I was excited to try a new all you can eat sushi place. Well, it's new to me... My regular sushi place is still my favorite, but sometimes I like to venture out. Yama is much nicer and fancier than I expected. A huge selection of items available on the all-you-can-eat menu too. Some specialty items have a 1 order maximum, but there are so many to choose from, this is not really an issue. It's nice that you could sit at the sushi bar and do all you can eat. Most other places only have tables. The service was pretty quick and efficient, which is not always the case in some all you can eat places. You have 90 minutes to complete your gorging, which is ample time. The quality of the fish seemed good, but I wasn't too fond of some of the sauces. If you're familiar with sushi, the same sauces are used on a large amount of the rolls. If you want quantity over quality, this is definitely the place to go. $40 is pretty good for such a variety. If I want to eat a stupid amount of sushi, this is where I'm going to come. Normally, I will still continue to go to my regular spot.

10/10 would recommend!! The service was fantastic, sushi was fresh and lots of fun options. They also have deals on different days of the week and an all you can eat option. My only complaint was the very limited parking! Other than that, I would highly recommend

Food was really good. Service not so great. Kind of felt like if I was asking my younger brother to pretend to be nice to me. Asian man was who "took care" of me today. Told me I can't modify my food, which I understand only if it's TRUE. I ordered dessert to go that's when I guess I set him off he gave me an attitude. Whatever Sushivibe is my spot anyway.

Love this place. Great service and atmosphere. Love sitting outside when weather permits. Happy hour offers your general sushi fare, for a great price. Can't go wrong with this place.

SO GOOD! Every time I come it's not busy which is nice because my sushi comes out pretty fast & it's delicious. The servers are sweet and attentive. It's a small restaurant and has tv's behind the sushi chefs so it's nice to watch the game while you eat.

Yama Phoenix recently started offering an All You Can Eat menu for $39.95 in July...and I've been 4 times since. They are the best AYCE sushi spot in the Valley and my partner and I have been to most of them. Their premium offerings include beef short rib (galbi), toro, bluefin tuna, uni, wagyu beef, among others of which you can only get 1 order per person. It's worth it- especially the galbi and toro! They also offer robata which is really nice because the bbq sticks help break up the monotony of sushi. Sometimes they come out dry but the flavor is good. We recommend the sichuan (it's not spicy). Sushi roll options are pretty diverse. 1 order comes with 4 pieces which is awesome if you want to try multiple rolls without getting too stuffed. Our favorite is the Dragon Ash roll. The ultimate test for me is if a restaurant is consistent, and Yama passes. The regular tuna is hit or miss but everything else is solid. Don't forget to order the tempura cheesecake at the end. Service has always been excellent! Last call for the AYCE menu is 9:30pm. We learned the hard way. Parking in front can be limited but you can find ample street parking nearby.

Family was looking for a new sushi spot, and we think we've found our new regular in Yama Sushi House. I wish I had remembered to take pictures of the menu, as well as the other food items, but we were enjoying ourselves so much that it slipped my mind. As we entered, we were greeted with smiles from the entire staff, welcoming us in. So many good-looking items to choose from, it took us a moment to familiarize ourselves with the menu. We started out with the garlic edamame, which was fantastic. For my entrees, I went with the Tuna Lover and Phoenix rolls. Both huge stand outs for me on the menu, but even more so once I was eating them. There are other rolls that caught my eye, that I will be wanting to go back and try as well. But from what I picked, I will not be disappointed in the quality and freshness of their rolls. The presentation, taste, and quality really had an impact on our overall dining experience here. We are looking forward to being back soon, as we are definitely hooked on this place. Two last things: parking isn't the best, but you can make it work. Im not deducting 'stars' because of a limited parking situation. Makes it that much more exclusive. Daphne was a server, and she was absolutely charming. She came off as poised, professional, and had such an upbeat demeanor, it helped add to the overall experience. Thank you, Daphne!

The best sushi I have ever had; beautiful, fresh fish that tasted incredible without being drowned in stupid sauce do you think this is a game Our waiter was so sweet and handsome and everything came out in no time I will surely name my firstborn after him Yama sushi saved my marriage

This restaurant was suggested by a friend. We came for lunch on a Sunday. It was not busy but we kinda expect this during the summer. There is limited parking at the front, my friend parked in the back. We ordered the spicy garlic edamame - it was flavorful but not too spicy. We shared a variety of chef's specialty rolls. My least favorite was the lollipop roll - I think not worth the price. The ninja roll was good. I forgot the names of the other 2 we tried. Overall I felt the meal was good but not outstanding and I have other sushi places that I would go first before coming back. Service was great. Our server was very attentive.

Came here on Friday 11/28 got the AYCE. Quality of food isn't bad. The skewers were not to my liking because it had the northern chinese spice on it. The raw oysters were delicious. They give a little too much rice for the nigiri. Decent selections available. Parking is tight in the plaza. Service had been good so far since it wasn't full when we came around 5pm. 5 and under eat free.

    Come here for great sushi!

Ask the Community - Yama Sushi House - Phoenix

Is the AYCE menu here the same as the Union Hills location? Seems like this has more options?

Actually our Union Hills location is not offering AYCE option yet. All other 4 stores are offering AYCE using the same menu.

Does Yama do happy hour from 2-6 on the weekends too?

    Yes!

Is this an all you can eat sushi/roll?

I don’t think so- nice cozy restaurant - good sushi great udon soup. It’s moderately priced.

Do you serve Omurice with demi glace instead of ketchup?

Hi Mike, sorry we are not able to replace ketchup with demi glace, but you can order without ketchup. Thanks

Are you still only to go?

    No! Dine-in is available.

Are you open for dine in?

We are currently take out only at this location. Chandler and Scottsdale are open for dine in.

    Do they have ayce?

Not that I am aware of. I’ve been there a few times for lunch, never dinner (live EV).

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

We were nearby for a show, and decided to stop in on a Wednesday evening for a late dinner with some friends. They have a good happy hour menu, and my friends ordered off there, but I was craving sushi so I got the nigiri omakase. It came with miso soup, which I enjoyed, definitely hard to go wrong there. The sushi itself was decent, nothing crazy, but definitely better than grocery store quality. The tuna and salmon pieces were a little fishy, maybe not the freshest, but it was also quite late (~10pm) so I wasn't expecting too much. Beautifully presented, and the cuts were quite large which was nice! The food came out pretty fast, and the service was pleasant. The restaurant vibes are pretty dark, and moody. The bathroom was kind of scary personally, super dark and a little messy, so I decided to wait till I got home. Overall, a solid experience, and definitely a good choice if I am in the area.

The retro-vibed atmosphere of the Papago Motor Inn complements the laid back pace of your meal. This is not a sushi spot or an Izakaya. Hai Noon is a chef presenting southwestern ingredients in a most respectful, flavorful and innovative manner. I was lucky enough to return 3 times in the past month. To my surprise, ingredients and sauces did not repeat themselves, and dishes were completely distinct in flavor and presentation. This is definitely my favorite food experience of the past few years...anywhere. All of our visits were handled by our waiter/guide "Arizona", who described dishes, and when asked what his favorites were (and unlike many other places that say everything is good when it isn't), he informed us we would love everything, but he could help us with the order we ate them, and suggest a sampling if we were just picking out a half dozen dishes. He was right. Everything was captivating, surprising and...absolutely delicious. Do not miss the specials...there will be 4 or 5 on a small piece of paper, and a couple of "special" drinks. These are seasonal items the chef wants to add because of the timing and presentation. They exemplify the category...they are indeed, SPECIAL. The second visit established a pattern. Have Arizona order, until you are full. He checked in with us along the way, and made a few modifications based on our hunger level, and allowing for certain dishes to be repeated. A few things really stood out because I hadn't tasted anything quite like those dishes. Other dishes ie: variations on classic aguachile, were just better than anything I've had elsewhere. Salmon and Whitefish carpaccios were both stellar, with really good hot sesame oil adding to the dish's garlic, ginger and Yuzu base. And, when you are done with the last bite of fish, they bring out rich, grilled slices of bread to mop up that sauce. We last started with Sashimi featuring Sea Bream, that had fatty belly, and less fatty but oh-so-flavorful filet slices, and an accompanying broth. Big Eye Tuna was served on a flavorful beet puree with sweet dark cherry wine notes. Since we didn't read the menu's notes before, a quick check showed that Nobuo does create a Pinot Noir reduction that invites wiping the plate clean. The first time, the Tuna and all traces of the puree were finished by the time Arizona walked out to describe the dish for us. That's why I re-ordered it each time we visited. Soup spoons present a sashimi/ceviche/aguachile experience that is delicate, nuanced, complex and downright spectacular in your mouth. Whether it showcased an oyster, hamachi or kampachi, each spoon was an amazing taste experience with complementing flavors and textures that were completely unexpected. Softshell Crab with cold noodles was the most succulent Softshell crab I have ever enjoyed, warm, beautifully moist and flavor popping within its crispy exterior, set off by the chilled vinegar and broth accented noodles. Brussel Sprouts with a honey mustard and wasabi glaze disappeared immediately. As it turns out, wasabi is the missing ingredient in many Brussel Sprout dishes! The Yams with goat cheese and Fresno chiles reminded me of the amazing fire-grilled gourds and yam dishes I have had at Bacanora...just unique and different. Two Wash chicken was beautifully caramelized finger food that I could also have made a meal out of. We thought it was amazing, and then the chef came out and told us how inspired he was when he first met the chicken farmers and cooked with their chicken, and if possible, the chicken became even more memorable for the story and connection. Curry marinated lamb was rich, and savory, and was another dish I could make a meal out of. The Pork Belly and Mushroom rice was likewise delicious, and full or deep umami richness and delectable meat and mushroom morsels. The Mushrooms en papillote (mushrooms served in paper), had absorbed what tasted like a delicious Veal Stock, were tastily caramelized, and then steamed in the paper container. They were so good we had to have another...and we weren't skimping on food. Beverages (Alcoholic and non) get the same attention. The cocktail list sounds absolutely crazy, with improbable ingredients. But all of the ones we sampled work, and they are wonderful (sharing amongst our table, we have now tried over half of the cocktails...and so far, they are damn great drinks). The beer selection is small and ideal for the food, as are the well-chosen cold sakes that span all budgets. It is better with a small group of people so you can really explore the breadth of fabulous offerings, but I think it's also an amazing spot to share food on a date!

The salmon was room temperature/a little warm which threw me off and made it tough to enjoy. Maybe a cold plate for serving would help combat this! The flavor was there, but the temperature made me nervous. Maybe order: the yams. For me, it had way too much topping in a small bowl, which made it overwhelming. Our soups were brought out pretty quickly and our food not long after. For the price point ($12) and quantity, my lunch special was definitely worth it. It came with 10 California rolls, 5 shrimp tempura rolls, and 3 gyozas. I was pleased to see their gyozas have chicken in them, usually they have pork so I can't eat them. I love their purple rice - so unique. I don't think I'd tried it before and it was good. All of the items I tried were fresh and flavorful. Service was great and I was surprised it wasn't busier during their lunch hour. Maybe later on or dinner gets more of a crowd. I'm glad we tried out this spot and I'd love to come back!

I also ordered salmon skin and here is where the star deduction came into play. The salmon skin was served to me the way I asked - no rice, no sauce, no vegetables - BUT, it was burnt. So if I do go back, I would probably request them NOT to cook it so long. I ordered my husband a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll to go. He said the spicy tuna was good but the spicy salmon wasn't - it was as if the salmon quality that was used was poor.

The EXO noodles were really good and had just enough spice without being too hot. Plenty of seafood in it too. Katsu chicken sandwich was also quite tasty and the fries were some of the best fries I've had in a long time with an interesting dipping sauce. All in all a great experience I will definitely stop there next time I'm anywhere close!

Allergy warning! There are undeclared walnuts in the vegan potstickers. I have a walnut allergy and…read morethis ruined a recent date night at CK. I've enjoyed the vegan offerings at CK for years without issue, but this recent event has made me question whether I'll be returning. On a recent visit, my guy and I ordered the vegan potstickers to start, and also each ordered a cocktail and entree. As we finished sharing the potstickers, my throat and mouth started to itch and tingle, an indicator that I'd been exposed to something I'm allergic to. Our server came by and we asked if there are any nuts in the potstickers, and he quickly said that yes he's pretty sure there are. Then he asked if there was an allergy, to which I replied yes, I'm allergic to walnuts. He went to the kitchen and came back to say their allergen chart indicates tree nuts, but he'd have to ask the chef which one specifically. The server left again and was gone for at least 5 minutes at this time... Since we needed resolve quickly, my boyfriend left our table and went down the street to get me Benadryl. While the bf was gone, the server came back and said he couldn't find any Benadryl in the emergency kit, and asked how I was doing. I was quite uncomfortable, but trying to be patient waiting for Benadryl to arrive. Not sure what else was to be done in that moment. While I was hanging out alone waiting on my bf to return, the manger eventually came over and checked on me. He said he would take the potstickers off the bill. Gee, thanks? In hindsight, paying nearly $100 for the rest of the meal felt like a gut punch when I couldn't really enjoy anything and my guy had to physically leave in the middle of the meal to fix an issue they caused with negligence. Menu screenshot attached is from 5/18, which is about 2 weeks after my incident, so I'm assuming CK has not yet fixed their menus.
