I ordered a buffet from Haverty's, which was delivered on the due date. Haverty's decided that there was a slight defect and would deliver another new one in a couple weeks. They did exactly that but the delivery men left the shelves out. When my son caught them before leaving, one of them entered my home with a huge attitude because he was "inconvenienced". However, it wasn't an inconvenience when we spent $10,000 in a month at their store. Customer service goes a long way, so I wont be giving them additional business. read more

When we called the salesperson to ask where our bedroom set was she had no idea. She forgot to add one more bedroom set to our order. She ordered the mattress and box spring but not the bed. BUYER BEWARE - HAVERTY BOWIE, MD LOCATION I purchased a brown leather recliner chair as a Christmas gift for my 86 year old mother. It was a floor model sale item. 8 months later (August 2023), certain places on the leather recliner started to fade. The brown recliner had white faded spots throughout the chair, including the back of the recliner. Even though we had the recliner for only 8 months, it looked as though the recliner had aged 10 years. I reported this incident to Haverty and was told to complete claim form online and upload pictures. After I submitted my claim and uploaded pictures, a few weeks later, I received a call from their rude customer service office in Georgia and was informed the spots must have came from oils of the body of the person using the chair and there is nothing we can do for you. If that was the case, how did the spots get on the back of the recliner. This didn't make any sense to me! I requested something in writing to confirm the conversation and the customer service rep declined to send me an email. Before this situation, I thought Havertys Furniture in Bowie, MD was an upscale furniture store with top quality furniture. However in reality, the furniture is a very low grade of furniture. I've purchased several pieces from Havertys in recent years, and I must say that I'm always impressed with the quality and workmanship of their furniture. I usually like to scope things out online first and then go into the store with a game plan, that way I can have an idea as to what interests me. The staff is always knowledgeable about the products and make wonderful recommendations. This particular visit, I came in with a certain item I was eyeing online for a few days and the sales associate, Barbara, came over to me and quickly wrote up my sales order. Quick, simple and to the point. The sales associates are never pushy and don't follow you around like a lost puppy either, which is a plus! I love the fact that the majority of the furniture has different patterns/colors you can choose yourself. So like the commercial says, I actually feel liked I'm designing it myself. The gentlemen that deliver your furniture have always been very professional as well. They use shoe covers and make sure they don't mark up your walls or knock any of your items down. I know for me, I always have my items delivered in a timely manner and within the time frame they tell me. If the items are small, Haverts gives you the option of picking it up directly from the store, which is a plus and can save money. I receive emails and ads in the mail regarding upcoming sales and other promotions. The actual sales floor is a cornucopia of furniture, rugs, lamps and accessories for the entire home. Everything is accessible and neat and they have wonderful ideas for how to set your furniture up or decorate your home. It's definitely not the cheapest furniture store in town, but I'll pay extra for quality any day. I recently ordered from Havertys. The day of my delivery they cancelled when they had arranged and told us the date. When I asked when they could reschedule after I called them repeatedly they gave me a date of 10 days later and no apology? Yes, I called them to reschedule. Shouldn't that be the other way around? Go somewhere else. I'm a paying customer waiting for them to give me my product and they could care less! I'm astounded by the awful service and attitude toward their customers. By the way, the reason they cancelled the delivery is their team broke our product by incorrectly loading it and told me they had the truck checked before leaving. Who would lie to their customers? We bought 2 leather recliner sofas and 1 matching recliner chair several years ago. We take very good care of them and it's really disappointing that you pay for leather, ONLY to notice years later, the material between the cushions is not real leather. It has peeled off, cracked etc. Now the rest of the furniture ( the top, back, top of cushions has real leather and is still looking good. This company needs to let people know if the ENTIRE piece of furniture is all leather before you buy it. If we had known this, we would not have bought any of it. We came into THIS STORE to purchase several thousands of furniture. We decided to not make the purchase because our rep was not in. While I'm the store, my daughter saw a clearance portrait that she wanted. We were offered 50% off the piece that was marked at $189; however, the same piece was originally $129 on line. Instead of honoring the original on-line price the "bad weave, and cheap shoe reap said" I'm not even going to put myself down for half of the commission because it means nothing to me!" I purchased two beds over thirteen months ago, and I waited patiently for them. Last week, one of them arrived to me broken. The broken bed was left by the team for me to deal with. Customer Service at every level has been ABYSMAL. I have spoken to the store employees, office manager and branch manager as well as numerous customer service representatives and supervisors. Not a single employee of Haverty's has been able to do more than refund the $199 delivery fee. Not only has every person with whom I have spoken been unhelpful, RUDE and/ or condescending, no one is on the same page about what has happened or how to resolve the situation. Now, after spending multiple days off work waiting for the delivery (which never showed the first time), I have a heavy and cumbersome BROKEN bed in my home that I cannot use and that I must dispose of and replace myself. As a note, we ordered most of the furniture on LABOR DAY and it was in stock and reserved (supposedly, it's a little fishy).While we LOVED our experience shopping, and our bed set that was ordered at a later date was delivered on time that we love (again, a little fishy) we are not satisfied with the sofa, rug and ottoman that was ordered back on Labor Day, and still has not been delivered. We moved into our house before Thanksgiving (2020), with all of the furniture that was not custom, and in stock, to be delivered a week prior. We were not notified until we checked the portal the weekend prior to the move that delivery was no longer scheduled after we watched the rep place the delivery date and confirm it's in stock. We reached out to our sales rep, who only then told us 'oh, yes things are delayed, it is not available to ship until the new year'. We were notified that there is nothing they can do, and nothing can be scheduled for delivery until the new year. We then asked if there is anything our rep can do, and they mentioned they would see if we can get any additional rebates but we have not heard back. This was all ordered in September with communication ending in early November. We spent close to $10,000 dollars with Haverty's for this order and have received only about 40% of what was paid for, yet everything is in stock. We are completely understanding of COVID and the stress this has put on the company, supply chain and employees, but the lack of communication is just unacceptable when we purposely bought items in stock to be delivered before we moved. AGAIN, they have great furniture and employees, but this was a BIG miss and the ball was dropped on this one. We have painters and other projects on hold because of this. HIGHLY disappointed. Please make sure to stay on top of your rep and their manager at this location. We ordered other furniture from a different company a couple weeks later (local) that were honest with their delivery and have kept us up to date on where we slot in the system. They have a pretty wide selection of things and the prices aren't too bad either. The trouble comes in the service. I have bought two pieces of furniture from them now. The first, a couple of years ago, I had delivered. The delivery guys were great but it took an extra three days beyond their original delivery date for it to show up. The item kept "not being loaded" onto the truck. This time around I choose to do store pickup, despite the terrible pickup hours being only in the middle of the workday, to avoid the whole delay again. Too bad! Once again the item "didn't make it onto the truck" so pickup is delayed by two days. For the prices they are asking for their stuff, they really need to sort out their delivery system. Please don't get the warranty with Guardsman. They will not come to your home to fix it. I have been trying since April and still no one came to fix my furniture. The lady in the back of the store said I can get my money back if I haven't use my warranty, which I haven't on a sofa and then I told her that and she still told me I couldn't get my money back on the warranty. I have bought a few furniture from them and this is how they're treating me? Walking in this store, I was interested in just about all their products. Sales men must be on commission since I always seem to get more than a few of them offering to help. I've very disappointed being my first purchase from this company. I purchased the Bravada bedroom set in January of last year, over the past few months I've been noticing the lacquer seems to be fading and the furniture is getting scratched up. One piece even has some bucking as if the room it's sitting in is too hot? Hoping that I will have problems with this company! This is just a quick update on the delivery service. Perfect. That's about it. First, they e-mail and call with lots of reminders that they're coming and when. Two days before, it's a four hour window. The day before it's a two hour window. Second, they give you a link to a "Follow the Truck" site which shows you where you are on the list and where the truck is in relation to your delivery. Once they deliver to the place before you, it even gives an ETA for your place. The guys that delivered were great. They came in, got an idea where the furniture was going to go, bought it in, assembled it and left. They explained everything, answered questions, made sure we were happy. We purchased a family rooms set - a sofa and two chairs from Havertys. The customer service was fine, but the quality has been more than disappointing. We chose a set on display, and after several months, the sofa had to be replaced because the fabric was pilling so terribly that it actually itches to sit on. They helped us pick out a new fabric, and I stressed I wanted something that would not pill. Well, the new sofa was delivered and we've had it for many months, and it's in horrible shape. Not only did it pill horribly, but since we chose a darker color, the pills show so badly that we keep a blanket on top of the cushions at all times. I've given up on the situation but will never buy upholstered furniture from Havertys again. I should also note that our occasional chair cushions are almost completely flat. I'm just biding my time until I can replace everything with something else. We had purchased an old house and have been renovating it. Everything is perfect except the furniture. Was recommended to check this place out by a friend after making a move. At first glance I was amazed at the furniture selection. Was greeted by a sales woman (Florence) who at first seemed moderately friendly. However, once I told her my price range, she continued to push pieces above that threshold at me. When I repeatedly explained to her that those items were out of my budget, she continued to laugh under her breath. When I was greeted by her coworkers who were more than willing to help me she was extremely ill mannered towards them. Her interest was only in making a commission from my sale. Additionally, I am not sure what the dress code is in this particular establishment but her attire is far from appropriate in any work setting. Recently purchased furniture from this Haverty's location. I can't say enough how bad management is. I received a call that my bedroom set that was on back order until January would be arriving sooner. Excitement for me until I get a call saying its for pick up and not delivery after being told it would be delivered by a third party company. After talking to the salesperson she informed me that I would have to reschedule my furniture for later in the month. So, I go in to talk to the manager and now I'm being told that it isnt their 3rd party company and it's not 100% guaranteed that I will receive my furniture on my scheduled date. They will know the day before it my furniture will be on the truck. Now I have scheduled my pick up with a 3rd party company, have to pay them more money and my furniture isn't guaranteed and the manager doesnt really care. Well here it is, new years eve and not 15 minutes into my delivery window from 6:15-8:45, they cancelled my delivery and set it out for ANOTHER WEEK without my permission. Their excuse...oh the drivers are heading back to the warehouse...with my BED AND SOFA mind you. No place to sit, no place to sleep for a week?!? I think not. Recently purchased a bedroom set from this store, overall very positive experience. Sales person who helped me was knowledgable and informative but not pushy, didn't follow me around the whole time I was just looking like sales persons did at other furniture stores. Prices were not too bad, I spent a little more than I intended but definately could tell the furniture was very good quality. Was able to negotiate a little off the final price since it was around Presidents' Day weekend. Delivery service was great, came during the window of time they said they would in the morning. Sent an email that allowed me to track where exactly the delivery truck was and it's estimated ETA. Delivery guys did a great job bringing in and setting up all the furniture, even though they had to climb stairs they didn't leave even one scuff mark on the walls. I visited this store again in September 2016 and this time I actually made a purchase! The furniture at this store is pricey but it's quality furniture that will last for years. I purchased the Katy sofa and will probably be going back in a few months to purchase the Katy chairs. So, even though the furniture is pricey the quality of the furniture is exceptional (with loads of fabric selections; firm-no sag furniture cushions; and one of the best warranties around); and the customer service from the sales staff, finance personnel, to delivery personnel is fantastic. My husband and I purchased a recliner from Havartys during their President's Day sale. I was actually surprised at how smoothly the whole thing went. We saw the chair online (which also listed the price, and the sales discount), and we were able to use the website to confirm that the chair was on the floor at the Bowie store. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by a very helpful salesman, who took us right to the chair. We checked it out, asked a few questions, and made our purchase. The whole process, from start to finish, took about 25 minutes. I've had some pretty dismal experiences in furniture stores, where it felt more like buying a car than furniture. But Havartys was great, and we left feeling good about the purchase. Delivery went smoothly, too, for the most part. Our delivery was scheduled for the following Tuesday, and we were told we would get more information over the weekend (as to a delivery window). We received a call on Saturday confirming the delivery and giving us a five-hour window. Then we received another call on Sunday narrowing things down to two hours. We received a follow-up email on Monday confirming the delivery time, and providing a link to their "Follow the Truck" feature (which allows you to track the progress the truck is making so you'll know exactly when your furniture will arrive). And we received another call Monday afternoon, checking to make sure we had received the other calls and the email. This is really great service, better than any we've gotten from any other store. That said, our delivery ended up over an hour late (our delivery window was 12:15-2:15, and the truck showed up at 3:25). Even so, we were easily able to keep track of the truck on the "Follow the Truck" website, so we knew what was happening and it wasn't a big deal. The two men who arrived with the truck were friendly and professional, and they did a great job bringing in our huge recliner, setting it up where we wanted it, and making sure it worked properly. I purchased approximately $20,000 worth of furniture from this place and once I started using it it literally fell apart. I paid about $3,600 for a sideboard and a dining room table and chairs. The cushions were in such sorry shape when they delivered them I had to call the store the next day and complain. They ended up having to replace them all. The sideboard, which has felt lined slots for silverware, were merely "felted" over. I had to take a knife and cut the felt over the slots in order to use the drawer to store silverware. I have since moved and I noticed a sliver of wood missing off a drawer on the front of one of the nightstands. Turns out it is made from particle board with a veneer front! A king size mattress with a pillow top began sagging from day one and within a month had collapsed over 2 inches. They made a big deal about sending someone out to measure the sag, but once he saw how bad it was they ended up replacing the mattress. I have saved the best for last. I paid $1,000 for a rug which was a cream color with black crosses arranged on it in a geometric pattern. A years worth of weekly vacuuming has removed nearly all of the pattern! Do yourself a favor; save yourself a ton of money and bunches of headaches and aspirins and shop elsewhere! read more

I purchased a curio and went to pick up my item and it was missing the shelves. I drove almost an hour to pick it up. I stood at the customer service counter 20 min before being waited on. I stood the counter for 5 minutes while the guy talked on the phone to another customer complaining about damages to their house caused by their delivery men. I was instructed to pull around back to pick up my delivery and they called the employee over the loud speaker and a response in the intercom said he was at lunch. I am NOT happy about driving an hour back home and unpacking my Curio to discover it was missing its shelves. To add insult to injury I placed this order 11/28 and had to wait for it to be shipped to find out the shelves are missing. I will NOT be going back to Haverty's in BOWIE, MD!! read more

A complaint was filed about the inappropriate scary, rude and unprofessional behavior that I was subjected to on Tuesday April 11, 2017 at 9:00 am, when one of Haverty's delivery drivers arrived at my home. He came to my home and stated that he had a chair for delivery; I let him in the house and I stated to him that he was supposed to pick up a sofa. He stated he was not going to pick up the sofa because it was not on his route (he had a device in his hand and he stated the information was not in the device). I told him I was going to call customer service to verify that he was supposed to pick up the sofa (i.e., since I had to take off of work 3 times prior to that day and I would like the sofa picked up that day). Without any provocation from me, He said "fuck you". I told him to get out of my house. He told me "fuck you, you bitch". His language was extremely demeaning, threatening, and intimidating as well as being personally upsetting. Due to his unfounded aggression and erratic behavior, I now feel nervous and have apprehension that he may come back and harm me or my property (i.e., since he has my address and phone number). Further, the Assistant told me he had just started riding with the driver and that the driver was aggressive. The Assistant apologized for the driver. When Customer Service came on the line, the Customer Service representative told me to tell them to wait and take the sofa and that she would put the information into the system and to stay until she completed the transaction.. She told them she was putting the information in the system and to stay until she completed the transaction. The driver stormed to the truck and told his assistant to get in the truck and drove off without the sofa (i.e., after being instructed by Customer Service to take the sofa). While his Assistant and the Customer service representative apologized for his behavior, it does not correct the fact that it happened and Haverty's needs to ensure that it does not occur with me or any of your other customers. It is unconscionable that Haverty's has a person such as that racist and sexist delivery man as an employee serving as a representative of your business. read more

Had a great experience. Marva greeted me at just the proper time. I didn't feel jumped on and was just ready to speak with someone. I had been dreading having to buy a recliner and adjustable bed. She didn't have the exact recliner I had wanted but showed me a few with similar features. She took her time with me. I never felt rushed or pressured. She knew her product lines very well. Was so observant while I was trying the mattresses, she could tell I wasn't getting enough support. I'm not sure how she knew, but she was correct. I have made my first and last purchase from Havertys. We bought a bedroom set and scheduled delivery for a full 2 weeks later...the day we would be moving into our new home. Although the delivery came within the time originally scheduled, "someone" neglected to put the correct rails for the bed on the truck. That was aSaturday. The delivery for the rails was rescheduled for the following Wednesday, after I argued when they tried to schedule it for the following Saturday. Wednesday came and around 6:30 we called because they had not been delivered yet. Well... they told us that there would be no delivery, because the rails had not been placed on the truck!! Delivery for the bed rails was rescheduled, so Havertys won with the Saturday delivery schedule after all. Imagine our surprise when the delivery men showed up on the following Saturday with bed rails, but.....wait for it... NO SLATS!!!! Again, we had to call the service line, where we were told they could be delivered the next week! We ended up calling the store and asking if they had any slats available for us to pick up because there was NO way we were trusting them to "put the item on the truck" again. The next Tuesday, Havertys shows up with............ a set of BED RAILS but still not even ONE slat!!! (If you will recall, the rails had already been delivered and slats had been picked up). We asked that they simply drill the rails in for us while they were there, which they did. So now, at least we had a fully assembled bed. One would think that the drama would have been over, except for the fact that yesterday we got a call from Havertys attempting to...drum roll please...SCHEDULE THE DELIVERY OF OUR ITEMS!!! Having no idea of what these "items" could possibly be, we haven't bothered to return the call. There is a serious disconnect between the store, customer service, warehouse, and delivery crew. I will not be looking forward to them sorting out this mess because I won't be buying anything from the store ever again. read more

simply put, i like haverty's. they have a good selection of home furnishings and the sales people are nice, competent and helpful w/o being too pushy. the only exception is one experience i had where the sales guy hit on me mid-sale, in a sort of creepy way. i actually left w/o purchasing b/c i didn't want to give this guy my personal information/address for delivery. :-/ other than that, i've had good experiences w/ everyone else, every time. i've purchased a bedroom set, kitchen table and chairs set, barstools, and a shelving unit from haverty's. deliveries have always been on time and even better, EARLY on in the service window. (i think they're the only ppl who don't come at 5:59 when your service window is 12-6!) the delivery guys are really good. i have some very difficult stairs in my house (you know the up a few, then a landing and turn, up a few more then another landing and turn, rinse and repeat x 3 kind) and they've never scratched, scraped, or damaged anything - not the walls, bannisters or the furniture being delivered. they are always friendly and courteous. i'll likely go back when/if i need to buy more. read more

Not happy with Havertys - Purchased items with cash with the understanding that all the items were in stock and would be delivered. When delivered, all were taken off the truck and placed in the house. Checked over the items and one of the tables was cracked. Order was refused and re-loaded on the truck. Now I find out that the tables are out of stock (now I know why they delivered a broken one to me) and will not be available for delivery until mid-September. So, now Haverty's has my $$$, I do not have the furniture promised nor have they refunded the delivery fee as promised or made any other concessions. Salesperson has yet to call me back - the manager does call though. So I sit and wait ... oh, guess what, I just got a survey request form Havertys saying that my issue has been resolved and to fill out the survey - but even that doesn't work! I already had a second purchase in mind for the living room - that's not going to happen now until this is resolved.
