The curry...omg, it's a small portion, but packs the flavor of a gallon! Roti, lovely. It is order at the counter, which is not really this person's thing, but to each their own. Second time here! The veggie curry broth is solid with the jasmine rice. The curry contains cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, and squash. The side of pickled vegetables is FRESH! They have a fairly straightforward menu, curry, fried chicken and a few other selections. They also have cocktails available. The food was good, not great in my opinion. Hat Yai is a spectacular place to visit with a group - servings are medium sized, so sharing as many different menu items as possible is a real treat. The spice levels are, for me, pretty much perfect. There's lots of flavor without anything being painful. It's not a huge space, so their order-at-the-counter arrangement works beautifully for cutting down the amount of time spent sitting at tables with nothing to do. They have self-serve water and to-go container stations, so this is a very efficient operation. I don't like spicy food but I like flavor. So without dipping in any sauces I might as well be eating a grocery store chicken. My friends got more fun flavorful dishes like the curry dishes and they all enjoyed their meals. I did like the Roti as that is unique for Portland.
