I saw an ad with amazing meat prices, so decided to check this place out. The shop is very small, basically just the meat counter with a few racks of spices. They didn't have the $7.99/lb NY strip that I was coming for but convinced me to buy marinated NY strips by telling me that they are usually more expensive but they would honor the $7.99 price. I was suspicious because I don't normally buy marinated meat (if the meat is good quality, why would you want anything on it other than salt and pepper). After reading other reviews, I think I was duped with the bait and switch. Hopefully the meat isn't spoiled. I haven't tried it yet but I'm suspicious. If it seems fishy, it probably is. I'll update this review after I try it, but overall a pretty average experience at this meat market. Update: I grilled up the steaks. The marinade was ok, but I wouldn't buy it again. They were sold as "USDA Prime" NY Strip steaks. Based on the marbling of the fat and toughness, I would say it was a choice cut at best. read more

They refused to give me their advertised price of $2.69 lb. They said it expired. Charged me a discount price of $4 lb if I would buy over 10lbs. The same day 2-3 hours later i see their advertised price of $2.69 lb no minimum. They refused to give me the difference when I showed them. The difference was just under $15. They could have settled it a number of better ways other than too bad for you make it up next time. I've known these people for a long time and have always happily paid full price. Although it may have "Brothers" in the name, the butchers at the counter have been all women on my dozen or more visits. Since moving back to MI, this has been my source for lamb and most middle eastern supplies. I always order some "boneless lamb for kebabs", which they bone and cut to order, and frequently their premarinated boneless chicken. I also recommend the ground lamb kofta, already seasoned and ready to skewer and grill. While your meat order is being assembled, wander around and you'll find yogurts and drinks in the cooler, including bottles of Mexican coke and orange Fanta, and in the back three different sizes of bulghar wheat and bins of bulk spices and grains. They also have several varieties large bags of basmati rice and pita bread towards the front and a selection of sweets and dates. They have just about the whole Shan line of spice boxes from Pakistan. I usually make my own curry blends, but at $1.49 a pop keep the Shan fish biryani and fruit chaat packs on hand. They also carry a few of their own blends, such as a nice 7 spice for kebabs. I usually can't resist getting some prepared hummus or dolma (stuffed grape leaves) at checkout. The hummus is silky smooth and full of tahini. They are eager to help with suggestions for spices or accompaniments and will often ask what you're cooking. Feel free to ask questions! read more

So disappointed me and my husband went to Costco for lamb chops never disappointed when purchasing them there. However they were out. So We stopped at Hassan meat market in Troy. My husband went in the store and I stayed in the car. He spent 74.00 for 4 pounds of lamb chops. At 4 pounds, I calculated 14.99 a pound and for 4 pounds it was more like 60 dollars I was so furious with my husband for spending so much on lamb chops. So we went home to prepare for dinner I pulled out the lamb chops and nothing but bones and fat. I threw it out. Absolutely horrible. So I returned to the market a couple of days later because I had to go back to work and did not have the time until today to let the owner or manager know about what they had sold my husband. I had taken pictures of the meat to prove that I was not out of my mind. My intentions was not to get a refund or replacement for the meat just to let them know not to do this to another customer. It was a complete circus with each person in the back of the counter showing me meat I thought was appropriate to give me up against the picture that I was showing them. They had these beautiful lamb chops on display evenly cut nicely fat to meat ratio. I know if my husband had picked out lamb chops it would not have looked like what they gave us. The butcher had the nerve to be nasty and rube. Asking me if I wanted to buy something else there. Shorty after, I looked this place up on Yelp and if I had seen the reviews before shopping I would not even shopped there. Complaints of bad meat to overcharging on the weight and quality of meat. Giving them 2 stars credit coz of the selection and prices till now. However they indulge in false business practices. Over a span of 8 years, I recommended this place to more than 20 people who became their regular customers. However, each of them complained about them overselling at all times, which was tolerable till certain limit. However, today upon asking for 5 lbs of goat meat, that front counter girl (relatively new) packed 6.5 lbs. Upon telling her that I only need 5lbs, she said that's what she packed and I'll have to buy that. I was like.. What? Upon asking why do I have to buy 6.5lbs when I asked for 5lb, she called the owner (the huge big guy with the white lab coat) and he started arguing about how they cannot measure individual pieces and can't make it 5lbs exact. I said I can understand that it may not come out to be 5kb exact and I can do with say 5.2 to 5.3, but cannot understand 6.5lbs. Those are small pieces of meat that won't weight more than a few ounces and so can easily be packed around 5.1-5.2 lbs range. Upon reminding him me being a regular customer and how many friends I turned towards his business,the guy became even more rude saying I should know their practice by now and maybe should refrain sending my buddies to his place. Anyways..He took out a few pieces and it was still 5.8lbs. I again said its a whole lot more than what I needed and that's when he just threw the packet back on the rack, refused to sell it and told me to take my business elsewhere. So I did exactly that. Got better quality meat at a bit higher price but only for the amount I wanted to consume. I guarantee you, if you ever go to this place, THEY WILL OVERSELL. GUARANTEED. And if you tell them to reduce it to nearby what you wanted, they'll start with all sorts of crappy reasons. And try not to even talk to the owner (the tall guy).. He's a mess and rude fellow. Even those girls out there on the front are so frkn scared of him. Lol.. My primary reason to visit this place earlier was that their price was good, but frankly speaking, not only their meat quality downgraded, they jacked up the prices on everything by atleast 40% to nearly 120% on every item. So earlier their oversell would pinch but tolerable, however now they have made it as a standard practice. To top that, they have nearly doubled the prices on most items, and them now grossly overselling knowingly 30% on top, that's ridiculous. Bought 10 pound of supposedly 100% lean ground meat 2 weeks ago and wish I did not. Used to go there a long time ago, spent a lot of money but stopped cause quality meat was no longer good. But 2 weeks ago I decided to give them another try but wish I did not. The 10 pounds of ground meat didn't look, nor smelled good and finally when cooked didn't taste good either. I went there to get a prime rib for the new year. When i called in they let me know that I would be able to purchase a ten lb prime rib. When I arrived the only thing I could get was a 20lb, then it went to 13 and when it finally ended i was given a 16 lbs prime rib. I was fine with how it worked out although I felt as though I have been given the run around. When i got home and started to rub the meat I noticed that there was extra fat that was packed around it. I decided to ignore it at this moment as I thought it was lean and could use it. BOY WAS I WRONG. The roast was FULL of fat, more fat than I had ever seen on a prime rib. Not to mention that the additional fat that was added was either lamb or goat. I am very familiar with both lamb and goat and i can guarantee that they packed it full of different animal fat which of course changed the flavor. In all it was prepared well so it turned out okay, but my guest and I will always remember the gamy smell than ran through the house and the meat. Not to mention it was super gritty. I went to this little grocer's today and was delighted with the service and purchases. Their prices are very good but keep in mind the best prices come with a quantity purchase. For the ground round and ground veal it was a 5 lb. minimum. And for veal chops, and various other steaks one had to purchase the whole slab. When my purchases are larger I just divide, wrap, and freeze. We went around 4:00 and the 2 sisters were working-they could not have been more accommodating. I went there because they were advertising t-bone steaks for $5 per pound and of course you have to buy the whole slab which is about 20 pounds. I had them cut it for me and bag it up and when I got home to put the steaks in the freezer I saw that they actually gave me new york strip steak which was on sale for $2.99 that day. So basically they stole from me $40 dollars thinking that I wouldn't see the difference in the steaks because i'm a young man. however they are wrong because I worked in the meat department at a supermarket before. This Hassan guy is a biggest cheat, he started his shop as a cheater but has yet to realize that people have caught on to his cheating and there are many more meat and mid-eastern grocery shops within 2 miles of his shop. My experience, I asked for ground hamburger, they show you the meat but take it inside to grind it, got home and found it to be whitish instead of pinkish, which is it had more than 25% fat. On other occasion I went to buy pita bread since I was in a hurry, this guy tries to see me pita bread packet for $1.89 which other stores sell for $1.25, when I asked him why he was so expensive, he said that's how he sells them. I wish I'd read these reviews before I went. I will never go there again! They sold me Ribeye steaks, and talked me into getting them marinated. She said they usually charge for marinade, but since I was new to the store they would do it "free." I got home, and they had switched my order to strip steaks (which were on sale for something like $3.23/lb.) and I think they weighed it AFTER adding the heavy liquid/oil marinade to the bag. $40 for four little strip steaks that should have cost $15 or less. For some reason my husband, who always cooks the meat, this last time decided to look up the reviews (I don't know where he looked he said they weren't great). Well I had him go to Hassan Brothers again anyway and once again THE SERVICE WAS SPECTACULAR AND THE MEAT WAS PRISTINE. They even surprised us by making us special sausage to grill from the trimmings from our Fillet Mignon at no extra charge (spiced and herbed). We have ordered ever type of meat from them over the years it's always the best price (I check) and by far the most personal service.
