8/8/2023: Whoa~Hassett Hardware Store beats AMAZON'S price purchasing a combo heater/cooling fan! In addition, I was shocked and amazed comparing prices with Hassett Hardware, Amazon, and the two big box stores when purchasing a 20-AMP, not a 15-AMP extension cord, i.e., I want purchasing the uber-thick yellow or orange industrial extension cord used for high wattage appliances and also, the Vornado combo heater/cooling fan. With my iPhone in hand, I began furiously checking the price points per store for the products I wanted purchasing which is my reason purchasing from Hassett Hardware. Moreover, Hassett's customer service is TOP NOTCH; all Sales Department Employees knows EXACTLY where the products I want purchasing locations are within the store AND I don't have to HUNT searching for help either. Finally, upon ready paying for the two items, one of the Sales Department Employees inquired whether I had an Ace Hardware card for reducing the price for the products I'm purchasing: I didn't possess an Ace Hardware Card so, the Sales Department Employee signed me as an Ace Hardware Member which ultimately, I save more money purchasing the high ticket items! I've been coming to these guys for years to get my Honda Commercial gas-powered lawn mower repaired. The land I'm moving is difficult: most of it is steep, and it's never been seeded as a lawn. I leave it for months at a time, so the weeds get to be up to 8 feet tall. It's bumpy, and I push the mower over fallen branches and pine cones and gopher dirt mounds all the time. These guys have gotten to know me, and they know how hard I am on my mower--and the fact that I regularly leave gas in the tank long enough to eventually gum up the carburetor. They also know that when I have the time to catch up on mowing my 2.5 acres, I'm eager to take advantage of that time and get the work done. 8 weeks ago, after mowing for a couple hours every day for a week, the mower stopped starting, probably because of the old gas I was using. When I brought it in, they were very nice but said that they were backed up for a month. I begged and pleaded and told them I really wanted to get caught up with my mowing before rainy season. They're used to my pleading, but they also knew how much it would mean to me to get back to work. Somehow they found time for my machine that very weekend. They went out of their way to double-check that the carburetor was cleaned out and tuned properly, and the blade replaced. AND they made sure I understood about NOT leaving gas in the tank with the valve open to the carburetor!! Ever since then, I've been making slow but steady progress on the 2.5 acres I try to keep mowed, and I'm finally ready for the rainy season. The property looks as good as it ever has, the woody Scotch broom is mowed down, there are a couple new trails through the acre of forest at the bottom of the hill, and it's still starting the first time--no matter how long it's been since I've gotten back it. They give me the kind of service that I need, working with my deadlines and teaching me the basics I was ignorant about. I'm very grateful they're my local repair folks! read more

This is for the delivery service...If you use this service, make sure and write to Ace on their online form's notes *deliver out of view of traffic* so anyone passing by is prevented from an easy theft...attractive nuisance, etc. The delivery person on 8/21/25 thought it okay to leave my items on driveway...clearly seen from street. Not only that, but they also thought it okay to leave my personal information on the receipt flapping in the wind. Not cool!!! Visited Half Moon Bay Ave this morning. Was looking for some red mulch for my new planter in my front yard. Just wanted to comment on the excellent customer service from Juana. I saw her in the garden area and she helped me select the red mulch for my planter. Juana went the extra mile for me and got a dolly and even loaded four of the 2.2 cubic feet for me. No joke Yelpers! These bags weigh approximately 35-40 lbs each. Needless to say she went all ten yards. Got all four bags for under $ 20.00. Thank you Ace! Aron is a knowledgeable, helpful and reliable employee when it comes to servicing and repairing chain saws. I severely damaged my Husqvarna chain saw and he was able to order the parts and repair it perfectly. I always go to him for an efficient and timely sharpening of the chain blades. I was so impressed by his helpful attitude and competent service that I bought a new Steele chain saw from your store. I'm rough on the equipment and last week I had to change the bar and asked for a "refresh/tutorial on running the Steele chainsaw which he kindly took the time to provide to me. Ismael "store manager" does not care of his title nor job because he likes to Taunt his customers over a mistake he did and admitted to it. And yelling across the store while customer is walking out the door that his name is Ismael two times in a row laughing like it's a joke. All because the customer told him that he was going to speak to someone higher than him because he thought it was a joke. And trying to justify that everyone makes mistakes. How can you make a mistake if it was paid up front in cash and was one item. Got in contact with the regional manager and tried to justify the mistake and contradicted herself that only mistakes could have happened if multiple items were being ordered at once. In this case was only one item and paid. She right away tried to defend store manager that he was not pocketing the money without internal investigation in checking cameras and audio and looking up in the system the purchase. This only shows how the store manager and regional manager don't care of the customer service. Instead of investigating herself with all other employees what happened exactly and of course would only be up to employees whether they want to throw someone under the rug or not. People have business to run and a simple mistake can cause delay in business needs. Another thing she did not have a response in regards to if the customer had never gone back to get the part what would they have done pocketed the money whether if it was $12- over $100 value item. This shows they are paying a store manager to be a fool. Just because you are a manager doesn't mean you can treat customers how ever you want. Because as soonest a customer complains or talks back they get offensive and want to denie business with you. read more

They clearly have a manager, or whoever is in charge of hiring and placing employees, who has NO clue how to train employees. Many are young and have zero skills on how to greet customers and relate to the customer. Zero. We have a beach place here in HMB, and we need Ace all the time, so we go all the time, and this is what we are up against, all the time. Many workers socializing. They don't acknowledge you and ask if you need help finding something, you have to wait until you can get their attention and then they act as if you're bothering them. They're young and dumb. I want to commend Hassett Ace Hardware employee Omar for the fantastic help he gave me today. I went in there wanting to buy a gas-powered string trimmer with which to better maintain my lawn, but I knew absolutely nothing about those products, much less how to use them. Omar went beyond the call of duty. Omar helped me figure out which trimmer would best match my needs, and after we settled on the Stihl FS 56 RC-E, he took me outside and gave me a thorough training on how to use the machine, with an emphasis on best safety practices. Omar didn't have to try hard at all to sell me on additional items related to this purchase, such as hearing protection and the gallon of pre-mixed two-stroke fuel. The trimmer itself was a mere $199, but the level of service and training I received made me feel like I'd just signed on the dotted line at a Mercedes or Cadillac dealership. If I were an executive at Stihl, I'd be thrilled to know people like Omar are acting as such effective ambassadors for my brand. And if I owned or managed Hassett Ace Hardware, I'd do everything I could to keep Omar around for a long time. PS: This is the nicest Ace Hardware I've ever been in. Compared to the dreary Ace Hardwares in Pacifica and San Francisco, Hassett is like a well-lit, cheerful palace, full of fun products. Today's round of applause goes to Gary who helped us today just as he does every time he sees us. He always asks how we're doing and he remembers the things we tell him. He knows the location of every item in that store. He always tries to make sure we get the right product for our needs. He shows us things we might have missed without him, maybe something with a better price or quality. Gary is great at customer service and it makes the shopping experience so enjoyable. It's comfortable to go in there and kinda fun! Everybody says hi and is willing to chat it up a little if the store is not too busy. This place saved our asses! Lets just say something very important feel into the crevice of the handbrake of our car and we really needed it back. Dealerships were closed, but not this place. They had a device that is like a mini claw grabber that you see in those old school arcades and the sucker worked like a charm! Made us all breath a sigh of relief. Don't be fooled- this isn't just a hardware store, it's an amazing collection of everything ever. Half Moon Bay is a small place so it's always nice to find a shop that has a lot of variety! Ocean Shore has the following: all things hardware stores should have (we've bought tools, fuses, extension cords, etc), BBQ grill section (my dad got us a tiny one for camping!!), art supplies (really), great gardening section/lots of stuff for pest control, nice paints, holiday decorations (go all out for Halloween of course- it's HMB after all), a kitchen section (again, really!), cards, birds section (got our hummingbird feeder & nectar here), and even clothing. The staff of Ocean Shore is wonderful and always very helpful. Whenever they send me a $5 coupon in the mail I walk back over there to get something new that I've been waiting to get. This hardware store is Aces!! I don't know why I am still surprised when I find exactly what I want. I have been shopping here for 7 years and they did it again today. In the paint department I got help for a nontoxic wood sealer to use on a planter box. In the plant department I came across the exact plant I have been searching for at numerous nurseries and online with no success. There it was sitting on a shelf . I bought six Zion Copper Amethyst African daisies . The color is beautiful. To finish off the trip I picked up 2 air filters. Got checked out with a smile by Tracy and received free sanitizer wipes because my purchase was over $40. read more
