i had such an amazing experience here! our server was very kind and made helpful recommendations to us. he truly went above and beyond and made the experience special for us. there is plenty of seating. the space feels comfortable and casual. there are tons of windows that fill the place with natural lighting and there is a parking lot as well as street parking. we got the seasonal roast duck curry and i really like how they took the meat off the bones for us so that we could eat it more easily. i love duck but hate tediously removing the bones, so this made me enjoy the dish 10x more. everything was flavored perfectly and the prices are very reasonable as well. when we were finished, our server brought us some mango sticky rice free of charge. his thoughtfulness is much appreciated and i can't wait to come back here! read more

It's a nice cozy family owned Thai restaurant. Parking is small but it wasn't super busy when we went. You walk in and it immediately feels like home. The staff are extremely nice we got the tom yum, pad see ew, and two curries (I don't remember the names). They also gave us complimentary mango sticky rice. We were so hungry I could only get a picture of what the table looked like after. Prices are really good too. I would go back when I visit Portland again. read more

This place has been on my radar and when I heard it was great, I had to check jt out. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff and sat down. I ordered a Thai ice tea and spicy pork fried rice. I was amazed by the plate prices and quick and friendly service. My plate arrived promptly and each bite built on flavor as the meal progressed. The spice level enhanced the flavor and did not overwhelm my taste buds. I finished my plate and the staff gave me a complimentary small size mango rice pudding. It was a great gesture and ended my meal with an extra smile. I cannot wait to return and try the other dishes. The staff is super friendly and very welcoming. It never ceases to amaze me how PDX has so many great restaurants, Sivalai, definitely falls into this category! Great service, friendly and attentive. The restaurant is typical of what you would except of Thai design. The Tom Yum was great with 6 tasty shrimp being cooked exceptionally well! The Papaya Salad was great too! I've driven by so many times and finally got the chance to do lunch at Sivalai Thai! The exterior looks like a commercial building, but don't let that stop you - this is a sweet neighborhood spot that's been around for nearly 30 years. I got the Thai tea ($2!!!!), beef salad, pad see ew with tofu, and mango sticky rice. The prices are very reasonable, with options under $10 for main dishes. Everything tasted great. Next time I might increase the spice level. The fifth star is earned by the lovely staff here. I felt very welcome. I believe the owner was our waiter and he was calmly friendly, happy to discuss the menu, and kept the tea refills coming. read more

The service was so friendly and they really make you feel welcomed. The food was decent and the prices are some of the most reasonable in town. I wish this place was a lil closer to me. We had the appetizer sampler, the chicken pad see ew, and spicy tofu fried rice and a few of the soups and we all shared so I feel like I had a lil of everything. I was not the biggest fan of their spicy fried rice as I usually order basil friend rice at Thai places and therfore the flavors were definitely different and the chicken pad see ew was a lil too sweet for my taste buds but their soups and apps were good. Delighted to give Sivalai Thai on SE Stark enthusiastic five stars. Very good Thai food at extremely reasonable prices. During our recent visits we've ordered the pad woon sen, nua yang, pad kee mao, namm sod, Sivalai cashew, panang curry, and mus-sa-mun curry, among other items. All delicious and carefully and freshly prepared, and our take-out orders came with complementary mango sticky rice. The restaurant itself is a charming little place with outoor seating, and the service is prompt and extremely cordial. Sometimes outstanding spots to eat are tucked away on tree-lined streets rather than on busy restaurant rows. Sivalai Thai is worth seeking out, and don't overlook the incredibly low priced $2 Thai iced teas. read more

OMG. How have I never reviewed this restaurant? We've been going to Sivalai since the early 2000's, back when we were super young and super broke. The owner (I believe) at the time would always be excited that my husband's name was Joe, just like his. The portions were (are are!) great, and the food prepared with love. While we haven't eaten in the restaurant itself in years, we loooooove delivery from Sivalai. Our current favorites are: Spicy Fried Rice with Chicken (SOOOOO GOOD, especially if you feel like you're sick or fighting a virus off); pad thai (again, sooo good, with a nice depth of flavor compared to many Thai restaurants in Portland), and crab fried rice (hubby's favorite).
