The first time Bona colored my hair (full highlights) it came out great. After that her work became sloppy. it seems like she did not care. The last time I went, she left the bleach on too long and damaged my hair. While I was waiting, she took one of her friends and did her hair. Went to Valbono to get my haircut and my hair is so uneven! There is pieces longer then others! I'm so upset how my hair turned out, feel like she didn't listen to what I wanted. Seemed like she just rushed through my haircut! I literally hate my hair! Spent money on a haircut that was messed up, do better! I was peering through hair salons in Staten Island on Yelp and came across Haven. I was first impressed with all of the wonderful reviews, secondly the pictures of amazing work! I went to the salon on Saturday, as a dark brown brunette, wanting a drastic change, and I got it! Bona does an absolutely amazing job. She and her staff are extremely friendly. They lost a client today. Bona used to be my angel but sadly not anymore. Showed Bona a picture OF MYSELF with the color I wanted. She said no prob and I agreed to the up-charge because she seemed confident. Doesn't give me the color I ask for, and then when I bring this to her attention she pretty much says she didn't do it bc she didn't want to and was afraid I wouldn't like it....sounds like she was insecure about her own work from the start bc HOW AM I NOT GONNA LIKE A COLOR IVE HAD IN THE PAST?!?! Plus, it's not her call to make!! We go back and forth for 10 mins with her trying to convince me otherwise with a bunch of nonsense, as if I haven't been dying my hair red for almost a decade. As the OWNER all she does is take $10 off. Nah, that's not right. They're nice ppl but that's not how you remedy this situation when your client is upset. Mind you I stayed civil/polite af but that got me nowhere. A waste of $250..something I really couldn't afford to waste considering the times. When I went to the salon I asked for light brown balayage, I did not want blonde as I had that in the past. I showed the women the first picture and she said would be able to do it. When she was done, the salon was closing so I paid and rushed out. The next morning I looked at my hair in the sunlight and it was completely yellow blonde (second picture). Upset and frustrated, I called the salon, told them my experience and they said they would fix it. Again I specified I want cool tone light brown, which the lady responded she would do. To my shock, my hair was the same color as before I even came to the salon! $265 later plus 6 hours in the salon and it looks as if my hair wasn't even dyed. Now I have to wait 6-8 weeks before the glaze washes out of my hair. I wish the women would have said this wasn't possible or had someone else do it. read more

Found this place initially because they had a Yelp promotion going on. It is now my go-to for consistently good service and a great blowout. Michele is the sweetest - she really gives the best beach wave blowout and always makes sure I'm totally happy with the final product. I've also gotten my hair blown out by Angelique who is fantastic at giving my hair such great body and so knowledgeable about hair maintenance and care. I hate to write negative reviews but I'm really displeased. I thought I would give this salon a try based on good reviews. I went in for a single process color in dark brown. Good color and gray coverage was what I was looking for. I was very disappointed. My gray roots came out light red. It looks terrible. I told the colorist and she said I needed to dye my hair black! No I have been coloring my hair for years and dark brown covers my gray just fine if it's done right. She stated if I come back they will fix it but I wont be going back there again. Very unhappy. Now I have a wedding to go to in the next couple of days and my hair is a mess. read more

I recently had my hair colored and cut by Valbona. It was my first time going to Haven Color Bar and I felt so welcomed. Before my appointment, I was a bit nervous because this would be the first time trying a new salon in years. When my hairstylist recently announced that she was leaving the salon I've been going to for years, I was upset and shocked because I take pride with my hair and just don't want to go anywhere. I did some research before coming to Haven Color Bar and I decided to take a chance. I'm so glad I did as Valbona was incredibly kind and explained Balyage process and what color would be good for my skin tone. When I first started going to Haven Color Bar I had a great experience, but slowly that changed. Each time, after the first time, the work done on my hair was of lower and lower quality. Finally, the last time I went, she dyed my roots in a shade that was way darker than what I wanted, or that matched the rest of my hair. She also made excuses for her low quality work, and pressured sales and to write reviews on various websites. read more

The woman who is the owner.was very combative when I first got there. I asked her for discount on the toner being that I'm paying her directly and not going through Groupon which is how I found this place and Groupon will take about half of their earnings... She stated well you already getting a discount you want another? I never understand the toner thing... You get a price for highlights but it doesn't include the toner? Honestly she could've charged me at least $20 and not a full $40 for the toner being that I didn't pay Groupon I paid her directly. They kept pushing for me to buy products which was very annoying to me therefore it really does determine whether I go back to a place or not The blowout was a very lazy one, when I blow dry my hair it looks very healthy, it doesn't look like I have dead ends. She kept saying that I needed a haircut, if you don't hold the brush at the ends of my hair and bend it under it will look damaged because i have layers, and that's just what she did. I feel she purposely did a shitty job with blowing out my hair so that she can suggest I get a Keratin blow out from her or a haircut. She blow dried my hair it barely using the brush and relied on the flat iron and pulling my hair out with it. Then on top of the frizzy horrible blow out she put no product in my hair afterwards. Cheap and lazy. You are using Groupon to gain customers but being cheap- you can bet I will not be returning. Then she was scared to tell me she was the owner at the end... Probably thinking I wouldn't leave her a tip, but I did leave her what I think was a generous tip as well as her assistant. I still don't see that many highlights in the back of my hair. I was asking her for suggestions but she was rude in the beginning i almost walked out. I could've went to the hair salon down the block. She acted like her stuff was the best. Her color was ok nothing that great. I apologized to her for being flustered when I got there but she wasn't the greatest either with her responses. She never apologized for her rude behavior either. Been living in my apartment in NYC for years. Needed the floors and kitchen redone. I hired John and his crew to re do the floors with cherry wood and they turned out amazing. They also re did the counter tops in my kitchen and turned out fantastic. I would definitely hire them again as well as recommend them for any job. read more

I waited about three weeks to write this review, to see how my hair would do. I had an appointment on 7/17 and it was not a good experience at all. I wanted dark brown hair with red balayage, and the red is now almost completely gone from my hair. At this point its a faint dark purple. On top of that, I was at the salon for SIX AND A HALF HOURS, in part because when she was coloring my hair she teased my entire head before she put color on it and my hair was SO tangled, I literally had to stand up in the middle of the salon and brush my own hair out after two women attempted to untangle it for at least 45 minutes. When I brought up it was because my hair had been teased - she kept saying that my hair was so long and wavy. This actually just upset me even more because how do you do hair for a living but not know how to handle long, wavy/curly hair? I've had balayage a number of times, and nobody has ever teased my hair in the process. On top of that, I had some slight teal in my hair (bored quarantine activity) so she had to strip that out which I totally understand. When I was sitting there for probably 2 hours, I questioned if it was okay to have the stripping solution on my hair for that long. She left it in for about another 2 hours for a total of about 4 hours, and now that section of my hair looks burned and dry, when my hair was very healthy before. She also barely actually cut my hair. I only wanted a trim, but I think she only trimmed my bangs, and a portion of the rest, but definitely not my whole head. I had to book with someone else later this month hoping she will be able to fix my hair. I'll never go back here and I wish I could get my money (and my wasted time) back. read more
