THIS IS THE BEST PLACE. We are smart enough not to drive much in SF. We are old. Parking is difficult and expensive. So our car mostly sits unless we are going out of town. We do hook it up to a trickle charge but this time the trickle charger came undone and our 10 year old battery died and went to heaven. We had some contact with Joseph, the owner, years ago when he advised us that it would be unwise getting brakes and a clutch for our 1991 Miata. Thank you. Someone focused on what is wise for me. We got a newer car, a 2015 FIT, Steeler yellow. This time, we needed a battery. I priced them at the usual spots and even, at Joseph's suggestion, tried to price them at Costco. Hayes Auto Repair's price was lower and I was confident from our discussion that he would get me the right kind of battery for our car and our driving habits. Relatively speaking, it was a tiny sale. Absolutely outstanding experience with Albert and his team. Hayes Auto repair shop helped me fix up a broken front bumper and grill. They helped take care of all the paperwork with the insurance company making the entire process far less stressful than I expected after getting in a weird accident where the person backed up into me while I was stopped. Three major things to point out - 1) The quality of the workmanship was top notch. Attention to detail was perfect - no panel gaps, paint matched, perfect replacement with materials 2) Albert was willing to go above and beyond - I had a specific bumper that was not quite OEM and Albert researched all the parts to replace it the exact way that I wanted even though it was more work. I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the exceptional service I received recently. I now understand why Hayes Auto Repair have earned so much positive feedback from their customers. My 2017 Toyota Prius was having trouble passing a smog test due to an illuminated engine check light. I initially took it to a Toyota dealer in San Francisco, where I was charged a $270 "diagnosis fee" only to be given an outrageous quote to replace the entire grill shutter. Seeking a second opinion, I randomly called several auto repair shops and fortunately found Hayes Auto Repair. From the moment I spoke with Joe, he was incredibly helpful. He patiently explained the issues with my Prius, guided me through the repair procedures with an illustration, and clearly understood my concerns about the repair cost. He provided a transparent quotation before any work began. Approximately an hour after I dropped off my car, Joe called to inform me he had identified the problem: a motor attached to the grill shutter. The very next day, my car was fully repaired without needing to replace the entire grill shutter. Hayes Auto Repair fixed my car for less than a quarter of the price quoted by San Francisco Toyota. Haye's auto repair went above and beyond to repair my car in a timely manner. Joseph is super responsive and will make sure you are satisfied with their service! Every other auto body shop I contacted in SF at the time had a huge backlog and was not able to take my undrivable car in, but Joseph was able to squeeze me in almost immediately. He had the parts ordered early to ensure there were no delays (since a lot of parts were also backordered), and had my car done before other shops would even take a look at it. I was very impressed by the turnaround speed - and this was not an easy repair (door replacement with paint touch up on panels and trim replacement). When the repair was done, everything looked good. They did a great job with paint matching (it's pretty much unnoticeable), and the car looks good as new. Joseph will make sure all the paperwork and back/forth with insurance is handled for you, and I also appreciated that he encourages his customers to text him with any questions / communication that's needed. Ladies, if you are looking for an honest and reliable place to get your car worked on, Hayes Auto Repair is it. All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW....and add 10 stars more! Due to covid we decided to go down to one car, which is a 1999 Mazda Miata...or Mazdarati to us. Now that this was to be our primary mode of transport, we decided to address the nonfunctioning driver's side electric window and the worn brakes. It also has some creaks and noises that we never had investigated. We drove it when absolutely necessary, and kept the AAA card handy, just in case. I called around to several shops to learn what their process was to diagnose the problems. ALL the other shops I called wanted + $150 just to tell me what was wrong with it. Hayes was the only shop that said the diagnostic fee would be put towards the repair. Had it been only mechanical, there would be no fee. Of the 4 phone calls that I made to Hayes in advance of bringing my car in, I was always treated with kindness and patience. When I dropped the car off, I let the owner know that I wasn't employed at the moment, and would be happy to go with used parts if that would save us money. We just needed to be sure the car was safe and functional for a year. Joe searched and found the part for half of what a new one would cost. He also explained everything in great detail and even sent photos of everything they found. When he called with the full diagnostics and prices, we weren't sure what to get fixed. Joe said "If it was my car, this is what I would get done and why." I felt like my brother was advising me. What a great feeling! When we went to pick up the car, it was cleaned from top to bottom, including removing the rust from the tire rims. I didn't even recognize my own car! There were many other kind gestures and considerations, but my review is already long enough. I have never been so pleased and relieved. Amazing job! Fast and best deal in Pacific Heights with great customer service. After hearing the cost from my dealer, I waited several months and was referred to Joseph and his team. On short notice he saw me and gave a quote which was significantly lower than I had been quoted by my dealer. The damage was a small cosmetic fix but complex my car has an unusual style.
