Reportedly the oldest blues club in greater Los Angeles, open since 1931 in the same location. From the velvet drape where your cover is paid, to the long bar down on side and upholstered bench and cocktail tables on the right, the compact dance floor and stage in front of you has a classic old school club vibe that is hard to beat. I have been to harvelle's about 10 times over several years. The bouncer and waitresses are always friendly. As for the music, on select evenings there are still some notable acts, on others, great bands with great music. My favorite is Blowin' Smoke and the Fabulous Smokettes, a classic R&B band. If you arrive after 8:30 or 9:00, you'll have trouble finding a place to sit. The dance floor is fun, but when it's crowded, people stand on the dance floor, kind of a bummer, but what are you gonna do? I love this place! read more

Nothing compared to the live music venues in the Hollywood area. But after moving to the Westside, I realize it's very hard to head out of this area due to traffic and the simple fact that it's just super far from everything and the uber rides can add up. The evening I went (Friday), a local band was playing and I thought they were pretty bad. The place wasn't very crowded. The server wasn't very good. She seemed like she hated her job, never came around for refills so I had to keep flagging down the girl who she was training. On our last night in LA... we stopped by a bar near Venice Beach on a Sunday evening. Striking up a conversation with a cool bartender, he mentioned Harvelle has a fantastic show every Sunday night by The Toledo Players. So our group decided to make our way there to end the night. We get to Harvelles and there's a $10 cover charge. No biggie. You can pay with cash or credit at the door. Walking in, pretty much all the tables were reserved so we opted to sit at the bar. This ended up being the best place to sit because little did we know but this show includes dancers who come up on the table! If you use a credit card at the bar, there's a 2 drink minimum. Easy for me to hit, since I'm a boss at drinking. I order my Bulleit bourbon and get ready for the show. A raspy voice of an older black gentleman comes through the speakers. This dude is smoking a cigar and singing about "Welcome to The Rabbit Hole." It's one of the best things ever. The dancers come out, jazz music is playing, and if you listen closely, you'll hear some raunchy lyrics. I'm IN LOVE! All to say, I'm happy we found this rabbit hole. It was a great time, loved the dancers, the music, the jazz, and the bar service was excellent. Last tip for newbies: Don't try to move the chairs from a table to a bar. We came in on a Monday recently for our anniversary and while it was a slow night we expected that and we still had a great time while folks jammed out on stage. I've been here in the past where it was shoulder to shoulder which was fine but this was also a pleasant experience being able to sit and chat with my husband or the musicians, all around fun experience. Harvelle's is a gem! Live music for a reasonable cover charge (usually around $10). I regularly check their online calendar to see which performers interest me. Aside from the Toledo show on Sunday (btw I'm not a fan), the bands change frequently. Thursday nights are burlesque, but tickets are much more expensive. If you want a view of the stage, go a little earlier (like before 9:30) to snag a table closer to the front. Otherwise, there are tables in the back if you prefer some privacy. Also, there is a small dance floor near the stage. Pours are generous, beer is cold. There's a parking structure right next door. Awesome date night or just a nice change of pace on the westside. The crowd tends to be on the older side, but diverse. I love live music so Harvelle's is always on my short list. Ps. On Saturdays, there's usually a taquero out back. Came here on a Sunday night as a night out with some friends. Was more so expecting another bar like many of the others I've been to in the past but I was very impressed with everything going on! From the burlesque to the live music it was honestly more than what I had expected and I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone who is looking for something out of the ordinary. BEWARE OF USING YOUR CREDIT CARD - EXTRA TIPS ADDED AND STAFF SIGNING OFF ON RECEIPTS WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE!!I have thought about what to say when writing this review but at the end of the day - it's about customer service (or in this instance lack thereof) and how the issue was handled. I have been to Harvelle's before and really enjoyed myself. However, my last visit, in early July, left me upset not only at the business practices but the "Operating" Manager, Damian. After visiting, I saw numerous charges on my debit card - most fell off after 3 or 4 days. Two stuck out to me and I asked for copies which Damian provided with an explanation of my purchases - while correct were not in the order paid. I used my card 3 separate times (tickets and two drinks); however, two transactions were combined and a tip added - A TIP THAT I DID NOT INCLUDE AND A TOTAL BILL I DID NOT SIGN FOR! Seeing that this happened on both receipts, I reached out to Damian who explained that they add a set charge for tabs left open - note I didn't leave a tab open for any of my transactions. Going back and forth on email, I was accused of "not remembering what took place" or "I remember it how I want to" and was told there are signs posted around the inside of the club that call out the gratuity rule. I noticed the chalkboard/mirror in front of me which would have been a great place for this but I guess I am supposed to look around a dark club for signage about their cc policy! Yeah not so much As we continued, I stressed to Damian that this is pretty unethical and that I didn't authorize that amount. He ignored my comments, told me he would reimburse me for one of the tips when in fact there were two totaling $10. I was then told I could provide my cc number to him (which sounded like it was a burden to him) or provide my Venmo. I opted for the latter and my $10 was refunded. While many of you may say, it's only $10 and yes it is but it's the principle for me. Yes, I provided my card to the staff at Harvelle's willingly; however, when I see signatures on receipts that aren't mine -that's where I have a problem. Unethical, illegal and really bad business practices. Having been in restaurant and hospitality and dealing with irate customers daily, THIS would be a terminable offense for my staff - point blank period. To sign off as someone else AND add a tip - really not good business. I would say take heed when visiting but really you need to TAKE CASH in order to not be bamboozled by their staff! read more

I had the sense of a rather messy club, where the drinks are hardly worth mentioning and you're better off ordering a cheap beer. The stage is narrow and small and the intimate dance floor can be fun if you are in the mood. I would not return here. It's chaotic and service is hard to get. The sound system is right at the bar instead of cleverly tucked away somewhere you would think more appropriate for an establishment whose bread and butter is musical acts. I wasn't lucky enough to land a night with the Burlesque show. Super bummed ! Burlesque shows are amazing. Nevertheless, we enjoyed live music from a Blues band- Jeff Dale. It was absolutely entertaining. To my younger people, don't think it's boring, it was so much fun ! (Usually 30 + year olds hang out here) They were so lively and interacting with everyone. They even left the stage to tune in with the crowd. Entrance was $10 but I don't know if that always applies. It may be more, free or less on different occasions. Drinks were affordable ! $26 tab for 5 cocktails. I definitely want to go back and check out the Burlesque show. read more

Harvelle's Blues Club is where I first saw The Toledo Diamond Show 20 years ago. I never forgot it. It was the best burlesque, sultry, sexy, and had a sound that's out of this world. I was always curious to go back to see if it was still cool. I went on a Sunday evening with some friends, and I have to say, this is the best gig in town. There is nothing like it. It's so interesting I can't even describe the ultra cool vibe and performance. It's something to experience yourself, I can say this, if you like this type of thing it will blow your mind.
