My family and I tried Pacific Rim in Mesa for the first time, and we were beyond impressed! From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and took the time to explain the menu since it was our first visit. Casual vibe in this Mesa neighborhood offering Hawaiian cuisine. The cashier was helpful in explaining the menu. I tried a combo platter for 20$ offering three types of meat. Teriyaki beef, Kalbi ribs and char sui chicken. The char sui chicken stood out most. With its unique Chinese flavors. It instantly took me back to my favorite childhood Chinese restaurant. The beef and rib quality, I was not a fan of. Now the Mac salad needed a little more creaminess to it, it was kind dry. The steamed riced well it was steamed rice.The proteins lay on a bed of shredded cabbage slaw as garnish. I personally would like to see just cabbage, thicker cut and steamed. Wow, the food is delicious here! This place has been popping up in my social media feeds and I love Hawaiian style food and gave this place a try today. At 11:20am, already a bunch of people eating here and one group already walked out. I ordered the Hawaiian plate and also got a poi butter mochi. I've never had poi before but can report back that the poi butter mochi is very yummy! I did a little research and poi is a traditional Hawaiian food made from a starchy root, similar to taro, called kalo. I love taro, ube and many starchy root vegetables, so this was up my alley. I could tell from the packaging that the poi was probably a starchy root vegetable. Not too sweet at all and quite tasty! It's not like Taiwanese mochi which is my reference point and there's no filling but the sticky and sweetness suits me. I love it! And I bought the last one for today. I can see myself coming to buy this very often! I will also say that the Hawaiian platter was very well made. The mac salad is how it is supposed to be made. I've also never had lau lau, but in my culture, we have something similar (think: Chinese tamales, known as zhongzi) and it was so good, and flavorful. I also went home and did some research and lau lau is made with meat and vegetables stuffed inside taro leaves and then wrapped in ti leaves. The ti leaves are discarded after the lau lau is cooked. The taro leaves is what gives the meat and vegetables a distinct flavor. It reminded me of home, felt like comfort food for me! The lomi salmon (sort of like poke and initially I thought it was pico de gallo lol - but its salted raw salmon with diced raw tomatoes and onions) portion was small, but so good, very well seasoned. The haupia is a coconut pudding dessert, reminds me of a coconut dessert I can make. Not too sweet at all and perfect for a hot day, so refreshing! My only gripe is that the rice was on the tad dry side. Everything was so good here and I already want to come back! I'll be back to have their poke bowls and try their daily specials, the guava cake and Chantilly cake! They also have ube mochi and butter mochi too, so I will be back to try those too! The island vibes here are so legit, come give it a try! Hawaiian reggae was playing and they also bring in live music performers too. This has to be my favorite hawaiian restaurant in the valley!! My familly and I were in the area and starving!! I remembered saving this spot on my tiktok so we decided to try it out. We walked in and it was pretty full! We totally got a warm welcome and got amazing recs. Ahi tuna tasted really fresh and clean with no iron-y aftertaste. I liked the barbecue beef and kalbi, heads up they are on the sweeter side. I would probably skip the char siu next time, but it was solid. The macaroni salad is the kind without vinegar, but it was pretty good. I would come back, probably want to try the loco moco next time or the katsu. Warning, they do automatically add a $3 water bottle to the bill which I thought was strange, so make sure to watch out for that. Located in a non descript strip center, you have to be looking for this place to find it. Well worth it, the food is delicious! Ordering at the counter, first time here, Wife had a few questions about what to order. The Hawaiian lady was very nice, patient and helpful. Wife got the char siu chicken, which came with rice and macaroni salad. Nice portion of moist, fresh tasting chicken seasoned with Chinese 5 spice and nicely charred. I tried a bite, excellent! I tried the Hawaiian combo, and loved every bite. I could tell this food was prepared by someone who has great pride in their product. I was in town to run a marathon. I stopped in here to get dinner. It was easy to find on Southern Ave, across the street from Mesa Community College. Service was very nice and friendly. I went to Oahu with my husband about 4 years ago and fell in love with the food, especially the homestyle Hawaiian comfort food. Coming to Pacific Rim & Sushi was like falling in love with the food all over again. I had missed this flavor so much! The Laulau was juicy, smoky, with just a hint of bitterness from the taro leaves and no one does it better than they do here in AZ. You know it's good when they order the taro leaves direct from Hawaii in order to get the best ones and they hand make their 7 spice powder for the char siu chicken. In fact, everything is house-made from scratch. You can taste the love and care in every bite. The Kalua pork was tender and dripping with flavor. I could probably eat my body weight in that stuff! And the char siu chicken is fantastic with that special seasoning. I'll happily drive from Buckeye to Mesa for that any day! The owners and manager are super friendly and informative and I could have chatted with them all day. It really did feel like sitting down with good friends and relaxing with great food and conversation. What a great place. I go with friends who want sushi because I don't eat sushi but I can always find something on their menu. The Hawaiian choices are far better than the fast food places and their burgers are good as well when I'm in the mood for an "American" dish with a different spin like the teri-burger with cheese that has pineapple and teriyaki sauce. If you're looking for some plate lunch or Hawaiian food, this place is decent. I came with really low expectations and was surprised by some menu items. Some dishes are like eating in Hawaii, but others are not. For example, the spicy garlic chicken is not what you think it is. It's just grilled chicken with chili paste on top. Not like your battered and fried spicy garlic chicken. Also the poke is disappointing. Poke should just come with fish and rice yet here they add all this nonsense in. It's a small inside, but not super busy so you'll find a place to it most likely. I recommend trying their weekly special. You can find the weekly special on their instagram. I had their mochiko chicken. If they have this on the menu, order it, you can like my review later. It's fried chicken that's marinated and battered in rice flour. So it like mochi surrounding the chicken. Their Mac salad is fire. You always judge a plate lunch place by their Mac salad and it passed. I also had their Katsu moco which was a special and was also super good. The katsu was a little sweet which was a nice add. Anywho again they have some stuff they don't tailor to the mainland tongue, but most of the plates they do. Try it out and judge for yourself. read more

I heard of this place as Pacific Rim and Bento on Facebook and was bummed it came about after I moved. But I made plans to get a ride on a layover. The ride fell through so delivery to the rescue. So, unfortunately, I can't really comment on the service and atmosphere. But the food! Oh, the food. Raised in Hawaii I'm picky about my Hawaiian food. I bought three entrees, leftovers will be coming home with me. I couldn't decide and had to try my top three choices. The Hawaiian Plate with kalua pig, lau lau, lomi salmon, and haupia didn't let me down. Best lau lau I've ever had. The amount of luau leaf was amazing. I'm not much for lomi salmon but this one with it's big, fresh chunks of salmon. So good. The haupia wasn't sweet. But it wasn't bad. I kinda liked it. The meat in the Pacific Rim combo was so juicy and full of taste. Loved the chicken. My least favorite was the beef curry stew. No curry taste. I was expecting a Japanese curry taste. Just spicy. I don't like spicy. The meat was tough and dry. Could have used some carrot chunks. The Mac salad was close to what I'm used to. Not the same, but still good. The kitchen is open so you can see them cooking. Good variety of Hawaiian eats on the menu. I liked how they had a few seats next to the big window for those like me waiting for their to go orders. I was greeted warmly by the staff at the cashier and she answered any questions I had. Easy to order to go and my food came out at a timely manner... * Coconut garlic shrimp- in my head I was thinking it would be like the shrimp from the food trucks I've had in Hawaii. More like a lightly fried shrimp tossed in fried garlic, but this was saucy in garlic and red/green peppers. Flavor was good though. FYI, the shells are still on... * Hawaiian plate - the best laulau I ever had in Az! The lomi salmon (tiny lil container of it, I thought it was just chopped up tomatoes at first lols, kalua pork and haupia were ono also. The mac salad is ok taste wise compared to others I've had but it's not bad... *yellowtail igiri - fresh and the fish just melts in yo mouth So I ended up ordering the poke bowl also 10 min later while I was waiting. Buggah was Ono brah!! This is the spot for local Hawaiian food. Super tough to find fresh poke with fish flown in fresh from Hawaii, Grilled char siu, and high quality Kalbi (minimal fat). I think they have butter mochi too which I need to try because that's my favorite. They also had li hing mui sour strawberry belts which always hit the spot. Isn't that what you were thinking? ;) Pacific Rim & Sushi started off as a food truck and has since moved into this great brick and mortar. The chef grew up on the island of Kauai, so hey, that has to count for something, right? On the first visit, we ordered the $16 Loco Moco and $15 Chicken Katsu. The loco moco was salty, but the chicken katsu was really juicy. Both had portion sizes that were more than generous. The mac salad isn't my favorite, and if you know me, I'm one to usually get no rice and all mac salad, but here, I say keep the rice! Fabulous food from a true Hawaiian team! My boyfriend (who is from Ewa Beach himself) and I visited with a group after seeing this spot serves classic plate lunches with items other restaurants don't serve. We were so thrilled to get a Hawaiian combo packed with savory and aromatic lau lau, juicy kalua pork, and super fresh lomi salmon. It also comes with great mac salad, rice, and a cup of haupia (the perfect coconut dessert). All delicious! I don't think I've had poke this good in a while. They really hooked it up with spicy shoyu tuna, even though shoyu ~technically~ isn't on the menu, and I loved the addition of seaweed! I could've eaten a big tub of that. The staff is phenomenal (owner from West Oahu, according to my friend who visited the next day). They helped us put tables away after we gathered a couple together for our group, and they made sure we were all taken care of. So happy to have a good Hawaiian spot like this close by!
