N and I wanted to get our nails done, but the Finishing Bar was completely booked, so I found this place on Yelp and I want to say the cleanliness of this place really need to some TLC. They put the dog cage and have the dog right in the smack of the walk way. Do they not care people can trip over this dog and the cage? I was a bit sketched out because of the quality of the nail polish was questionable - they need to toss most of these out, since HELLOS - expired! Anyways, I want to say the person who did my nail - she does hair and nails. She didn't do a good job on my nails, since you're supposed to put on the flip flops before you paint the toes. Naturally, when she tried putting them on after she painted them...I wonder why they got messed up? So one of my toe is pretty screwy and half-ass...totally noticeable and really messed up looking. I didn't like they share the scrub for people's feet - this is why I don't ever do pedicures. Manicure, I got Ellie - she only does nails here. She did a good job on N with mani and pedi. She did my nails because I asked for designs - she's not as detail oriented as I hope she would be. My nail art - fell off after 2 hours! I would come back here if they fix the sanitary conditions and toss the old nail polishes away. I would only go to Ellie for the nails though - since my nails didn't chip as fast, although my nail art died. read more

My friend recommended Kanako when I mentioned that my hairdresser of four years moved to New Orleans. I was a little skeptical, because I usually go through a few hairdressers before I latch onto one until either I move or the hairdresser moves. I have learned to trust this friend with hair, because Kanako is amazing. Kanako is super friendly and has great attention to detail at a very reasonable price point. I was impressed with a simple cut and style on my initial two visits and was embolden to finally dye my hair for the next. I have been talking about dying my hair blue for the past decade or so, and finally decided on a turquoise ombre. She did a great job and even six weeks later, I am still getting compliments on my hair and inquiries where I got it done. Went here about a month ago but never got to review the place. After peeking in through the window, I knew I had to go in. Kanako salon is so colorful. It's pink!! I went to get a manicure which is 10 bucks. The woman who did my nails (Ellie) was so kind and gracious. She was easy to talk to and made me feel at ease. It was a contrast to all my other experiences where the nail technicians were so quiet. I left happy with my manicure which didn't chip for about two weeks. Come here for your nails! For starters, I treasure my hair. Most especially my length. I first read about Kanako on Yelp and decided to check the place out. I made an appointment for a haircut and as soon as I arrived, she welcomed me with open arms. I told her specifically how I desired my hair to be and I was astonished on how much it mattered to her. She listened closely to every single detail. Throughout the haircut, she asked me questions about myself, told me about herself, asked for my opinion, etc. To me, that's one of the most important aspects of a salon's customer service. Based on past experiences, I normally don't trust salons, I fear that they're going to do whatever they want with my hair and I'll end up looking ridiculous or regretting the decision. Yet, I was so comfortable at this salon and with Kanako. I trusted her 100%. She did an absolutely AMAZING job. I am so thankful I came across her reviews on this very site! My hairdresser up and moved to Brazil and I've been trying to figure out what to do. Last time I went to anyone else it didn't turn out well. She recommended that I check out Kanako and I couldn't be happier. My hair looks fantastic. Did I mention that I had a knot in my stomach about trying a new hairdresser? I'm really picky. And right now I am soooo relieved that I've found my new hairdresser. The prices are completely reasonable ($50 for my cut). The place is also totally sweet and relaxed. If you care about sanitation, go here at your own risk. Walked in for my appointment and the hair dresser (owner perhaps) was eating with her gloves on at the front counter. She had someone waiting with product in her hair move chairs so I could sit down. As soon as a I sat down she started touching my hair without washing her hands or changing her gloves. Immediately she took me to the back to wash my hair while there was a dirty container with some sort of product sitting in the basin of the sink and asked me to sit down. Dirty used gloves draped over the top of the basin. When I asked her about the mess and the lack of clean gloves she attempted to move things around. The proceeded to argue with me over her need to wear gloves. I told her I was not comfortable with the cleanliness level and she told me I could leave if I wanted. From the first day Kanako touched my hair in 2008, she got me, she got my hair and she got my budget. She has carefully taken my hair from long to short, black to blonde, and everything in-between. She is flexible with appointments, fun, sweet and honest. She won't do things to your hair that will make your hair angry, she will tell you straight-up when a keratin treatment is not going to save your nasty split ends and you just need to trim them. I highly recommend her. Here's some info you might find helpful if you are considering trying Kanako Salon: - It's super pink in there. I for one, like the pink :D but maybe you aren't as into it. DO NOT let that dissuade you (this means you, dudes) because the quality of the service is better than anything else you'll get for this price in NYC. - Tell her what you want but trust her if she gives you her opinion. She's looking out for you and your hair, not just trying to get your money. - The shop is small so don't bring a ton of people with you. - Kanako knows how to handle ALL different types of hair. I have some unruly tresses and I've seen people with every type of hair leave her shop beautiful and happy with their do. - If you want a blow out that will make you feel like a million bucks, look no further. - She's awesome at special event hair! Kanako also does hair for fashion shows, photo and video shoots so she knows how to glam up your stuff. I come here to do my lashes. Kanako is very helpful in helping you choose what she thinks would look good on you. Lash extensions is $60. The first time I did it, lasted almost a month long! Although second time I did it only lasted 2 weeks, which is completely my fault for not properly caring for it. I'd continue to come back here to do my lashes.
