One of my best friends and I went on the 7AM trip, 8/28/26, with Caleb and Jax. It was my friend's first time visiting Oahu, and it was an amazing experience. Can't recommend this enough. One of our most favorite activities for the week; we couldn't stop talking about it! We had initially booked for a 6AM which was cancelled, so we switched to the 7AM, no problem. Highly recommend going as early as possible, as the currents only become stronger as the day goes on. I do not recommend this trip if you're prone to seasickness, as it's rough out there offshore and you're bobbing in the water on the boat and inside the cage. I made sure to apply my scopolamine patch the night before, so it could take effect for the trip. It was a small group of 6 total on our trip, which meant we could all maximize our time in the water, which we appreciated, since it's 6 in the cage at a time. I also appreciated how crew prompted us to rotate sides in the cage at times, so we could all experience the different vantage points. I would have otherwise been apprehensive about going into the water with sharks, but this was truly a unique and exciting experience. Where else are you going to be able to do this?! Caleb and Jax reviewed procedures with us and were very safety conscious. I had no concerns about being out there. Hold on tight to the cage! The current will push you into the cage or into your neighbor at times, but it was all good fun. My friend was the last one into the cage and was a little hesitant at first, wanted to make sure her snorkel gear fit properly, etc. Staff were very attentive to her, and we greatly appreciated that. Bring a camera and you can get some sick footage of the sharks (they also have GoPros to rent for $50). I'm still editing all my videos! We lost count of the Galapagos sharks we saw. Seemed like up to 6 at a time, and they'd be arriving from all directions. Beautiful, sleek, curious creatures. The shark "tip jar" on board was hilarious! Highly recommend Hawaii Shark Encounters to anyone visiting Oahu! We really appreciated the staff's care and focus on safety, while making it a once in a lifetime experience. read more

I started out saying I was just going to go on the boat for a ride, but my friend booked me the full experience. I'm so glad she did. It's a little intimidating at first - as you hook onto the cage and it's the open ocean...and there are waves..I crawled into the cage and was just going to hang out and not put my head under - because you know, waves and sharks and all the fears. I'm so glad I did - it was epic and something I will remember the rest of my life! Highly recommend it. If you get sea sick though, be sure to get Dramamine in before getting on the boat. read more

Great first experience out to see the Galapagos sharks and some other fun fish. The two captains were cool, they got us out to the cage safe and fast. You go in groups of 6 in the cage. The captains do run down the rules which help. However; it helps if you are with friends. So try and go with a group of 6!!! We had two that weren't in our friend group and they decided not to listen to the rules and the dude kicked me in the stomach so hard twice to the point I had to get out of the cage because I felt sick. Not the tours fault but it did ruin the rest of the experience for me. The sharks are amazing and I loved to see them! It helped me not be so afraid and now I am excited to learn to scuba!!! read more

I don't even know ow where to start. This was a bucket list item for me. I really wanted to swim in open water with these magnificent animals but my family would never go for it so I gave in and agreed to go with the cage. While, I'll still probably do open water alone at some point, this was a fantastic experience. Adam and Ephraim were an amazing crew from check in all the way through the trip. They were informative, educational, and fun. Lots of shark jokes were great for everyone on board but they were also very educational in explaining shark behavior, conservation, and the methods they use locally to track and support shark populations. Once in the water (I paid and extra $50 for the GoPro footage - didn't share here as about 15min in length), we had a blast. My wife and kids (11 &15) really enjoyed the time in water. The sharks came literally up to the cage and were within arms reach. I did get the GoPro outside the cage a few times to get as close as possible. I would absolutely take this trip again. Our 6 year old daughter wanted to shark dive when we visited Oahu so based on other reviews, we picked Hawaii Shark Encounters. Adam was one of the guides, and I forgot the other one's name but both were SUPER friendly and knew so much about the island, and even gave us awesome recommendations. They were very clear on directions and what we were going to see and do. There were about 6-7 sharks and a bunch of fish when we went diving. Although I got a bit seasick while in the water, and on the ride home, the guides were so attentive and offered us Tic Tacs that definitely helped with the nausea. I did take Dramamine, had on patches behind my ear, and a ginger candy in my mouth, but still got seasick. I highly recommend this tour though!!! read more

Real kind and friendly guys, they made the entire group we rode out with feel comfortable and even snapped a couple pics of us in the cage! We had a Groupon for this company so we went with them. There's a bunch of shark dive companies from the same port. Ours... he called us to make sure we find them. The 2 young guys running this boat were both awesome. I forgot their names lol but the Asian one explained a lot to us about sharks that we didn't know. He's pretty chill ... my older son was talking to him a lot. Very approachable, both of them. We did the 11am one which in hindsight... we probably should've done the 7am one... but the boys didn't want to wake up that early lol the WAVES were no joke. A few ppl got seasick so I would take Dramamine or take some ginger candy w/ you if you get seasick easily. We got wet on the way there due to waves. Once in the cage, we had a lot of things going on at once. Wanting to see the sharks, fighting the waves (had to cling hard to the bars), and breathing thru the snorkel lol it was fun for us but just keep that in mind. Early morning might be more calm. My older boy felt seasick in the cage, so he didn't do all 20 minutes. He got out around 15 and said he felt better on the boat... which we were told... it's usually the opposite. My younger boy said it was the highlight of the trip! He's a thrill seeking guy. We saw mainly Galapagos sharks I think. No tiger sharks. But it was still cool to see them so close. There's glass on the sides for safety. Bottom bars were open, FYI. My younger boy went down to check and his feet went through Overall, very memorable exciting trip! The overall experience was successful and was an estimated for 15 minutes in the cage!!! Diving in the cage to see some sharks was the only thing my teenager wanted to do and look forward to during our trip to Hawaii. Since she was a minor, I had to go on the boat but chose not to dive in which I had to pay as if I was diving too. We didn't come prepared so she wasn't able to take any photos in the water. You can bring your waterproof camera. I loved that they went through some facts about sharks. It's very sad that they always get bad stories about them on the news. Not happy with this company. Had guests visiting out of town. We had afternoon reservations and literally called them before heading to the North Shore to make sure to tour was still on. We got there and they said it was cancelled. I get it. Maybe weather drastically changed within 90 minutes time. Who knows. But at least compensate us somehow for our time. My visitors ended up rebooking a few days later, first tour of the day. I couldn't make it. Even a 30% discount would have been appreciated. They rented a car JUST to do this activity and had to rent another car for the rebooked day. read more

We had a fabulous time with them the other day! The Captain was very soft spoken and quite the comedian! The water was pretty rough even though we went out early I highly recommend Dramamine! The email they send says they suggest it for those that suffer from motion sickness, which I normally don't! But being on the rough waves, the cage felt like a washing machine! Worth it! The boat captains were knowledgable and to the point, and so familiar with the usual sharks to the point of giving a few nicknames. I went to an early booking (8:30am) and saw a bunch! Morning seems to be the golden hour to go. You will boat out of the harbor to a cage that is just kinda out there, but the sharks seem to come like clockwork (ish. its nature so things happen). I will say is you should be able to tread water pretty strongly if you need to shift around the cage. Also one thing that seems to set them apart from other tours is that they allow you to use your own go-pro or phone in a waterproof case (at your own risk) in addition to renting. Also, take a dramamine an hour ahead of time. Don't even risk it! read more

Experience - Awesome Crew and Staff - EXTRA Awesome! The Ride and the Ocean and Sharks - Awesome Bad - MYSELF (Got Seasick!!!!) - Also, somehow my phone stopped recording when I saw the baddest Tiger Shark!!!! Luckily I was able to get out there though and go into the cage and I was able to see a huge Tiger Shark...unfortunately a Tiger Shark is a predator and the other sharks that were initially there during the first group dive all took off...but it was overall a great experience. Since the entire group for the experience got there early we were able to leave early and head out to the cage. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable...Definitely something you would want to try one day in Hawaii.... I would hopefully do this again but next time take a better dosage of Dramamine (I had the low dosage) version since I was worried I might get drowsy...
