I have been to Harami sushi many times in the distant past, but this is my first visit since they moved across the street. It's spacious, tastefully decorated and either they hit the jackpot with staff or their training is spectacular. My table had lots of questions, but everyone they interacted with was knowledgable, helpful and professional. They were able to satisfy my friends who are vegan, vegetarian, and even gluten free without batting an eye. The sushi itself was all delicious. Rolls and nigiri are served using forbidden rice, which is a great twist on standard sushi. I had hamachi - fresh and promptly served. I also had the omg roll, which is served theatrically on fire in an aluminum foil boat. It's unagi based so totally appropriate. As a late add on we had the ahi tower which is a definite must for appetizer in the future. It was a fun evening and we'll certainly return.
We were going downtown for a concert, craving some sushi and found this place on Yelp. No reservations available, I did check their website where you can be adding to a waitlist, but it stated currently no waitlist and invited us to just arrive at restaurant. We arrived a little after 5pm and the restaurant was mostly empty. But in the next 20 minutes it filled up and there was open sitting at the bar only. The mood was initially quiet but quickly turned more up beat as the restaurant filled and pop rock music was playing. We asked our waiter a few questions about a few of their rolls and he was very helpful with guidance and recommendations. We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. Our favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. We loved the pop the lemon added. Honorable mentions to the Spicy Tuna roll, very well done, excellent balance of heat and flavors. We truly enjoyed our dining experience and look forward to returning. Highly recommended for a quality sushi experience!
If you work downtown, or near downtown you need to add Harumi lunches into your rotation! The new Harumi, which is directly across from the old one, is huge inside and has a beautiful interior. My favorite lunch special, which is less than $20 comes with Udon & 2 of the signature house rolls. The Udon is a large portion with a ton of flavor in the broth. The AZ Roll is my favorite but you can't go wrong with any of their signature rolls. The purple rice is a staple! If you are up for it or visiting alone sit at the sushi bar, the sushi chefs put on a great show!
This place was easy to find and parking was close. I wish I knew about this place sooner. It's inside a hotel, super high-end decor although the place looks super fancy most customers walked in dressed in regular daily wear. We got there right at lunch so it was super busy during a weekday. We decided to sit at the bar. I ordered a draft jefe, forgot the name. We had a couple appetizers and their own lunch menu sushi. Everything was so delicious. The food was just the right temperature and looked amazing. The staff at the bar was extremely helpful and kind. We can't wait to go back and try other dishes.
First time here and I was not disappointed. All of the staff were friendly and helped each other run food and refill waters, which isn't something you see much of these days. We were there at around 5pm and it wasn't too busy, but there was a steady flow of diners coming in and out. Seating is ample, with outdoor, bar, sushi bar, and regular table options. I ordered two rolls: hot havana and mango roll. Both were delicious and the mango was juicy! The purple rice was super fun and set them apart from other sushi spots. I also ordered the miso soup to start. The food came out quickly. My only "complaint" is there aren't a ton of classic roll options. But this is a more upscale sushi restaurant, so it isn't surprising. I will keep this place in my list of spots to hit when I'm looking for a bite to eat in DTPHX.
High quality sushi for a great price in a cool location? Honestly, what could be better! Harumi came highly recommended by friends and family who live in town, so it was a must-try when we were visiting AZ over the holidays. There are plenty of nearby parking garages to choose from, and I don't believe they validate. We made a reservation for four adults and one baby for lunch, and we were glad we did because this is a popular spot! Nearly every table was full by the time we were leaving. I started with an iced matcha latte, which may have been one of the best I've ever had! It was smooth, sweet, and lightly frothy. Their lunch specials are an incredible value: you can get so much food for great price! I went with the Udon & Duo, which was $15 for a huge bowl of udon noodle soup and two sushi rolls of your choice from a select menu. Everything was fresh and flavorful - the sushi is made on purple rice which is a fun twist! Our server was so sweet, and they were well equipped and happy to serve a baby, although a very well-behaved baby at that. This is definitely on my list to revisit the next time we're in AZ!
A quality experience with food and with service. Fish was melt in your mouth and had a great taste. Very cute ambiance. Would consider coming back. Downtown parking is a pain even during lunch on a weekday, so plan early to get to your reservation on time. They accepted walk in for lunch though.
I'm going to start off by seconding the common opinion -- the black rice is tasty, but it doesn't make for amazing sushi rice personally, as it does tend to fall apart as soon as soy sauce touches it (even when just picking it up, especially the nigiri). I think it definitely makes for a great visual, but not my favorite. I've been to Harumi before a couple of times before they moved over to this bigger location, and I think the quality has stayed relatively the same. I think what shines here are the unique roll options and the fish quality. The service is also always great, I've always had really friendly servers, and the food comes out super fast (like almost concerningly fast hahaha). This time, my family came for a Sunday night dinner, and there was no wait at all. We shared a couple of rolls, some appetizers and udon. The gyoza was the deep-fried kind, which was good, I think I personally prefer pan-fried. The Oh My God roll is always a hit with people, as it comes with a fun little fire show, but I'm not a huge fan of very saucy rolls so I opted for the nigiri and rainbow roll combo -- which was great value! I didn't love the udon personally, I think there was a lot of pepper or spices that kind of overtook the flavor of the broth. Overall, the sushi itself was solid, appetizers were okay, but my family loves their rolls! I will definitely be back for drinks, as I saw some really cool options on the menu -- need to try that matcha martini for sure!
Surprised such an amazing sushi place exists in Phoenix ! I visited my friend in Phoenix and we liked Harumi so much that we came back the following day. Their decor is beautiful with a modern boho vibe and soft wood tones that's perfect for a date. We shared a few rolls and also ordered some kid friendly options (plain rice, side of avocado, sweet potato roll, avocado cucumber roll). Our favorite roll was the Hot Havana roll! Must get it if you like yellowtail! Also appreciate that they have a very affordable chef special that is perfect for those on a keto/low carb die. It came with 6 pieces of sashimi and the oasis roll. Love that that use a rice blend (purple or black rice?) that gives it a purple hue. We did order cocktails and sadly, my "Seija" cocktail which is a matcha martini missed the mark :( but my friend enjoyed hers.
Harumi is one of the top sushi restaurants in Phoenix, with great quality of fish and unique rolls. Their purple sushi rice is a fun addition, and also cooked/seasoned very well. The restaurant is warm and inviting, with very attentive waiters. It can be difficult to find parking downtown, but the meal is definitely worth it! I always will recommend harumi to people in search of great sushi in Phoenix.
F O O D This place came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The place was super vibe-y and is a great place to go with the girls or on a date. And the food was delicious! My sister and I loved everything we ate. The Caesar salad was fresh and the dressing delicious, and the sushi is made with purple rice instead of white which set the place apart from other sushi spots I've eaten at (in a good way!). They don't load up on the carbs and the fish to rice ratio was nicely proportioned. I thought that the prices were also pretty reasonable. I only caught the girl's name who brought out the Oh-My-God roll and gave us a show (thanks, May!), but the employees were quick to clear our tables and were so smiley and were so great to converse with. This is a must go-to spot whenever we visit Phoenix in the future. L O C A T I O N It's located in downtown inside what looked to be a business building. I actually have no idea where everyone typically parks, but we managed to find street parking a block away.
Outstanding service Delicious food and drinks - sushi was some of the best, we ordered a variety, plus the edamame with spicy garlic sauce was addicting!!! Quiet and cozy vibe - indoor/outdoor seating.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Fresh fish, quality food, excellent customer service, beautiful ambiance and mind blowing price points! This is the place to be. I had the lunch tower special, miso soup, edamame with the spicy garlic butter (I preferred the sea salt), the mackerel nigiri, the kurodai nigiri and they all did what they were supposed to do; excite my tastebuds and fill my belly. This was great! I didn't have a mocktail because I thought the prices ($19) were too expensive (the lunch menu was cheaper $16). The entire team was remarkable and I already see myself dining in there again VERY SOON! Check them out and enjoy!

Fantastic food and fantastic service. I'm from LA, and was not expecting to find this great of sushi in Arizona! Definitely recommend using the Yelp Waitlist feature or stopping by and putting your name down early (we put our names down an hour early through Waitlist) as it was busy. Despite the crowd, service was fantastic and staff was very attentive. My dad and I were very impressed! Photo is of the Oh My God roll (MUST get!), also ordered their sweet potato roll, mango roll, and one of their spicy roll I can't remember. All were great, but the Oh My God roll definitely was a show stopper. read more
This place looks tiny from the outside but there is ample seating inside. I had a delightful OMG roll that came wrapped in foil shaped like a boat. It was on a plate with some liquid that was ignited to heat up the roll inside the foil. The wait staff expertly unwrap the foil for you and you are presented with a delicious creation- just amazing. Everything on the menu looked good- I was spying on the dishes that went by to other tables. My advice: come hungry and with friends so that you can sample lots of menu items! Who knew best & freshest sushi would be in the desert! Wow, this place has delicious, melt in your mouth, make your belly dance with joy sushi, super friendly service, and reasonable prices! This is the flavor experience we were looking for and worth seeking out. Any time you are near the area, must stop here! We LOVED every dish and the chef even served us his own Hamachi specialty. The sashimi salad was too spicy and lacked flavor, so that would be the only thing I would skip and the Hamachi cheek is always my favorite and I have to order it any time it's on the menu. The vinegar sauce they served with it was perfectly balanced and actually used it for a lot of the other pieces of fish. Five YUMS for sure! read more

Worth the 5 star hype! We came for dinner our last night in Phoenix and we were super impressed! The restaurant is fairly small but it looks like they might be opening or expanding in a location across the street. We sat at a pretty tiny table but managed to fit 4 rolls on the table comfortably. We actually devoured them in under 10 minutes - we actually looked back at what time we arrived to when we finished our rolls and it was insanely fast. They were SO good. We ate everything, not even a rice crumb left. read more

What an awesome little sushi restaurant! Came here on a Friday night and it was popping. It was about 30 mins til our table was available, so we walked around DT for a little bit before our number was called. Paid for parking garage nearby, as street parking wasn't available. Even though it was busy, our server was friendly and our food was served quickly. The sushi was so fresh and delicious. We had a plethora of sushi rolls, sashimi and other appetizers. Even the miso soup was great! My favorite out of the rolls we order was the Harumi roll. Yellowtail kama was really good. Plenty of meat, done perfectly. To finish it off, we ordered some mochi. There were no leftovers. Definitely will be back when I'm in town. read more

My friend and I came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. When we arrived, we were seated right away toward the back of the restaurant. Food: I don't get to see this friend often as she lives in Phoenix (Love you Sydney!), so we may have gone a little overboard with how much we ordered. Edamame - Standard & done well Philly Roll - delicious 6 piece sashimi - Fresh & thickly sliced Salmon Nigiri - The salmon was fresh & generous Crispy Stuffed Jalapeño - this was much bigger than I was expecting, but it was so good. It came with 4 pieces, so great to share with a table of 4... or share with 1 other person to get 2 pieces each for some decadence Oasis Roll - this is a no-rice roll with cucumber on the outside with different fishes on the inside. Everything was fresh and delicious, albeit a little hard to pick up with chopsticks. Over The Rainbow Roll - Enjoyed that the jellyfish was put on the side, would recommend Crunchy Mango Roll - Mango was good, roll was flavorful Keep in mind that Harumi uses purple rice for all of their sushi. The purple is natural from ube or purple potatoes. It makes the rice more unique, but it definitely adds to their sushi. Ended with some mochi that was good. Service: The service was lovely today. Everyone was very attentive and kind. We were originally placed at one table and were asked to move when a large party came so they could seat them earlier. We didn't mind moving at all, as we didn't get any of our food yet. They were very apologetic though, and they offered us some free mochi for being willing to move. Grabbing lunch here made my Monday! After finishing up some work in downtown, my cousin informed me that this sushi restaurant serves up some delicious sushi with purple rice. I was impressed immediately. I ordered the 5pc Nigiri combo that comes with a Crazy Roll and she ordered the Salmon Chirashi combo. Everything was delicious and the fish was fresh. We were also given a salmon appetizer on the house. I would have to say that this is one of the best sushi restaurants I've been to in awhile in AZ. They found a customer for life. read more

Let's just say this is place wowed me. This place didn't take reservation so we put ourselves on waitlist at 5ish so we didn't have to wait when we got there. You can tell this place is extremely popular so by 6pm there's a long line outside. We ordered a $39 Omakasa which came with 10 pieces of nigiri and 5 sashimi pieces, most importantly, freshly made wasabi! The fish tasted fresh and the variety was good as well. The OMG specialty roll we ordered was flavorful and our waiter put on a fun show for us. Service was very quick so we were able to get in and out within an hour given how busy they were. $60 for two people was a great price for the quality of food, service and the location. Can't wait to visit again. read more

This place was recommended by the staff at a nearby hotel we were staying at, and it did not disappoint. GOOD TO KNOW IF YOU GO: We came at lunch time on a weekday and there was no wait (got seated right away). However, we walked by this place the night before around dinner time and there was literally a line of people out the door. So I guess it all depends. We took that as a good sign though that this must be a good place to eat. WHAT WE ATE: My wife and I are connoisseurs of udon, and the udon we had here was probably in the top two of our favorites of all time. We also tried a couple rolls...the "Arizona" roll and the "Sex & The City" roll. Both were excellent. My wife said the Arizona roll was probably her favorite roll she's ever had, and I thought the Sex & The City roll was my favorite. And we eat at a fair amount of sushi places, so that's saying something! OUR THOUGHTS OVERALL: The food and service were both excellent here. Glad we gave this place a try and we see why they can get quite busy. Two thumbs way up! read more

Honestly, it is the best sushi ever and we are in the desert! The presentation, freshness and outstanding service are beyond 5 stars. My daughter and I were looking for a GOOD place for lunch that was "most rated" near Tempe. Although this was a drive for me coming to visit her from N. Scottsdale to Tempe then downtown, it was well with the effort! We started with the Sunomono salad. It was fresh and tasty with the ponzu sauce! We ordered the "Oh My God" roll. It has crispy shrimp tempura, avocado, crab salad topped with sweet shrimp & Eel, spicy Mayo & Eel sauce with Tobiko. It was delicious! My daughter was literally like "OMG, OMG, OMG". The presentation is great as it comes to the table wrapped in tin foil which the waitstaff lights up to warm the rice and steam the roll! We also got the "Crunch Mango" which was also SO yummy! Combo of spring crab, mango termite flakes, avocado, salmon, tuna spicy Mayo and sweet Eel sauce! Heavenly to the taste buds. My daughter also got the Vegan "Veggie" Roll which she enjoyed as well although the "OMG" was the best roll she said she had ever tasted! Do not delay; get your sushi fix here!! read more

This place was amazing, the sushi was phenomenal! The place was a little dark for my liking, but the music was great. It was my first time here and I already want to go back. The prices are reasonable and they have a great selection of sushi and saki. The sushi tasted so fresh and the presentation of each roll we ordered was definitely picture worthy! The top Nigiri, Roll, Sashimi Restaurant In Downtown Phoenix. Get there when it opens at 4pm if you don't want to wait. Street parking is $1.50 per hour before 8pm. Affordable fresh fish with colorful brown instead of white rice... Ordered a lot of food since we just finished walking through the Matsuri Festival in Heritage Square and didn't see sushi meeting our tastes. Thus ordered: - Oh My God Roll - their flaming signature $13 roll in which Servers want you to say "Oh My God!" with them when they flame up the roll. Acquired taste for this roll as some like the smokey taste while others will say it tastes like lighter fluid. Definitely a gimmick for those on a date- flamin' hot, hot, hot. - Unagi Donburi, a $19 mound of Unagi on brown rice with sauce and Avocado. Around 12 large pieces... really nice! - Toro Sashimi, four large pieces for $18, fresh, fresh, velvety, velvety.... repeating for emphasis. - Crazy Roll & Nigiri (5 Pieces) Combo - $17, beautifully plated, Tuna, Salmon, Avocado, Masago Wrapped In edible Soy Paper, while the Nigiri were composed of large pieces of salmon and tuna - Spider Roll- $11 which was a Soft Shell Crab Roll, this was ok... And FRESH ground wasabi for $2... A beautiful, fresh fish, feast with excellent service! Definitely tops in Downtown Phoenix. read more
Harumi is a great sushi place. The fish is fresh. The rice is purple which is funky and different and it is equally as fresh. Every time I've been there, I've felt rushed. I figured it's because they are in such demand that they wanna service other customers. So come here if you want a great sushi dinner but don't expect you can stay for hours upon hours as they'll likely pressure you there are others waiting for a table. read more

Thank you Team Harumi Sushi. My boyfriend and I always eat at Harumi's when we travel to Phoenix. Last night we brought my entire family a party of 13 from San Diego, CA to enjoy the sushi we rave about as we go on our vacation in AZ. Everyone from the Host to the Servers treated my family with kindness and professionalism. Even though we all had to sit at 3 different tables, they kept the orders all correct and had it all ready set for one bill. I want to say thank you to our Server Andy. I really don't know what my mom and he was talking about as he helped her walk out towards the exit but it was priceless to see the both of them walking side by side laughing. Thank you all again for making us feel welcomed and at home. read more

At first, I was thrown off because my woman and I were walking in a different direction than I remembered when I last went to Harumi. Turns out, they've moved in to a brand new location and it looks amazing! Loved the new look, the sushi was fresh and delicious per usual, and the service was great! Definitely one of my personal favorites in Arizona when it comes to sushi. Top spot contender for best sushi in the valley?.. 100%. read more

Yes, they offer a great variety of gluten free, and vegan rolls! Gluten free/low sodium soy sauce too!!! They are also great at customizing a roll, ie, taking something out for your vegan needs.
Is there a parking lot for the restaurant and if not what are closest parking location?
Metered parking, there is a garage in the financial building but it costs a lot. Entrance is between central and first ave on Adams. You can get it validated for a little bit off at the bar or one of the shops on the ground floor.
What is the "real wasabi" that you can order? Fresh wasabi (like at Roka Akor) is grated from the actual root. The stuff Harumi serves is wet and delicious, but what is it?! What's it made with/from?…

If you're referring to the owners, then no. But you certainly should not let that deter you. It's definitely worth a visit.
Does this place have a kids menu?
No - but the menu is generic across all ages groups.. don't think you will have any problems - have taken my kids before and never an issue.
What does purple rice taste like? My husband is very picky anything different and he will not eat it.
Just tell him to man up and eat it.
