Good luck to your customers! I hope they won't be ticketed! I gave Harvest Moon a suggestion to put a large sign at the end of their wrought iron fence to warn customers. One of their employees told me that's a good idea. The owner claims they have, but signs get stolen (I can't see why, unless they're not secured to the fence). She also said one of their employees warned me & that is NOT true! I wish they had verbally warned me! Yes, there's a small sign on their hostess stand that is not obvious or highly visible. Once people are standing by the hostess stand, no one can see it. To say "for 28 years there has not been parking for customers next to the restaurant" does not help new or out of town customers. The point is this...The business knows there's a problem! They really DON't care! Otherwise, they'd take responsibility & do more to warn their customers, instead of blaming them. read more

The one star is for the delicious, quality food. Good luck getting it in a timely manner though! The service here has been bad for years. When new owners took over, I was hopeful it would be better. It's not at all. I recently stopped in for a salad by myself, on a Saturday after the lunch hour. It was 1:30 and looked pretty slow. I went in and asked if I could grab a menu and sit outside. The man said sure. I seated myself outside on the front patio and waited for over 30 minutes to even be acknowledged. Two younger women waitresses were working the patio and both of them blatantly ignored me the entire 30 minutes. Wouldn't even make eye contact with me. Just walked by me multiple times, saying nothing. So for 30 minutes I sat at a table with my menu and no water, being ignored! Just as I decided I had had enough and started to get up and leave, the man that originally gave me the menu inside, came out and said to me in a shocked voice "No one has helped you yet?" I said no and thanked him for noticing. He apologized, grabbed me a water, took my Neil's Toss order, and had it out to me in 5 minutes. The salad was delicious! After I got my food, I heard the waitresses talking and one saying she thought the other one was taking me and the other one replied and said "well I thought you were handling her." What's frustrating about this is that no matter who was responsible for serving me, it was evident that I wasn't being helped for over 30 minutes and neither one of them cared enough to stop and ask! Food was good, smells great, and it was delicious.. And they have a full Bar! The host/owner, Jessie, however was rude and not customer service oriented. She appeared to be flustered and moving very fast! We came with a stroller and the host offered no support to place stroller elsewhere to not be in the way of the adjoining tables. Instead she stated, "you need to do something with that, I have to seat people here!" On the other hand, the restaurant manager, Kenny, was excellent and has polished customer service skills. He is a big reason we didn't walk out! First time there, the burger I ordered was big but I told the server specifically not to have seasoned fries... I received seasoned fries, when I told this server they seemed annoyed, took my plate, in the mean time my friend patiently waited to eat their meal so we could eat together, by the time my fries ( which were correct but 1/2 the size portion ) arrived my friends meal was cold , so..... we got up and walked out. Crab & Shrimp Loui Salad The most popular menu items here are the Crab Sandwich and the Crab Toss Salad. I always order the Crab sandwich when I come here. Good sandwich by the way.. However I ordered the Crab & Shrimp Loui Salad today only because every time I see people eating Crab Salads THE PORTIONS ARE VERY GENEROUS BUT THATS ONLY WHEN YOU DINE INSIDE THE RESTAURANT. If you order for takeout you will be setting yourself up for a possible disappointment. I payed $26.96 on Friday May 28th 2021 for the Crab & Shrimp Loui Salid (takeout) . My salad had zero traces of crab and exactly 8 medium size grilled prawns, 1 boiled egg, tossed in thousand island dressing. After driving away to discover that my plate was missing the most expensive and (MainIngredient) I called to speak to The Owner / Operator who goes by Jess. After speaking with her she told me to come back to the restaurant so she could fix everything for me. It took me 15 to 20 minutes to get back to the restaurant and she was nowhere to be found. The staff told me that she had left for the day and that they were informed that my plate was shorted on Crab. I re-explained that I never got shorted on crab because my plate had no crab at all. They took my (takeout) bag back to the kitchen, it was returned to me with an apology. At this point it was my fault for walking out and not quality checking and questioning the bag's missing items before leaving. By the time I got back home I discovered that they forgot to put back my bread and butter rolls that I was looking forward to, and my corrected plate had a small handful of crab sprinkled on top of my shrimp and lettuce. This is my 2nd bad experience in the same week with two of what thought where my favorite places to eat at in Modesto. My 2nd favorite place was The Sticky Rice Restaurant on Hatch Road Modesto Ca 95351. The heartbreaking part is.. The salad was a huge pile of lettuce with about 3 olives, very little feta and a few onions. The chicken amounted to about 2 tablespoons worth. And to top it off, it was on a plate, not in a bowl. And this plate was not large enough to hold the salad. It was ridiculous. After all of that, the waitress never did come back to get our check. We had to go to the front and flag someone down. Harvest Moon makes the absolute BEST crab sandwich I've ever had! It's loaded with crab and has cheese, avacado, and bacon (however, I always order mine without the bacon so I can really taste the crab!). I was really worried that the new owners would eliminate the crab sandwich - and was relieved to learn that they still have it. It's about the only thing I ever order there because it's so good and I can't get anything comparable anywhere else. Their fries are amazing, too! You can get regular, garlic, or sweet potato fries - all delicious! The service is great, too! Harvest Moon has always been a solid "go-to" for Modesto dining. It is wonderful to see the traditional great food and top-notch service remains a constant. Several days ago, my husband and I had a fantastic lunch with their unparalleled burgers. When Sunday morning rolled around with a hankering for eggs, potatoes, and biscuits, Harvest Moon was too tempting to pass up. LOVED the veggie scramble and my husband was in keto-heaven with the bacon, ham and gouda cheese omelet. I came here couple of Sundays ago to have brunch and waited a good hour to get my burnt French toast. The gentlemen who I assume is the owner doesn't care to apologize or make any effort to smooth the hassle of staff and upset customers. I love supporting small businesses because of the customer service and quality of food but this owner is a jerk. Today, I came in for lunch. Yes, service was on point and food came out at a timely manner. But, seriously the "owner" seems like he is mad at the world. Showing no manners as to say, "thank you, or have a good day as we walk in or walkout after consuming." I'm not asking him to bend over backwards but if the owner can't show some sort of respect and courtesy to customers I'll be taking my money elsewhere. The first time we tried Harvest Moon was a couple of months ago when they were out of Crab. We still loved the food and enjoyed the atmosphere. We've been back 3 times since and absolutely love it! We have a handicapped son in a wheelchair and have found that the staff and owner couldn't be more accommodating. And, now that we've eaten the Crab, I crave the food. HARVEST MOON "HATES THE HANDICAP WHILE BLINDLY PURSUING PROFITS, TRAMPLING CIVIL RIGHTS, AND SPITS ON COMMON HUMAN DECENCY"! I went into the place at about 11:45 to make sure, I could get a nice table before the lunch rush. The manager at the time, claimed that even though the restaurant was half empty, all single people had to sit at the bar on a high very uncomfortable bar stool. I explained that I needed to sit at a regular sit down chair and table because of a "bad back". He COLDY insisted that he could not do anything for me and REFUSED to seat me. He claimed that he did not want to turn potential customers away when more couples showed up, and that they were a small business. Since I have never even heard of something so unfair, petty, and cruel at a restaurant before, I tried to point out a rather unassuming crappy table that could barely fit two, in a pathetic attempt to eat here. Once again, this "PETTY IGNORANT DICTATOR" flatly stated, that I had to sit in the hard, high, & uncomfortable barstool, since that was their "policy" for single people. Frankly, I was obviously not getting anywhere with this "CHAIR NAZI" ,so I gave up. I then reluctantly limped three blocks, with my aching back and right leg, to another place for lunch, and had a burger elsewhere. Unfortunately, I had found a coveted parking spot right near Harvest Moon restaurant, that I did not want to give up, and again I had to walk. Approximately at 12:35, I again entered this restaurant, for two reasons, first, to see how many people would have been turned away, and second, to inform this manager (and I believe an owner) that he was discriminating against the handicap. I immediate saw at least three totally empty tables, and I was the only one at the check-in area! The manager came out again and stated that I was now in luck and I could have a table and a regular chair now, BUT NO APOLOGY WAS OFFERED! (THAT IS A FINE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT! WHAT IS THEIR MOTTO? IS IT, "GOOD WILL TOWARD NO MEN, ONLY CASH"!) I proceeded to tell him that I now did not need a seat now since I had already eaten, I was indeed handicapped and, he had no right to violate my civil rights before. At first, he again insisted that he was a small business and that he understood back pain, because he had it too! I stuck to my guns, maintained my composure, and stared him straight in the eye. I calmly told him that he was absolutely wrong, that not did he not share my handicap, SINCE I HAD A SPINAL CORD INJURY, that he was also most likely in violation of my civil rights (and was not ADA compliant). He finally backed down and said, "I'm sorry" without any apparent conviction...as I walked out again WHILE SHAKING MY HEAD IN UTTER DISGUST. Their three empty tables would remain DEVOID of people and PROFIT for now. I had eaten here before, when I worked close by, several years ago. At that time, I felt the food was below average (& OVERRATED), and it was NOISY, CRAMPED, RUN-DOWN, A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD, AND TOO CROWDED. I never returned back then. Since I have been Yelping, I decided it would be useful to try Harvest Moon again. I felt that it was again, cramped, noisy, and not a place to unwind. There are other comments on the net and Yelp reviews that deal with the management/owners of this place, that are congruent with my experience. ANY PLACE THAT CARES SO LITTLE ABOUT BASIC CIVILIZED BEHAVIOR AND THE NEEDS OF THE HANDICAP, CANNOT BE TRUSTED WITH NEITHER PREPARING MY FOOD, NOR HANDLING MY CREDIT CARD, AND DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE IN BUSINESS, IN THIS GREAT COUNTRY OF OURS. I WOULD URGE YOU TO EITHER LET THIS OWNER KNOW THAT THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR, OR TO SIMPLY BOYCOTT THIS PLACE OUT OF PRINCIPLE. Harvest Moon is one of those local restaurants that has a little bit of something for everyone. Meat? Check. Seafood? Yep. Pasta? You betcha! They also have some tasty sandwiches and salads. My favorite salad is the one with grilled shrimp. So yummy. Just give me one of those salads and I'm a happy girl. I'm even happier with some of those sweet potato fries too. Probably one of the more Unique Modesto Eats. Perfect for a date or lunch but not for large parties. Went there for a family function (granted without a reservation) and they could not accommodate our party of 15. We had to be split up into 3 tables. I ordered the Crawfish something- was marked as one of their Specialty Entrees. I had one bite and.... was completely over it. Everyone else seemed less than excited about their meals as well. My brother ordered some hamburger, ate it all, and received a pretty tight trucker hat as a prize. Also the Sweet Potato Fries are totally worth ordering. I do remember the food being more 'fierce' in my younger days, probably over 10 years ago... yikes I'm old :( read more
