I've never had a problem accessing my unit. The fact that you can come after hours helps a lot since I work during normal business hours. I wish the covered parking was a little bigger. Even with a 4 door sedan it's a tight squeeze to get in and out. Most of the time I park outside and just walk back and forth with a cart. Check the pricing and unit sizes in person at the main office. Just seeing the numbers online and then physically seeing it taped out so you understand the size is eye opening. read more

Needed a storage right away and luckily came across Hawaii Self Storage Kapolei-West. Went with them because of their awesome reviews. Emailed them first for availability and they responded with a day. Then made an appointment to visit them, filled out paper ahead, purchased my locked, and made the deposit. They were friendly and advised based on my storage need and was able to find the perfect one I needed. Was advised on the rules and that was it. Rental was spacious, clean, and secured. Gave 35 days notice of check out, no issues with that and they responded within a day. Clean out my unit, got my lock, and checked-out with the office. No issues. Melveen and her team were awesome to talk to and were super helpful. I'll be coming back again for sure when I need a storage. If you need storage, check out Hawaii self storage Kapolei West. Upon entering the main office I was greeted by Nohea Who was quick to help me give me quotes of prices of the specific size of storage that I needed. So there was this cosmic mishap where my friend missed out on a free moving truck and manpower from Hawaii Self Storage. My friend ended up having to rent a UHaul. We get to HSS in Kapolei as the sun is going down. The office is closed (they close at 2pm on Sundays). AND HERE IS WHERE MURPHY'S LAW KICKS OUR BUTTS. We pile up half of her belongings onto two flatbed carts and head up to her storage unit. IT IS LOCKED. With one of the red, in-house locks that are for units that aren't under contract yet. We have her contract in hand, paid and signed. There is no one to ask for help because the office closed. There is no emergency contact number. Do we stay there all night and guard her stuff outside the unit until office hours the next morning (to avoid hauling the UHaul all over creation)? Can't--the building goes into lockdown mode at midnight. You can only access your stuff between 5 a.m. and midnight. And as we leave, the exit gate is broken and you have to manually get out of your car to push it open and closed. This turned out to be a perfect for the people scrounging for Kapolei Hale Lights parking. My friend spent the night studying the contract which does not say you need to come in during office hours. We wake up super early the next day to move her stuff in as soon as access is allowed and I sit and guard her stuff as she rushes to town to return the UHaul before 9am. EDIT: The staff eventually made it right, so I changed my 1 star rating to 3 and removed most of the details of the story. Sometimes spit happens. read more

Since being closer to the Westside, looked at others in the area, but I always came back to HSS and their location in Kapolei. Did not know what to expect? What an awesome experience I had at Hawai'i Self Storage on Kamokila. Customer service is Excellent!! Shani is the BEST!! She helped me to obtain the perfect sized storage unit for all my items. When we first got there she took us upstairs to see the different sized units and was super patient when working with us. She was super genuine, friendly, and helpful throughout the entire time I had my stuff stored there. Anytime I emailed her with a question or was ready to give her my 30 day advance notice she'd always get back to me right away. They have security cams, facility is clean, and I'd recommend this place to all my friends and family. They also have a moving company and those guys are awesome too. This review is in regards to Meen Kine Poke U-Haul service located within the Hawaii Self Storage building. It's a convenient location for those of us in the Ewa/Kapolei area right in between Kmart and Home Depot. They just have a handful of trucks to rent but we had no problem reserving a pickup on new years eve. Btw they only have one pickup available....at least that was the only one there when we rented. Prices are cheap. For 5 hours we got the pickup for just under $50. So less than $10/hr. The lady I dealt with was nice. She did her business, we did ours, bada-bing bada-boom, it was all good. Would use their services again for sure. read more

This was my first ever storage experience and it was flawless from beginning to end (Jan-Mar) as I frantically put two properties on the market and bought another. As I anxiously waited for the stresses of the real estate game: multiple buyers' multiple extensions, escrow, etc. this facility (next to Kmart Kapolei) was convenient, and gave me peace of mind that my stuff was safe. My10x9 unit easily fit the contents of my old 980 SF condo. I reserved online to lock in a special price, which is only good for a maximum lease of 6 months. The staff will show you different size units to determine your need, and give you tips like people often forget that you can pile UP, further maximizing your space. Though they do have a free truck pickup, I was told you have to unload it yourself, which wouldn't work for me because I'm a single parent household. My daughter has special needs and has difficulty transitioning. She thoroughly enjoyed "Shakaman Storage" as she calls it, and seeing the mascot all over the place. It has been a great learning and life skills experience for her, and when I checked out today, staff remembered her, and gave me a book about her hero "Shakaman" for her :) and said she could come visit 'him' (his pictures on the wall) anytime. The experience was perfect for my urgent, temporary need, I got a special price, and the fact that I never had to leave my zip code was the icing on the cake! read more

Very upset with services. First went in on Saturday to change move in date only to find they couldn't find the only person in the office that knew how to change dates on the system, stated that I would return on Sunday however I gave them an extra day to process my request and went in on Monday instead only to be told that it was already changed. No one thought that it would be a professional thing to do by informing the customer with a phone call so I wouldn't waste my time or gas . Left returned on Tuesday after hours to put things in storage and you guessed it PIN DOES NOT WORK! They provide equipment (rollers) to help you haul your items to your unit and they also sell boxes, tape, bubble wrap and locks etc. Only negative is the tiny parking area near the unit entrance, it's fairly difficult to maneuver with large vehicle and depending on your unit size, the prices can be costly.
