Yeah so we went in, asked for a table for 3, they said "around the end of the bar". Ok...what does that mean...so we see an empty table near the bar with no table cloth (almost all of the tables were empty...) so we sit down there and get ready to order 3 €26 cocktails, because, history. A waiter then stomps up and says the tables are for diners only (again, restaurant e m p t y) and pulls the table away from us so we can get out. He then points to a bench by the door and says we can sit there. Umm no. As far as all the history surrounding this place- there's history all over Venice. I mean, I love Hemingway, but he used to hang out all over Europe. They were extremely rude and you could tell they are not friendly towards foreigners, funny thing is that Italy needs tourists to survive... Home of the original Bellini. I was very curious about drinking an original and freshly made Bellini. The start of our experience at this famous bar began downhill and kept getting worst. My family of 8 were squeezed into a small corner in their upstairs lounge. We noticed that the tables across from us were set beautifully with white linen. Our tables were bare and didn't have linen. We mainly came to try their famous Bellinis but decided to explore their menu even-though we weren't hungry. We ordered 5 Bellinis, 4 bottles of water, carpaccio, minestrone soup, and a slice of meringue cake. The Bellinis were just ok. I was a bit disappointed with the blend taste. It was not worth $16 euros per glass. Our total bill came out to $480 euros. It was probably one of the biggest waste of money I have spent on dining. The service was horrible. We felt that we were second class. We had to keep waving down a waiter. We were tucked in a hot corner of their restaurant without proper table settings. I don't know why the food is outrageously over-priced ($25 Euros for a bowl of minestrone). We couldn't help but to think that we were treated poorly because we didn't fit the look of their high-end clientele. I only gave them one star because the cake and carpaccio was good. But "good" doesn't merit the outrageous prices. For a great experience, fair value, and excellent service go sit at one of the outdoor cafes in Piazza San Marco. You'll pay $6 euros to hear the band play, however it'll be worth it. read more

This is the bar where belinis were first created. For those uniformed, a belini is a mix of sparkling wine and peach schnapps. I have never had one before, but I have to say they were delicious. You could tell they serve a lot of these because they had a pre-made mix already in a plastic container which was just added to the champagne. Got here around 10:30pm after a great dinner and came to find that they close at 11pm, even on a busy Friday night. That was a bit disappointing. When we went, I didn't see any other tourists but a lot of model types in there chatting away in Italian. Being an average weight male in there, I felt somewhat out of place and guilty about getting a second drink. Luckily, that wasn't an issue because they close so freaking early! read more

Good lord this place is busy! The place is small but beautiful, and everybody is there for the Bellini, unless you're also here for the food. We visited twice, the first time we weren't able to get past the door and the second time, it was slightly less crowded. We managed to order at the bar and were handed our Bellinis along with a couple of little canapes to go with it. The place was so crowded though that we needed to finish quickly and head out. The service staff were great and tried their best under trying circumstances. It's a place you need to visit at least once in Venice, but the cost of the drink, how crowded it was... it's a place you want to only visit once. This place creates the famous Bellini cocktail and made it famous. Giuseppe Cipriani named his white peach cocktail the "Bellini" after Giovanni Bellini, the fifteenth century Venetian painter. If this drink were to be a woman, it would be high maintenance all the way. She knows she's hot shit, and she only deserves the best. Even though the cocktail is made with Prosecco instead of Champagne, it is still recognized as the best Champagne cocktail in the world. All of the ingredients (including the glasses, the Prosecco and the white peach puree) should be as cold as possible. The drink should be one part white peach puree to three parts Prosecco. You must use fresh frozen white peach puree when you can, but when you create your own puree, never use a food processor. It will aerate the fruit. Big no no. And you must never ever use yellow peaches to make a Bellini. Have you ever tasted a Bellini that tasted just plain wrong? The barman probably effed up and threw in peach schnapps or some kind of crap like that. Only in Venice can you get the real deal. Too bad this place charges an arm and a leg for its art. read more

Yes, Harry's Bar is completely touristy. Sure, it's completely overpriced. Did I have a hell of good time here? You bet I did. I checked Harry's Bar off of the list Venice list while traveling with three other ladies. It's the restaurant that invented the bellini (one of my favorite drinks). Harry's is also world-famous for its history of famous regulars who've haunted the joint: Ernest Hemingway, Orsen Welles, Truman Capote, and the like. You know...real no-names. Well after we all paid the ridiculous price for our bellinis (like 16 euros or something), we decided to get eating. I ordered a spring risotto that was perfectly cooked. It was creamy and the vegetables were nice, bright, and of excellent quality. And as I kept eating, the kept coming by if I wanted more. I knew I needed to reserve some space for dinner. Everyone at the table loved what they ordered. After our dinner plates were cleared, they came to our table with an impressively massive chocolate cake to tempt us. Everyone at the table but me ordered the cake. Not being a fan of cake, I ordered the only other dessert choice: gelato, of the chocolate variety. My choice seemed so sad and minuscule compared to the cake. But see, here's where I made the right decision: the gelato was the best I've ever had. I let everyone at the table try it and they all agreed that they screwed up. Harry's chocolate gelato blew us all away. My coworkers and I visited this restaurant while staying a week in Venice. We reserved a large table upstairs in a semiprivate room. The service was good, and the food was excellent. However it was extremely expensive. For the price level one would expect a more up-scale experience. That is the only reason for my 4 star rating instead of 5. This restaurant has some interesting history, which you can read about on the web. But with the prices it's a bit of a tourist trap, in my view. One highlight was the ice cream. What can I say about this place besides the fact that it has style! Harry's has a history of hosting drinks to the upper class. You definitely get that vibe when you enter. Everyone is dressed to impress and you can tell the people in there have some serious coin. Aside from the class of people in there the bar serves up some amazing drinks. You can't go in without trying one of there famous bellini's! I bet you can drink just one! The bartenders are nice and will serve you as long as you're patient. They're busy nonstop so just be nice and they'll make you a drink in a timely manner. Also, good luck grabbing a seat at the small bar. It was great to come here and experience the Bellini's. The bar tender was great and the kitchen offered up an order of crab cakes to pair along on the house. I hear their food is pretty good but in looking at a bill for 2 espressi + 1 Grappa (20.5 Euro) which elsewhere in Venezia would have been more like 10 Euro at the most their food is *way* out of my price range. The smell of the food coming from the restaurant was simply mouth-watering and -what were we thinking?! - we asked for a table for two. A bottle of wine and two risottos later, we paid our £200 bill and shuffled back to our hotel. As huge fans of Hemingway we had to stop in during our time in Venice, and knew what we were getting into in terms of pricing. Spending a few days in Venice, we wandered into Harry's Bar for a quick trip into history. The Bellinis were nice and the martinis even nicer. The waiters were polite. The olives served with the drinks were delicious. Fat, green deliciousness. We asked where they were from and were told that arrived from somewhere in the Italian countryside in enormous tins. We should have asked to buy some. The drinks were expensive relative to other places in the area, but of course you are paying for history. It was delightfully fun to sit there and sip, munch and chat about Cipriano and the many luminaries the bar had hosted over the years.
