I went here last night and ordered the large plate, which came with 2 meats, 2 sides, and a drink. I chose the Molokai chicken and the teriyaki chicken with macaroni salad and steamed veggies instead of rice. The macaroni salad was okay -- not as sweet as I expected, but it was creamy. The steamed veggies were supposed to be seasoned, but only a few pieces actually had seasoning on them, and mostly tasted like pepper. The chicken, however, was tender and very good. For my drink, I got the pineapple lemonade. It was a little too sweet for my taste at first, but it was really good once I watered it down a bit. The customer service was good, and the building was clean, spacious, and had a very warm atmosphere. Definitely check them out if you're in Lawrence! read more

Grabbed the classic plate via delivery and it did not disappoint. Very tasty and the delivery was equally fast. I went with the pork, so good, and the huli huli chicken, which was not as sweet as I was worried about. I also added the veggies and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a nice mix of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, and green beans. I like their food. My go-to is the Spam Musubi. I also love their wraps. My only real complaint is the mac salad. It's okay but if they are trying to stick to the traditional Hawaiian mac salad, their recipe is way off. It requires more sugar and shaved carrots. Other than that, love the chicken they serve. Stopped by the drive thru last night and got the Kilauea plate. It was delicious and a little spicy. The service was super speedy in spite of the really long line. Oh boy. So I'm not going to address the authenticity of the food. One trip to Hawaii years ago doesn't qualify me to speak on such things. So let's just assume it's authentic and go from there. I have been eating for many years, my entire life to be honest, so I feel pretty confident to talk about the quality of food. You walk into Hawaiian Bros and meh it's a pretty standard little restaurant. They don't go overboard in touristy Hawaiian decorations which is a plus in my book. You have a short and simple menu with a choice of three sizes, small, classic, and large. I got a large, this is enough for at least two meals, maybe three. For 15 bucks that's a great, and delicious, deal. Staff is friendly and quick. They answer any questions you may have and they bring you your food very quickly. The food. You get a to go box, your protein, side of rice, side of macaroni salad. Rice is standard white rice, I do know enough about Hawaiian cooking to know that some furikake would be awesome on the table for the rice. If you aren't familiar with furikake look it up, but it is great on white rice. The macaroni salad... I'm not sure what to say about this. My opinion on the macaroni salad changed with each bite and ranged from loved it to hated it and back. I think, I'm not positive, I think they used celery salt in it and I think maybe that's what was hitting sour notes for me. I'll have to try it again to make up my mind. The protein. Here you have chicken or pork. I had Kilauea chicken. OMG, flavor eruption in my mouth! Perfect amount of heat and such a great flavor that even when I felt ready to burst I still wanted to watch more. I went with my mom and she ordered the Molokai chicken, a great option if you don't like spicy. Also delicious and I'd like more. So, after filling up on chicken, macaroni salad, and some rice you may think the meal is done... you're wrong. Not just a little wrong but all the way wrong. So wrong people will flinch away from you and say "wow, that is so wrong". Yeah, you are that wrong. You need dessert. Dole soft serve is coming up to make your meal complete and your day bright. You can get a mix of pineapple and raspberry and your tongue will climb out of your mouth to look you in the eyes and thank you for the glorious meal and the flavor extravaganza you have just treated it to. We love everything we've tried here! Fresh, delicious, flavorful food! We often get the Huli huli chicken and sub the macaroni salad for the sautéed veggies (thank you HB for bringing these back! Way better lately!) We also really love their salad- great dressing! So fresh! And their lua pig is so good with the pineapple BBQ sauce! This is our go to drive through when we want to eat healthy but are in a hurry. Eating in the building is also a great experience. Great decor, clean, nice set up. Also great fresh pineapple as a side! And if you want dessert the dole whip is super refreshing! If you haven't tried this place yet please go! You won't regret it! read more

In Hawaii there's a place called L & L Hawaiian Which tastes more like a Korean & Japanese type restaurant. Which is sad when your on the islands looking For authentic local food. A Hawaiian restaurant in the Midwest does seem a bit odd, don't you think? I was not the least bit interested in dining here until I started hearing positive word-of-mouth whispers about Hawaiian Bros. A co-worker and I wanted to pick a spot that neither of us had tried before so Hawaiian Bros won the coin toss. For starters, this is not a fancy restaurant. The decor is pleasant but minimal. It is nicely decorated and the dining area is spacious. The menu is also minimal. There is nothing deep fried and the selections are very basic. They have several key chicken and pork dishes which are served either as main course or as a sandwich. They have sides of rice, macaroni salad and grilled veggies. Again, nothing is fried which is very unique for fast food. There is a choice of sizes available which is nice. Sometimes a small portion is plenty. I ordered the Huli Huli chicken with rice and grilled vegetables. I wasn't sure if I would like the macaroni salad so I asked for a sample. The server was more than happy to give me a sample portion and it was delicious. If you are counting carbs, they offer a low carb option which was subbing the rice and macaroni for the grilled vegetables. It's nice to have that option. Even for the small, the portion sizes were ample and the prices good. Everything was tasty and fresh. I was very pleased with my order and plan to go back soon. There is plenty of parking and easy access. The staff was friendly and the food good. Maybe a Hawaiian restaurant in the Midwest is a good idea. Aloha! read more

All about this place! As life gets busier, I am more into quick concepts. Having a local one like Hawaiian Bros pops out for me vs a burrito-focused one that I frequent too often. We had the family in tow, wanted something reasonably healthy and quick which is a tough task in America at times. Hawaiian Bros brought the goods. They have a drive-thru that was pretty quick, an easy to scan menu, and most importantly, tasty food. For the food, it's almost reminiscent of Chinese food but to me the quality here was way up from a traditional Chinese-American spot. I tried the Molokai Chicken (made it spicy), medium-sized, with a side of macaroni salad and vegetables. YUM. The chicken had some nice kick, a light, teriyaki style flavor over a bed of rice. The macaroni salad was just okay to me, but the veggies were delicious. You can also go low carb by just getting a main protein and veggies which is nice. Wife got the Honolulu Chicken which was similar but not spicy, and more focused on garlic and green onions. We dug this little spot and know there's one in OP, KS, as well as Belton, MO, so we hope they keep expanding to eventually be in our backyard as well. read more

The menu is not large, but what they do they do well! It's Hawaiian comfort food fast.. I was looking for a quiet dinner after spending all day out in the summer Kansas sun. I sat under an air conditioning vent and devoured my tender, sweet huli huli chicken and pineapple. Everything is served in to go containers with plastic silverware. If I had gotten a large I would have needed it! I can imagine if I lived here I would be a regular. It really hits the spot. The small was plenty filling because I went back to the counter for a dole whip...because who can really resist a dole whip? I was always a big fan of Hawaiian Bros until yesterday. This time my friend (Minh N.) ordered for me at work and I brought it home instead. It was a classic Molokai, my favorite dish there. I had the dish around 4:15 and only ate half of it. I had diarrhea at 9:30 the same day while watching the game. I had nothing else that day except for the dish, so I am sure that the reason i have diarrhea is Hawaiian Bros. It was a really terrible experience and my stomach still hurts. I ate at home the day before that and felt completely fine. I am disappointed since I am a loyal customer. Probably will not eat here anymore.
