I made a jalapeno and gruyere cheese omelette and it was fantastic. You know those sad, floppy hotel breakfasts where the eggs look like they've been steamed for three days straight? I ate here about 10 times while on business and staying at the Hyatt. Sometimes the food and service was outstanding. Sometimes the food was average. Breakfast: breakfast consists of either the continental buffet OR made to order meals like the standards. For $19 you can get "everything" including a made to order omelette. There's a wide variety of offerings, i just wish the food was a little hotter at the trough. The dinner was good -- decently priced -- the surprise was the PIZZA. Some of the pizzas are all time. Some are better than others - great dough made in house! Sometimes the service was very good, sometimes the service was very average or sub average. "Kanza" Burger. Burger with fried pork belly, over medium egg, buttered brioche bun, Bermuda onion, lettuce, tomato and house cured pickle with choice of cheese. (I got medium cooked burger, no pickle, no tomato with American cheese). Comes with fries. That was MAD BUSSIN. The fries were a bit salty and they still put a pickle in my to-go box, but I simply don't care. That burger was so good this get 5 stars. I just love eating here and always have. I worked at the Hyatt for 16 years (gone now for 3) never disappointed. I still say the steaks are the best in town-quality meat. The menus change each season and you won't find a better breakfast buffet. I can't get enough of the homemade yogurt and granola-they also have spiced peaches that are to die for!! It's a sad state of affairs when a hotel has better comprehension of what it wants to be than most other restaurants in the city, but welcome to Wichita, I guess. I learned about David Wirebaugh from his participation in the annual Iron Chef competitions that are held in Old Town. His bio places emphasis on fresh local ingredients, and he jars and pickles (and sells) vegetables for when they're not in season. This commitment to local and freshness is already more than can be said for most other restaurants in the area, and should be embraced by the city. Oh, I also ate there, too. It started with a charcuterie platter of a trio of sausages, parmesan crisps, and pickled onions, mustard seed, and raspberry chutney with which to explore. The pickled onions were stellar, and savory aspects of the chutney worked well with the sausage, though would have been more appropriate if some cheese was involved, and the mustard seed was not very good at all. I'm not sure if the sausages were made in-house or just locally procured, but either way you can't just go to Dillon's and pick up some landjaeger, so I enjoyed it. The main course was an excellently seared grouper sitting atop some giant stalks of asparagus and their specialty wild rice in an heirloom tomato broth. I'm very critical of a restaurant's ability to cook asparagus, and these were very nice indeed, boiled to cook and finished on the grill. I'm not normally too enthralled with wild rice, but this was cooked along with onion, a small amount of carrot, and a fair amount of farro, giving more heft to the side and providing a bit of nuttiness. The tomato broth worked to keep everything juicy and give a bit of tartness to accompany the lemon garnish. The one thing I wasn't completely happy about was my glass of Canvas Chardonnay, which had a lot of astringency in the front that wasn't particularly pleasant. Looking it up, I learned that the Canvas brand is made specifically for Hyatt hotels. I would recommend avoiding it. It's a little pricey, but Harvest's focus on fresh, local ingredients and skilled preparation makes this restaurant a go-to for a fine-dining experience in Wichita. I don't know why Chef Wirebaugh hasn't opened his own restaurant in the 28 years he's worked with Hyatt, but as long as the food's good, the location doesn't really matter. read more

We left our room to go down to Harvest Restaurant and bar in the Hyatt. Cannot recommend. There was no dedicated bartender, only servers who waited on tables, then would stop by the bar when and if they see a customer. After seeing all three servers come back to the bar with armloads of dirty dishware, we watched each one of them begin making drinks without washing their hands. This is in the Restaurant 101 handbook, even without Covid. Very gross and unprofessional. When I asked our server to wash her hands before making our drinks, she was offended. And speaking of nice, If you're starting to try and think of a place to take your loved one for Valentines Day, this would definitely be a safe bet and probably less crowded. A dimly lit and fashionably decorated atmosphere, I found myself surprised by how inviting and relaxing this hotel restaurant was. Before me is a mini mound of homemade garlic butter melting into a gooey puddle, ontop of a 12 oz natural fed KC strip steak that was cooked to juicy perfection, tender & very flavorful, my heart let loose a bass driven MOOOOoooo. Served on-top double baked redskin potatoes that were crispy, crunchy but yet moist and fluffy on the inside- I think I would come back here just for these alone. To the side was broccoli. Beautiful Broccoli. Flashed in a buttery skillet, I cant say I've ever tasted a better broccoli.. and yes I know that's something weird to say but its still worth saying. Our waiter was excellent and on point even though he appeared to be the only one serving the other tables with diners, but it was a late Sunday affair with the temperature dropping to near zero. When I recommend this place to friends, they cock their head to the side with a look of puzzlement, "You think I should eat dinner at the Hyatt?", they ask in disbelief. "Yes. I had to spend a couple of nights in Wichita for work, and my schedule was such that I ate breakfast and dinner at Harvest. Given that this is a hotel restaurant and in Wichita, I didn't exactly have high expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised. The variety of items at the breakfast buffet, as well as their quality, was impressive. Dinner was very nicely prepared, flavorful and (this is the most important part --) healthy! The portion sizes were very appropriate, and my entree choices (roasted chicken one night and a pasta/vegetable dish the next) were not laden with butter or salt. Everything tasted fresh. Moreover, the greeters and servers were always pleasant and friendly. They took the time to ask how my day was going and chatted briefly. Oh, and I really liked the decor, which was modern but not sterile. There are a number of booths around the periphery, and tables of all sizes towards the middle. So, if you have to be stuck in Wichita, at least you can come here to have a good meal. read more

I'm not sure that having a fine-dining restaurant in a hotel is as weird as it may sound. In fact, I know of a few other cities where candidates for best-in-city are hotel-bound, such as the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton in Atlanta. And imagine what goes on at one of those Vegas palaces, such as the Michael Mina restaurant in the Bellagio. The reasons a chef might want to set up shop in such an environment would include, foremost, not having to turn a profit to survive. Additionally, if you're in a nice hotel--the kind that would want a full-time chef--your clientele will largely consist of fairly expensive and/or sophisticated tastes. The upside for we locals is that we likely don't have to fear this place going under quickly like many more recent fine-dining options have. (What was the name of that one downtown that survived about a year in 2004? That was a good place...) and that because it's in a hotel, its hours are more convenient than some other establishments. The downsides include that it's a bit difficult to find, it is frequently empty or nearly-empty, and it is kind of expensive. On my recent experience the ambience and restaurant design were excellent, the service professional, and the food was mostly very good. Steaks were among the city's best. The menu has some creative entrees, too, such as the bruschetta-stuffed artichoke and grilled watermelon salad. Unfortunately, though, the menu also features a lot of standbys, some that an establishment like this should really not trifle with, I think (spinach and artichoke dip, for example). The entrees are primarily predictable fine-dining fare--steaks, a couple of pasta dishes, the ubiquitous roasted half-chicken, a few encrusted fish-type things with the typical trout/salmon lineup (what, no tilapia?). These less creative aspects of the menu strike me as a bit of corner-cutting, frankly. To wit, you get frozen (not fresh-cut) french fries, and no truffle oil or parmesan to be found, with the $26 sirloin. So much of the food is nicely nuanced--wheat berries added to the basic house salad give it the right kind of twist for Harvest's theme and ethos--but I found the cut corners to be a few too numerous to offer up five stars. Still, we need more places like this and I would eagerly return. The ambience and overall professionalism were there with the best in town and it gives the ICT a good impression on a traveller. Just don't anyone let on to them that this is one of our best, though, ok? read more

There were NO roasted tomatoes, instead only sliced cherry tomatoes, with no explanation from the waitress in regards to this disappointing substitution, then a manager came by and ask "How was my dish" and of course, I said, "These are not your signature roasted tomatoes" she checked and then told me they were not available, UGH! It was a Friday night, I was staying there at the Hyatt, it was approx. 8:00 p.m......They should not be out of the signature item. Also, the shrimp were over-cooked and rubbery. The whole-wheat penne with spinach, tomatoes, peppers, and chicken with freshly shaved parmesan was pretty good. I ate here while I was staying in the hotel. I wavered quite a bit between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. It's a battle between the quality of the food and the value for what you get. The minestrone soup was amazing, but at $7, rather overpriced. The fresh baked rosemary and olive bread was also very delicious. The duck breast was appropriately priced at $25, but it wasn't a incredible eating experience. It was served over calypso beans with bacon and spinach, and the mixture was rather dry and not very flavorful, and it didn't seem to compliment the duck too well. Also, when I sat down I was given the option between bottled water and tap, and I hate paying for water, so I chose tap. However, the tap water smelled distinctly of fish. Not very pleasant at all. I can be stubborn about silly things, so I still didn't buy the bottled water, but I was thirsty by the end of the meal. It was a very decent meal, not overwhelmingly great, but certainly not bad either. I feel comfortable with my 3 star decision. read more

Traveling from Tulsa to Wichita for the night .. We totally relied on yelp to guide us . We were pleased with the vegan options this restaurant had for us and the waitress was incredibly helpful with the menu and our dietary restrictions . The restaurant has a great atmosphere and I love the open kitchen concept . We shared a spinach salad which was a great portion for two to start . I ordered the chili tofu and was a tad unimpressed . A big block of tofu ( really ) was sitting on-top of a bed of rice and veggies covered in chili sauce . The dish lacked flavor and was definitely not appealing to look at . Lin got the vegan ratatouille and I thought it had great flavor ! The mushrooms were delightful . My only change would be less onions . The onions overpowered the other veggies . So.... Harvest Kitchen and Bar. I'm having a hard time deciding on how many stars to give this restaurant. Since there's no 2.5, I guess I'm gonna round up to 3. Actually, I am going with 4 after re-reading my review and thinking about it. Here is what happened: Our server took our order and gave us the daily specials. The had a smoked ribeye steak that sounded pretty good, so 2 of us ordered that. Th third person in our party ordered a filet. We ordered a crab cake and some stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. Both the apps were very tasty. When our steaks arrived, the filet was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The ribeyes, on the other hand, were ordered medium rare and came out medium well to well done. If the steak had been just a bit overcooked, I would have let it go, but these were pretty well gone. Our took the overdone steaks and promised to have the re-cooked. A few minutes later, he returned to inform us that they only had one smoked ribeye left, and would we like to substitute something else for one or both steaks. I took the remaining smoked ribeye, and the other diner at the table substituted a filet. When our replacement steaks came out, the filet was cooked to a dead on medium rare, and my filet was again overcooked. This time it was just a little overcooked, and I wasn't going to wait on yet another steak, so went with it. Unfortunately, the smoked ribeye was REALLY smoked. I love BBQ and smokey foods, but this was way over the top. I managed to eat about a quarter of it and then just gave up. The server noticed that I was done with the plate but still had most oof the steak there and offered to have a different steak cooked for me. I declined. Here is why I decided to go with 4 stars. Clearly the kitchen was having problems with the special and I ended up leaving without really ever eating an entree. (I did eat the vegetables that came with the steak) What earned them four stars was the staff's effort to correct the problem and the other items we ordered. Everything but the ribeye steaks was very good. The staff really tried to fix the problems. We were not charged for either of the smoked ribeye meals, and they bought us a dessert to make up for the problems. Actually, I think they offer us each a dessert, but we all shared one. So.... while there were many problems with our visit, I am absolutely satisfied with everything we paid for, and their efforts to fix the problems will give me a reason to try them again. read more

They even met our requests for custom items such as waffles and freshly squeezed orange juice. However, we were unimpressed by their lunch/dinner options. They don't have a vegetarian-friendly menu, considering that they are in a hotel catering to guests with varied dietary restrictions. We tried their bean dip appetizer which was one of the few veg-friendly items, and it tasted quite bland.
