We have a Honda pilot that has been well kept by a family member since purchasing it new (this person kept every file on each repair down to oil changes and often had Pohanka Honda in Fredericksburg do thorough checks). We have had a year and got the 200,000 mile service on it. When we made an appointment and brought the car in, we had to tell them 3 times to do this service since they kept saying, "just an oil change and tire rotation." They called about 30 minutes later to say it was done - they had only done an oil change and tire rotation. We repeated ourselves saying we wanted the 200,000 mile service including checking the serpentine belt. Later, they said they did it, and we took the car home. The next day, all the alarms went off and the car shut off completely - an electrical short. Thankfully, it did not happen on a main road. The next day it did, and not even jumping the car did anything. Prior to the service, no warning lights were on, no leaking, no overheating, no need to jump it ever, nothing showed any indication of issues. They check the car again - after it needing to be towed - and said there was oil on the alternator. They said it was due to a slow leak, and not their fault. All of those previously mentioned warning symptoms did not occur on this vehicle for a slow leak. While it can occur, most of these leaks (VTEC spool valve leaks) occur in Honda Odysseys, Civics, and some Acuras - not typically Pilots. Also, they said there was too much dirt on the engine and alternator to detect a leak. In reality, there was a dusting of dirt on the engine and a dark, greasy substance (I'll let you take a guess at what that could be) covering the old alternator. When we went to pick up the car for a 2nd time, the service manager said they left the old alternator in the car. Instead, they had left some of their equipment in the car, but not the alternator. So, the manager retrieved it - hopefully it was ours. There is a chance that it could've been a slow leak, but they didn't notice if oil was missing when they changed it, and 4 months had passed from the last change which occurred at a local trustworthy autoshop. None of the typical signs of a slow leak were evident. Also, the only thing the manager repeated was, "it was a slow leak that we couldn't see it to know." He did not present counter evidence other than it has happened on other types of Honda vehicles and that they didn't know to look for it. There was no acknowledgement of how dangerous that issue was to us (who have a baby) or reassurance that it was safe to drive. We had to ask if it was test-driven, who did it, and what the test looked like. read more

They were excellent! Had an appointment at 1:00 pm on January 14th. I took it in early that morning to just drop it off not expecting them to work on it until 1:00. They took it in right away diagnosed the issue (part of the plastic at the bottom of my car was loose and dragging). They fixed it for me no charge by 9:00 am. So all fixed for free earlier than expected. You cannot beat that. They were so great and kind. read more

so I started yesterday working with a lady named Maria. I reached out and Travis reached back out to me, but he refuses to get back in touch with me. I tried to reach him numerous times and he still won't reach out. Maria has been extremely rude because she says we have credit issues and she doesn't like to deal with people who have credit issues. Yes our credit score sucks and we have to come up with money down, which is not an issue. I had family who was help us today, but she informed me that if we don't have the money down that she does not to me and deal with me until we do have the money down. Do not go to this dealership. They are cranky rude. Don't even deal with them. I started out dealing with the Hyundai dealership because I like Hyundai cars I'm just gonna tell you straight up. Don't go there. Do not we got approved through another dealership with zero money down. It took a little more time but we got a brand new car. This place sucks. They have the worst customer service. Dismissive and untruthful and quite possibly lazy. We took our 2020 Honda Pilot there twice because the car surges at low speeds. Both times, I asked the techs to check the transmission fluid. They "replaced" it the first time, but only did a drain & refill which only replaces about a quarter of the fluid, as opposed to a full flush & refill (which is what I asked for). The surging continued. Brought it back and told the techs about the problem and asked them to once again check the fluid because of the surging problem. Though the service department assured me that they had checked the fluids, the receipt indicates that they didn't because the tech "couldn't replicate the problem." Fed up, I took the Pilot to a different mechanic a couple weeks later. This second mechanic was not only able to replicate the problem with no issue, but also said that the transmission fluid was pitch black (it should be light red), and that it needed to be flushed & refilled. All in all, the reps and techs at the Honda service department were dismissive and dissembling. They flat out lied to my face when I asked if they checked the transmission fluid, and had they checked the fluid when I asked, they would've seen that it needed to be flushed and replaced, rather than merely drained and replaced. I'm just thankful that their untruthful negligence didn't cause any major mechanical problems with our car's transmission. Despicable. read more

Let me just start off by saying after previously purchasing 3 other vehicles from Harrisonburg Honda, I assumed the experience would be the same as before with my fourth purchase. I was expecting to be treated with honesty, fairness and some integrity but all I got was shortchanged, cheated and deceived at its finest. I'm still in shock and disbelief with how my sale was handled. After a lot of thought and careful consideration I decided to trade in my 2018 Lexus IS 300 F-Sport with only 50,748miles, for something a little more practical and better on gas. After talking with my salesman and test driving the new Honda Civics, I decided to go with a 2025 civic hatchback hybrid. I was willing to trade in the car that I absolutely loved more than any other car I'd had, long as I could get a good deal on trade in, considering I knew what my baby was worth. I was told on a Saturday that I'd most likely get at least $25000 possibly $26K or $27K. You just really never know. My car was in immaculate shape inside and out with low miles and very well taken care off. Monday comes and my BF gets the message that the Finance manager says the Lexus can't be put on the lot for more than $25500 due to a dirty, minor CarFax. The most they could offer me is $22K. That definitely was a hard NO for me. I knew what that car was worth and there was no way they were only going to put $25500 on it. After a lot of going back and forth and them telling me how much my car had depreciated, even more since Saturday, and how it wasn't worth anything more than the $25500, I regrettably believed them. Especially since I was a LOYAL returning customer. I let the Lexus go and ended up with around $7000 rollover, a higher payment, longer extended month loan and a $40000 civic hatchback..to say I knew I'd made a BIG mistake was an understatement. Two days later the Lexus is posted on their website for $29997. After seeing this I was absolutely sickened and disgusted. How could a place that I've bought several cars from screw me over that bad...that's the thanks I got for being a loyal customer. I should've known they would do this since the same thing was done to my BF the month before..he traded in 2 vehicles ( 2013 Hyundai Elantra 72K miles and 2019 330i BMW 25K miles) and was told the value wasn't what the internet stated. BMW was only worth $22K trade in, even though KBB stated $25K-$27K. He ended up taking their word for it since he too had previously purchased 3 cars from them and was a LOYAL customer. Soon as they posted them to the website it was a punch to the gut.. BMW was listed at $29K and the Hyundai was $8800 (gave him $4K and said that's all it was worth). They ended up making almost $12K off of him and $8K off me. That's really treating your returning customers with fairness and honesty. I went straight to the dealership to speak to the GM (Bryan Horne) which was an absolute joke. This guy talks so much about the customer and how they treat you right.. HA.. that is a lie. This guy looked me straight in the eye and lied to me. He said he hadn't even seen the Lexus yet, knowing he had because he'd already posted it on FB marketplace (I found out that evening it was done before I got there). He also proceeded to tell me the car had too many miles on it for the year, yet put in his selling AD that it had " only 50k miles". He seemed as though he could've cared less that they just shafted me big time. It didn't even bother him that they hit me with $7K rollover so they could make $8K off of me by lying, cheating and deceiving me into a sale. I couldn't believe the lack of customer care with this guy. He wasn't interested at all in anyway to try to make it right, yet told me he'd " look into it". Didn't take my name, number or anything down.. That tells me that conversation ended there. I've never dealt with the kind of deceit, dishonesty and disrespect that I did from Harrisonburg Honda. I will NEVER go back there again for anything. Even though I live in Harrisonburg, I will travel to Valley CMA in Staunton to keep up my warranty before I go back to that crooked ripoff place. I'd recommend anyone having a trade in not to go there. They will tell you anything to make more money off of you. It's hard to tell how many "loyal" customers they've done this to. To top off the horrible experience they didn't even pay off the whole amount on the Lexus. I had to call and leave a message that there was still a balance on the loan. Brought my car in for an AC leak, we had another mechanic look at it, we just could not find the leak. 1st day they put dye in instead of fixing so we lost a whole day, I was told to drive a week and come back, dropped off at 8am, called just before 4pm to see if ready as I had no calls and they close soon, was told $550 more just to fix an ac line, so now I will not have a car for a 3rd day and will be out almost a thousand dollars for one new part, an ac line. I could have bought all new parts, had any mechanic install in one day and paid less. I would never come here, nothing but excuses I cannot see how they stay in business. We will not be back. We have only driven Honda all my life. This is how you will be treated if you shop here. My whole family to include us has bought many cars here. read more

Took my Honda in for a recall of the fuel pump. On Friday when I approached the car I smelled gasoline. Upon entry into the car, the fumes were all consuming. Good thing I don't smoke otherwise there would have been an immediate explosion! I had to go to another appointment and could not leave my car to have the fumes remediated. So, with the windows all down and the heat on full blast (cold outside), I left. Got a headache and became sick to my stomach. I have left the windows down for 3 days and it still smells of gasoline. My garage smells and, the smell has even leached into our home. Today, Monday, I took my car in to complain with hopes of some type of remediation. The manager states he had three guys in the car and they could not smell the gasoline. I CAN!!! Nothing was done to assist me. Not satisfied. We have always had Hondas and service at H'burg Honda. Now my husband will not be having the recall done on his car because of my experience. Harrisonburg Honda Service, why would you return a car in this condition to a client? One of the worst, must unprofessional businesses I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. My wife wanted a 2012 Honda CRV, so I asked her to choose the options she wanted then call dealerships in the area to find the best deal. After learning that incentives on the CRV were slow in coming I decided that we could look into leasing the vehicle (my first lease). She had been dealing with a salesperson at Harrisonburg Honda, Matt, so she called him up. Based on our down payment he quoted a monthly lease payment of $239. Great, sign us up! Last week we went to pick up the car and signed lease agreement and other paperwork. We both found it interesting that the monthly payment was knocked back to $204 a month, but found no reason to complain. Additionally we were told that Honda will pick up the first lease payment. This is getting better and better, we thought, and were relieved we decided on Honda. A couple of days later they wanted us to come back and re-sign, there was an error in the paperwork (explained at the time that it was Honda finance that had made the mistake). Since the dealership is over an hour away and they insisted we come in right away, I insisted someone meet us. They did. It turns out that the original paperwork had a decimal place wrong, the real payment was going to be $289 a month. Moreover, Honda will not make the first payment for the CRV. Three big mistakes: 1) quoted monthly payment of $239. This was wrong. 2) that Honda will make the first payment. This was wrong. One might think that the salesperson and the finance person would know this. Apparently not. 3) an error that costs the consumer $85 a month more than the original lease agreement, $50 more than the quoted price before finalizing the deal. To make matters worse, they are extremely arrogant. Insisting that we drop everything to drive over and re-sign papers that they had made an error on (and, I might add, blaming it on Honda finance rather than their own mismanagement) because we were driving a car they hadn't received payment on. Additionally, I just called to speak with the general manager, Whomever took our call told me he wouldn't pass on the message unless I gave him a reason for my wanting to speak with him. If you're set on buying a Honda, I encourage you to go elsewhere. This has been one of the most outrageous, unprofessional business endeavors I have ever experienced. read more

While I got a good car at a fair price, really hate the last-minute piling on of a $499 processing fee...this after multiple assurances the price was inclusive of everything but tags, title, and taxes. I can't fathom why in this day and age, dealerships insist on acting like we're stuck in the 1950s, living down to the bad raps they so deserved. Bottom Line: Love these guys! I save $3000 by making the two hour trip to Harrisonburg from northern Virginia. Full disclosure: I love Hondas, I have had at least one Honda in my garage since 1997. Details: I gave my beloved 2004 Accord to my oldest kid because she needed it and I needed a new one! I started at the Edmonds website and sent out a request for email quotes all over Virginia. By the next day I had quotes from four dealerships in Virginia, and one in Pennsylvania. The dealership closest in northern Virginia was asking for just below MSRP which was about $3000 more than every other dealership. I guess the market in the D.C. supports them well enough that they don't feel the need to negotiate any lower. Good for them. I am not in the habit of giving money away so after considering all the other offers I decided to drive two hours to Harrisonburg! At the Harrisonburg dealership I met with Mr. Tyree Martin and his team who went out of their way to make sure I got the car I wanted at the best price in the state. Since I did it all over email there was no pressure, no "I have talk to my manager" or any of those other games some people play. After choosing a color to my liking, the car was prepped while I talked to Mike in finance. He explained my options regarding extended warranties, pre-paid maintenance plans etc. in an informative yet no-pressure manner. Since I saved so much on the car itself, I signed up for 48 months of pre-paid maintenance. I still spent less on the car and package than I would have for the car alone in northern Virginia. Bonus: the drive to Harrisonburg was beautiful, even in the dead of winter! Sometime later this year or early next I plan to upgrade my 08' Odyssey, and when I do, I will making the long drive straight to Harrisonburg! Friendly, but not trying to pretend they're your best buddy. Gave all the information, but never gave the hard sell. You never felt like you're an idiot or making a mistake if you declined this or that optional item or service. Same goes for business / money guy Matt. They were all careful, clear, and helpful. On August 5, 2021 had my car serviced at Harrisonburg Honda. Ive been using the service department at Harrisonburg Honda for several cars for years and never encountered an issue until today. The issue was regarding the unprofessionalism displayed by the Service Manager at the time we were making payment. When questioned about the cost of the service the Service Manager became agitated and combative to the point that he was yelling and throwing the paperwork at the Cashier. After settling the bill I left a message requesting the General Manager contact me to discuss. The next day after I had not received a call, I contacted them again at which point the GM's assistant told me he had been given my message (which was detailed) and it was at his discretion as to whether he returned the call. Three weeks later I have not received a phone call or response to my email sent via their website. Use caution when using the Service Department. Their pricing is questionable (invoice not matching what was discussed prior) and the behavior displayed by Management at the time of service and after indicates a change in how the Dealership is servicing the public. read more

Once I got there they offered me $4,000 less and when I told them I had already been offered much more than that they said "well, he's not an appraiser so we can't honor that". Congrats to Harrisonburg Honda for being awarded my coveted title of worst experience ever at a dealer... I had just moved to the area, and needed to get a recall performed on my Honda. I called the dealership(the only place that can do the recall within 60 miles) and tell them the problem with the car and that it was the recalled part(ignition switch) that was the problem and that i needed the recall performed. The service writer(i guess this is the name of the position) that dealt with me on the phone immediately questioned if I knew what I was talking about and had a slight attitude. I calmly informed him of the symptoms and what the symptoms of the Honda recall were and that they matched perfectly and that I wanted to get the recall performed. He accepted what I told him, but I could tell he didn't have much faith in what I had to say. I should have knew it was going to be a rough HONDA REQUIRED recall from this point. I brought the car in as scheduled, dropped it off after hours and wrote a short note saying "RECALL REPAIR, ignition switch" then quickly listed the symptoms and that these were the exact symptoms of the faulty recalled ignition switch. I get a call the following day saying it was not the ignition switch that was bad, but something else, that happened to cost $500 to fix. I told them no way and to just perform the recall on the ignition switch. They then inform me that since it wasn't the recall that was the issue(even though they hadn't performed it at this point), that I owed a "diagnostic fee" of $40. I was a little stunned, but I figured they must be right, they are the dealership, so I paid via credit over the phone. My mistake, I know. I'm a bit naive when it comes to incompetence.. I assume that when dealing with a "professional", they will know what they are talking about and will be honest in their professional diagnosis and assessment of a problem. After I realized what just happened and that I made a mistake, I called back 5 minutes later and said that regardless if they think the problem was the recalled part or not, they needed to do the recall... (after all, it is a SAFETY recall, and they are required to do it seeing as how they are considered to be a Honda dealership, somehow) and I specifically requested it. They didn't like me calling back, Misty Scott, the service person I spoke with, was VERY rude if not downright bitchy at times and eventually told me "your not getting your money back" and that it wasn't her problem. I was so angry. I called back to speak with a manager and of course I got voice mail. As I did the next few times I called. Surprise... I wound up writing a LONG email to the manager and owner of the dealership.. It has now been 2 months and I have yet to get a response from any of them... So... long story short, I was "robbed" of $40. That is okay though, it only cost me $40 to realize they were a dishonest, unfriendly establishment. I'm glad it wasn't after I purchased a new vehicle from their establishment that I realize this... that could have cost me significantly more than $40. Hopefully my incident was isolated, otherwise i have no idea how they have any business. read more

I've bought a lot of cars over the years and the process of negotiating prices has changed significantly in that time. Now, almost everyone can find a dealer's "bottom line price" so the more important thing for me is how the dealership interacts with me as a customer. I expect them to be transparent, to listen to what I am saying, and to meet my needs and expectations. I had checked a Honda dealer closer to my home, but did not feel like they did any of those things. It seemed that all they wanted to do was sell me something on their lot. Harrisonburg Honda was different. They immediately identified 2 vehicles that met my requirements - a 2018 and a 2019. The 2018 was a demo, so not for sale to a consumer, so they acquired the 2019 and had it in 2 days. Throughout, they were open and above board - even suggesting a payment option that saved me an extra $500. Another plus - they are a veteran-owned dealership. All in all, it was a very positive buying experience. I recommend them without reservation. read more

One of Employee was traveling and lost the engine to Honda Pilot in the area so he got an estimate and the estimate was $ 3800, I have to give HATS OFF to the sales man for selling the engine who says this is a test engine from Honda it self only has $ 12k miles on it and I got sucked in to getting it replaced. I am a very successful business man so usually i dont get sucked in to things like this so let me finisht the story gives me 90 day warranty and the car comes back to pittsburgh. After 30 days with 400 miles on it ( It took 240 miles from there to Pittsburgh) the engines blows up. So we called them and they are like we have nothing to do with it you have to talk to the salvage yard we bought the engine from. its like some big store tellinng you we bought the things from CHINA go and talk to them , As a courtesy we had the Local AAMCO shop take pics of the blown engine which was WELDED. sent it to them and they finally agreed an said yes the engine was welded. DUH !!!! It would have been nice if someone would have been upfront if they dont know what they are doing and AAMCO shop owner said the engine was not properly mounted and one engine mount was not connected they argued about it first and they agreed saying yes the engine mount was not lining up so we did not use one engine mount bolt??? Last week we filed a law suit seeking our money back I will post the results of it also. SO PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS HONDA DEALER SHIP ITS A RIP OFF. We stopped there shopping for a new or slightly used vehicle, options included Toyota, Honda or Subaru. At this Honda dealer we looked at the accord Crosstour and reg accord. A young employee without negotiation wings helped us around while a group of stone faced "vultures" looked down at us from a perch in the lobby, I'll bet sizing us up for purchasing power. The young man was very helpful, but was limited in scope of finalizing anything. That's when one of the "gangster" types shows up, all pompous, chest up, acting like he was doing us a favor by acknowledging us. Negotiacion? What is that? A concept that knuckle head didn't get. We walked out containing our bewilderment at such spectacle. Next door at Bob Wade, without even knowing, our CrossTour had been awaiting. And the icing was the people, who won us instantly. We handed 18k in cash and credit card and drove off with at top of the line model, the car we wanted at the price we were willing to accept. The highly arrogant top dog fellows at the Hburg Honda dealer need a lesson in public relations and how to sell effectively to everyone, not just the people they think deserve to be treated with respect. I had a horrible experience at Harrisonburg Honda. I bought a used car that the dealership put out on the lot without fixing a pre-existing problem that they knew about and i had it back over there for the same problem they knew about and told me they couldn't find anything. The car also had other issues i that i tried to get resolved. I couldn't even drive the car for a while so it sat in my driveway while i was making payments on it. The car would not go into gear. Finally, to try to solve the problem i just traded the car in at Harrisonburg Honda and got a new one. After I got the new car my sunroof started leaking and they just acted like it was no big deal. So fed up with Harrisonburg Honda, I went to Valley Honda in Staunton and they were wonderful. They fixed my sunroof and they helped me more in opne day than Harrisonburg Honda helped me in 4 months. Valley Honda cared enough to fix my car that I bought at Harrisonburg Honda. They really went out of their way to help me. If you decide to buy a car from Harrisonburg Honda you better hope you don't have any trouble with your car. They want to sell the car, but don't want to deal with you if you have a problem. I agree with the other comments. I try to avoid this dealership if possible. I now have a recall notice and I don't have any other option. Years ago my car would make this awful noise (it was still under warranty) but the noise was intermittent. Every time I brought it in, it wouldn't make the noise but I told them where it was coming from and even gave them a recording. It was so loud that the radio couldn't compete. All my friends heard it and I would just tell them, "the car sells its self"! Finally I was out of town and had a failing battery so I took it to a dealership in GA. They were wonderful! I told them about the noise and they identified it as a faulty fan. I drove 95K miles with that darned noise! When I asked if there was a reason why the Harrisonburg dealership could not diagnose the problem, they replied, "all they had to do was remove the cover, and it was blatantly obvious"! read more

I took my 96 Prelude to Harrisonburg Honda (HH) for service on a minor oil leak, AC problem, and inspection. I had diagnosed the AC problem to be a faulty condenser fan switch, which caused the fan not to run. At 9:30am, Doug at HH called. The tech said the condenser fan did run, and the AC problem was due to low refrigerant. I didn't believe this was the case, because I had observed the fan not running, and had the refrigerant level tested by a licensed HVAC tech, and the level was normal. (The car has never needed a refrigerant recharge since I've owned it.) I declined service on the AC, but still had the car inspected. At 11:35am, I arrived and paid for service. As I approached my car, I heard a hissing noise. I went back inside and asked the Service Manager (Larry) to accompany me. To diagnose the hiss, he called a service tech, who found that pressurized refrigerant was escaping from a hole in the condenser. Larry verbally quoted just over $500 to replace the condenser. I declined the service, told him I would think about it, and left. It occurred to me that there was no mention of the hissing leak or condenser replacement in my service ticket. I drove back to HH and confronted Larry about this. I said the evidence indicated that the hole in the condenser was created while the car was in the care of HH, and asked that the damaged condenser be replaced. He denied liability, and said that I would need to speak with the General Manager (GM), who was not in. I went back to my car and again heard the hissing and saw moisture on the frame below the condenser, which was not there when I first heard the hissing, indicating the hole had been punctured not long before I first heard the hissing. I met with the GM four days later (the soonest I was told he would be available), and was told that the issue would need to be addressed by the owner, who was out of town until another 5 days later. I waited until 4 days AFTER the owner was supposed to have returned, and I still had not heard anything, so I called, and was told that the owner had been too busy to review my issue, and that it would be several more days. I ended up buying a used condenser off eBay for 60 bucks and replacing it myself. I'll never use Harrisonburg Honda's service department again! read more
