I guess you get what you pay for... my first foray into a groupon haircut resulted in absolute disaster. I knew something was off when I noticed that there was hair stuck on the showerhead of the basin the stylist washed my hair in... but it got progressively downhill from there. I had a specific layered look I was going for, which I showed her a picture of multiple times, but it was concerning that she didn't seem to be cutting any layers in and instead was haphazardly trying to trim a static shape into my hair without once measuring to make sure that my hair was MAYBE EVEN ON BOTH SIDES??? And it gets worse! She then blow dried my hair and styled it with a slight curl at the end, which is fine, except that she continued to cut the static shape into my hair so that it looked okay at the salon, but lo and behold, once I washed my hair, it was horrifically uneven. As a result of this, I've had to keep my hair tied up or curled so that the extremely uneven ends aren't noticeable. Overall Review: I totally recommend her! I found Harumi on Groupon and got the $39 haircut including conditioning and blowout. She seems to be very booked with clients, so try to get an appointment in advance. She will try her best to squeeze you in to see you sooner, so just ask when she's available. Initially, I was a bit worried as I was planning on cutting my hair really short. (My hair reached almost my lower back when I walked into the salon) I showed her the haircut I wanted online and also showed her my past short haircut, so she knows what looks best for me. She made sure I was okay with cutting xx inches every time she went at it. I was actually the one pushing her to cut her more, so it felt like I had control over my hair (which I liked). I was greeted by cute & petite Harumi herself, as we were the only ones there Sunday evening, despite it being a shared space. I liked how private and cozy it was. BOOKING: I booked a lifebooker loot (if you don't know what lifebooker is, message me or look it up! It's like groupon but just for beauty services, and a godsend) for haircut, deep conditioning and blow dry for $39. I booked my appointment over email: harumi@harumisalon.net but you could also call/text (message me for her #). Super convenient and timely. DEEP CONDITIONING: The deep conditioning was not a careless throw-on to the package: she took care in making sure the conditioner was rubbed in with her fingers and then brushed out my knots with a comb/brush for probably a good ten minutes. My hair needed the TLC! HAIRCUT: She asked me how I wanted my haircut and could sense my weary in cutting my long locks. (I only wanted to cut the split ends). She promised only 1/2 inch, which she delivered!!! Very precise cutting. I know girls are always apprehensive about leaving a salon with three inches off despite our specific instructions. *shudder* ** I know she does men's haircuts as well. I get the Japanese thermal reconditioning annually and always dread the long procedure, but for the first time ever, I actually had fun at my 5-hour long appointment! What can I say, she's got a way with hair. (I purchased a Groupon for 2 wash/deep condition/cut/blowdry/style for $69.) I came in on a Friday night at 7:00 and left a round 8:15/8:30, so I knew this wasn't a rushed job for her unlike some other places where they have you in and out of the chair in less than 30. Egh. I came in with pretty damaged ends from my third round of bleaching (but she asked me where I got my color done, so sweet!), and wanted ONLY an inch or two off. I had super long, waist length hair and I wanted to keep it that way. I've had too many hairdressers in the past who would hear "1-2 inches" and proceed to cut off 4, so I was very nervous. However, Harumi is an angel. She sat me down for five minutes asking in extreme depth, what kind of cut/style I exactly wanted. What a breath of fresh air. I asked for layers? She asked long or short. How much of an angle. How about the back. "I'm going to cut *this* much and if you want more layers afterwards, I can give you more layers." It's amazing how so many other hairdressers would be miffed at having to "re-do" a job after finishing, but Harumi was more than happy to cut less than I might have wanted to give room for touch-ups if I had actually wanted to make the length shorter/add more layers. _______________ TLDR; SUPER attentive, she will give you the cut you ASK for, not a rushed job!!! read more

I wish I could leave a great review for Harumi because she was very enthusiastic, friendly and sweet, but I'm sad to say the cut just wasn't great. I had brought a few photos with me for a long multi-layered style and I ended up with sort of a 2-layer cut and about 3-4 inches lopped off. I think we also had some communications issues as I mentioned a couple of times that I didn't want the ends to be straight, but she must have interpreted the opposite. I couldn't tell when I walked out because she's waved/curled the ends of my hair, but the next morning after a wash and dry, I was disappointed to see that you can basically line up my hair to a ruler. I'm at a point where I can't really get it fixed without having another inch or two cut off, so I'm just going to grow it out and get it restyled. :( On the plus side, the scheduling process and quick and easy. Dial 503 + green button, at the entrance AND at the elevator! When I got to Harumi, I was surprised that it was a very simple and clean salon. I was the only patron at 9am on a Wednesday, and the privacy made the experience much more intimate and special. I trusted her for her advice on what to do with my unruly wavy/curly/who-am-i-kidding-it's-frizzy hair, and I'm so glad I did. An hour and a half later, my hair was transformed into sleek and polished 'do. If you guys are fans of the conditioning, definitely purchase the 4pack at-home treatments afterward! They're cheaper from her than anything you'd find online, and it definitely lengthens the effect of the conditioning treatment. The cut is good--not the best I've ever had, but if it grows out nicely then I'll be happy and will go back. Her regular price for a cut is pretty reasonable and she seems open to taking direction. The space is a small studio that she shares with some other stylists, although it was empty when I was there. I have to say, it's nice to deal with a small operation.
