We stayed here after I made a mistake with our bookings in Yellowstone. It was a good mistake as our stay here was very enjoyable, actually better than some of the hotels in in the park. We used the resort as our base to visit the Tetons and it worked out great. Not too far from the Moran entrance to Grand Teton park. The staff was friendly and the cabins very nice. They even took good care of us at the restaurant as most of our party was vegetarian. read more

Wife and I stayed here 2 nights while we explored the Tetons. Rooms were a little pricey for what it was but we did book late. That being said, we were pleasantly surprised with everything at the resort. Everything was very neat, clean, and well maintained. Everyone was very nice. I would normally feel bad giving a place a one star. I can find good in just about anything and I try to. The ONLY thing I can say about this place is that the front desk guy was nice and his dog was cute. OTHER THAN THAT...if you pay anything over $40 for this place you are asking to be ripped off. You walk in and it looks like the 1980's Indian phase exploded in your face. Yeah, you're in the vicinity of a National Park, but you do not need the furniture to actually be from the 1800's Davey Crockett era, that's getting in a little too deep. Log cabin, old photos, nothing new, nothing works (lights, hello?), it's a nightmare. You actually look around and think that the furnishings could not possibly have cost even a night's lodging here and then you get pissed. Because if you're charging almost $150 a night and the TV is the size of a small box and the picture had a perpetual green tint, you wonder just what they're spending all the money on. The only thing even close to being modern is the shower. Yes, shower. No, not a bathtub. And, you look one direction and you see a parking lot, you look another and you see a rusted out storage unit. So much for being close to nature. Had to pay $3 for Internet that was so slow it wasn't even worth using. They supposedly have a place to eat but I'd already taken too many chances here as it was so I passed. Sorely disappointed and wouldn't stay here again if it was free. read more

I've been meaning to post this review for a while. We stayed here in June 2014. If you're looking for Americana. If you're looking for quiet. If you're looking for scenery. This is the place. You know when people used to stay at those rustic roadside inns? That's Hatchet - neon sign and all. Location: it's off of 26/287, just east of Grand Teton and southeast of the southern entrance to Yellowstone. Beautiful views of the mountains. Quiet. Pricing: Is it pricey? Sure, but what isn't in that area? It's cheaper than staying at a Yellowstone hotel, or in any of the chaos of Jackson Hole. What do you get?: The room was great. All log, all the time. It was fun and I wouldn't want it any other way. Comfortable beds, really nice shower. TV channels were from LA, which we thought was funny. But, we weren't there for TV. Flat screen TV, by the way. Everything was very clean. There were a decent number of people staying there, but we never heard anyone else. It was pretty quiet for us. The internet is $3 - no biggie. It worked fine for us using two different devices. I appreciated the fact that they had it because we had zero reception on our phones for most of Wyoming, so it was nice to be able to get in touch with some people. The Hatchet has gas - which is awesome if you've forgotten to fuel up. (Please don't forget to fuel up - gas stations are few and far between in Wyoming!) :) They also have a general store with snacks, treats, beer, t-shirts, gifts, etc. And one dog. (not for sale!) In the morning, you head over to the Hatchet Grill for a tasty breakfast. Prices are decent, considering there isn't another place to eat for miles. No decaf coffee though. I guess they want everyone to be awake on their mountain drives! :) When you come back in the evening, you get to have dinner at the Whetstone grill. A great lodge/restaurant they've got with some nice food, and full bar. The waitstaff here - and really, the entire staff of Hatchet - just great. Pleasant, nice, friendly. The food was all good, and they have a nice selection of local/regional beers you can try. What I know/think/feel: -The Hatchet was recently remodeled in April 2014 - so everything is great, and looks great. -If you don't like solitude. If you don't like Americana. If you need to have hustle and bustle. Please don't stay here. Go to the crowds in Jackson. -The Hatchet is history, and we loved it. If you're the kind of person that will drive Route 66 rather than take the main highway, this is your place. -Good for families, good for couples. -I've seen a few reviews about ants, mice, spiders, etc. I grew up in a more rural area, so I'm not freaked out by this. If you're used to a sterile environment, go to some chain place in a city. You're in nature. You're in the mountains. There are bugs. And yes, we had some large black ants in our room. I wasn't thrilled with them, but I'm a few feet from a nice woodsy area - what else would I expect? (I've had cockroaches in hotels in Houston - it doesn't mean it's dirty - that's just part of life in Texas!) We drove through Jackson on our way to Hatchet - we were so glad we didn't stay there. Rooms are rustic, but location is great for grand tetons. Yes, there are mouse traps, not sure there is any problem with hantavirus in this area. Previous review posting yosemite story is kind of scare mongering. Did not pay $3 for internet, especially considering the reviews. Front desk has limited hours, and not overly friendly. No remote for the TV in our room. Did not eat at the grill (open for breakfast and lunch), but did attempt to eat at the restaurant. After waiting over an hour to attempt to place my order, I left. My wife and the other couple we were travelling with were eventually served after 9 pm. read more

I would definitely recommend calling before you book here. I saw the pictures online and saw that the rooms had the bathroom in the rooms, one of the main reasons I selected the resort. Once I got my room, we were placed to stay on the top of store. Sharing the bathroom with other guest. I'm sure they were lovely but I do appreciate privacy. It seemed like an apartment where we have to stay with other strangers. If it wasn't for the nice staff. I would definitely not recommend it here and suggest driving a little more for another hotel. read more

Down and dirty; paid $217 for the bottom floor of a chalet cabin. Heard upstairs all night. Creaking. Footsteps. Laughter. Toilet. Shuffling. Banging. You get the picture. We were warned as much, but were tired from a long drive. Bed was comfortable and warm. Place was very clean and quaint. Got up and no coffee. Sink wouldn't drain. Plus, there is some irony to a guy working reception to be unreceptive. Hard to look past all the problems. They do have cabins, which might be a better choice (at least cheaper). We were there in late June of 2013 for one night. The rustic cabin-like rooms are super cute but be forewarned: if you have a fear of spiders, this place might not be for you. We settled in to our room (TV worked but we paid for internet which did not work and we were refunded our money), but I dropped my earring between the bed post and the wall and was kind of horrified to see so many cobwebs and spiderwebs with active spiders just inches from my head. While this isn't my idea of a clean room, I am used to camping, and paying nearly $200 less to stay at the Hatchet Resort (rather than in the park) even with the spiders seemed fine to me. It's only about a 10 minute drive to the park and the restaurant and bar are so cute and serve delicious food. We had the most divine huckleberry pancakes for breakfast in their rustic dining room replete with elk antler chandeliers. read more

Hatchet Resort - Snow in May!! - Hotels Near Me - Moran, Wyoming

Great place. We stayed at The Hatchet last year around the same time for 4 days and 4 days this year. Love the log cabin feel. There were noticeable differences from last year due to COVID that I wish we would have been notified before we arrived. In the bathroom was the normal soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. What was missing and not offered like last year were Kleenex, cups in bathroom for brushing your teeth, no house keeping services unless you are there more than 3 days. We did have to go to lobby to get towels. The Keurig & coffee cups were removed. There was no way to make coffee or heat water for coffee. We had to drive 20+ miles to get a cup of coffee on days we left early before the restaurant opened. Ice was only available for purchase in 7 or 8 pound bags at the front office. We only brought a small cooler thinking we could just get what ice we needed. We were told we could go to the restaurant and ask for a couple cups of ice but anything more than that we would have to buy a bag. We did get a few cups of ice the first day but ended up having to buy a bag and due to our small cooler discarded what wouldn't fit in the cooler. Even with these items not included there was no change in pricing. But I guess that's what supply and demand is all about. Due to COVID we understand changes have to be made and we made due with what we had. Just think we should have received something before we arrived so we could have planned better. Still highly recommend The Hatchet Resort just next time will plan accordingly. read more

I worked at this motel during a summer college break. I went back in 2015 and it hadn't changed much at all since I had worked there. I wrote a review that was not very flattering and then I received a message in my inbox from Ron J. that stated (I am replacing some of his words with symbols): "Your a lying bit$h. You never worked at the Hatchet. I would have hired you and I never talked to you. Quit putting false reviews on yelp. It's assholes like you that drop ratings and cost businesses valuable rating points. F%&k off." Not sure who Ron J. is, but he must have something to do with the hiring. Now I see why there are so many negative comments about the staff and front desk. From the photo, it looks like Ron was probably in diapers when I worked there, so not sure how he thought he would have hired me. We had a fantastic stay! Family of four with two young toddlers. Beds were very comfortable. They have a play set area with a slide, disc golf and corn hole. Our cabin did not have a bath, shower only for those who usually want to bath their kids in a tub. Breakfast at the diner was very tasty and service was outstanding. Most overpriced room I've ever stayed in for what you get. $150/night for a room that was so small I didn't have room to put my bags down and still walk around in the room. Plus, the room was 20' from the highway, so I could hear cars whizzing by at 70mph all day and all night. The breakfast staff, specifically the hostess and the woman running the register, were some of the unfriendliest waist staff I've ever dealt with. I used to work for Vail at Grand Teton NP, I get it, rich tourists suck. I was camping in national forest and it rained for a night, so I wanted a hot shower and a dry place to sleep. Big mistake. Waste of money. Food is also garbage. I will say the waitresses at night were friendly, but the food wasn't any better. Also no AC, so the room was hot as hell. read more

TERRIBLE! When we arrived, we noticed that the carpet was SOAKED just outside the bathroom. We called the manager. He said he would give us some extra towels to "soak it up"!!! We did not know if the soaking was from an overflowing toilet or the shower (he would not tell us!!) We got there early . . about 3 p.m. . . and there was hardly no one there. He could have given us a different room! We were there for 2 nights. NO COFFEE in the room. NO KLEENEX in the room. NO HOUSEKEEPING . . we had to make our own beds! The website says there would be a phone in the room . . NO PHONE! And, they never gave us any more supplies . . so the last morning, we RAN OUT OF TOILET PAPER (not even a spare roll!!! For this, we paid $228 per night with NO meals! DON'T STAY HERE!!! read more

Since the roads were unknown I pulled into the resort without a reservation to ask for a room as my family with 2 kids were exhausted. I would like to give this place more stars, but I just can't. If you are looking for a Bates Motel in Wyoming, look no farther. Firstly, this place is waaayyy off the beaten path and not close to much view of the spectacular Tetons at all. We found one sign for the hotel next to a grassy drive that went to nowhere. So, the directions are bad. You can't call because cell service is nil in that area. Once arriving, we checked in and the guy in charge was grumpy to the guests that were in line before me, and then grumpy to me. Internet is $3.00 is pretty much all he said that was of any use, so no charm or welcome whatsoever. Blah. The room was ok, but lacked any a/c or heat, which would have been nice since we encountered a freak storm that brought the temp down to 45 degrees. To warm up, we took a hot shower, which set both smoke alarms shreiking and lights spinning. Fun moment. That happened 3 times that night and once in the morning. We had to open the front door and the bathroom window to allow the draft to remove the steam...meaning that we lost any warmth in the room whatsoever. Good times. In general, this place ended up being the MOST expensive place we stayed in our whole 9 days from California to Yellowstone and back, and it was the worst. Bummer. read more

Perfect secluded family motel that is still close enough to Yellowstone, Tetons and Jackson for day trips. We stayed here for 4 nights with our 8 month old son - super clean rooms, hot shower, and two restaurants with good food. If you want a motel with a lot of local history and rustic log construction, this place is for you. If you're looking for nightlife and close amenities, you're probably best off elsewhere. As others noted, this motel was completely remodeled in May 2014. So all furnishings, TVs, bedding, etc. is modern and up to date. read more

Nice place overall. Clean rooms with very nice rustic feel and brand new tile showers. Both dinner and breakfast were very tasty but somewhat pricey. They are about the only place to eat around there so they could get away with giving you crappy food and charging you much more but the gap between the quality of the food and the price is minimal. Overall it is a nice place to stay that's right next to the Tetons and very nice decor that just adds to the experience of visiting the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. I highly recommend the Hatchet, don't be afraid of the name you will survive ;) read more

An amazing getaway located just outside the Grand Tetons Moran Entrance. The Resort boasts of amazing views, quiet nights, delicious food, and rustic but modern updated cabins. They followed through on all of the above. My family and I stayed for one night in one of the suite cabins. It was perfect. It had a flat screed TV, free wifi that was easy to connect to and didn't drop any of the 5 devices that were connected to it, it had a microwave, a mini fridge, big fluffy white towels, and get this...HEATED FLOORS! The Whetstone and Grill were both very good. Beware, the pancakes are HUGE! There is a gas station on the premises. And for the kiddos there was a mini fort, a swing set, and a disc golf tee with discs you can borrow. The only thing they didn't have to offer was a pool/hot tub or a laundry room, but they more than made up for it in the hospitality and attentiveness. I will definitely be back here. read more

Just a little update... Have you heard about the deaths in yosemite from contact with mice carrying the hanta virus? Might be best to avoid a place that most defintely does have mice, as I assure you the Hatchet does - see my original review below... YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. -- A second person has died of a rare, rodent-borne disease after visiting one of the most popular parts of Yosemite National Park earlier this summer, and park officials were warning past visitors to be aware of some flu-like aches and symptoms and seek medical help immediately if they appear. Health officials learned this weekend of the second hantavirus death, which killed a person who visited the park in June, spokesman Scott Gediman said in a statement. There was one other confirmed case of the illness, and a fourth is being investigated. Yosemite officials said the four visitors might have been exposed while vacationing at the park's Curry Village, and are warning those who stayed in the village's tent cabins from mid-June through the end of August to beware of any symptoms of hantavirus, which can include fever, aches, dizziness and chills. An outreach effort is under way to contact visitors from that period who stayed in "Signature Tent Cabins," which have more insulation and amenities than other tent cabins. Federal health officials say symptoms may develop up to 5 weeks after exposure to urine, droppings, or saliva of infected rodents, and Yosemite advised visitors to watch for symptoms for up to six weeks. Of the 587 documented U.S. cases since the virus was identified in 1993, about one-third proved fatal. There is no specific treatment for the virus. After-hours calls to Yosemite officials seeking further details were not immediately returned Monday night. Following the first death, which was reported earlier this month, state health officials advised anyone with symptoms to seek medical attention and let doctors know if they were camping in Yosemite. Officials said thousands of people visit the park every month, so it would be impossible to track everyone who had set foot in Curry Village. Curry Village is the most popular and economical lodging area in the park, a picturesque assemblage of rustic cabins at the base of the 3,000-foot promontory Glacier Point. Gediman told the San Francisco Chronicle that of the 408 tent cabins in the village, 91 are of the "signature" variety where the four cases had stayed, which feature more insulation and amenities than the others. It was not clear how many people stayed in the cabins in the period in which park officials are warning visitors. Gediman said contractors are working on the signature cabins to protect park-goers. "They're doing everything they can to eliminate areas where mice can get into the cabins," Gediman told the San Francisco Chronicle. Our hostel room did not lock from the outside. The staff refused to move us to a different room and did not fix it during our stay. Waitress at breakfast was surly and too busy to pay attention to our order. Rooms were clean but had no screen doors and so had several mosquitos in them each night after they were cleaned. Wow! What a gem this place was! We found it just by accident as it was the most convenient location for our trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons. We were so pleased, we extended our stay. The staff was very cool. A very family kind of vibe. So accommodating for us to extend. The restaurant food and staff were amazing. Some of the best food and service I've ever experienced (definitely try the elk!) DOG FRIENDLY! This was a big win for me, as travelling with my dogs can be a hastle as far as finding dog friendly accommodations. The rooms were so cute and comfy. Great showers, and nice little touches with a kurig and little soaps, etc. Free wifi of course. The wooden motif really got us enjoying the mountain vibe (great when you're trying to get out of the city!) This was my first trip to yellowstone and I will definitely be back and staying at hatchet! Highly recommend! !! read more

We didn't stay at the resort (but wish we had) but ate breakfast here every day. The Hatchet Grill is outstanding and I highly recommend whether you're staying at the resort, staying nearby or just passing by. Jessica is so friendly and accommodating to travelers from all over. She gave us ideas of where to see moose (our trip goal). The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Also the man at the store next door was very kind. I should give this resort 1 star, but I gave it 2 because the dinner we had there was decent. When we stayed there, I found a MOUSE TRAP in the bathroom. So gross! I couldn't sleep because all I could think about was a mouse crawling into bed with me. The rooms are pretty dated, no air conditioning or blow-dryers. read more

The room was clean and very nicely decorated and the beds were cozy. It was a great home base to have access to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone Parks. My wife and I stayed at the Hatchet in August 2015. We were pleasantly surprised! When we arrived the guy at the front desk greeted us with a smile as he checked us in. He was knowledgeable about the area gave us some good ideas on both Yellowstone and Grand Teton. The rooms were made of log so had a very western feel to them, you can tell they have been recently updated new beds, furniture and TV (limited channels thou). We had dinner in the Whetstone on the day we arrived and the staff were great, friendly courteous and fast. The food was a surprise as well, the steak I had was cooked perfectly and my wife's trout was equally as good. We were a little skeptical about staying here after reading some of the other comments, but we are glad we checked it out for ourselves. The hotel is surrounded by forest so I was not surprised to see a mouse trap in the room (no mouse though), after all the bigger animals need something to eat too. I would highly recommend the Hatchet to anyone I know heading to the Tetons read more

If it wasn't bad enough that our house in Texas flooded yesterday (9/19/19), we had to cancel our vacation to Yellowstone. We were 3 days out from leaving on our vacation to Wyoming/Montana when we had to cancel. We booked 4 properties with an online booking company. I called and told them our circumstances with the flood and told her we had to cancel our reservations. The customer service representative with the booking company got on the phone with all 4 properties and Hatchet Resort is the ONLY property that would not waive the cancellation fee. The customer service representative said I could call Hatchet Resort myself and see if he would reconsider. I called him and I told him our circumstances. I asked if he would please waive the cancellation fee but he refused. Since it is required that I give at least one star I did, however, I would have given this property zero stars because of his rudeness on the phone. We are looking forward to rescheduling our vacation next spring. We will reschedule with all properties except Hatchet Resort since they charged us $104.50 for the cancellation. This place is not a resort. It is a motel. There is nothing to do here. The guy front desk at the front desk was not very friendly. They make you pay $3 dollars for wifi and won't add it to your tab. There was not coffee or microwave in the room. You had to get it at the dinner at 7 a.m.. The view was of a trailer and a camper. You could here your neighboors conversations and banging around. The tv was old and small and only had 13 channels with no network televison. Almost everyone chekced in around 8 or 9 P.M. and left by 8 a.m.. Only stay here if there are no other rooms and you need a place to stay. The only good parts were the room was clean and the young staff was friendly. read more

We traveled throughout Yellowstone and thought the Hatchet Resort would be a perfect lodge. What a mistake. The hotel had been renovated within a few years and could have been very nice. But, the carpet was filthy. Sand had been tracked in through the front door and they hadn't bothered to vacuum it. We requested vacuuming and after they were done it was still sandy. The shower stall had been remodeled and had nice stone tile but the soap scum stuck to it was disappointing. The mattress on the beds looked like it was from World War II and was hard as a rock. The final straw was my wife waking to the sound of mice crawling through the attic. She was awake all night listening to it. We complained the next morning and they flatly denied the room had mice. They refused to refund our money for that night or the following two nights we had paid upfront for. We checked out that morning and are still arguing with them about a refund on the remaining nights. If management spent a little more time with motel upkeep they would be in much better financial shape. After we left we stayed at the Rustic Inn. Very nice. Log cabins, clean, no mice and luxurious. About the same amount of money. The Hatchet "motel" is a ripoff. They need new management. read more
