Haydens is a great place to eat for any occasion. It's decorated like an old barn with rustic wood floors, but doesn't take the 'country' appeal overboard. It has 3 sections: a dining room, a bar area, and a small room for private parties. - Dining: Food is awesome, they just expanded their menu with a lot more selections! So if you haven't been there in the past couple months go check it out again!! PUB STICKS --- AMAZING, love them! And now they have Reuben sticks, which is like a Reuben sandwich turned into an egg roll (my husbands family loves them!). I've tried a few things: Alfredo, tortellini, wraps, burgers... all are awesome! My husband has gotten the salmon & tilapia and both were great too! Haven't tried anything I didn't like from here! The prices have increased since the new menu, but still aren't bad. - Bar area: bartenders are fast, atmosphere is laid back, you can sit at a table or dance on the floor - the jukebox has any sorta music you'd like. - Private party room: I had my rehearsal dinner here actually- close and convenient. We had a little under 40 people, did a buffet style (which came with awesome food!!), they let us bring in desserts, decorated with cute lights and table coverings, quiet - couldn't hear the bar or dining area ppl, plenty of room for everyone. Husband and I went there for the 2nd time in about a year and really enjoyed our lunch. This time, he had a burger he didn't put down until it was gone and, as always, he loves the fries. (He goes here much more often than I do.) In the past, we have both had the ribeye steak sandwich which was deliciously seasoned. This time, I had the tomato basil soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was wonderful!!! Obviously made fresh with good ingredients. The grilled cheese was ok. Would have been better if made with real butter instead of margarine or oil or whatever was used, but the bread was really good. Katie, our server, was great and managed to describe the desserts well enough to convince me to have a piece of the dutch apple pie (good sell, Katie!). Unfortunately, it was not nearly as good as the rest of the meal. The filling was the consistency of canned pie filling and very disappointing. It's food. That's it. Our hunger pains are gone, but my family of 4 left feeling unsatisfied. Alfredo- over cooked noodles, extremely small portion for the price. Just blah with a side of Walmart Texas toast. Blue Burger- average. Side of onion rings consisted of only 4. Chicken - dry - blah Salad - came right out of plastic bag with 1 cherry tomato and 2 onions. The place was cold, boring. Nobody greeted us or said bye. Charged us for a drink that should have come with the kids meal. I wish I would have traveled north and for the same price, received food that made me satisfied and happy. I ordered a steak med-rare, it came med-well. I stopped the waitress before she left our table and told her this and her response was, "and..." I told her, "and... I want what I ordered." Her response was, "So do you want to order another one?.." I repeated that I wanted what I ordered, and she then told me, "well you got to give me your steak back then." Where she took it back into the kitchen... I got my steak, correct this time, after 10 or so minutes. We did not see our waitress again until she brought our check, without asking us if we wanted dessert. It was my wife's birthday. :( read more

Always our go-too restaurant in the area. Food is consistently good, great steaks, burgers and friendly staff. Highly recommend you start with the warm spinach dip (a tasty start to a good meal). Drinks are pretty good, a little on the weak side, but good. If your in the area and want to nice place for yourself or family, I recommend you give this place a try. read more

Their food is pretty damn good for Wilmington where i've lived for a year. However! The service can blow. Long wait for just about everything. One time i got served warm shrimp cocktail and the manager who was our server was so rude. I'm still going back for the Chicken Caesar Salad for sure and the wings are pretty good and i don't eat wings that much. So all and all thumbs up for the food but down for the service. read more

Actual building....fantastic, waitstaff....sweet but inexperienced, bartenders....could be friendlier, owner.....complete a------. Since the original Chef was "caught stealing" this place has completely gone down hill! I suspect that, as unfortunate as this may sound, this restaurant won't be here for much longer. I took some clients for lunch. I told them I had been there before and the food and service was quite good. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waitress came promptly, took our order and brought our drinks. That was the good part of our dining experience. All of my guest got their food except for one of us. The waitress said she would bring it over. My guest had completely finished their lunch before the last order arrived. We took it to go and had it cold later. Waitresses seemed rushed and over worked not enabling them to give attention to their guest. I was disappointed in the service and embarrassed for bragging Haydens up to my customers. I don't know what's going on here....but it's going down hill fast. We come here fairly often, my parents live in Elwood so when costing them we come here a lot for dinner and we've been getting further disappointed each time. Mostly minor things that they end up rectifying, hey I get it, things happen. BUT on our last visit...which may be the last...we were not happy AT ALL. It was a cold Sunday night, but not scary cold like most of this winter. They were pretty busy. We walked in a noticed immediately that it was really cold inside. I'm not exaggerating when I say EVERYONE had their coats on while they ate, one women even had her winter cap on. We were sat at a table and complained asked immediately if they could turn the heat up. We were told by our server (very friendly and apologetic girl) that they were not able/allowed to touch the heat. What?! Customers are freezing their butts off. She said the OWNER , Tom won't allow it. We hemmed and hawed about leaving, but decided to stick it out after the girl was able to move us to a booth where the 4 of us could huddle together for warmth. The temperature in here was unacceptable, what's worse is that owner Tom doesn't think his customers deserve to enjoy their meals and be comfortable in his establishment. We can take our business elsewhere. We used to love coming here, but have watched the quality of our experience go down over the last 6 months or so...but there are other places to go. This last experience with the heat was like someone saying 'I don't give a care if you return' so maybe we won't. Ive had great food there but on Sundays it must be the regular cooks day off. The manager must also have Sunday off. Food was unrecognizable and service was horrendous. Waitresses were all talk amongst each other and on cell phones like they didn't have a single customer. I like this place but don't go there on Sunday!!!!!!!!!! read more

We really enjoy Hayden's, usually for lunch. Very solid burgers, some good sandwich choices, excellent service, full bar with some decent beers. Love the rustic décor, probably the best sit down place in Wilmington or Braidwood. read more

Tonight was the last night my husband & I will go to Hayden's, this being the last straw of bad experiences. This evening we walked in and stood in the area where the sign reads "Please wait to be seated" as usual we stand & wait & wait & wait. All the while being looked at by each of the servers without approach & there had been plenty of seating. One time we just left. This evening when we finally had someone approach us we were told to sit any where. After sitting down again we waited & waited & waited and finally one of the servers who was putting two tables together asked if we have been helped "No" was the answer. She was very apologetic but I did make comment that "This happens all the time". Tuesday is Mexican night & I ordered the Taco Salad & my husband the Fish Taco's. The Taco Salad was awful with barely any lettuce and this big glob of meat with cheese sprinkled on top. Not good at all nor was it what I would consider salad. The Fish Taco was just as bad because the fish looked and tasted what was cut up breaded frozen fish sticks. Unfortunately this restaurant lacks good management (poorly trained servers who stand around chit chatting at the service bar or tending to their phones) as well as menu consistency. read more

Haydens Crossing is a great place to eat. Rustic barn setting bar/restraurant. Have been there several times. Couple of times for dinner and then a few times just for a drink and appetizer. There fish entrees are outstanding. Flown in fresh every weekend. I had salmon and my friend had the marlin awesome. The other people with us had steak and they said it was really good.Pub stick are a great appetizer. Definetly worth going there. read more

I'm giving Hayden's 4 Stars for the food, and atmosphere. I have been there many times and love the ribeye steak sandwich. My wife also really likes the flat iron steak. However, if there was a separate rating for service, I wold give it 1 star. The last two times we have been there our waitress (same one) has been borderline rude. Don't know her name (she has a lot of visible tattoos - and no, I have nothing against tattoos) but she is very cold and unfriendly, doesn't seem to like to answer questions about the food or menu, and rolls her eyes and looks pissed off a lot. Very impatient, and basically unpleasant. We will go back, but I will request a different waitress if we ever get her again. read more

Hayden's Crossing is a nice place. The service is good. The food is basically good.. There fries are great, wings, hamburgers, steak sandwiches, salads are great. We had there corn beef sandwich, and it was terrible. The corn beef was sliced too thick. Very little meat on the sandwich. It came cold to the table. The bread was good. The sandwich was not cut, it was as it was just thrown on the plate. Adding more heat and throwing it in a microwave to heat it, would of made this a much better sandwich. Will never order any of there deli sandwiches again. read more

I used to go here all the time with great service and exceptional food. In the last couple months, it's really gone down hill. Was here this past weekend and watched the manager scream and cuss at an employee in front of a bar full of people. Completely inappropriate regardless of the situation. The bar cleared out quickly after this. Also, during my visit, a waitress ran outside after two customers and yelled, "thanks for the f***ing tip!" after the couple gave another employee $20 for making up for their waitress' incompetence. From my understanding, neither the manager who yelled and cussed in front of customers nor the waitress who cussed at customers have been fired. Also, two of my parties members did not receive their food. We had well over $50 in bar drinks and over $100 in food, and when we told the manager, she seemed frazzled and told us there was nothing she could do. Then proceeded to charge us for our $20 worth of drinks after telling us we would not be getting our dinner. It's a shame because this used to be one of my favorite places with the best food. It was always one of my first options. Unfortunately, I, along with the group of 12 I was with, will never be coming back after the absolute ridiculousness and awful customer service we witnessed this past week. Great hamburgers and steaks in a 150 year old, haunted bar. On Water street and Rt 53 (Baltimore St).

I just had to make it a point to take the time and shout out how awesome our night was tonight. I am in the Hospitality Industry and not a critical person. I must say that our waitress Emily is on the top of my list when it comes to customer service! I have been in this business for 35 yrs. I have visited and revisited the Mule and have always enjoyed the food. Tonight I did see a nice plate presentation accessorizing an exceptional flavored meal. The only thing I must say Our young blonde hostess in the beginning needs some training on not to critique a customers preference on seating. We asked to wait at the bar until a window was available. I don't believe she relayed the message. (she's young) I want to be sure and clear up that this was not our usual hostess "Jacquelyn" She has always been a shining star in her representation of this quality/laid back setting. She sent us off with plenty of left overs and a desert to die for. Her sense of humor is bejeweling.
