The tiniest scoops of the world saltiest mac salad is served here. I regret buying an extra serving of that mac salad because it was too salty to eat. I could feel my arteries hardening by the second bite. Dean and Sam Winchester would approve of this place because no ghosts would be around in a three-block radius. The kalua pork was okay but that Honolulu chicken is a hard pass. As for the $1.99 white chocolate macadamia nut cookie? It was okay. I wish it was warmed but it is what it is. I'm never in the ASU area so even though I had just picked up lunch, this place called to me. I was sold by the typeface and exterior but I really should have trusted the Yelp reviews. Never in my life have I been so disappointed by Hawaiian BBQ. I shared a plate with Honolulu Chicken and Kalua Pork. We bought an extra scoop of macaroni salad on the side along with a macadamia nut chicken. I was so surprised by how small the portions were. Even with rice underneath the entrees, it was still pretty meagar. The meats themselves were ovely salty. The macaroni salad was also insanely salty. I appreciated the black pepper in it but where were the vegetables? As for the cookie, it was a standard cookie. Nothing you have to get but still a decent sweet treat. Order at the one out of two self-service, wait for them tho call your name, and pick up your food at the pick-up window. There was one guy by the front that will assist you if you need help. For starters, I was pretty satisfied with my portion sizes contrary to some other reviews on here. The Pineapple BBQ sauce and siracha was good but I hate to admit everything else was pretty mid. The Mac salad had too much mayo, the noodles were over cooked and the absence of any crunchy vegetables like carrots or celery were missed heavily! This just tastes like a mouthful of warm mayo, not pleasant at all. The meat was just okay. I couldn't tell it was grilled. It had no grill flavor, you could've told me it was baked and I would've believed you. Also, a tad too sweet for my liking. I hate to say it but there are far better options for Hawaiian BBQ in the area, hell I'd rather get teriyaki chicken at Panda Express down the street. I told them I've never been there and asked them if the big plate comes with 2 meats, they said the mixed one does. I said okay can I get a mixer big plate and I for sure want grilled chicken but what other meat is there. Again it's not clear. She very very rudely said "just come inside we are backed up". Then I was quite unsure about the pickup situation. I ordered the Large - Kilauea Chicken with a side of veggies. The Kilauea chicken wasn't much flavorful in my opinion. I liked their version Mac and cheese. My side of veggies I expected to be in a separate container, it was just thrown into the container. For it being a large, this meal wasn't a large serving. The large chicken plates are not cheap (even with your special offers) so when I receive less chicken because the compartment where the chicken is supposed to be was half filled with rice I was quite disappointed. The meal already comes with rice, so there no need to put a layer of "filler" so that I get less chicken. My partner and I always order the same order every time, but we noticed a location change! The new location is nice, and a little further into Tempe than the last location. It looked like there's an area to sit inside now, which is new feature that the last location did not have. The new location also has dole whip options, which we will be sure to try next time!
