was diligent cleaning the glass but the ladies slicing the meat: no masks on with them just hanging around their necks. The guy packaging the rotisserie chicken: no mask at all while packaging and then putting the food packages on the floor then later tying a striped scarf around his face. Even one of the pharmacy techs was walking about with just his shirt/smock pulled up over his mouth and nose. Huh? Staff were walking around with no masks or not wearing the ones they had. Did they not get the Mayoral decree that masks are required? Charlie: that means you too! And all of your employees...and customers: why are some complying and others just doing whatever they want? Protect your employees who are wearing masks and then have to stock or ring up next to their coworkers or customers who are so rude they won't wear a mask? There was no effort at all to restrict entrance to those with no masks; aisle traffic; or social distancing in line. In fact, the staff weren't even social distancing walking around together unmasked talking and laughing. Sure: inconsistently they have someone wiping cart handles at entering: but not regularly. It's ridiculous. And so different than at the Potomac store where you couldn't even get in without a mask and police were actually there enforcing. I was very surprised to find that this store seems to be doing the bare minimum when it comes to COVID protections. The mayor is requiring stores to post notices that customers must wear masks- nope, not here. Workers aren't even wearing masks. What's more, stores are supposed to now have one-way only aisles, and this store has done nothing of the sort. At the registers the lines were 20 deep, and the first 3 spots had stickers on the floor about social distancing, while tons of people crammed together behind that in an aisle in line, with people walking past them in the opposite direction looking at food. I was really disappointed to see the lack of care to protect workers and customers from COVID-19 at this store. read more

I've been shopping here for a month and am very happy with the selection and prices. Some of the things I love: - Parking is free, underground and always easy. Makes grocery shopping a lot less stressful. - They have a lot of fresh, local produce at great prices. It is usually cheaper than Safeway produce I have found, but fairly similar. The freshness/local-ness if that's even a word is not as great as a farmers market or Whole Foods, but you get what you pay for. - The selection is impressive for a "please everyone" grocery store. I love creative recipes and tend to err on the health food side. So far they have everything. Sometimes it can be hard to find what you want, but 9 times out of 10 if you keep looking you will find it. - Prepared food seems good and plentiful. I haven't tried much yet, so will get back to you on that one. - Checking out is fairly easy with little wait. All in all a solid grocery store. We live in Capitol Hill and work at the Navy Yard, so this is our go-to place for groceries. read more

What impresses me the most about this Harris Teeter is their Deli/Catering department. We've ordered through them various times and the service level and food taste/freshness is consistently above average. The fact that their prices are unbeatable is a plus. Oh and they deliver! Absolutely amazing. Matthew Gibellimo, our POC that has helped us with our order has exceeded our expectations at every interaction. HIGHLY recommended. 4.5 stars! It's great to have another option for groceries in the SW area and especially one that is brand spanking new! Safeway near by gets the basics, but leaves mucho to be desired for anything other than that. I was impressed by many of the selections and the deals that Harris Teeter offered. Being new to the area, wasn't sure what to expect. Great variety in the store and even some nice, affordable "higher quality" merchandise. The flow was pretty adaptable, although wasn't as straight forward as some of the ones in familiar to back home. But like I said, very easy to navigate and pretty spacious (that being said, I was bumped into twice despite their being ample room in the aisle way. People need to look where they're going). Samples are also great. Plenty of options and overly abundant. That being said, the deduction comes from what many other reviews have stated: customer service was lacking. Not bad, but come on, crack a smile when you're speaking to a customer. I see you talking to your co-workers and laughing so I know you're not having a bad day. But when I'm being polite, and friendly reciprocate some what. You're in the business of customer service so have some delivery that would let me think you're a good worker. (The ones I noticed were at the front of the house. The ones in the back working samples were really pleasant. Making eye contact, smiling, asking if I needed help, and even saying hello. Goodwin! This one is hit or miss, but we go all the time because its close. I feel for the cashiers at the do-your-own-bagging, it almost always has errors, but has been getting better. Staff is kind, most stuff is fresh and nearly always has juice on sale. Lines are long, but moves fast. Has Redbox, so that helps. Discounts if you bring your own bags. read more

My review is for the breakfast served at this Harris Teeter. The grits were dried up & looks like it's been a day old, now be advised it was 0730 hrs, not long after they just opened. Everything else was tough to eat. The Starbucks they have inside the store is another disappointment, one of the female employee was very rude & even argued with me when I told her the coffee is weak & watered down. Her reply was as she stated angrily & rolling her eyes "have you ever drank this before? there's no water in it!" Answer is "Yes" I drink Starbucks coffee daily & yours tasted weak & again watered down. As the 1st rude employee turns her back & walks away from me, the 2nd nicer taller employee made me another one which turned out much better than the 1st one the shorter female made me. Be prepared to wait--always. Current self-checkout line is 20 people deep. This is routine and the result of consistent under-staffing at the registers, zero use of speedy checkout by the exit and the most ridiculous cash register setup known to man. I wonder if the managers have eyes. I've seen countless eye rolls and furious head shakes from fellow shoppers while waiting in this line. Presently, a dad and son--they look like tourists--stare at the checkout lines in disbelief. They're probably wondering, could this be true? At Harris Teeter, the lines run for miles! **** 4.5 stars **** Like my beloved Bojangles, Harris Teeter is another Charlotte export that I'm very happy to see expanding in the DC area and doing well. This particular location is the newest for the area, and likely one of the largest. As such, it definitely has a "flagship store" sort of feel to it, but there are some strange things I noticed while shopping here this weekend that made it just a little less than perfect (to be fair, a lot of these are really nitpicky things which most people won't even notice or care about). Let's get the good out of the way first. Harris Teeter does an exceptional job with their product variety. Not only can you find just about every brand you would want of "normal" items, but they seem to specialize in lots of higher end ingredients and international items. If you want to make some sort of regional specific cuisine then it's hard to beat the offerings at your average HT (without going to a specialty store out in the suburbs) and this one is no exception. HT's are also usually very clean and offer a large variety of fresh made items from their own deli / bakery, and in both areas this store does not disappoint. One of the biggest reasons I began to love this chain back home in NC though was the reputation they had for their meats and seafood, and although I did not buy any on my particular visit to this location I can say that the selection looked outstanding, particularly the seafood counter. Outside of a few specialty butcher items which I get from Harvey's at Union Market I'll be returning here for all my meat and seafood purchases, even though it's just slightly further from me than the NoMa HT (another great store, but the quality here looked slightly superior). The aisle spacing at this location seems significantly wider than most other stores too, although it could just be perception. It makes the store seem huge, and even the most negligent of shopping cart drivers would have a hard time banging into one another here. And now for the negatives, which I'll just list off since none of them are really worth dwelling over (in order of annoyance): - HT is normally great at offering lots of deals, especially BOGO, but this location seemed to have very few comparatively - many items don't ring up, and the self checkout clerk regularly left her post while machines kept saying "see employee"...they should have someone else ready to assist customers in this case since most times it's just a computer error causing delays - store seems way overstaffed, i kept getting caught behind people pushing mops / brooms to very little effect - the layout is a bit different than most other grocery stores with regard to what's next to what...still not sure if i like it or not, will have to reevaluate after multiple visits - very few of the small size shopping carts, and the only ones they did have were at the outside cart location rather than by the parking garage escalators - escalators are reversed from common practice (down should be the first one you come to, since your hands are full of groceries and you want to get out as quickly as possible) With the cold weather about to slam into the DC region in full force I'll almost certainly be joining the VIDA located in this same complex to get my workout in, which means this will easily become my grocery store of choice. I'm hoping they address the few complaints that seem like easy fixes, so that everyone else can get the same appreciation out of HT that I know they can provide. read more

This store has never been great for customer service, and the lines are always ridiculously long, without enough lanes open or cashiers working to accommodate the amount of customers they get. If you're there after work on a Monday, you can expect to wait in lines that make it half way down the aisles. But I continue to shop here, since the only options in the neighborhood are here or Whole Foods, and Whole Foods doesn't carry the same name brand products. However, I'm seriously considering doing all my shopping at Whole Foods in the future, because for the last several months there's been a growing contingent of men standing in front of the doors to the store, asking for money. It started out with one or two people and when I left this evening it was five. It's not just regular begging you might see in any city environment, they're extremely aggressive with customers, and they stand right in the middle of the doorway so you can't get out. Which is intimidating under normal circumstances, but especially during COVID, being unable to navigate yourself away from other people is dangerous and stressful. This is a problem that has gone on for months, and there's a security guard that stands right inside in the doors, but does nothing about it. As a single female, I feel very uncomfortable trying to navigate myself in and out of the store without being confronted by these men, so until Harris Teeter does something to keep their customers from being intimidated while they enter an exit the store, I won't be back. read more

Let's play a little game of "Never Have I Ever..." To start, let me just say, "Never Have I Ever" been to a Harris Teeter that was so CLEAN. So, it was their first hour of opening & perhaps, that shouldn't count. Hmm... but something tells me this store is going to stay this way. It's just too open and airy not t remain clean. Very well-lit and nicely designed. Best parts? The pharmacy is located near the entrance of the store - as is their hot food bar...And, I like that! I hate having to navigate aisles and head to the back of a store just to get to the pharmacy. I'm one of those dash in and out type gals. And, I'll tell you: this store was designed just for someone like me. It also helps that the aisles are nice and wide here - the sheer square footage of the place makes it feel more massive than any other grocery store around these parts. The cheese selection is expansive as is their meat and seafood offering. I was most surprised by the dairy aisle: oh, the variety! Wow. So many different varieties of yogurts, it made my head spin. The chip and soda aisle was also pretty remarkable. Restrooms were clean and nicely designed, as well; all modern. So, why the one star deduction? Well, like most people: I like a grocery store where the employees are nice and do their job, but here I could sense that everyone was simply just on their best behavior since it was the grand opening. I don't get a sense that the staff was actually nice or caring or even doing their job, for that matter. So, one star off for the employees. Some of the employees appeared to be lazy (I literally had to talk her into coming down an aisle with me to see about pricing on something - she didn't understand what I was explaining nor was she coming to see to understand further until I explicitly asked), and another one wouldn't let my friend sign up for a VIC card without his driver's license and wouldn't give any other options, one of the free cloth bags they gave me was already torn when they gave it to me (if the employee had just taken a moment to look, she would've known), and some of the employees giving out sample/tastings were openly & loudly shaming some customers about taking seconds - just for the heck of it; that was kind of awkward, but I suppose expected at an event where samples are being handed out freely & heavily. Greg grocery store! I came in to purchase pigeon peas for a dish and ended up buying an aloe Vera plant as well. Many grocery stores do not have the pieces of aloe to buy. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. I came in during lunch time so it was pretty crowded. They have a pretty good section of bar food, sandwiches, and pizzas. Their Starbucks crew on 3/29/14 at 6:30am was horrible. They're giving Starbucks and harris teeter a bad name.

Visited here while in DC for the week. They have a decent selection of food and miscellaneous items. They even allow you to build your own 6 pack of beer which is really nice. The downside was the customer service. For some odd reason my credit card (and the card of my companion also visiting from California) was not accepted. They never once apologized for the inconvenience or made any attempts to figure out what was wrong with their systems. (Both cards had worked perfectly fine through the city this far.). I recommend they work on the systems so that out of town guests do not run into the same issue I did. read more

My express online experience was wonderful! My personal shopper Ranika was phenomenal; her efforts to get me everything I wanted, or a close substitute, was outstanding. The cashier Tervon, who brought my groceries to the car, was so delightful and professional. What a wonderful customer service experience provided by both Ranika and Tervon.
