My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing afternoon at the Hawley Winery Tasting Room. The staff were not only friendly and welcoming but they didn't rush us. We could really enjoy each tasting. We also had the wonderful opportunity to meet Austin the wine maker and had some really friendly chats with everyone who worked there. As for the taste of their wines... my husband loves reds and I love whites and because we have different tastes we have never found a winery where we thought it would be beneficial to join their wine club. We loved all the wines we tried, so yes, we joined their wine club. By the time we finished our tasting, we left definitely feeling like we had made new friends. During our annual spring trip to Sonoma we visited one of our Favorite wineries. This time Gianna was our host at both the tasting room and a must do tour and lunch at the winery. We learned so much about how the wines are made and the surroundings were lovely. Starting with a sparkling wine and ending with a taste of our favorite wine made the experience magical. Wandered in around 5pm on a Friday evening. Since most tasting rooms in Healdsburg close at 5pm, Hawley is one of the few that stay open until 6. We lucked out and they were not super busy and could work us in with a tasting. Anna was our host and wine guide. We talked wine from Hawley's offerings to everywhere else in the world. We liked Anna and the wine so much that we bought some Future wine as well as a bottle of Pinot Noir to enjoy at dinner later that night. Very exciting to buy "future wine" since I've never done that before. It's their Home Blend Red which is a blend of Zin, Petit Sirah, Cab Franc and Malbec. It's a lovely wine that I thought was very nice when we tasted it ... so pretty excited to see how well it turns out once it is officially released. CHEERS! read more

So we're strolling along the square, downed way too much bbq, and saw this small wine shop. We really need a palate cleanser, right? Just looking around, yeah, sure. Cheryl, the tasting room lead, was so friendly & knowledgeable, and invitingly unpretentious. The place is small & cozy, maybe room for 6 people comfortably. To the right is the wall of wines, to the left is comfy seating, and straight ahead the tasting bar. We decided to go for the tasting. The selection was 4 local wines, Dry Creek Valley & Russian River Valley. 3 were gold metal winners. The tasting consisted of Viognier, Pinot, Zin, & Petite Sirah. The only one I didn't like was the Zinfandel, but taste is so subjective. Not surprisingly, we bought a bottle. The winner? Viognier. Turns out it's from Hawley Vineyard. Now I can drop a few fancy words at the next wine ordering opportunity. read more

As we wandered the Healdsburg square on a Saturday in May, we stumble upon this tasting room. Located off the north west corner of the square just across from The Chalkboard. The patio wasn't full at the time so we walked in to inquire about a tasting. A table on the patio was available. I can't remember the young girl who poured for us. She was pleasant and new great information about the wines she was pouring. The pours were generous and I needed her to give up a little more time to savor. A very small, but quaint tasting room that you might miss walking in Healdsburg square! But those are the best, especially if another great place (Thumbprint Cellars) recommends them. We were entertained and hosted by Brianna, one of the most enthusiastic wine staffers we've ever met! We tried a number of their wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, which were all good. Our favorites were Viognier and Zinfandel, which we bought two bottles each of. The walls are covered with Dana Hawley's art, which is very bright and vibrant, so we bought a print. Come for wine, enjoy the art! That should be their tagline, ha ha! Not enough stars!! Wine club member for many years took family and friends to pick up our club shipment and also for a wine tasting for our group of 7. My experience at the Hawley tasting room has always been great, not just the wines but all of the staff that has taken care of us throughout the years. This experience was different as Cheryl (not sure of the spelling) took care of our group. Not only was her knowledge and service above and beyond what you would expect at a wine tasting but her wit and humor was amazing. Her ability to blend in to our conversational atmosphere was terrific and hearing her life experiences was very endearing. Small, artsy, and cozy tasting room. Comfortable chairs outside like you are sitting at a porch. Their chairs are handmade. They were wine barrels!!! Inside the walls are finely decorated with beautiful paintings. My favorite is how the use the barrels panels and create lovely sceneries. Very creative. Been here 2x. Always a fun treat. Staff are always welcoming and kind. Details are everything to them... My last visit here was for Barrel Tasting 2017 with the Wine Road Event and I also had the opportunity to meet the wine maker. read more

My brother has been a wine club member here for a couple years and after a recent family vacation when he brought a bottle of Ohleman Pinot my husband and I were dying to go to their tasting room. We went on Mothers Day and it was very quiet inside. The guy behind the counter was super attentive and made sure we had a great tasting. All the art in the tasting room is painted by the matriarch of the family (so I hear). Literally every single varietal we tried we loved. I'm a huge white/rose fan and their suav, rose, chardonnay, and viognier were all hits with me. My husband loved the Ohlmen Pinot, of course but we also enjoyed their Zinfandel, too. We ended up buying a case so we could enjoy their wine for a couple months. If you haven't been to Hawley I highly recommend giving it a try. read more

Jamie was an amazing guide to becoming a wine club member for the first time! She took her time explaining everything to us, and really got to know my palate very quickly. She was kind and not pushy at all which is what I prefer in a sales person. We left with four bottles including a reserve petit sera that made me a believer. I only drink tequila and Hawley made me fall in love with wines. We went on Valentines Day and drove up there from Culver City, CA and without an appointment we were able to just walk in and were treated like family. Honestly not impressed... though both interior and exterior are super cute, the tasting room had a great vibe but wines weren't as good as expected and very limited. During our tasting that we PAID for, the pours were so small, literally have never been poured so little wine at a tasting before in my life! It must have been one sip..? Not only was the wine disappointing, we did not receive ANY direction, history, commentary, or conversation during the tasting. I couldn't tell you one thing I learned from the tasting there. Who knows?? It was the strangest experience and my group and I felt like we missed out on the wine tasting experience that is so informative generally. Hawley's viognier used to be divine. I don't know if my taste buds have changed or if the wine is just different now, but today all of it was extremely sweet. The gal who poured for us (blonde hair, dramatic eyelashes) spoke to my friend and I as if we had never tasted a drop of wine (not the case here as we are both from Sonoma County and have been drinking wine for 10 + years). After the 3rd wine/taste we knew our taste buds were not a good match for Hawley wines. We very discreetly told the server that we weren't loving what we had tasted and that we thought it would be best to stop the tasting and not waste her time or the wine. In response she raised her voice and unfortunately made a bit more of a scene than we had hoped. Other guests around us started staring (which we were trying to avoid). It was very uncomfortable. After she took our glasses and went inside I walked in to leave her some cash gratuity and got the vibe- who knows, could totally be wrong- that her and the other employees were talking about the situation at hand. Hawley sh*t! Now THIS is some excellent wine! We spend a fair amount of time wine tasting and the Dry Creek Valley has quickly become one of our favorite places to imbibe in Sonoma County Wines. Hawley's tasting room is right on the square and while some might be under the impression that they need to venture out to the vineyards to taste an excellent Zin, that is simply not the case here. We were turned on to Hawley by our dear friends who are also members. They gifted us a lovely bottle of the 2012 Ponzo Zin. It was definitely love at first swirl and sip and we knew that whenever we were back in town, we had to stop in to do a tasting. We ventured in one day and were happy to find very warm, friendly, knowledgeable folks who were very passionate about their product. Hawley makes both beautiful, full whites and reds - their Viognier being one of my favorite whites. To be honest, we haven't tasted a wine here that we haven't enjoyed which is why it took us just minutes to sign up for their wine club. Other favorites are their Chardonnays (french oak), the Petite Syrah, and their Pinot Noir. The tasting room, which is decorated with (local artist) Dana Hawley's paintings, is modern and welcoming. It's open until 6pm which is nice since many of the wineries in the area close at 4:30 or 5pm. Do not miss Hawley when you're in Healdsburg. Just be prepared to leave there with a few bottles, a toasty buzz, and possibly a wine club membership... I speak from experience. read more

When we stumbled into Hawley after a recommendation from Portulapi, we were happy we did so. The room itself is worth the stop! All the hand carved wood--surrounding the barrel-made bar in the middle of the room, the tasting bar, and the walls is beautiful. The wood gives this place a super relaxing, comfortable cozy wine tasting environment. The staff here was not your typical in-your-face, super-upseller, super high energy and friendly type of pourer-- but she was very helpful, sweet and laid back which was kind of nice for a change. A lot of their wine was good--at this point my palette was getting a little frazzled, but really, come on-- I still knew the difference between good and bad! Once again, we made yet another purchase-- the 2010 Viognier and our tasting was comped. For $5, you get to sample five different wine varieties (seems like a steal of a deal after going to the Harvest Festival where 1oz pours were between $2-3). Since it was Monday, the town was fairly quiet, as was the tasting room. Inside, liked the personal attention and the artsy, casual atmosphere. Walked away with a great, well-aged bottle of 2003 merlot, priced fantastically at $20! Can't wait to go back to the resort and enjoy it with...will need to think about the pairing later but I'm sure it'll be delicious :) read more

A family run winery and tasting room provided a great tasting experience a stones throw from our hotel. The tasting room is right off the sqaure in Healdsburg on North Street. The wines we enjoyed the most were the Viognier, the Pinot Noir, the Zinfadel and the Cab. The tasting room is comprised of art work from the wife of the winemaker as well. Hawley is awesome. It's a very relaxed environment with super friendly people pouring the wine. We went to Banshee around the corner before. Banshee is certainly more hip inside but so loud I could barely hold a conversation with my friend. Hawley's was the complete opposite. We sat outside on a beautiful day sipping wine. Francesco poured our wine and came outside to sit with us for a while. We had a great time-- I'd go back in a second! The wine was delicious and not too pricey. Hawley is, without a doubt, one of the best wineries in Sonoma County! They are family owned and it is clear that the owners genuinely care about every detail that goes into their wine and tasting room. The tasting room has a great atmosphere, very low key and dog friendly! I love all of their wines and especially love the pinots and the new vermouth tastings! Very cute and artsy tasting room. Friendly, artistic staff and a slight above average flavors of wines. I instantly became a fan of their 2013 Viognier future because it was so easy and refreshing. Had been sampling reds all day so it was nice to find a subtle fruitful white to change up the palate. They had a very peppery Zin on trial, paired with a skirt steak this Zin would find its home. During the tasting their was also a sampling of some sausages which I paired with their strong oaky Cab. The tasting room is filled with art from the wife of the winemaker: oil paintings, water brush, photos. Wine bar is made from barrel pieces. I met the artist and praised the idea of having an art gallery setup in their tasting room. Drinking wine while being visually stimulated all while eating sausages... how can you not stop by this tasting room. read more

I don't think I did this place justice and was able to take everything in. This was our 4th place to taste and I might have been a little tasted out. On that note, I will be back and this place will be 1st on my list. What I loved about Hawley was that it's a small winery and it's family run. Not only is it family run, but these people are more talented than the Wayans. I don't remember details but it was something like one relative paints, someone does woodwork, and then you throw wine in there and it's like family magic. The tasting room isn't very big. In fact, I can't think of any tasting rooms in Healdsburg that are very large. I think the overall niche here is smaller boutique wineries. Anyway. I highly recommend this place. Step outside of the Kendall Jackson norm and try something new. I think you'll like it. read more
