    Mushroom Risotto

We came here on recommendation from a friend who has lived here for 20+ years. She said to sit in the bar area to eat food. Since we were starving we ordered 3 appetizers to share. All of the food was delicious! Escargot: It is in the shell and they give you the tongs to hold them and take out the meat. The sauce was nice and garlicky like it should be! Octopus: It was prepared very well. The different sauces on the bottom complimented it well as did the well seasoned and cooked shrimp that came on it! Really enjoyed it! Mushroom Risotto: The poached egg on top added a nice extra creamy and savory note. The sauce was perfect and not too salty. I really enjoyed it! (The one vegetable I do not like is peas, there were quite a few but it did not distract from the taste and my boyfriend who loves them really enjoyed it) Bread: Really tasty and they baked garlic cloves into it. That made it perfect to use if the sauce from the escargot! Service: Very good! The food came fast and they were all very friendly!

    The escargot was perfect!

We went with our two kids to celebrate my birthday. All of our food was excellent. The service was second to none, and they were beyond friendly with our children, which was so nice. Small menu, but every item was perfect. They also offered kid options that were off menu. Amazing wine selection. At the end of the night they had stuffed my kids coat pockets with Halloween candy (after having asked me). What a fun surprise for the kids.

We had Harwigs cater our wedding of 70 people at Perry Mansfield in Steamboat and I could not have asked for a more perfect restaurant to do so! Not only was the food absolutely incredible, the staff were all amazing, caring, and hardworking people. I also had a great experience working with the chef, JJ in the planning process. I highly recommend them for catering needs, or just a nice dinner out in Steamboat!

Harwigs has always been our favorite. The incredible food, amazing wine selection, welcoming staff and private dining room are epic. The best French onion soup in the world. Such a great experience for special occasions. Highly recommend gem in Steamboat!

    Langoatina gnocchi! Awesome!

AWESOME! I went her for a special dinner with my dad. We had a FABULOUS meal and a GREAT time. Awesome Bordeaux wines. Don't bother with the super expensive ones either. The lower priced ones must have been very carefully selected because they were ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! I love love love good Bordeaux wines too! Lagostina gnocchi was embarrassingly licking the sauce up of the plate delicious. The fish I had was cooked to perfection - my dad's said his lamb chops were great. Heirloom tomato salad = must try. How do they even get such good tomatoes in Steamboat in the dead of winter? Actually, scratch that. Who cares? Just order them! Not a morsel of food or a drop of sauce left on our plates. Harwigs isn't inexpensive but well worth the money for a special dinner or if you are in the mood for some bomb ass French food! And if you are skiing on a vacation what's an extra hundo? That's the cost of ONE lift ticket on the mountain. And you worked hard skiing in the champagne powder. You deserve it.

We were seated right away with no reservation (on a Tuesday evening around 7:30 pm); I imagine reservations probably come in handy. We started with a bottle of wine - the wine list had a wide range of bottles priced lower to your more expensive bottle; we chose one in the middle range (super Tuscan) and it was very tasty. Reviews on food: Calamari: I really enjoyed the calamari! It was lightly battered but had just enough crunch. The flavor was great. They even had lemon wedges and pepperoncini fried in with the calamari which I loved. Cesar salad: I forgot to snag a picture of the salad, and it also happened to be my least favorite item we ordered. The dressing was overly sweet for my liking and did not have your standard Cesar flavoring. I wish I would have asked more about the dressing to understand it a little better. I probably would not order this salad again. Eggplant parmigiano: this was sooooo good! The eggplant was breaded and cooked perfectly. I could have just eaten the eggplant it was so tasty. Highly recommend!! Tagliatelle bolognese: I am a huge sucker for bolognese, so I usually judge this sauce pretty tough. This. Was. De. Licious!!! The meat sauce was full of flavors and the noodles were cooked perfectly. I was impressed! Butterscotch budino: perfect way to end our meal. I'm a huge fan of butterscotch flavored desserts and this did not disappoint. It was light and not too heavy after a meal of pasta. The thick layer caramel on top was delicious. The portions were big in my opinion, so while prices were a little high, I thought we got our moneys worth of food. Our server (and others that came to the table) were all super kind and helpful. It does get very loud in the restaurant, so had the weather been nice enough to eat outside, I probably would have chose the patio seating. Overall this was a great meal! 5 starts for the scrumptious food, portion size, and service.

We ended up splitting some soups (get the tomato crab), the beet salad, and the Market Fish (salmon) on a bed of cous cous and red cabbage. It was very nice that they split all the dishes for us. Small restaurant that has been around since the 1990s. My partner enjoyed his sommeliers choice wine Complementary bread (2 small pieces) with olive oil and olives. Pretty good Tomato and crab bisque (shared) was super rich creamy and delicious The duck breast was meh for me. Meat was fine but the rest of it all together was off The venison short loin (red elk) was amazing. It was cooked perfectly- rare to medium rare. Mashed potatoes were good. Asparagus was just ok Crème brûlée was also super delicious. The vanilla bean inside was great We were ready to come back on our last night to order the venison again before we drove back home 3 hours bc the food was so good My biggest complaint and why I dropped two stars were the services. the server was super nice and attentive at the start. But once we finished the entree, he spent most of the time chatting with the table across from us. We heard the whole convo as we were waiting for him to remove our plates and bring us the dessert menu. It was 8pm and he only had two tables left: Our table and the other table. He chatted with the other table about furbo and ring cameras for their pets for a very long time. Maybe ten minutes later he took our plate and said he'd bring the dessert menu. Then he brought them wine , chatted with them for a bit about growing up in steamboat and the neighbors and then he eventually brought our dessert menu. Then while we were eating dessert, chatted with them for another good 20 minutes without even looking at us. We just wanted the check but my partner didn't want to be rude and interrupt him. By 9pm we got tired of waiting and we got up, put our coats on and walked to the front to try to pay at the front. That's when he came over. No apology, just said oh you want to pay? Charged our card and gave us the receipt to sign. We noticed he over charged us. He was already back chatting with the other couple and my partner didn't want to interrupt him so then I went to go ask another employee for help which then got the servers attention and he came over. Then we waited like 10 minutes until he was able to refund and recharge the correct amount. We had just driven 3 hours after having a medical emergency all morning and almost cancelled our trip. We had an absolutely heart wrenching day with the news we received from the doctor. But we decided to move forward with the trip and just have a nice dinner as we recovered for our first night. So while the food was good, this was not a pleasant ending to our already terrifying day. Pay attention to ALL of your customers! Not just the ones who are clearly wealthy and keep ordering more glasses of wine. I am updating the review 06/09 because in the end, the restaurant made it right.

It took pretty long for them to greet us or bring anything out after we ordered it - I'm talking 40 minutes for our meals, and our server Sam was a little sassy but I'm sure it was just the product of an overwhelming shift. We shared a bunch of stuff for the table, the large steak chimichurri, the burrata, tomato salad, the truffle fries, the kale beet salad, the mac & cheese, and the soup of the day which was truffle mushroom. The stuff was pretty good, I loved the tomato burrata. When I ordered the soup, I asked if it came with any bread or crackers, and he said no, but that he could add in some of the crostinis for me. He ended up charging me several dollars for those later, which I discovered on the bill. That didn't feel right, but whatever. The fries were yummy, the steak was OK and the chimichurri was not even real chimichurri - for $80 for one steak i was hoping for a little bit better experience there. The other dishes were good, but nothing was super memorable here, they did mention that their lunch menu was more well-known and that we should try that, which some of the group did go back the next day and said that it was a much better meal. I know that this is on property at a ski resort and that I never expected prices to be super reasonable, but I was a little bit disappointed for the value here. Giving four stars only because my friends enjoyed their lunch the next day.

Just left the Truffle Pig on a Tuesday night, and unfortunately it may have been the worst…read morerestaurant experience I've had in years. If you read my other reviews, you'll see that I don't make a habit of criticizing restaurants. I know everyone has an off night. But this experience missed the mark on almost every level. We were a party of four adults and two teenage girls on our last night in Steamboat Springs. The adults planned to enjoy a nice dinner while the girls did their own thing, but we all agreed on one thing: we wanted to eat at the Truffle Pig. The menu looked fantastic, and we were looking forward to a memorable final meal. Our first impression was a little strange. When we arrived, the two hostesses were playing cards. It wasn't offensive--they weren't busy--but it felt odd for a restaurant positioning itself as upscale. We explained that the girls wanted their own table, yet they seated them immediately beside us on the patio. There was only one other occupied table outside and roughly 15 empty ones, but we were seated directly next to that party as well. I politely asked if we could move a few tables away to give everyone some space. I was told they were "managing the servers' sections." The result was three occupied tables packed together while the rest of the patio sat empty. Our server, Dina, was friendly and pleasant. She mentioned there were no specials and took our drink orders. Oddly, after taking everyone's drink order, she returned to the first person and asked what she wanted to drink. She had simply forgotten she had already asked. It seemed harmless at the time. After our drinks arrived, I asked about the bacon-wrapped dates. Dina explained they came in orders of three, but we could add an extra one, so we ordered enough for everyone. Five minutes later she returned and asked if we'd like to order an appetizer. I reminded her we had already ordered the dates. "Oh yeah," she replied. The dates arrived and, to their credit, they were excellent. A few minutes later, Dina came back to let us know our dates should be out soon. Once again, I had to tell her we had already received them. Her response was simply, "Oh good, because I saw they started your entrees." My wife's Spinach & Bib salad with added steak was very good. Our friends ordered the burger and the cauliflower steak. Dina highly recommended the cauliflower steak, but our friend thought it was just average. Then the evening completely unraveled. I ordered the $79 New York Strip, medium rare. It was honestly the worst steak I've ever been served in a restaurant. The center was completely cold--well beyond rare--and it was so undercooked it's difficult to imagine anyone checked the temperature before it left the kitchen. On top of that, the steak was overwhelmingly fatty. I understand a New York Strip has marbling; it's one of my favorite cuts. This was something entirely different. I had to send it back. Remarkably, the teenage girls had also ordered the New York Strip, and theirs was even worse. Instead of preparing a new steak, the kitchen simply threw the already sliced pieces back on the grill. The result was an overcooked, tough, nearly inedible steak. At that point, I declined another steak and asked for the burger instead, specifically requesting no mushrooms. About ten minutes later, my replacement burger arrived covered with mushrooms. I scraped them off and, when Dina checked on us, I pointed out that I had specifically requested no mushrooms. There was no apology--just, "Oh, I know they were in a rush back there trying to get your meal out." That response perfectly summed up the evening. Mistakes happen. Kitchens get backed up. Servers forget things. What matters is how a restaurant responds. Throughout the meal there was no accountability, no manager stopped by, no chef came out, no offer to remake the girls' steaks properly, no complimentary dessert, and no effort to make things right. When Dina returned with our massive check, she apologized for the (wildfire) smoke in the area - really, for the smoke? I can only imagine the owner or Manager was off tonight, as well as the primary chef - or maybe not? For a dinner that approached $500, we didn't just leave disappointed--we left genuinely surprised that an establishment with this reputation handled the situation so poorly. The logo is great. The music and atmosphere are amazing (love the Grateful Dead theme). I just wish the food and service had lived up to them.

As anticipated, the place was gorgeous...with a slightly formal air. Given that it was in the Vail Village (near the ski slope), my husband was able to enter the place in his rugged ski suit. Despite the ambiance, it was a bit dead. I was disappointed with the lack of French music overhead...though maybe it was on so low, I didn't hear it? There were plenty of breakfast-brunch options, but on the menu, some items were noted as taking 20 minutes (which we didn't have time for!), so I was a tad bummed about that. In any case, my husband chose this Huckleberry Bacon French Toast, and I ordered the Maryland Crab Benedict. For drinks, we both just ordered plain coffee. As expected, the foods were good. I was more impressed with my husband's choice, this super-fancy french toast. Not only did it look amazing, it tasted spectacular! Mine was good, but disappointing at the same time. I really liked the Crab Benedict, but I only half-liked the side salad (basically just Arugula with a few Walnuts and Figs). The total bill for these items ran over 100 bucks... which, was to be expected in Vail. However, for such a pricey breakfast, I felt that I should have absolutely loved it...but it felt short of that. Overall, I just expected a bit more from this breakfast experience. Again, the decor was gorgeous, but the ambiance wasn't fully there (because of the lack of music?). Service felt a bit short-skimpy as well. Foods were good, but mine especially (Crab Benedict) felt a bit lacking. Let's just say that I've had Crab Benedicts as just as good for half the price...and with better sides. Maybe lunch or dinner experience is better here? In any case, am glad we checked out the place...but I doubt I'll choose it for breakfast again.
