    Fantastic Tasting Harrow's Chicken Pies!!!
    Sandy D.

Recently went to Harrow's after I had heard from a few people how good the Chicken Pies were. We went to the store in Tewksbury, MA, although they have several other locations as well. These pies are available cold, frozen or if you call ahead they will bake them for you to bring home hot. They are loaded with huge chunks of tender white meat chicken; with or without vegetables. I have had both ways, but I prefer them with no vegetables, as I don't care for potatoes in chicken pie. I take a little egg wash and brush it on top of the crust so it bakes nice and golden. They also sell freshly baked rolls, dessert pies, sides such as squash, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, etc. Hands down the best!!! Harrows chicken pies are delicious and well worth the price!!!

Chicken and veggie pie with mashed potatoes and gravy

Best chicken pie!!! I stopped by on a whim after I ran into Wal-Mart. I got a 4 person chicken and veggie cold pie, mashed potatoes and gravy. It took 55 min to heat up perfectly in the oven. It was so delicious and kid approved too!! I will definitely go out of my way to come back soon.

After stopping at Walmart for some art supplies, my son really wants to try the Harrow's chicken pot pie for the first time. The staff was very helpful in explaining how it works. You can buy a fresh or frozen one and cook it at home or call ahead to have a hot one baked for you. It so happened that they have an "apartment size" pie (serves 2 to 3) with vegetables baked and available. We got that and six fresh dinner rolls for $20. The pot pie is filled with large tender pieces of chicken, potatoes, and carrots in a creamy sauce under a nice, flaky crust. The sauce is not too rich and not overly salty. The dinner roll are very fresh, soft, and fluffy. Definitely got the fresh homemade taste and feel.

First off as a pie specialist we first bought an apple pie from here and found it to be below average. The worst part was the crust so we were hesitant to go for a chicken pie to follow. At one point our family had suffered a loss and a friend picked up a chicken pie to help us not worry about cooking dinner during that time so our first test of a Harrow's chicken pie began. Honestly it was much better than the apple pie we purchased but still lacked on overall flavor and consistency. I would prefer a chicken pie from Cote's market down town Lowell or even KFC first. Harrows is just so so in my book but no worries I'll give them a try again and see if they improve along the way. I may pick one up in the morning/afternoon for dinner tomorrow night to give them another shot. After all everyone deserves the chance to show what they have got. Pie for life but only if it's good!!

But it almost seems unnecessary, because so little has changed. The decor is still the same, the staff are still the same. The menu has changed a bit - a few of my favorite appetizers are gone, and of course prices have gone up. This time, our group all started with unsweetened Thai iced tea, which I don't remember being an option previously. It's just the tea without the sweetened condensed milk, and it delivers the same flavor you'd expect otherwise. The Thai rolls were just as crisp and satisfying as ever. Our dinners were all had different varieties of chicken with combinations of vegetables, noodles, or rice. My Sesame Chicken came with broccoli florets which were a tad overcooked, and the batter on the chicken was too crunchy. But was it tasty? Yes! For those take-out dinners in-between then and now, I'm still a huge fan of their appetizers and especially their Tom Yum soup. Apart from possibly ordering things a bit too spicy, I still feel it's tough to go wrong with dinner here.

The dishes are made to share, so the portions are on the bigger side, including their drinks, which are 32 oz and come in the large soup containers. They have a new drink menu coming out tomorrow with so many different options. They have mocktails, mojitos, and lemonades. I will definitely need to try them all. The owner was so sweet and let us try their new Jungle Juice drink, which has basically every fruit in it. We got the Sesame bowl, and this thing was packed. My friend is GF and raved about their fried rice so that was substituted in. We also got the Cambodia Curry with graduate-level spice. The owner knew I loved spice when I said that and asked if I needed more pepper and handed me a small bowl of it. The dishes for dinner were around $18, with lunch dishes around $14, but this is based on portion size, and it was a good portion. Will be eating the rest for lunch. Definitely need to check it out. It was beautifully decorated inside with flowers and wooden frames.

I had to travel up to Massachusetts on Monday and I was quite disappointed with the lack of a New England accent on anyone. We used to be a proper country. In any event, on Monday, I went to Mexica Burrito Grill. I met a man, on the line in front of me who insisted this place was good. I was skeptical because, I don't know this guy and why was he being so friendly? I ignored the warning signs and assumed he may be correct as he too was a husky gentleman. I ordered a burrito bowl with carnitas. I told them to include the rice and beans, because a man needs fuel that sticks to the ribs, along with double carnitas, cheese, and nothing else that sounded like it belonged in a rabbit's lunch. No vegetables, no salsa, no cilantro trying to ruin a perfectly good meal. They delivered. The carnitas were delish, properly seared, and tasted like actual pork that had been treated with respect (salt, heat, and time). The rice and beans did their job, simple, hearty, and not pretending to be anything fancy. No lectures about "fresh ingredients" or where the avocado came from. No one cares, Chad. Just a solid bowl of meat and starch, which is how God intended bowls to be used. I ate it back at the hotel with a black coffee and a pocketknife for portion control. Felt like I could split logs afterward. This is acceptable food. I may return. Highly recommended for men who understand that beef or pork are staples, with enough rice and beans to keep the machine running.

The tacos were sitting in a pool of it after walking from the counter to a table and were leaking a lot while eating. One taco had a ton of salsa and the other two had next to none. Also pretty light on cheese. The roja had good flavor but wasn't very spicy. Ended up adding Valentina hot sauce that they had available. The meal was a bit cheaper then other places in the area. Restaurant was very clean.

It can feel a little cramped when it's crowded but the ambiance is nice with the soft lighting and vibrant decor. Service from the bartenders was great. Despite tacos and burritos being the only sections for main courses, some of the individual items can be meals on their own. I had the Surf and Turf quesadilla which was very filling. The tortilla has nice and crispy and there was a good balance of the different fillings (shrimp, steak, cheese, guacamole, and pico de gallo). The chipotle sour cream (I assume that's what it was, the menu didn't say) was a nice addition. The cocktails are as tasty as they are cheekily named. My favorite among the ones I've tried is Smoked Mangos, which comes with a slice or torched mango. The prices for both food and drink are a little steep and the food menu is rather limited, which is the reason I give this place stars instead of 5. If you come in expecting free chips and salsa and huge portions like your typical (American) Mexican restaurant, you'll be disappointed. If you want somewhere fun to have some drinks and some smaller plates, you'll be satisfied.
