I ordered my usual Kaiserschmarrn and a drink. I had noticed that the table next to me had a drink that looked good, so when the waitress took my order, I specifically told her that I wanted the same drink the table next to me was having. When my order arrived, it was brought by a different waitress. The drink looked completely different from what I had pointed to, so I asked her what it was. She told me it was a double espresso. I explained that I had not ordered a double espresso and again pointed to the drink at the table next to me, which was clearly a hot chocolate. The waitress then called over the waitress who had originally taken my order. Instead of simply acknowledging that there had been a misunderstanding, she insisted, "That's what you ordered." When I explained again that it wasn't, she told me, "It's the same thing." A **double espresso and a hot chocolate are obviously not the same thing.** What bothered me even more than the incorrect order was the way both waitresses spoke to me. Their attitudes and tone were extremely rude, dismissive, and demeaning--as though I was stupid for pointing out the obvious mistake. The interaction became uncomfortable enough that people sitting at other tables were looking over at us. To make matters worse, my Kaiserschmarrn was **cold**. It tasted as though it had already been sitting out for some time before it was brought to my table. I understand that mistakes happen. Had they simply apologized for the misunderstanding and corrected the drink, I would not have had an issue. Instead, I was argued with and spoken down to over something that could have been resolved in seconds. This was genuinely one of the worst customer-service experiences I have ever had at a restaurant, and certainly not what I expected from an establishment with Demel's reputation. After several previous visits that I enjoyed, it is extremely disappointing to say that I will not return and will no longer recommend Demel to my friends.

my review has been hid, which i don't understand. can owner hidden reviews? trying again now! the owner really likes talking to guests, a lot! the buffet of brunch is nice but nothing is fresh. all of it taste of the freezer, like was frozen. you look around in Vienna, you get better quality cheaper everywhere. there is chewing gum under the tables and the place views like an exploded bomb in the middle of the establishment. The biggest insult: coffee is acidic and "organic tea" is not organic at all, they left the "Spar Budget" tea box on the bar. owner said it was for making the lemonade, but that is still very cheapest product you can buy, like moins cher read more

The next course contained wild broccoli with sweet potato chips and grapes. The outside seating was visibly dirty, and our table had a serving tray left on it that was later removed my a staff member who was wearing visibly dirty clothes and was quite intrusive - probably not a front-of-house staff, but those people shouldn't have customer contact for exactly that reason. Worst thing was the actual drinks, though. I had a simple lemon soda, and while I am aware that ice cubes are not super common in Europe, it was decidedly ROOM TEMPERATURE when served. You cannot do this. Serving a lemonade at room temperature in the summer is an insult to a paying customer. When I complained, I was brought another drink later by a decidedly annoyed staffer who remarked "well maybe THIS is more to your liking then" as if I had been the one wronged here. Needless to say this drink was ALSO not cold, but came with a separate glass of ice cubes "just in case you want it colder" (actual quote from the staff). Considering they amounted to a veritable thimbleful for a half-liter glass that did not do much. I can't comprehensively review a place I only ordered one drink at, but if you serve a room-temperature lemonade and then give customers attitude for not appreciating that, I think that says enough about a restaurant to never, ever set foot in there again. And tell others not to do it, either.
