Stopped in early morning on a Friday. Fresh, squeaky cheese curds for the picking were on display and I, of course, pick up a bag and started to devour them when I got back into the car. But before the cheese curd endeavor, I had ordered a scoop of ice cream which was darn near the best I've had in a very long time - so good it rivals my ultimate favorite frozen custard. I forgot the exact flavor name of ice cream, but it was a peanut butter chunk chocolate.... Also, this "scoop" of ice cream I requested was not merely a scoop, it was more like a bowl! Also picked up a variety of meat, summer sausage and meat sticks. Never can go wrong here. Highly recommended if you're within an hours drive! Funny thing to add is my work colleague was with me - he did not grow up in Wisconsin and never had fresh cheese curds. I had been talking about squeaky cheese curds before we had been here and he gave me the crazy WTF look when I was trying to describe them. Well, he popped a few into his flapper, and he started to tell me "hey, these squeak when I chew them!". He's then telling me, hey.. squeaky cheese curds... they actually squeak! Wisconsin. Dairy Products. Unbeatable combo. What could be better than an ice cream cone on a hot summer day? Not much. Hawkeyes' has a flavor of the day, every day, 7 days a week. I usually order the kids scoop of ice cream and occasionally the single scoop but have yet to see any appreciable difference in the serving size. Both are HUGE. The price for a large single scoop of cool awesomeness -- an affordable two to three bucks. The orange sherbet has small pieces of orange candy; the chocolate pecan has pecan pieces big enough to see. The cones are handmade and available in a variety of flavors. On the main street of a small town, next door to an even smaller town, Hawkeye does a great business summer or winter but especially during the summer. People coming back from a day boating/fishing or a day hunting always seem to find time to stop. 15 cars in the parking lot will pretty much fill it up, but there's always room on the street or alley. Of course, Hawkeye's is also a store, so they offer more than ice cream such as a great selection of local cheese (after all, Colby, the home of colby cheese is the small town next door) and sausage. Last time I was there I also noticed for the first time, the Watkins brand of flavorings behind the counter. Hawkeye is the best place for ice cream in this part of Wisconsin. Period. read more

Great little dairy store. We are on a road trip back to California and wanted to pick up some Wisconsin cheese and cheese curds. Laurie was very helpful to us tourists. Although they did not have any fresh curds in yet (we arrived just after they opened) she did have some frozen. We are in a motorhome so they were perfect for us to take home. We picked up a variety of cheeses, summer sausages and beef sticks. We also purchadef some fresh and frozen smoked string cheese. Definitely worth the stop for the variety and hospitality! read more

"After 30+ years and thousands of dollars, I am so shocked that this business does not care one bit about their customers' health. ZERO. I will no longer be shopping here. Owner refuses to even ASK people to wear masks and has zero other protective procedures in place. When I talked to the owner, it became clear that her political views/opinions are her main concern - not protecting customers. This is a very small space with limited ventilation and open food containers - a very high risk environment for getting Covid in Clark county which ranks in the "highest" category of infection per capita. read more

Great stop and easy to get to. Cheese curds, hard ice cream, sausages, and candy snacks. Bring CASH! There is a minimum purchase of $10 for credit cards. The scoop sizes are SO BIG for ice cream you won't hit the $10 minimum for two cones. It cost us $5.05 for one cone and one cup. I sampled the black licorice ice cream , very good, and ended up with chocolate peanut butter. My s.o. got ripe rasp choc chunk. and he was impressed with the scoop size in his dish. This place IS ice cream! Nevermind the great cheeses, the ice cream is where it's at. They carry tons of Kemp's flavors, including Chocolate Peanut Butter Revel! Ah, Hawkeye Dairy. Many a fond childhood memory for me here. Abbotsford lies on State Highway 13 midway between my hometown and Marshfield. Our dentist was in Marshfield. My mom is the bomb because she'd always stop here and let us get ice cream on the way home from the dentist! Thanks mom! They have great ice cream, blue moon, bubble gum, all the kid favorites and all the regular ones too (cookie dough, chocolate almond fudge, etc). Also, they have a great selection of sausages and cheese. They have the mozzarella whip type cheese that my sister and I used to call 'snot cheese'. So good! If you're passing through in the summer months, grab an ice cream and sit out in the parking lot by the gigantic fiberglass ice cream cone. And make sure you get some curds for the road. read more

I'm giving four stars for their ICE CREAM CONES. A great place to stop if you are hauling ass across Wisconsin on a hot summer's day. The place is very popular - their parking lot often has about 10 cars there: for Abbotsford that's a lot. I've only tried a bit of their cheese - very good. It sure looks like they have a good variety of cheeses and related food. What would you expect being close to the birthplace of Colby cheese. Their building is a bit small and crowded and so are their bathrooms. But the place is clean, the staff friendly and the prices reasonable. Check it out ice cream lovers! read more

Squeaky cheese curds and ultra creamy ice cream. True treasure in the dairy state! Good assortment of crackers and sausage also available there. All the dairy is local so it was very fresh. There are probably a dozen flavors of ice cream. And the prices are very reasonable. read more

Hawkeye is best for getting ice cream on a hot summer day. I agree with other reviewers in saying the prices are very affordable for the portions you receive. I have never had any issue with the assortment of cheeses offered for sale, however it should be noted that none of it is made on site. Hawkeye buys most, if not all of their cheese from a little cheese maker a mile or two to the west of town called Nasonville (formerly Suttner's Cheese). If you are the purist, I would suggest going there for the absolute freshest possible Wisconsin cheese around. All in all, for many years I have been a satisfied customer of Hawkeye, Even though, the place has changed hands multiple times over the years, the quality and atmosphere have not changed. read more

For years this has been our pit stop on nights we are driving home from visiting relatives and need something cold and refreshing. They have amazing ice cream and decent service. It's really a 4.5, I've been coming here since I was a kid. My siblings and I would always keep a sharp eye out for the big ice cream cone when we'd come home from up North. Every time I come home from San Diego, I always make it a point to stop in and get some goodness. DO NOT ORDER PRODUCTS ONLINE FROM THEM. I used to go here all the time with my family growing up and loved it. I moved to the east coast years ago and wanted to introduce my friends here to good Wisconsin cheese. I placed a $45 order online (including $15 in shipping fees) and never received the order. When I went to track it I found they had to delivered it to somewhere in New Jersey (I live in New York.) When I emailed them about this and requested that they please deliver it to the correct address they told me I had listed the shipping address as New Jersey. When I said this was not the case they ignored my emails. $45 I'll never see again. Extremely disappointing. read more

This has always been a favorite place to stop. If you are lucky and have to owner scoop your ice cream it is a generously sized treat. The local teenagers serve just a fractional amount compared to the owners. A recent trip I decided to mix it up and try the turtle sundae. It came with two scoops of ice cream, a fractional drizzle of caramel and fudge and not one pecan. I asked where the pecans, we only have chopped nuts. Ok, I'll take them. I got exactly a 1 tsp of nuts. No balance, should have gotten the standard single dip. Cheese selection is good, curds always squeak! read more
