Poke places are everywhere on the Mainland now and #Poki is a worthwhile variation. I like the starch options that include sushi rice and won ton chips. In a nod to poke's local Hawaiian roots, one of the sides you can choose is mac salad. It's not as laden with Best Foods like you'd have in Honolulu but it was absolutely satisfying. I've seen other places offer more "free" selections but the standard are available...green onion, edamame. Furikake, nori, cucumber... the mini with 2 scoop protein was perfect for a light meal. Hashtag Poki manages to offer fresh fish, large portions, and inexpensive pricing all at the same time. They achieve this by forgoing fancy sushi preparation, limiting their menu to a few core items, and in a phrase, keeping it simple. It's the only place in Berkeley where you can enjoy a lot of sushi and pay under $15. This place is good. The customer service, food, and prices could be better. Nothing wrong with much just small improvements. One of the things I do dislike about this place is the portion for the amount of money I am paying. The portions here are small expecially the rice and other addons. For the price that is there I would think there would be more. I've been to other poke places and there portions are more then they give here and it's cheaper by $1 or so. This place is okay, I wish they gave more base (although there are options for second base/extra base). I feel like there aren't as many options as my favorite poke place at Stanford Shopping Center, but in the Berkeley area I would definitely come here for my poke fix. The store itself is very cute and clean (albeit small). It's about $11 for a regular bowl which I think is normal for poke bowls. I am so glad this place is not closer to me because I would live here. So many options of base, sauce, protein, mix ins and they just started carrying avocado (for a buck more). It is a cute little place, the servers don't rush you through your choices, and ingredients are well marked in the display case. They serve perfect portions; scrumptious flavor combos; and there offer plenty of options, all of which are plenty fresh. Hashtag Poke is probably the best poke option in the Oakland/Berkeley area. The more popular poke place, Simply Bowl near the Berkeley campus, has mayo on almost all their offerings, making it not a very healthy option for the most part. The Poke place on Piedmont Ave. is simply not very high quality. I usually get brown rice and half salad. I try not to get too much tuna so I stick with 3 scoops of salmon, and sometimes I'll get a scoop of tuna. The fish is decently fresh; it's not like incredible grade sashimi, but you expect that at these price point. If you get avocado, which is extra, I would make sure they put in a healthy portion. I think it's like a few bucks extra, and sometimes they give you just a small scoop of it unless you ask for a healthy portion. read more

Stopped by for the first time, I had a good experience. It was a little difficult ordering, because I think the employee and I had trouble hearing each other over the glass window. I doordash from here all the time. I pretty much get the same poke bowl with either spicy tuna or just tofu. Never feel disappointed. The fish tastes fresh. Serving size is pretty good so, a mini bowl is actually enough for an average eater. Might try some other things off their menu next time. Recommend! read more

So...my husband and I have been back here maybe 10 times since I wrote my first review of Hashtag Poki last month. It's probably fair to say that we are addicted, and this place is now the only place we'll go for poke bowls. Everything is amazingly fresh, especially the fish. There are a ton of options to choose from, and they do a great job accommodating a number of different diets (the husband is vegan). One of the best things about this place, though, is that the owners and the staff are so nice and friendly. Hashtag Poki is the best new food addition to the neighborhood in a long time. read more

Finally some poke bowls arrive in south berkeley/ north oakland. Great chipotle style concept here. They seem really responsive to customer suggestions. Fish always tastes fresh and the flavor combinations are very reliable. I just wish they would use plastic circular bowls instead of rectangular cardboard boxes. But that's a minor gripe. I really liked my poke bowl and plan to order from here again. They had a lot of options to choose from and offer both in person ordering and delivery pick up. My order wasn't ready when I arrived (a little early) and they seemed pretty busy for a lunch rush, but they told me to just wait a few minutes outside while they made it right then. We've come here a couple of times now, and really like it. We've had poki before, but never ordered a build-your-own. The menu and ordering can be a little daunting at first, but we got the hang of it on our second trip. All of the items are fresh and tasty. I usually get the sushi rice as a base, tuna / salmon / yellow tail for the proteins, seaweed / crab salad, and nori / sesame to top it off. It's not super filling, but it's a nice healthy meal. Gluten-free friendly. Everything is very good, and the service is friendly and helpful. There are some tables there to eat there, and a big screen with the games on, too. I live in the city and am not usually in this area but I had just gotten done with a hair appointment so I decided to grab some grub. I found this place on yelp and it looked promising, but I was slightly disappointed with my bowl. The person who helped me was suuuuuper stingy with my bowl. Whenever I get a poke bowl from anywhere, I always get a whole bunch of toppings and my bowl always ends up getting really full. At this place, I feel like I got half the portion as I get with other places. For example, the employee put like 5 or 6 pieces of cucumber in my bowl....like come on.....cucumbers are cheap...there's no need to skimp on cucumbers. I can kind of understand when places are stingy on fish but not when its veggies. I was also slightly put off that this place only gives you one scoop of rice. I'm talking about like smaller than a single ice cream scoop. I've never been to a place that gives such little rice. I literally ate the entirety of my rice in like 3 bites. However, I did like that the quality of fish here was really fresh and buttery. read more

I would like to start by saying this is the only Poki I will eat now. I have tried 2 others and was not happy after they fell short of the standard Hastag Poki has set for me. The owner,Jerry, is always there to greet with with a welcoming hello and will always stop and ask how things are going. Makes me feel welcome and at home. They employees always greet you with a smile. I never feel rushed The quality of the fish is unbeatable. Jerry cleans and cuts the fish himself and I have yet to taste a bad batch in my weekly visit. Many different options from tofu to spicy tuna. I personally get the sushi rice and white rice base in my regular sized dish. With salmon,Albacore, and spicy tuna. Along with nearly all the produce options( white onion, sliced cucumbers, jalapeños, and more you have to see for yourself) mixed with the house made original sauce you Can't go wrong. The sauce has a little spice to it yet I feel it's the perfect amount to compliment the dish. All in fair warn. It is very filling and sastigying satisfying. I haven't walked out with an upset stomach like I have with other poki. I'm proud to call hastag poki one of my absolute favorite places to eat of any cuisine. I come here at least once a week. I actually want to come here once a week. This is the best poki place. ..better than the abismal ripoffs in sf, and the others I've had in the east bay. It's cheap, have crab salad, good rice, fatty salmon. Depending on who's serving sometimes you get bigger scoops...even if u don't the large leaves a bit leftover for the next day. This is the best poke I've ever had! I ordered delivery through DoorDash, which made the whole experience easy and convenient. So I'm only reviewing based on the food and not Hashtag Poke's service. The fish had a good flavor to it, as in there wasn't that weird pungent fish taste you'd sometimes get at other poke places. All the produce and fix ins you can choose from tasted fresh too. The only thing I was a bit sad about was that I ordered a large poke bowl and my boyfriend ordered a regular sized poke bowl and it seemed like he had gotten more than me. Anyway, that's not a big deal at all but hopefully that isn't a consistent thing they do. Overall, I really enjoyed the food from here and I plan on ordering again very soon! read more

This is a delightful poke spot! I ordered 3 scoops of fish (2 tuna, 1 spicy tuna), half-sushi rice and half-brown rice, with a side of crab salad and edamame. They have tons of mix-ins for the poke - I got green onion, avocado, cucumber, and jalapeño. For sauce, I loved the 'original spicy' which includes soy sauce, ponzu, sesame oil, plus something hot. For dessert, I added a Thai tea macaron sandwich which was super flavorful and a nice cap to a great lunch. The folks there were super friendly and are happy to answer questions on the 'build your own poke' bar. Worth a try and up there with Simply Bowl for me (another tasty spot)! read more

Good: The sashimi was fresh and not slimy or hard like many Poke spots I've checked out recently in the Bay Area. The staff are welcoming and professional. In addition, the sides such as their edamame was pretty good. Bad: I guess I'm used to larger Poke scoops like they do in Oahu or even Costco, but their idea of a scoop of fish is on the small side. Four mini scoops which is a Large size compares to "1" scoop of Poke from Costco. Conclusion: I'd come back here again for a quick lunch, plus it's on the end of the Berkeley side of Telegraph, which makes finding parking easier and less people to deal with. read more

The owners Jerry and Diane are very eco-friendly, all ingredients are carefully and responsibly sourced, and everything is recyclable.
