I stopped by the Harrows Chicken Pies in Methuen very recently. This small takeout shop is located in the Village Mall plaza next door to China Buffet. They offer fresh and frozen take and bake chicken pies (with or without vegetables) in 4 sizes including 1 serving (individual/$6.50), 2-3 servings (apartment/$13.75-$15), 4 servings (family/$18.25-$19.25), and 6 servings (jumbo/$21.75-$22.75). Side dishes are also offered including mashed potatoes, chicken gravy, squash, cranberry sauce, chicken soup, chicken salad, dinner rolls, and fruit pies. The pies are made at their Reading location and delivered here. I got an Individual Chicken Pie with Veg ($6.50) and a Pint of Mashed Potatoes ($4.50) to bring back home. The total was $11 (no tax/purchased food is like groceries). There were baking instructions on the individual pie: Refrigerated- Bake for 30-35 minutes at 375 degrees or Frozen- Bake for 60 minutes at 350 degrees. When I got home, the top very soft dough crust shifted exposing the cream gravy pie filling. I baked the chilled chicken pie (in a small round aluminum foil pie tin) for 35 minutes in the oven and microwaved the mashed potatoes. The chicken pie was filled with thick cream gravy, tender pulled white meat chicken, potato cubes, and carrots under a doughy pie crust, no side or bottom crust. The mashed potatoes were soft and smooth. Overall, the chicken pie and mashed potatoes were okay, a filling small dinner, but lacking flavor. My personal local favorite place for tasty chicken pies are served at The Chicken Connection in Haverhill and Plaistow, NH.

When you have a baby and are trying to get dinner home and cooked before bed time you really just want things to go smoothly. It was just about 6:30, I just left work and picked up my baby girl from the sitter. I called harrows pies in Methuen mass SIX times before they picked up. The first six times there wasn't any type of message or machine, it just rang until it sounded like the old AOL dial up sign in. That loud high pitch screech over the cars blue tooth was quite awful, but so was listening to my babe crying in the back. I needed to place this order for pick up so we didn't starve so I called back one last time. They picked up!! Yes! I asked to place an order to pick up, I knew they closed at 7:30 so they would have enough time to bake a pie so I asked for a frozen pie to pick up. They told me that they don't place phone orders after 6:15 (it was almost 6:30)and I'd have to come in to order the pie. I explained I just wanted a frozen one, how I had a baby and it would be helpful to have it ready so I could come in and pay quickly so she's not throwing a fit. The woman on the phone sighed and I'm a rude tone said "ugh, what do you want". I placed my super simple order, see in pics, showed up ten minutes later, paid for my pie and left. Were they not picking up the phone because they didn't want to take my order? What if I thought they closed early for some reason, maybe I wouldn't have gone there. Either way the employees there need some serious training on how not to lose customers and money. After the awful customer service I received, I went home and had dinner for the family. Harrows pies are great to me because I grew up with them. They've never changed, simple veggies, nice gravy and a flaky crust. The cranberry sauce is a family favorite and the rolls are soft and chewy. They are getting 2 stars because the food was good but customer service is everything. They represent your brand and they are the literal fave of your company. My mother lives 2 minutes away from this location and we will NEVER go there again. I'd rather drive to Tewksbury or Reading when my family wants Harrows.

Chicken pot pie, followed the cooking instructions perfectly.

There isn't much flavor to the pie. The white meat what a little tough and the gravy seemed gelatinous.

The staff is friendly and very helpful and will guide you along the way. A few months ago, I had obtained a $50 gift certificate from a local radio station to Dream Dinners at the Sebbins Brook Marketplace in Bedford. Last month, I decided to give Dream Dinners a try and booked my meals and night session online. By all means, the food here is not cheap with a 36 serving minimum required and up to 12 people per session, no young children allowed during the sessions. However, there is a competing meal assembly place that allows young children and all I can say is it's located in Manchester in a strip plaza with a very popular Mexican restaurant and a Japanese restaurant with a hilarious hostess. Be sure to bring a cooler or laundry basket to carry your meals away. I arrived here on a very chilly night and the staff let me in (doors are locked at night). I was given my assigned meal label stickers and given instructions by the staff. I had to put on an apron and wash my hands (very often between food stations). Each food station has recipe cards (3 or 6 servings) with the raw ingredients, spices & measuring cups/spoons/scoops all in place. Much of the food is prepared in Ziploc bags and/or aluminum pans. Most of the ingredients used are restaurant quality, but the meats including the chicken breasts, beef, and steaks are frozen, just average cuts of meats. When I was done putting together each dish, I put each labeled meal in the cooler, on the racks with my name. If a food station for one of my items was occupied, I had to move onto an available station for another item. There were also some stuffed shells to snack on during my short breaks. I had a great time putting together my awesome meals with very little effort and thought. It felt like I was Rachael Ray in Home Ec class. I was the only guy here and all of the others here were women, mostly wives (mid 20s to mid 40s). I finished assembling my 39 servings, in just under 2 hours. The staff gave me a cheat sheet with preparation methods/times and serving suggestions for my meals and helped me pack up my freezer-ready meals. The actual preparation of the meals at home was very simple and I just followed the instructions on the labels, whether it's prepared in the oven or by stovetop. The meals I had were very tasty including the Oven Baked Almond Chicken, Beef Pasta Bolognese, Creamy Tortellini with Bacon, Pork Paprika, Caribbean Jerk Chicken, White Chicken Lasagna, Arroz Con Pollo and New Orleans Jambalaya. The only meal that disappointed was the Grilled Steaks with Caramelized Onions since the grade of meat was not premium and I could buy a nice cut of steak at the market at a lower price. Dream Dinners did save me a lot of time, no hassle and no cleaning up the kitchen. I spent a total of $177 on 39 servings, less than $5 per serving.

I'm lucky that wherever I go for work, there is one nearby where I can stock up on meals. I don't like to go out all the time to restaurants and frankly I stink at creating my own meals so this is the perfect way to be able to have good fresh meals that cost only a tiny bit more than the grocery store and are healthy. I literally have been going to Dream Dinners for over 5 years and this location in Framingham was great. Very friendly employees, easy parking, and overall a great experience. I would recommend this to anyone who is either not that good at cooking or has a big family that they just don't want to have to make meals for all the time.

It was also nice to see a small business adapt so well during the pandemic and take customer safety and convenience so seriously..offering the service of assembling for us when we weren't comfortable being in-store or delivery were nice touches, and they really worked hard to still offer a variety of tasty meals amid country-wide supply-chain shortages. Some of my favorites have been the mini meatloaves, chicken pot pie puffs, and tacos. When you're tired at the end of the workday and have a family to feed, it's a relief to have delicious meals like these ready to be cooked in a short amount of time.

Ah, well, it's a place where a small number of food related businesses share a certified kitchen space in a way that is both noninvasive to the separate businesses and supports and monetizes the space. Yup. Pretty awesome. A shared use food making space like Kitchen inc is such a recent idea that it is all still under construction, both in the physical space, and in the system structure. There is a sore need for kitchens that can be used by small food businesses, like caterers, or jam makers, or bakers. Sadly, there are few kitchens, and Kitchen Inc is the first and only of its kind in the area. My hope is that suddenly lots of people with money are going to realize that it is not impossible to build a shared use space and someone will build one for gluten free bakers, and one for raw food, and one for vegans and one for butchers and so on. Right now there is space at Kitchen inc only for occasional users. If you are looking for a place to cook and throw a party, or conduct a class, definitely get in touch through the website. Hooray for shared use kitchens!! Hip hip hoorah!

We got 6 meals, 3 servings each. Meal 1: crispy French onion chicken. For someone who does not like French onion or onions it was very tasty. It was not overbearing. Simple to make but the directions were a bit confusing. Meal 2: sage crusted pork chops. Prep time was a breeze. Meal was ok. Nothing to write home about. Meal 3: baked potato chicken. Prep was easy but the pan size was too small. The chicken was tasty but potatoes were on the bland side. Meal 4: chicken yakitori over jasmine rice. Delicious. I did not prepare it so no idea how long it took. Not a big fan of the look and Asian food but and would have never ordered it out but nice meal. Extremely tasty. Meal 5: toasted pecan chicken with mashed potatoes. Potatoes were instant and not good. The directions were confusing. I am not a fan on nuts on meat and I really was not here either. It was ok but nothing great. I placed most of them on hubby's chicken. He on the other hand could not get enough of it. He loved the meal. Meal 6: chateau chicken with almond butter sauce. Exact same review as meal number 5. Meal 7: monte cristo chicken. Wonderful. Very tasty. Easy to prepare. Overall the price was about $4.50 per serving. Servings come in either 3 or 6. I would have like a better variety of food but only had a limited selection that the entire family would like.
