I came in here last week to drop off a flier and promised the hostess I was would return...I returned and it filled my heart to see the flier still standing. That alone shows integrity which society is falling short of now days. Less about the flier and more about the restaurant and meal. This place needs to be featured on Portland's Yelp for best Indian Cuisine in town. I sat and ate, and kept eating and kept eating. The food here was really good! I loved the samosas with the mint sauce, so delicious. And the Chicken Biryani was so flavorful! We got the bread basket and got to try all the kinds of Naan, incredible. I will say the staff was awkward and wasn't rude but wasn't necessarily kind either. Haveli is a treat. It's a great place to take a group, family or date because the more people you bring the more amazing food you can share. The madras curry (yellow in photo) with shrimp is my favorite but we love the vindaloo too. Also the butter chicken is delicious. You can't go wrong. The Gobhi 65 was fresh, great quality and had a mild level of heat. The Paneer Masala was authentic, with a perfect balance of spice. We requested it spicy and we loved it. Also less creamy but very flavorful. Comes with rice The garlic naan was good, but for the price we felt like we should've gotten more. The ambiance is nice and clean. Everything tasted amazing when we went in recently on a sunny weekday. I ordered a mild spice butter chicken masala and my wife ordered a medium spice sole biryani. We both were well pleased with the spice levels (plenty of flavor for mild but no kick, plenty of flavor and some kick for the medium per my wife's report). We'd absolutely go back. The rajasthani curry was new to me and had great spicy flavor, however, it came with a significantly smaller portion than the other curry, which was a bit disappointing. I like Haveli overall and am very excited to have an Indian restaurant on 23rd. They have good lunch deals and it's very easy to walk in. I wish they had better service given how slow it usually is when I have gone. The ambiance is good, the restaurant is very clean and modern. The paneer masala is my favorite but it's a little more vegetable forward than I'm used to. I wish they had mattar paneer. The garlic naan is delicious. read more

Our family went here based on a recommendation, and it was not a great experience. The food was just ok, but the service was strange to say the least. Our server seemed almost annoyed that we were there, and was not attentive. She also would sit at a corner table to visit with some diners, who apparently were her friends, while we sat and waited for our bill. Overall I did not feel that this is a welcoming environment, and would not recommend it. Perhaps they prefer patrons to order takeout, and find in-house diners as an annoyance? read more

Oh Haveli, I have been putting off this review for way too long. Their masalas are heaven on earth, and every bite makes it clear they know exactly what they are doing. The cooks and the Chef here deserve all the praise. This place will not disappoint you. The portions are generous, food is flavorful, and everything comes out hot (careful!) and fresh. The service is direct, but always respectful, which I honestly appreciate. You can tell they care for their guests. And the price is great for what you get. After reading all the positive reviews for Haveli, I decided to order food from them via GrubHub today. The food arrived on time and nicely packaged. I ordered Aloo Gobi, Malai Kofta and for dessert Halwa (a favorite of mine). Unfortunately, the food was some of the worst Indian food I've ever tasted. Believe me when I tell you that I have eaten A LOT of Indian food. The Aloo Gobi came with peas which made me think they had some leftover Aloo Mutter and decided to just add some gobi to it. I have never seen peas in Aloo Gobi. The Malai Kofta was a pale yellow shade with an equally pale flavor. It was awful. In fairness, I did order everything MILD cuz my dining partner can't handle spice. But flavor and spice are not the same thing. A lack of heat should not mean a lack of flavor. The halwa was the tastiest thing ordered. It pains me to write negative reviews but this is how honesty works. There is far better Indian cuisine in the Portland area. read more

New favorite Indian restaurant. The chicken biryani is fantastic - it's properly slowly cooked with lots of great spices you have to pick out (anise, clove, cardamom pods, cinnamon... my mouth is watering). The chicken is cooked in it, and was cooked beautifully. This is a very different experience than almost any other Indian restaurant that mixes spices and chicken cooked separately into already cooked rice. Apna Chaat Bhavan is my usual stop for Biryani, but this is on another level, I haven't found any other local restaurants that come close (Bombay Cricket Club had great biryani back in the day too). It's not Hyderabad Dum style, it is a Punjabi regional style as I understand. The palak paneer was clearly made with fresh spinach, it had an excellent intense fresh spinach flavor, a big difference from the mild bland stuff most restaurants serve. The paneer was also fantastic, with a great flavor and texture - not the softer/more bland style often served. Haveli serves proper homemade food with good fresh ingredients, big portions, very nicely balanced flavors. I'm so happy this opened because I love good Indian food, and this is by a long shot my new favorite spot in the Portland area. read more

We had a "Traditional Christmas" meal of Onion Bhaji, Afghani Malai Boti, Lamb Seekh kebab, Tandoori chicken, and Palak curry. We had lunch here two days earlier and we're so impressed by the quality of the food we came back and we grateful they were open in Christmas! The chai tea and salty lasei were delicious also! Living in Tigard, I haven't been to downtown Portland in months, much less the Northwest part of town. However, I had a medical appointment in NW Portland, so afterward I decided to stop in at nearby Haveli. Since it was 3pm, I was the only one there. I ordered the chicken tikka kebab and garlic naan. The chicken was firm and tender but not mushy, with just the right amount of heat. The onion and peppers were the perfect compliment. The naan was also delicious with the flavor of garlic and butter. The server was friendly and checked in frequently to see how I was doing. During my meal she got a call for reservations for a big party. Haveli has been open for 6 months and people in the area need to stop in or order to-go. They deserve a lot of business. read more

The coloring of the main dish sauces is a little different from what used to, but who cares when it tastes as good as this! These are not canned sauces, the food is homemade and I highly recommend! I had the tender chicken which came out sizzling on a cast-iron pan, had a beautiful Pecora with delicious mint chutney and sweet, chutney. And the service is extremely intentional and kind. Overall a great spot if you're looking for quality Indian food. Sit down restaurant located in a lovely little neighborhood with decent amount of parking in the area. Food came out at a good pace and was very yummy. I enjoy spice so I asked for a medium spicy and it had a good kick to it. A slightly milder spice level would have been good enough for me tho lol. Had surgery at the nearby hospital and wanted Indian food very badly when I woke up. Got the garlic nan and butter chicken. Nan was perfectly cooked, bubbly, buttery and great garlic taste.
