We were leaving on a long trip and a light, smaller tripod we had broke the week before our flight departing - isn't that always the case? We didn't have time to order online and get it before departure so I started to call around. Had a bad experience here before, but called and they were nice (other people working), had a few options, good prices as well. So we drove over, parked in front (they have a few spots for customers) and they had the tripods put aside for us to check. They were nice, patient, nice to talk to. We tried them and settled on one. It was used, but in good condition. So we bought it. It's good we gave them another shot since they are one of the last standing camera stores in the Valley! read more

I brought my camera in for a diagnosis after some impact damage. I was very clear: I wanted to know what was wrong--not to have anything repaired yet. Two weeks later, I get a call that my camera is "ready for pickup." When I arrive, I'm told they replaced the motherboard without my consent, and now I owe $150 instead of the $20 diagnostic fee I was expecting. When I questioned this, the man admitted the technician "made a mistake" and offered to remove the part--but why would I have you take out something you already installed, especially when I never asked for it in the first place? I paid the fee, only to discover the camera was still malfunctioning--it overheats every 20 minutes, which is the same issue I originally brought it in for. Clearly, it was never properly diagnosed or fixed. When I finally had time to bring it back (about 3 months later), I explained the issue calmly. Instead of offering help or a second look, he immediately dismissed me, said there was a 30-day warranty (which he couldn't show me), and refused to look at the camera again. He then proceeded to call me a "bitch" under his breath and followed it up with "damn woman"--completely out of line and unprofessional. He offered no solution, no accountability, and no respect. In fact, when I pressed him further, he told me to "sue him" and walked away. I've never had such a disgusting experience with a business. I was disrespected, overcharged, ignored, and insulted. This place is a joke. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. read more

When my late husband passed away I was left with his collections of collections, including bins full of cameras and camera equipment (some vintage and some just obsolete). With no knowledge of what was worth what, these bins followed me around for 8 years - move after move, each time thinking that I would eventually have the time to look each piece up to get a sense of it's value and list it to sell. I even had friends offer to do the research for me - the bins would go stay with them for over a year and still, nothing would ever be sorted. I'm about to move again, so I took the entire collection to Drewie. He went through the lot and identified which ones had value and which ones probably wouldn't sell for much. He spent the weekend cataloging and researching the more valuable ones and made me a very fair offer for the lot. He even found out after he'd sent me the payment that one of them was worth more than he'd thought and is subsequently sending me another payment! Knowing that what was left wasn't going to sell for very much, I was able to place an ad on a local community group and donate the rest without worrying that I'd just unwittingly given away some priceless artifact. As a hobbyist, it was nice to find a place that wasn't trying to up sell me. The environment is warm and welcoming. I never once felt like I was a nuance with all my questions. I saw multiple customers come in and observed the same warmth and friendliness. I've had my camera for 8 years, but I am only now learning how to actually use it. He helped me find filters and a step down ring (so I can use the filters on my other lens). He answered all my questions and never made me feel pressured to purchase. Which means a lot to me. While this is store is not local to me, I plan on making it my preferred camera store. Can't wait to come back. read more

My 20+ year old Nikon died. Tough call. Fix it, replace it with a newer model, buy a used one off EBay, or just be satisfied with taking snapshots with my cellphone. Brought my camera into Harry's and the gentleman behind the counter gave the camera a once over to make sure it was really in need of a repair (as opposed to something dumb like a dead battery). $20 for a diagnosis that is applicable to the repair if you go forward with it. A few days later, they called me with the price of repair. Plus they checked out EBay to see how much the same camera would cost if I wanted to skip the repair and buy the same camera used. I went with the repair. They got it back to me in a very timely fashion. I would use them again if the camera again stops working. read more

Harry's Camera is not close to me, but I'm glad I went there. Dru'e, the owner, was really nice to stay open a few extra minutes when I brought my camera to him. I needed to find out whether or not to repair the camera. A lot of places would not even look at it. I found out it was going to be too expensive (motherboard replacement) so I paid the $20 fee for them to check it out (pretty reasonable) and picked it up. I asked Dru'e if he had a lens cap leash for a different camera I had. He just handed one to me and said I could have it. Wow! Not that I would ever expect that, but how nice! THESE GUYS LOST ALL MY PHOTOS! Brought in a roll of 35mm film photos to be developed, and when I returned to pick them up the following week (I did not receive any phone call notifications or updates) the employees had no clue of their whereabouts. It was clearly disorganized and negligibly managed. The guy at Harry's refused to accept any responsibility and instead blamed the photo lab company they work with. When I asked to deal with this photo lab directly, he also said no. So essentially there was nothing that I could do. And on top of that, he asked me to describe the contents of what was photographed. When I explained that the photographs included many different settings and subjects, because they were taken over a period of several months, he said there was little that could be done (at this point he once again made an effort to save himself, trying to place the blame--of the mishandling of the photos--on me for not being able to provide him this information). That's it? That's the professional standard of tracking and organizing they practice? What about the tracking number that was assigned to my photos when I initially dropped them off? Evidently, even THAT succumbed to the shop's haphazard managing. I'd also note that, in dealing with this issue day after day, I was always told that they'd look into it and call me back immediately with updates. They never did. Just another example of responsibility avoided on their end. *Seems like Harry gets a kick out of arguing with his dissatisfied customers in the reviews section ("Sorry ma'am if you felt like you had a bad experience." -- one of his responses LOL). This guy just reeks negligence and carelessness. Can't wait to see how he tries to repudiate mine! More disavowal I imagine.. * read more

We arrived in LA the night before my son's prom and I realized that I had left my camera battery charger at home. I had planned to photograph my son and his girlfriend, so I was panicking that I had dead camera batteries. This shop was closing at 6, but the owner graciously agreed to stay open a few minutes later so we could make it over to buy a battery charger. Dru'e saved the day, and my son's prom pictures! I was looking for self-tape equipment (lighting,backdrops) and after heading to Best Buy- I came here. I'm glad I did! I'd rather support a place like this over Best Buy anyway. It's a small place, but has what you need. If not, I'm sure the owner (I think that's who I actually spoke to) will order it. My son dropped the new Canon SX629 HS. His mother took it to another shop & they quoted $130 for lens repair. I took it to Harry's as it was close by. When I handed the camera to Harry (I'm assuming it was Harry as we never exchanged names) & he turned it on, it made a horrible sound. Great service, no surprises, and a very sweet deal. I found some old 8mm tapes in a cabinet and wanted to see what I had on them before throwing them out. Since 8mm is pretty much Smithsonian, I couldnt find a place in town that could give me a reasonable rate or even accommodate. I was willing to pay to sit down with someone that had 8mm technology so I can rewind/fast forward to view the content on a few tapes. I phone Harry's and was informed they RENT these cameras for $25 for 24 hours! That was the sweetest deal as I could go at my pace in private. I liked it alot. I returned the camera the next day and the transaction went smooth. This is a hidden gem in town with a great rate and deal. I was beyond impressed. read more

Had old 8mm tapes that I wanted to convert and even though they were recorded in Europe in the '90s they were able to do the job and get the files ready the next day. 10/10 will come back when I get more of these to convert. Because someone needed to... I was sucked in by the five star reviews, and now more than three weeks later, a lot of misinformation, shuffling and lost opportunities (planning around their one week estimate) - in the end I had to go somewhere else to get the repairs completed - on a standard Sony HDR unit. And then some - his outsourced technicians further damaged my camcorder. Dru-ee started out nice enough, but with *NO ON-SITE REPAIR* my requests for a rush were not only ignored, and the intention behind it forgotten, but after so little contact and update information and mistakes - 8 days in on a one week repair, he started getting belligerent and short when I'd call to get updates. And - "I'm sure they're working on it as we speak" isn't an update. He knew I needed my camera to work which made it all the more frustrating. Then, it turned out that his first tech, not only couldn't complete the repairs, but damaged the recording head and broke the upper case screw grommets. And what they did eventually do, a simple change out of the cassette mechanism (which is what I was there for in the first place), was done wrong and caused the additional damage, and had to be replaced. Then, his second outsourcing attempt, with eight more days, and knowing what the problem was, and with Dru-ee "paying extra for a RUSH," couldn't do what a place in Glendale with their own in-house tech did in three days, even ordering parts, but for a lot less money. If Dru-ee had been a little more honest and informative and involved, instead of putting me off, trying to make a quick and easy buck as a middleman, and hadn't wasted three critical weeks during my busy season, only to give me my camera back broken, worse, I might have gone easier... 11MAR13: In response to Dru-ee's version: 1) Yes, but the "one week estimate" being too long, they offered a rush. 2) And yes, his "free" loaner *an inducement for me to leave my camera there for the week* - cost plenty - an old model, all three batteries were expired and failed to hold a proper charge. 3) It might have seemed like I called a lot, yet if he'd simply followed up on his estimates and not dropped the ball, there wouldn't have been a need for me to call at all. I wasn't just impatient, I was feeling lied to. And, temporarily relocated far away, which he knew, the drive up had to be scheduled ahead of time. 4) Yes, Asia, oddly enough Sony has at least three service centers in SE Asia. The longest I had to wait for repairs, there, was 4 days. Not sure about the ages of their employees, but I'd guess their corporate offices aren't set up for sweatshop labor. As for Sony causing the damage to my camera, beyond a very unlikely excuse, my last repair was five months prior for a flex cable. Until now, Dru-ee had never mentioned problems with prior repairs, as a matter of fact, I was never given any credible reasoning why either "professional" couldn't fix my camcorder. 5) "Three days to ship?" On Thursday you told me the tech ordered the part and would have it Friday AM, and that it might be finished Friday. Friday, twice, over 5 hours, you told me "he's still working on it." Saturday, noon, "maybe later..." This spilled over to Monday, and that he was "having problems..." 6) The loading assembly was not "easily replaced." Beyond the damage caused to the recording head, which had been fine prior to - and *is not* part of a loading mechanism more than proximate - their "repair" work also had to be replaced by the Glendale shop. And yes the HDV/DV-out, which you also didn't bother to fix in the same 21 days... You mean the very same HDV/DV-out you lied about (passed on a lie about) replacing a flex-cable in the touch-screen assembly to repair? 7) And yes, I may have seemed impatient after a while. Lied to, ignored, chided for my follow-up calls - which was your job - who wouldn't? 8) Not sure about his "dirty heads" comment other than trying to cover his own a$$. The camera was used 2x for less than 2 hours each time - because of his dead batteries. Luckily what recordings I did make, show no ill affects from "dirty heads," though I lost a lot of material making up for the dead batteries. 9) Except for the initial drop off, and your calling the next day to advise me of your "rush" policy, nothing I experienced with your shop was professional. What I took in stride for the first week, turned out to be lies and wasted time in the end, 21 days later. Worse, Dru-ee's "professional," also broke the screw grommets to the top cover, prying it off, unprofessionally. Yes, I'm sure your tech emphatically denies any wrong doing, on a Sony standard HDR-HC camcorder, that he couldn't fix, in 21 days... read more

I normally don't write reviews, but it's hard to find high-quality service that is rooted in honesty. My Canon T5 experienced water damage on a recent trip to Iceland. My friend recommended I take it to Harry's to get it repaired. Dru'e was helpful and honest. When I got the estimate over the phone, I was asked if I'd rather sell it and buy a used camera instead. I decided to go ahead and have my camera repaired. I'm so glad I did - It's as good as new. Dru'e even threw in a free filter to protect my lens! On my way out he asked, "Will you do me a favor?" When I asked him what it was he smiled and said, "Have a great rest of your day." I hope I don't have any photography needs soon, but if I do, I know where to go. read more

When I say the best customer service ever I mean it! I have gone to some of the biggest photo and Video spots around town and came up dry just looking for a tripod head. I walked into Harry's and knew right away this place had what I was looking for. I purchased a used bogen 3063 head for a very reasonable price and it works perfectly with my slider. Dru'e has to be nicest person I've met in my short time in the film industry. He really gives his knowledge up readily and prices are very reasonable I'm not shopping online as often, I'm going to Harry's first! Harry's really brings it home for small businesses. Thanks Dru!
