Stopped in for restaurant week but ended up ordering from the daily special menu. Our waitress was especially harried and not friendly. I think clipped and barely contained rage would be best way to describe it. She mentioned they were short-staffed but she was unprofessional in telling us constantly she was leaving after us and being upset when we asked for coffee and dessert. I get it. I waited tables but it was a bad experience bc we felt rushed and guilty. Despite that - the food we ordered was good and the menu had a lot of promising items I'd like to try. They also have a large tapas menu. I ordered the salmon entree with garlic green beans and mashed sweet potatoes. My fiancée and his dad ordered the paella and both absolutely loved it. For dessert we got the fresh fruit cobbler with ice cream. Flavor that night was peach. Follow them on Facebook for specials. We will come back bc we will cut them a break knowing how hard it's been. But paying customers aren't at fault either and should expect to be treated kindly if they're being polite and haven't done anything wrong. read more

This is the first time I've ever been to a restaurant waiting to be seated after going to look for a table coming back and then telling me they're too busy to serve us. The restaurant was only half full when they turned us away because they were too busy. They were happy to send us to their sister restaurant right next door. Absolutely understaffed, so much so they cannot keep up with the amount of people that they seat. As a result, orders get left in the kitchen too long or drink orders never get put in. The kitchen needs better supervision as dishes were served under cooked and cold after lengthy delays. They simply cannot handle a happy hour packed bar and full tables. read more

Great spot the service was amazing and there was only one waitress I don't remember her name but she was quick and super friendly! The inside of the restaurant was very dim, great place to go to have a private moment but groups are also welcome as well. For the inside to be small all the tables fit just right so you weren't crowded together, awesome job! Last the food, starting with the appetizer we order the Roasted peppers and goat cheese, simple and very good! It came with toasted crostini olive oil. We also order the Salmon En Papillote and Havana crab cakes. Everything was very good my only issue was the black beans tasted like they came out of the can and nothing for favor added to them. Pros: the food! I got the Parmesan encrusted salmon which was cooked perfectly and that crust, so delicious! My only gripe was the sides, it came with a corn and sweet potato 'salad' but those two don't quite go together. Would've been better to remove one and replace with a starch. 2 others at the table got the pork osso bucco and would not stop raving about it! Cons: their desserts weren't the greatest and they didn't comp, even though we were celebrating a birthday. Skip dessert, focus on dinner! Also, the reservation process was odd. They won't take reservations online, only by phone. Then the website says no same day reservations after 5pm but they open at 5pm. Unnecessarily confusing. Luckily we tried around 2pm and got someone, but seems like it would be simpler to have online reservations. Also, the bathroom decor was strange (half naked men photos all over the walls). Dinner at Havana was a hard life lesson in mediocrity. Let's start with the menu. Hoping for Cuban staples? Vaca Frita? Not here. Picadillo a la habanero? Phhht! Arroz con pollo- nope. Hey but salmon en papillote? Hell yeah that's on the menu. What, you knew Cuba is full of salmon, right? Fun fact: tuna sashimi is the very first item on the menu. No kidding. Pork osso bucco is there too in case you brought your friend who only eats Italian. We had the ropa vieja and the flank steak mojo. The wife's steak was shoe leather in so so sauce with ice cold green beans and back burner mashed that screamed indifference. My ropa was better but still uninspired. If there is a single actual Cuban in this kitchen, he/she needs a ticket home for an intervention. Why do places like this take a delicious cuisine and water it down? Or pretend we need a Cuban crab cake and chicken nachos on the menu? The drink menu is a minefield of sour mix heavy vaguely tropical garbage. So order a skinny blackberry mojito and some other crap and imagine what life would be like if people just trusted you to try something authentic and different. Or if they just gave a damn about the cuisine they are serving. Hasta luego, Havana. There's a Cuban wedge salad in hell just for you. read more

First visit to this location. Came in around 8ish on a Friday & it was packed! Host/hostess stand was attentive during our 30 min long wait. The waitress sold me on the Crab Stuffed Flounder w/ Brussel Sprouts. She said it was their "special, really good & a large cut of fish." My friend got the Osso Bucco just because it sounded cool.. HAHA. We were given a bread appetizer w/ some delicious creamy herb butter. I enjoyed the butter...bread was ok but, kept reminding me of can biscuit mix for some reason...acceptable nevertheless. When the food arrived I was taken back by my friend's HUGE hunk of pork shank served with risotto & grilled asparagus. It was bigger than my head! My dish cost more and was much smaller than his. I was bummed. I thought ok.. Maybe it tastes better than it looks. Not. It was ok just nothing to write home about. Standard fish and crab. I did enjoy the brussel sprouts and I don't normally eat them. However, the Osso Bucco were flavors that were different to me.. I'm thinking maybe in the way it was prepared. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it but, found myself sopping up my friend's plate, gnawing on the bone AND taking his leftovers home! I don't waste food. Last was the dessert.... Chocolate bread pudding w/ one scoop of ice cream! DEEEE-LI-SHUS... but, Can we have one more scoop of ice cream please?? By the end of our meal, I know I enjoyed myself so much that my fake eyelash was hanging at a 45 degree angle! Now, that's a good time!! Dim lighting, great vibe/atmosphere, delicious food, and exceptional service is the recipe for a perfect date night. Don't let the outside of the restaurant fool you. I've passed this place every day and assumed it was a mom and pop joint that just served sandwiches. As soon as you walk in, I honestly felt like I was in a different country. The aroma, atmosphere, and music made me feel like I was in Cuba. Ordered the clams picante, roasted red peppers & goat cheese, and the oyster Havana. Every dish was full of flavor and beautifully plated. Each bite made me want more (well all of it), but since I was on a first date, I was a bit shy and didn't pig out. It took a lot for me not to lick the plate clean. That's how good everything was! I am looking forward to coming back and trying their dinner items. I came with a friend for restaurant week but ordered off the regular menu. We wanted to try more things and they have a tapas menu. 1st thing is it is very dark in here. Definitely need to adjust to the lighting. You will definitely need your reading glasses. We started with Chicken Tostadas which were probably the best thing we had. We ordered the Chile Relleno next. My friend only took one bite. I didn't care for it much. I didn't like the texture or the sauce or the lack of flavor. We then ordered the cigar rolls with chicken and veggies. They were just ok. The tostones were next. The food was underwhelming. It was okay. Nothing to say WOW about. Not a lot of flavor. The drinks were good and so was the service. We each ordered 2 martinis and they were 1/2 off and delicious. I do not have pictures of anything because it was so dark. Despite not loving this I would go back and try again. I want to like it but it was ehhh. I will definitely give it a 2nd chance. read more

I went to Havana on Friday, December 28th around 7pm for dinner. I am very disappointed with the service I received. My whole experience from beginning to end was very disappointing. I brought my older sister and best friend for dinner, and once greeted by our server she had asked if we wanted to start off with anything to drink. She took my sisters order and walked away without asking my best friend or I if we would like anything as well. My sister had ordered a sangria and all my friend wanted was a sprite but was not given the opportunity to order one. All was forgiven and completely understood, but the situation was a little weird. Once we put our appetizers in we just needed a minute to order entrees. Once we put our entrees in, my sister and I had said we were going to split our meal. Our server had asked if we would like them on separate plates or just on one. We were really surprised by the offer, and the server had made it seem like it was complementary, so we said okay to splitting our meal. Once we finished our meals and were offered dessert, I had politely declined since we were full. Our server then said, "Oh mom must still be thinking about it." Which then turned into a awkward silence since she is my older sister. I understand that my friend and I may look young, but we are both 26 and 27. My sister was slightly offended, due to making her feel old, and so was I. At that point we just wanted to get out as fast as possible. Upon receiving our bill, I was surprised to see the $3 split charge. Had we known there was an extra fee we would have just separated it on our own. I had asked our server about it and asked that it be removed because she had offered it to us as if it was complementary. She said she would, but then the manager had said since it was written on the menu we had to pay it. Now, being a server of almost 10 years I completely get everything being written on the menu, and I can more than afford the $3 charge. It was just a principle of being made aware of it verbally if it was being offered by the server when clearly by our reactions, we thought it was on the house. Also, not at one point was I ever apologized to for the inconvenience from our server. I am not upset with the $3 charge. I am upset with the service I received and my server's attitude. I always tip 20% and last night was one of the few times I did not. After paying for our bill, our server decided to go out of her way to give me a five dollar bill. I guess it was her way of saying sorry without actually apologizing. I felt as if it was a slap in the face and very condescending. The instance of trying to pay me back is the reason for this email. I am born and raised Virginia Beach, and I love your restaurant. I have been coming to get your nachos over the last few years. I now live in New York, but really wanted to treat my sister and best friend to one of my favorite restaurants for the holidays. I have been looking forward to your nachos for weeks, and it very disheartening that I don't think I will be wanting to return again because of how condescending our server was by trying to give me $5. Again, I have been in the service industry for 10 years, and last night really hurt me to experience that. I am very understanding about the server life, as I still wait tables to this day. I don't know who is rating this food but what I experienced was by far the worst Cuban food I've ever tasted. I'd go far enough to say it was not Cuban food at all. It tasted like cafeteria food. The chicken was flavorless. The steak was the lowest grade. The maduros were dripping in a sauce, barely cooked. I was very disappointed in the food here. I've eaten at many Cuban restaurants and it's was the worst. No flavor whatsoever in their steak mojo, Maduro plantains tasted like they came out of a can, the signature "Havana Mojito" was just syrup and flat sprite with no mint in it, and the steak itself was so chewy, that my teeth literally cold not break it down enough to swallow it. Our server was polite enough to take the plantains off of the tab saying that he/she didn't care for them either. This food was terrible. I should've followed my instincts and walked out as soon as I walked into a full restaurant and didn't smell any spices. When people want Cuban food they want flavor. I expected the restaurant to be very busy. I expected it to be understaffed (2 servers on Valantine's is a joke, I didn't expect it to be THAT understaffed), I expected a long wait for my food. My girlfriend and I went to Havana on Valentine's Day. Had reservations for 6:30 and arrived around 6:25 to a pretty much empty restaurant and were seated promptly. After being seated, and while looking over our menus, we noticed the restaurant was filling up. After about 10 minutes of being seated and not one server stopping by to take our drink order, I was forced to get the attention of a passing server and inform her that we have been here for 10 minutes and a server has not been by to attend to us, and that tables that sat down after us already had their waters. It appears there was some miscommunication among the staff. While we were seated quickly, we were seated by a server rather than the host, and the server did not notify the other server who was assigned to our section. Anyway, they made up for it and offered us a free dessert. That was the only downfall of the night, and they did right by it. As for the food, we ordered the Lobster Cheesecake. Essentially it's lobster dip baked in the form of a piece of pie with a crust and served with warm flour tortilla chips. It was good. Would I order again? Probably not, but I've never had a crustacean themed cheesecake, so I can knock that one off the list. I ordered the Osso Bucco (Pork Shank). It was prepared well and tasted fine. The star of the dish, though, was the risotto. The menu states that t the Osso Bucco was to be served with mashed potatoes, but somehow risotto ended up on my dish, and after tasting the risotto, I was happy it did. Probably the best risotto I ever eaten. Creamy, tasteful and perfectly cooked. My girlfriend ordered from the Tapas menu, where she chose the Filet and chicken nachos. I didn't try the filet because it's always been a boring cut of meat for me, but I did have some nachos, another dish I never order. They were okay. Better than average. They did a good job with layering the meat and toppings so that the middle and bottom plated nachos were covered, not just the top. We chose the Key Lime pie for our complimentary dessert. We are both self proclaimed connoisseurs of Key Lime pie and their version fell a little flat for us. While the flavors were good, the pie was a bit to thin, dense and moist for us. I like a little lift and airiness to my Key Lime pie, and this just didn't have it. Despite the initial snafu, the service throughout the meal was exemplary, and I wouldn't hesitate going back in the future. read more

Came here on a Friday evening around 1045 not knowing it closed at 11, oops... this was my first time coming and hearing about this place. As we walked in, it had this soothing ambiance and dim lighting to go with it. Not loud, that you can actually make a conversation and hear everything your partner or group are saying. Came here for drinks, which I'm very impressed with. They had a variety of mixed cocktails, wine and beer... I was going for a mixed coctail, so I asked what alcoholic beverages are pretty popular and our bartender recommended their Mojitos! They had different Mojito flavors from Coconut, Raspberry, Mango Pineapple, Strawberry, Pomegranate, and much more. I tried the Mango Pineapple and the Strawberry, and it was so delicious that I kept sippin' away (I got pretty tipsy on the first Mojito, way to go). So as we were drinking away and having good talks and laughs, we noticed the staff were starting to clean up. Asked what time they closed and they said 11 (it was definitely past 11, oops) but the bartender was kind enough to let us stay to finish our drinks. Thanks! What a rad place. Nestled into a plaza with a papa johns had me worried but the minute I walked in I was engulfed with delicious aromas, laughter of friends grabbing drinks at the bar and friendly faces. Wow. Great staff and service, amazing drinks, amazing food specials. Speaking of food, can I get a HELL to the yes, the flavors and their own touch on traditional Cuban dishes had me dreaming of my next visit. I wish I could rate this place higher than 5 stars. Crazy sexy place. I came in around 10:30 last Friday night after having dinner at One Fish Two fish. We took a seat at the bar and enjoyed some wine and martinis. You may know this place to be located in a few spots on the Southside but in the last three years the "chain" has broken up and all are own and operated independently. It's the place where beautiful people go. Doll up, come after work or go casual. All is fine there. I just love the atmosphere and the vibe you get out of this place. It's a great date night spot where you can just hang and talk to the person or group you're with. Very tasty food with a nice selection of daily specials. I elected to get a duck special which was tasty but had one fatty gristly piece. My wife went with a salmon special with goat cheese which she also found to be extremely tasty. The highlight of the meal was actually the Maduros (sweet fried plantains). My too big complaints were the noise level and the temperature. Despite being mostly empty on a rainy weekday evening another very loud table was seated directly behind us. In an empty restaurant there is no reason not to spread people out some. The second is that it was a rainy and slightly chilly late August evening but the airconditioning and ceiling fans were going full blast making for a very chilly dining experience. Don't expect a traditional Cuban meal here, there are only four things Cuban about this place. The name, The name of the dishes, the music, and the photos of Hemingway in Havana. It appears to be an extremely popular spot specially the bar during happy hour. A completely different twist on Cuban dishes our meal was a complete miss, what they call Moros was white rice with reddish beans thrown over it. My dinner guest had chicken jerk which was overwhelmed with cinnamon powder. Bar was popular and the locals seem to love the place. I'll give it 3 stars for ambience, drinks and friendly staff. OMG so good! i couldn't stop eating it. i was literally eating the whole thing. haha my boyfriend loves peppers so he really enjoyed this dish as well. for dinner, he ordered the cubano sandwich and it was good! we've had a few cubans from different places and this one wasn't OMG gotta have it, but it was still pretty good! i ordered the Traditional Ropa Vieja and it wasn't my favorite. i got it based off the server's recommendation but it wasn't doing it for me. there was something about it that just didn't hit my taste pallet in the right spot. or maybe because i was just so into the app it didn't mix well with this dish. for dessert we ordered the cobbler and that was to die for! i really enjoyed that a LOT. they have different flavors i think every day. it was seriously SUPER good. you gotta try it! i'd def come back but maybe order something different for my entree. great for date nights, and even families. read more
