If you can get past the uninviting entrance and smudged windows on the door, you will discover a great little restaurant that well deserves their four (4) star review. My waitress was lovely and very accommodating. I don't remember if she had tattoos or not and I couldn't care less. She was Puerto Rican from Humboldt Park in Chicago as I'm familiar with the area too. We hit it off well, I was quite happy with my waitress. Harvey's is a long established business that goes back to the days when Hohman Ave on Hammond's Southside was a booming place. I hope little independent businesses like Harvey's helps rekindle and revitalize Downtown Hammond. Ahh the food! It was great! Ample portions, real ham off the bone, coffee refills and the privilege of dining in a vintage restaurant. Working class, multi-ethnic patrons, walk in and feel right at home. This is not a chain restaurant. Very pleased! Keep up the good work! Success! I'll be back! P.S. Clean up that entrance and you've earned a fifth star!

Very friendly. Lives by rule I will meet you where you are. Miss Mary is a kink soul in the restaurant buisness which in its self is very difficult. Food portions to price are right on! Great place to get togo as well. A real modern day Mom and Pop restaurant.

Food and service was incredible! I ordered a hot coffee and hash browns to go along with a bacon burger and I can say it was incredible. The location of the restaurant may be offputting, since it appears to be in a bad neighborhood, and the location seems old and run down, but I can assure you the outside does not affect the food at all. A little teenage kid (I think he was the owners son) served me and he was very polite and had great manners. Constantly checking up on me to make sure everything was okay. Food was really good and service was top tier. Must come again location.

When you are in need of an awesome breakfast and a relaxing atmosphere, this is the place for you. Don't be afraid by the vintage ascetic the food is extremely good and will hit the spot. While waiting for your food to come up you will be able to take in the charm by playing the photo trivia, just ask your friendly server for the Q&A sheet. The tunes are supplied by a vintage stereo that is cranking out bangers at all times. Time will cease to exist while dining here.

I ordered a Mexican skillet to go got home and it was no hot peppers in it. I have been going here for over 20 years so when I called they said they would give me s discount on my next visit. I didn't go back that day because it was pouring down raining. I called today and they said they didn't have my name and the manager was not there and she could not even give me the managers name or let me talk to someone else . read more

So in business I'm never one to believe the customer is ALWAYS right, but I do believe if you aren't happy, take your money else where. This morning I decided to get breakfast at a place my family frequents often, but usually on weekends. As I'm placing my order the waitress tells me she can not make the substitutions I asked (I order the same thing every time). She says she can't sub hash browns for eggs (if you know me you know why I can't do eggs) & can't sub French toast for pancakes. ( fuck you mean) All my responses were calm monotone. My response was "well they do it all the other times I've come here & why can't you sub hash browns for eggs? Hash browns cost less in bulk.Im saving you money." The waitress says "no hash browns are 1.99" (I don't think she understood what I was saying.) She then goes and ask the cook. He says no substitutions at all. (The place is small. So I hear him & can see him) she comes back and says "he says no substitutions so... " then adds "oh and he is the owner." I stated "oh he is? Ok." Stood up & just left. Moral of the story is not the customer is always right but that if you don't value your loyal customers (we go here at least 3 times a month), they don't owe you loyalty. I felt bad for the college student that we always have as a waitress on weekends (I believe we tip pretty well) but I won't be coming back. Needless to say, I'm now at IHOP. Then my omelette the cheese wasn't fully mixed into the eggs so 3/4 of the eggs had no cheese and then I had a clump of cheese at the end. And the worst was the salad it had a hair in it and bad cucumbers. I get it mistakes happen and stuff so we decided to ask for refunds for the salad and Alfredo since those were inedible and they said they can give us new food or store credit. Honestly I don't ever want to eat there again with that poor customer service to not issue a refund when they made the mistakes. That's just bad management.

My favorite salad is the taco salad which has perfectly seasoned walnut meat as it's protein. The vegetables include lettuce, bell pepper, tomato, mango salsa, avocado and olives. The Yogi bowl is my second favorite, which is made of portobello mushrooms, quinoa and kale. There is a wonderful dressing to top it off. You can also ask that it be heated...OMG!!! Delicious! Eating healthy with the freshest ingredients is available here. The place has expanded into the building next door to meet the needs of the demands of its very loyal customer base. Designated parking is available in the lot next to the restaurant which is definitely convenient for the customer! Thank you! Didn't have to wait long to sit down. Interestingly, there are quite a few booths with "decorations" on it, very cool for sure (Who doesn't like the Three Stooges and Lucy & Desi!?!), however they limit access to sitting in those areas, which is unfortunate because the booths have the best lighting compared to center of the room tables.
