I rarely leave negative reviews, and I've honestly never sent a meal back before, but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel it's worth sharing. We came here to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday, and I ordered the seafood-stuffed prime rib. It was, without question, one of the worst restaurant meals I've ever been served. The prime rib was mostly fat, it was cold, the seafood stuffing had virtually no flavor, and the entire dish was inedible. I took a few bites, but simply couldn't eat it, so I politely sent it back. Our waitress, Haylee, was wonderful. She was kind, professional, and genuinely apologetic. None of this reflects on her service. She handled an awkward situation with grace, and I hope management recognizes what a great employee they have. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after that. The manager, Jackie, came to the table and seemed more confused that I didn't like the meal than concerned that it had been served in that condition. Since I wasn't looking for a free dinner, I told them I was perfectly willing to pay for the salad bar, which we had been told at the beginning of the meal was $17.99 if you didn't order an entrée. When the bill arrived, I had been charged $22.99. When I asked Haylee why, she explained that the manager had charged me for the salad bar and then added extra to help cover the cost of the entrée I had sent back. That is completely unacceptable. I asked to speak with the manager, but she never returned. Instead, Haylee came back and said there had been a "miscommunication" and that the salad bar had actually gone up to $22.99. Given what we had been told earlier, that explanation was simply not believable. I had no problem paying for the salad bar. I did have a problem being charged extra for a meal that was inedible and then feeling like I was being given an excuse instead of an honest explanation. A restaurant can recover from a bad meal with good customer service. What it can't recover from is making a customer feel like they're being misled. Haylee earned five stars. So, my husband goes every Wednesday night, they have a prime rib special for $21, includes side and salad bar. We arrived at 4:45 pm, sat down , and we had to wait for our drinks to order our meal. Party of 6. We told her we were there for the earlybird special upon arrival. By the time she brought our drinks and took our order It was 4:59 PM. She refused to give us the early bird special. She says it ends at 5 o'clock, however, we were there and I did bring that up. She said sorry they won't let her do anything about it. We were bringing company there, so as not to embarrass ourselves instead of it being $126 for food , not including tip for 6, plus we all had drinks, it was $400. We have been visiting The Lumberyard for a few years now, and consider this our special to go place. We decided to make reservations last night for Valentine's Day and to be honest, we are very disappointed. Our table was wobbly and shook with every movement that we made which was very annoying. We both ordered prime rib dinners. I ordered the 12 oz and my husband the seafood prime rib. My prime rib arrived and it was barely 8 oz size. The cut was so thin, I could not believe they would serve this for the money we pay. My husband received his meal and it was covered in so much sauce, the prime rib was lost. Very small portions! And to top it off, I went through 3 different steak knives trying to find one sharp enough to cut to even cut my prime rib. Unfortunately, we will not be returning for some time. read more

This place is a hidden gem. Our waiter is Morgan was very attentive and was super nice. Our meals were fantastic. The atmosphere is very cool and you feel like your sitting in the old lumber mill. I had the Seafood Prime Rib which is a 10 Oz prime rib smothered in shrimp, scallops and crab meat along with sautéed peppers and onions served with a twice baked potato. You also get soup and salad with your dinner. I promise you won't go home hungry. It was delicious. This is one of their more expensive meals, $32, but well worth every penny. While your down there be sure to stop in the Silver Lake Brewery for a beer. They are just around the corner. read more

Apparently train ran thru it at one once. The beans are all reclaimed wood. It's got a good vibe. The bar is ample & looks like people come to stay & chat. Very disappointed server was attentive food was of poor quality! Party of 7 with 6 different entrees , haddock overcooked, shrimp overcooked on both the stuffed haddock and the shrimp cocktail. Burger special looked delicious but again overcooked, sirloin steak special again overcooked! Seafood platter had a watery quality. I could continue.... Not sure what has changed maybe it was an off night for the chef. The restaurant wasn't very busy either.This is the third chance for the Lumberyard we won't be returning. The food was very bland and when my family took a bite of the food from the buffet and it was so cold and bland to the point that they didn't even eat. I found Hawley Lumber Yard Restaurant to be a really excellent restaurant. I must say it is surprising to find a good place like this in the City of Perry, New York. From the looks of the crowd I'm sure it attracts customers from all over the area. As I had heard that they had a really great prime rib, I ordered their Prime Rib Oscar, $30.99, and indeed it was totally excellent. It was rare as ordered and exceptionally tasty as the cheese sauce was of a smoked Gouda that not only paired well but actually enhanced. read more

This place is amazing. I had the scallops, which were incredible and perfectly cooked. Their salad bar is fine, but their soups are awesome. Their bread is so light and tasty. They were kind enough to let us use their conference room for our parents 40th wedding anniversary and they bent over backwards to make it nice for us. We are so impressed. Our order: ice waters w/ lemon, unsweetened iced tea, zinfandel, Lumberyard Chips, bread, 2 crocks of French onion soup, 2 salads w/ crumbly bleu cheese & Italian dressing, the prime rib and scallops, the seafood platter, brownie cheesecake, and peanut butter cake. *The soup-salad-bread bar is gone, a casualty of covid but may make a return closer to the holidays. The building has been landscaped since our last visit, and it looks nice. The entrance has a few benches in case you have to wait and a few shelves but decorating is an afterthought, the pillow looks like someone left it behind. The dining room is spacious with a high ceiling and the possibilities are endless for lighting, seating and decorations, maybe some day. A big plus, tables are in general not on top of each other. While dimly lighted, what could be a romantic restaurant is not. We had a reservation, but as we are walked to the table she carries paper placemats and silverware wrapped in a paper napkin with a paper strap around it. No tablecloths, no candle, diner style pepper and salt shakers, sorry but steaks need ground pepper even if it's performed by the server. On to the food... beverages were prompt. Barware has a custom logo, but the iced tea was served in a plastic Pepsi logo glass, not at these prices! Soup arrived, small crock and noticeably less in one bowl than the other, my companion wasn't happy. It was hot, salty and the cheese had sizzled to the cup. He likes to eat the cheese, anything on the cup was staying there. The signature chips were thick-cut, with both a salty cheese sauce and shredded cheese, tomatoes and chives, served with sour cream on the side. For $15 dollars, it was missing something, bacon or maybe some of the prime rib shredded? And the richness and saltiness needs an acid to balance it, create a house sauce or a salsa instead of putting tomatoes on top? Salads were obviously a bag, served with 2 slices of cucumber and 2 cherry tomatoes, one orange and one red. No croutons, even though they serve bread at the table. The bread was served cold, unremarkable, in a paper french fry tray with a mixture of frozen and room temperature butter in foils. Some were misshapen, obviously unused earlier. The sour cream, dressing and crumbly bleu all arrive in lidded one ounce plastic take-out containers, again, not at these prices! Dinner arrives, plating is not a priority. His seafood platter had no color from the broiler and my concern was under cooked seafood. He assured me that it wasn't, his first reaction was that it didn't look like much but said it was enough. (I may have been right, there was a lot of footwork between the living room and bathroom later that night ) The clams casino looked prepared beforehand, the stuffing was completely smooth across the top like it had been wrapped up in plastic wrap, as were the twice baked potatoes which were dry and pasty. With mashed potatoes on the menu, a piping bag and a few seconds could fix this and fool most people! My scallops were served in a small er dish on the dry plate with my prime rib and a just. (maybe 1.5 ounces) silver pitcher of au jus. There were 5 scallops that were supposed to be garlic and parmesan crusted, but there was no crust it was gooey, like soggy bread crumbs sitting in butter. The prime rib was the star of the entire meal! It was slightly under medium-rare, which is what I ordered, but I was OK with that. The au jus should have been hotter, but it had a nice flavor and I believe it was actual juice and not bouillon. A nice portion, well flavored, not overly spiced or salted and exceptionally tender! Absolutely the star of the entire meal. The server was nice, not intrusively present, but accommodating. A pitcher of water would have been great, as the glasses are small and the ice meant there's not much in them. It seemed there were 2 servers for the entire dining room, and although it was earlier in the dinner service, they had 3-4 large parties of 8-14 people and 3-5 tables of 2-4 people, so they were buzzing around the dining room! We had an evening event so we ordered our dessert to go, they had between 7 and 10 selections on a covered tray brought tableside, once home we opened them, the tables had turned! While his peanut butter chocolate cake filled his container, my slice of brownie cheesecake looked underwhelming. The flowerette of fake canned spray-cream was another downer, not at those prices! Whipped cream not foam please! Just say no to the store bought desserts UNLESS it's a prop in your marriage proposal! Then I'd ask, why here? Would we go again? French onion and prime rib! And we'll wait for the soup, salad and bread bar's return! Our last visit, pre-covid, was much better! I hope those days return! read more

I was visiting letchworth state park and wanted to venture out for local food. I happened upon this lovely restaurant. I was greeted and asked for my name and was quickly seated. The staff were all wearing masks and patrons were placed in a socially distanced setting. The food was delicious and the service fantastic. Was there last August & I don't have a bad word to say about the Lumber Yard, food, service were all Great. The owner checked on our table multiple times & even brought a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. Stopped on Thursday 7/6/23 & found that the place looks the same, but that's where the similarities ended. After ordering our entrees we were directed to the salad bar. I sampled the ham soup and found it salty ( but ate it ) not to be discouraged, went back for the seafood chowder, found this also salty. Ordered the seafood pasta, your right salty & over garlicky. I usually don't write reviews but this was such a dramatic change in food quality, I had to be heard. Little did I know till leaving, the Lumber Yard is under new ownership ! Wow! Take the ride, it'll be worth it and even if it's two hours away. The best kept secret and you won't see this on the menu is that the Prime Rib is "Aged". it's so tender that we decided to call it "Prime Rib Pie" They remove the bone and trim the fat and what's left is a full cut of amazing beef. While you might be tempted by other menu items, i recommend going with what they cook best and that's the Prime Rib. They also offer and delicious dessert. Enjoy! We used to love this place. It was one of our favorites. We will not be back again. The roast beef plate was so salty we couldn't eat it. My chicken was so horrible tasting I wasn't sure if it was bad or just horribly cooked. The salad was just some lettuce out of a bag with two cucumber slices and two rotten grape tomatoes. My salad dressing had a film on it (it was served in a small throw away cup). The bread was served cold like it had just come out of the refrigerator. For these prices the food should be better. The prime ribs were horribly salty as well. They did bring us a big plate of very good fries after we sent back two plates of food. Our waitress was friendly and courteous. She made sure to check in on us numerous times. With each meal you get to pick a salad and a soup. We started with a corn beef and cabbage soup. It was very flavorful. For dinner we had tried prime rib, an 8oz. Sirloin with sauteed mushrooms, fish Fry's, and spaghetti. The steak and prime rib were cooked to our preferred temperature and they were flavorful. The fish fry was enormous. One meal is good enough for two and it's only available on Friday's. The spaghetti did not have enough sauce. It was kinda bland. We also got a snicker pie. It tasted just like a snicker. It was yummy. The prices are very high. So be prepared to pay about $100 or more for four meals. Understandable considering inflation but still unfortunate. read more

My husband and I were in Mt Morris for a weekend getaway. We found this restaurant while looking for a place for dinner. It had good reviews, was the type of place that we were looking for and was only a short drive from our AirBNB, so off we went. When we pulled into the lot there were only a handful of cars and I started questioning but it was 4:30pm on a Friday so I had to keep that in mind. When we walked in we were instantly greeted by the owner who sat us right away at a table and our server quickly came over with water and took our drink order. We perused the menu and were pleasantly surprised at all the options they had. This is a steak and seafood house and boy did it deliver. We ordered a appetizer of fried cheese, for dinner I ordered the filet mignon and my husband ordered the seafood prime rib. After our server took our orders we were told to help ourselves to the soup and salad bar. Our app came quickly and our meal was perfectly timed to come when we were done with our app and salads. My filet literally melted in my mouth. It was soooooo good and cooked to perfection. My husbands seafood prime rib was, as he put it, "everything I want in a meal." When we were done with dinner our server brought over a tray of desserts...and of course we had to get one. We split a chocolate peanut butter cheesecake things that was so ridiculously good. The Lumber Yard was perfect! We went on a Sunday morning for brunch, before I walked in I thought to myself, " where am I?!?!". A small town with not alot going on but man oh man was it delicious. The Pancakes were simply amazing, they told us their secret too! Made from scratch with a little yellow cake mix added in, with blueberries as well. Fresh cinnamon buns with icing, bacon, sausage. Lumber Yard had amazing reviews so we decided to check us out. First of all, Dianne made our experience amazing. She treated us like we were her personal guests and made sure we got PLENTY of food.
