Why are they so expensive but building straight shitty...food is great , service is none and ambiance is horrible

The portions are crazy for the price you get a lot of food but you pay a little bit more than your average spot, my concern is in their fried rice. On more than 1 occasion I have gotten shrimp fried rice and not but 48 hours later it has a very strong and pungent smell that seeps through the container and it seems like whatever is mixed in coats it in a oily like substance that has a almost like a cheese pull when separating the rice grains. Fast, and delicious!!! I read a review they went up on their prices but was worth it considering the portion size. AND THEY WERE NOT WRONG! You definitely get a lot for your buck and again, delicious! It only took about 10/15 minutes if that and they made sure you have plenty of sauces and plasticware! I'd advise everyone to not eat here , hair was in my girlfriends food so we called them trying to get a refund and they barely wanted to give it on we had to go up there give them the food we barely ate back just for them to give us $30 out of the $42 meal that was ordered. We had to argue them down over there mess up to give us or money back. 0/10 don't recommend. read more

The general Tso's was the most flavorful I've had in a long while. Yummy. We also ordered the beef with broccoli, veggie lo mein, wonton soup and cheese wonton. These were also very flavorful. Do not be scared of the simple appearance of the building. Give it a try! read more

Went here last night for takeout. The food portions were huge and the food was actually quite good. We got 2 eggrolls, egg foo young, steamed dumplings and small pork fried rice. My problem is that I find their prices are way too high for me. I had calculated our bill to be about $25 dollars but it turned out to be over $40. I had used the menus on Yelp and internet to calculate cost. When I questioned the charge in the restaurant, I was shown a marked up menu (which I was unable to find anywhere on the internet) so I am attaching it here. I recently dined here after not dining here in years. I did not enjoy the chicken wings or the shrimp fried rice. There was plenty of rice, but there were few, pale and barely cooked shrimp. I will not return again any time soon. The ambience is old and outdated, but it's been that way for years. Watch out for the potholes in the parking lot. read more

The food was great! The service was faster than I expected and everything was cooked and hot. They said 10 minutes and it was ready by then. We ordered the dinner special for each one & it came out to a total of $24 which was not bad at all given the amount of food we had. Prices did go up just as a heads up if you're looking at the photos, but still worth the money for food. There's a few chairs inside that you can sit and wait if you wanted too. I've been trying to find a good Chinese place near my house that is open on Sundays. I pass by this restaurant almost everyday on my work, but by looking at the outside of the restaurant, it looks sketchy. I accidentally ordered from this restaurant for a delivery when I intended to order for a different restaurant. It was already too late for me to cancel. When my food came in, I was surprised with the big portions. The fried rice that came with my chicken wings was plenty. The food was delicious as well and is flavorful. The Lo Mein was delicious. I finally decided not to "judge a book by it's cover" and go to their restaurant. The insides were small, but they were clean. There are chairs if you are waiting for your food. Don't expect to wait too long because they can have your food ready in a few minutes. My only issue about this restaurant was the staff. They were having a hard time understanding our order and got our food mixed up. When we came back to the restaurant to have it remade (a family member is allergic to shrimp and they gave us a shrimp lo mein which was not what we ordered). The staff were arguing about it and we felt awkward. I hope we can order online for pick up so it is easier to relay our orders. Other than that, I will still come back. read more

Nah , I no cap drove past this place for YEARS just cuz of its "hole in the wall" look. If im going to be honest tho, they got the best Chinese food I had anywhere. It is really a hidden Gem. Then the Portions are wicked , like you can slick split a large plate with 2-3 people if needed. Service is quick and to the point. In my travels in the world I've noticed most of my positive experiences have been in unexpected places, this place is no exception. Hot, fresh, and expedient! This place is traditional Chinese American cuisine, and it is GOOD! Staff is professional and gets to the point, no fluff. There is an order window securing the staff from the customers, I'm guessing because of the neighborhood they are located in. Don't let the people throwing trash in the parking lot, drinking and yelling outside tarnish your experience. My advice is get the food and go. Solid 5 stars. read more

This place has been around for ever so it's pretty well known in the historic district of Portsmouth. I don't know what everyone else knows them for but I know they have the best spring rolls on that side of town. Every time I go I get at least six and they come two in a pack for $2. The place is small only enough room to order your food and wait, no seating area. The customer service is ok I've never had a problem and it's usually fast. read more

I love Hay Hing. I have been ordering for about a year and I love EVERYTHING I've ordered here so far. I've had the House Pancit (my favorite and go to item), Chicken Fried Rice, Shrimp and Broccoli, shrimp egg rolls, and crab Rangoon (which is more cheese and little to no crab, but still delicious). I drive about 15 mins to get here. I usually order when I'm walking out of the door and it is ready when I arrive. Everything is always hot and fresh. The portions are HUGE. Leftovers for at least 2 meals. The food flavors are always consistent and tastes the same regardless of when I order. This place is the bomb.
