This place is awesome! Firstly - best sweet potato fries ANYWHERE! Always served piping hot! Their breakfasts are amazing & the salads are huge, fresh & delicious! Oh and the sandwiches can't be beat. Hubby loves the french dip & he is the pickiest man on earth. Only problem is that I live far away! If you're in downtown Modesto from 11-3 go to Harvest Moon. First time in the restaurant since the new owners took over. Grabbed lunch with my wife and we both were happy with the food. I had the Blue Cheese burger and it was very good. My wife enjoyed her Buffalo Chicken sandwich. Fries are very good. Only problem I have ever had with Harvest Moon is the seating. You can get stuck eating really close to others. Three of us went there at 1:30 pm this Sunday. We were visiting from the East Bay and were hungry and needed AC. Even though it seemed busy, we were seated in minutes. We noticed a family celebrating with their little girls seated next to us. They seemed to have been there before. I ordered grilled prawns as an appetizer to share. We all agreed they were pretty good with a mild spicy flavor. My crab sandwich came in two halves that were so thick. It was good, fresh and flavorful. The fries had this distinctive batter that made them extra tasty as everyone agreed. Our waitress was Honesty (I think) and she checked on us regularly and made sure our drinks were refilled. There was a small bar that look like it could be fun during happy hour. The cocktails on the menu looked good but we didn't try any. Definitely a very good fine. read more

Service for pick up was terrible. I asked for extra ranch and the lady acted like it was coming out of her pocket. She had a lot of attitude and said she gave me more than she should have, that it was already in the bag. Once I opened the bag, there was only one side of ranch for a large order. I would have been happy to pay for extra condiments. I was not given that option. There is no reason for the attitude. read more

Quaint and cute! The chef has some sauce experience. The dressings and pasta sauce have a grandma homemade flavor that makes your experience nostalgic. We started with a couple of drinks (great flavor) that the mixologist created with proficiency. Our taste buds danced to Cajun style shrimp (yep, just a seasoning) with ranch limon sauce that had this appetizer, FIRE! We concluded with a Neal's Salad (overflowing) and my cajun pasta (incredible flavor on the sauce, WOW!). Come check it out. Be prepared to spare no expense for your experience. I recently had lunch at Harvest Moon . Although the food was good - the service was bad! There was no one greeting us at the counter - we stood there & other people stood in line behind us -all waiting for someone to take our names , or seat us at the empty tables . Meanwhile, several restaurant staff walked by it was all so unorganized . Then, we get seated at a table , but there we sat for quite awhile because the wait staff does not pay attention , none of the staff seemed to know what tables they are responsible for when it comes to service : ordering beverages- ordering our food - follow up to see if we need beverage refills etc. It took so long to get our beverages & lunch because no one was doing their job . I will spend my money at another restaurant where both the food & service are good! read more

This was my third visit and will be my last. I ordered the Blue Moon burger and specified "medium" for the burger. What I received was a bun sopped in blood and so much blue cheese sauce that I couldn't figure out how to eat it. I finally asked the waitress for another plate so I could put the top bun, meat and bacon down without it all turning into a soggy mess. I ate half of the top half of the burger and some fries. The fries were nice, hence the second star.. The burger, just gross. read more

"Harvest Moon" is a lovely tune sung by Neil Young. If you've never heard this unforgettable melody give it a listen. Harvest Moon is also the name of this downtown Modesto establishment. Visited on a week day before noon. The vibe you get is relaxed as you walk in and host person was friendly. We were seated quickly and with ease. Given the environment, confident menu offerings and reviews I was hoping to add HM to my list of go to breakfast dining. Food was meh. Pancakes were dry and thin. Potatoes were over cooked and flavorless. We also ordered a huge side of garlic with some fries in but they call them garlic fries. Table service was mediocre and an empty coffee cup during a breakfast meal is not a good mark of service Love the environment and location but food was just not that great and prices were high so I was expecting the whole package. In response to owner: No we did not bring it up as we didn't have the time at the moment to address the many shortcomings we experienced. My review is feedback for your establishment. Putting it back on me as the customer for not speaking up about it at the exact moment doesn't seem to go well for me either. Thank you for your concern though and your reaching out. read more

I am honestly surprised that Harvest Moon doesn't have an overall better rating! I love this place! Great for breakfast, brunch, or date day! The food is comfort food and sooo good! I love their Gorilla Cheese sandwich, crab toss salad, the crab roll, and above all... their garlic fries! I also enjoy their cocktails and pitchers of mimosas. I've now come here maybe six times, and am still confident these folks know what they are doing. The food is always delicious and service is outstanding. My wife has had a couple items not as good as what I've ordered, and a friend of mine once got a steak that had about double the amount of salt that it should have, but I haven't had anything less than a fantastic meal. I am not a great cook, and it seems like many restaurants in Modesto hired chefs who are worse cooks than me. Harvest Moon is one of the half dozen restaurants I have found that defy that trend. The cooks put out attractive food that is consistent and delicious. My favorite item is still the crab toss. Just a super generous amount of crab mixed into a salad in perfect harmony. What a find!!!! We ordered the crab cake Benedict with garlic fries and the crab Louie salad. Every bite was delicious and full of flavor. The mimosas were excellent, more bubbly than juice! We really appreciated the customer service from our service, she was a sweetheart. At the end of our meal, our server brought us a complimentary slice of cheesecake that was delicious!! If I could give this place zero stars I would. First off, I walk in and the hostess was busy chatting with coworkers. She did make eye contact with our group at one point but continued with her conversation. After 8 minutes (yes, i counted) She made her way over to us. No smile, no welcome, just walked us to our table. Our table looked like it had barely been cleaned as there were still crumbs everywhere so our group wiped the table off with our own antibacterial wipes that we had. Our server was nice but when our food came, some old residue of food prior to us, like ketchup was on the plate. My glass also had lipstick on it. When i told our server, they responded "oh yeah... our dish washer doesn't always pick everything up." They did not offer a replacement meal, or at the least a clean plate. If you want to be treated like a human being and feel safe about eating food, steer clear from this place! read more

Amazing service and delicious fresh food! The ambience is elevated casual. I arrived after church to meet some friends and was greeted by the friendly owner Jessie. We enjoyed the sampler appetizer with fresh shrimp skewers, grilled chicken thigh skewers, and a generous portion of garlic fries. Also ordered the bruschetta appetizer, it was a large portion and was so tasty. Highly recommend both appetizers. I ordered the chicken sandwich served on ciabatta bread. The bread tasted like it was baked that morning. Everything was presented beautifully, tasted fresh, and has me craving more. Looking forward to returning and trying the rest of the menu. I will preface by saying I love the food at Harvest Moon. Today I went an hour prior to closing (3pm Sunday) and was seated right away. Hostess was super nice, as always. I sat near the bar (probably my mistake) but one of their off work employees was in the bar and she was terrible. She was yelling about selling marijuana, every other word out her mouth was F$&@ or similar. She was yelling about her dog defecating in her home etc etc and how hot some "non binary" person is...The bar tender was our server and was too busy talking to the drunk employee, or ex-employee (whatever she was) and I waited for the check so long it was past closing time. I got up and paid my own tab at the front and got my own boxes. Terrible experience. If I had my young children I would have left after a few minutes... Update. I'm now getting threatening messages from the woman I was speaking about due to my review. I don't believe she's an employee. I was passing through Modesto because I was going to Sacramento and needed a bite to eat. I chose this place because I was craving a sandwich. I got the the buffalo chicken sandwich and it was so good. I got it with the pasta salad and I ate everything. I got a lemonade and I sat outside, the customer service was amazing. My waiter got me my utensils, refills, and everything I asked for. It's a nice place for a lunch date. It is on the expensive side but it's worth it because everything is made from scratch. read more
