The B&B consists of two suites. I'm in the Federal Suite which includes a bedroom/bath, parlour, dining room, and a kitchen. It's almost bigger than my apartment! In addition to all the comforts of home (plus a homemade breakfast made to order), the B&B comes with Jeanette, a self-described "Innkeeper/Grandma." Jeanette is an incredibly sweet woman who loves her B&B and makes her customers feel very much at home. She even called me after the first day of the bar exam to see how I was doing! This place is great! I don't know if I'll ever come back to Jeff City, but if I do, I'll stay here.

Because I'm four years old at heart, we had to stay in the boxcar on our recent Katy Trail bike ride. Location wise? Perfection. You can see the trail, you're right next to the best stop along the trail (Meriwether Cafe & Bike Shop), and right by the famous Rocheport tunnel. It's wonderful. The outside is cool too because there's a hammock and a small porch, but inside is really cool as well. Old wood floors, two loft beds and a standard queen bed. Water is potable, there's a bathroom and a shower and it's what you need. The A/C runs nice and cold and that was perfect for us on our return trip over the 4th of July. The other thing of note is that bikes aren't allowed inside, and they offer a little shed for them. Traveling by bike means that it's the most important piece of our trip and while Rocheport is a super calm, idyllic, safe place, it's still hard to just trust leaving our bikes in a shed... or at least for me to shake my city mindset of leaving a bike out. *UPDATE* We re-booked this to come as a family and it was a stellar experience. The A/C worked so well on a hot day, the hammock was relaxing and we had fireworks going off nearby. We left our bikes out, including our bike trailer and everything was fine. Love this unique spot right on the Katy, and highly recommend booking it and relaxing with the easy-going flow in Rocheport.

I'm the one who doesn't want to sit around in a room but it's so cozy and relaxing here that I don't ever want to leave. My husband and I have traveled to Europe, been on cruises, and been all around the US. The food we receive at Amber House is better than anything we have had anywhere else in our travels. We brag to everyone and tell people they have to stay here! We enjoy speaking with the owners and hearing all their stories. The highlight of this trip (314/3-15, 2021) was the farewell committee headed by their youngest son who is just as friendly and caring as his parents. We can't wait to go back to Amber House. We know we will never be disappointed!!

One restroom in particular is a great example of a very early "modern" bathroom, the tub is made of wood! The brunch was nice, the food was good. They have some kinks to work out but they admitted this was going to be a learning curve. Food tended to run low and not enough staff to refill, food wasn't always warm. On the other hand, everything tasted good, it was fresh, there was a good selection, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Worth the price of brunch and we will try it again. Get way out of the city and visit one of the nicest pre-civil war homes in the area!

They were not nosey or invasive, but they were there to provide us with fresh eggs, advice on local restaurants, and tours of the property.
