On the one hand I lament how Aspen-ized Lancaster County has become. There are now a bunch of swanky boutiques with chic products from who-knows-where alongside the traditional handicrafts (and kitschy souvenirs) which had been there when I visited as a teenager. On the other hand, I really appreciated having a restaurant which could accommodate my party's food restrictions. Most of their menu is or can be gluten free. Sadly, the very excellent fries are one of the few things that cannot be made GF. I had the sausage and clam soup, and I really enjoyed it. The broth had great mouth feel and the sausage and clams were both toothsome- just as I want them. My boy had the cheeseburger which he said basically melted in his mouth (in a good way). Even the sandwich was about as good as a GF bread product can be. Just know that the NYC tourists are crowding the dining area and driving up the price, basically like all of Lancaster. read more

We were very disappointed in this place, to say the least.. I had the Fried Chicken Rice Bowl. The rice was extremely salty, the sauce was too overpowering, and the chicken didn't taste good. This fast-casual option in Kitchen Kettle Village is perfect for a light and quick lunch while shopping. This visit was during COVID (reopening phase green).The request was to get a new cup each time you wanted a refill from the soda fountain. All employees were wearing masks and the same was asked of patrons, and from what I could see, everyone complied. The tables were quite spread out and social distancing was never an issue. Staff was friendly from the counter to the food delivery. The menu is pretty basic-hot dogs, sandwiches, some salads, and burgers. I ordered the roasted turkey sandwich (house roasted turkey breast, cranberry mayo, aged Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, fresh baguette bread), which was served with a bag of kettle chips. The turkey was fresh carved, the bread was fresh but a bit hard to chew; however, I LOVED the cranberry mayo-it brought a nice tartness to the sandwich. My mom ordered the hot ham and cheese (Local ham, Cheddar cheese, Kitchen Kettle Raspberry Honey Mustard on a grilled Martin's Potato Roll). She said it was simple yet very satisfying and she really enjoyed the twist of the raspberry honey mustard. My son had the hot dog kid's meal that came with applesauce in a cute little dinosaur card box. I tried a bite when he refused to eat it, and I can confirm there was nothing wrong with it according to my palette, and I actually found it more fresh than most hot dogs, more unprocessed. This simple cafe offers some decent lunch options - deli sandwiches, soups, hot dogs, and burgers. Compared to some of the amazing food you'll find in the village, it will seem pretty basic, but it's satisfying enough to get you ready for more shopping. The cranberry chicken salad wrap I had was good, and my daughter devoured her burger. My husband has a gluten allergy and usually doesn't eat when we visit new places like Kitchen Kettle Village, but he was impressed when the woman at the counter offered him a gluten-free menu. He didn't sample any, but he was tempted by all the desserts in the glass case at the counter - the key lime and lemon curd pies looked especially delicious, but alas, none of them was gluten free. We managed to pass on the sweets here in order to indulge in some ice cream and hand-rolled soft pretzels later. Prices were about average. The dining area was clean, as were the condiment and drink stations in the back of the restaurant. There's plenty of seating inside to accommodate even large groups. read more

We took our granddaughter to the Harvest Cafe over the weekend to have breakfast with Santa. It was a fantastic experience for all of us! So let me start by saying that it isn't listed here but this place has a gluten free menu and a dedicated gluten free fryer for their french fries. It is so awesome to have that option here in Kitchen Kettle Village! Recently I attended one of Kitchen Kettle's holiday events: Breakfast with Santa. Although I think it was a cute event and I am glad we attended, the execution of the overall experience could use some improvements. First off while the receipt gave a very brief description there were aspects of the event we were not prepared for. Nor did it state specifically where to go inside the village. When I called the reservationist didn't even know herself and had to call someone else. The breakfast was buffet style and held in the Kettle Café. Although the food was good, and presented nicely it lacked bacon - a breakfast staple and given the number of people in attendance a second buffet table would have eased the flow. Each table was assigned and I especially liked the detail of our name printed neatly on a decorative Christmas paper as a welcome at each table. For the cost of nearly $15 pp I would have liked more breakfast options or more time to eat till satisfied. Each child was presented with a stocking that contained a small puzzle, stickers, 4 crayons, and small tablet. The café was very clean and decorated nicely for the holiday. The beverage display was festive and nicely arranged however only plastic mugs were provided, instead of glasses for the various juices. The staff was friendly, and cleared the tables as we ate but were not very informed. When I inquired about if a changing station was available in the rest room she didn't know. We were given about half an hour to obtain our breakfast and eat before Santa arrived. This was not nearly enough time given the line at the buffet. Santa briefly went around the room and did some picture ops for a few minutes, which we appreciated so we could quickly finish our meals. Soon after we were told to leave the warmth of the café to go "caroling" outside. There was a tree and Santa's chair set up in the corner so I assumed we would be coming back and he would sit for the children and additional photo ops. We were not prepared to go outside. The toddler in our party was dressed warm for a car ride from point a to point b but not for an extended period outside. We also had a very young infant also in our party in a carseat carrier without the stroller base. My husband, who likes to linger and savor several cups of coffee, offered to stay behind with our "baggage" and carrier only to be ushered outside as well so they could clean the cafe. Outside the entire crowd of about 100 people plus was shuttled to 3 businesses in the village to sing a carol and collect a "gift"; a candy cane, pencil, and gingerbread cookie were the "gifts". Not only was that not nearly enough room for a crowd of that size but it was poorly executed. Those "gifts" could have easily been enclosed in the stocking to eliminate the shuffling of the crowd from one area to another which was difficult to maneuver with small children in a space and crowd that size. There was also a small table set up to decorate your gingerbread cookie, which for obvious reasons we did not attempt. Overall this aspect of the event was a total fail. At the last station it was announced that Santa would meet with the children, and allow for photo ops - in the cold, brisk fall air on an outdoor bench. While we would have liked to have more time with Santa this was not the time/place and the crowd - a haphazard bunch and with no organization whatsoever toppled with the temperature was the deciding factor. I will say that the very brief encounter we had with Santa inside when he came to our table, was a pleasant experience and he was a "friendlier and more engaging " Santa than we are used to, our time with him was very limited. The chair setup inside the café would have been a more appropriate meet and greet with Santa and I don't know why the event planners instead choose to have him "greet" on an ordinary outdoor bench in the cold. Glad we went but hopefully this review gets the attention of those planning the event for next year and they rethink their current sequence of events. Based on that experience even knowing what to expect, I would not purchase tickets to this event again. read more
