Over…read moretime, this mall has generally been a good spot to gather with a quality set of stores, though there's definitely a lot more competition nearby with good options in all of the surrounding shopping centers that cover all the different varieties of shops and restaurants. With lots of indoor malls closing nearby, this setup has become a bit more of a rarity, and personally I still like having a large spot with furniture to sit down at when I need to rest, a climate controlled area for when it's too hot or cold outside, and lots of fun spots to do seasonal pictures. With Hawthorn 2.0, I'm quite excited for what is to come. It looks like there will be a fresh set of solid anchors like Perry's Steakhouse, AMC, Dave & Busters, Macy's, etc. If this develops similarly to Randhurst, this would be a great spot to gather in Vernon Hills. Even before this is complete however, Hawthorn Mall has retained more quality tenants and has an overall cleaner and more modern look than some of the other indoor malls nearby. With the next closest similar offering being Woodfield Mall, this is still a fairly unique offering.

It still has some favorites like Macy's, Maggiano's, and AMC theaters. I love going to Macy's. I can always find a bargain in the Backstage area! There is something for everyone. Our latest trip took us to Tangled Roots Craft Beer & Kitchen where we enjoyed their brunch menu. Mellody Farm is home to an eclectic group of stores including HomeGoods, J. Crew Factory, Nordstrom Rack, REI Co-op, Verizon, and Whole Foods. There is also a fun vibe here. Their crosswalks have entertaining cartoon and animal characters (see pictures). Mellody Farm is a great shopping center and it comes highly recommended.

As I drove into the shopping center, I thought it was really cute and a great set up. Parking was easy, it had a good vibe, and there's a nice range of shops. I have noticed that even though this square has been reconstructed since 2000 from "Deerfield Commons", it appears to be pretty new and modern, with many upscale shops and boutiques, and a bunch of nice restaurants. In a hot summer day, the beautiful outdoor area of the square looks very attractive. I am only familiar with Walgreens, Sephora, and Fresh Foods in the mall, but the restaurants here seem to be pretty appealing too. From their directory online, there are Café Zupas, Egg Harbor Cafe, Il-Forno Pizza & Pasta, Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Rosebud, Scoops & Cookies, Tlacoyo Mexican Grill, and Whole Foods Market. The various restaurants and eateries would definitely fit different budgets and appetites. I will return with my family to explore this beautiful shopping mall further.

The employee at the register just informed me the prices are already marked down, and apparently pajamas with snowflakes on them don't count as holiday or Christmas? Those are categorized as "winter" even though I picked them up under this sign? I don't know whether the cashier was just a dull crayon, or really the signs that are all over the store are incorrect and misleading? Had another encounter tonight where I asked the price of a black hawks hoodie that wasn't marked, the guy quoted me $44 (marked down from $60) and another employee told him no that was too much and she would sell it to me for $54...... What lady? Are you Mrs. Marshall herself and get to dictate whatever price you see fit? Then to leave this experience even more pleasant I had to walk the young cashier girl thru how to ring me out. She couldn't make change on simple math, I had to explain it to her and she continued to give me way too much change saying "oh I got it"..... no girl, clearly you don't got it , and you're very lucky I am an honest person who corrected your mistake and didn't take advantage of your mistake. This store sucks, and this will be my first and last time visiting!
