I've had my cars estimated at Don's a couple of times prior to my most recent visit in June. I live in the Outer Richmond, Don's is the closest AAA-affiliated autobody shop to me. Let's just say....my experience was significantly better than prior visits. Peter (new manager of the Clement campus) is fantastic. I drove my car in for an appointment 10:30 AM, and he was ready to see me. He inspected my car thoroughly, took detailed photos, did a walk around, and printed out my estimate. He was friendly and patient, answered all of my questions, and provided me various options and next steps without making me feel pressured to move forward with repairs. read more

Walking the dog on a quiet sunday morning, my wife noticed our RAV 4 pulled into the street and thought "Tracy is taking initiative and moving the car into the driveway to pack it for a trip to Portland." But as she approached, she noticed the car wasn't moving and there was nobody in the driver's seat. The bumper was on the ground, the back gate smashed into the spare tire well. Hit and run. So, I just got a new Tesla Model S yesterday. This is the widest car I've ever owned, and I overestimated my ability to adapt to it and judge distances while driving it. Unfortunately, this led to me scraping the side of my very narrow garage today. I thought I was going to cry. Everyone at work knew I had just bought a new car, and this would be extremely embarrassing if they saw how quickly I damaged it. How can I best hide this from them? I usually back into parking spots at work, so maybe I'll just park far away nose first so no one sees? Also going through my head was the possibility of not having my car for a while as the paint is being redone. I'm going on vacation next month...maybe that would be a good time for my car to be in the shop? I finally calmed myself down a little, and I remembered a body shop on Clement a few blocks away that I've driven by countless times. I then proceeded over there to get an estimate. I pulled into the garage and searched for the office. The woman inside, whose name was Cynthia told me I would need to make an appointment to get an estimate. However, I think she sensed my anxious state and looked at my car. Cynthia suspected that this was not a scratch and merely paint transfer from the side of my garage entrance. Cynthia got a cloth with some rubbing compound and started wiping the blemishes. Her instinct was correct and within a few minutes, it looked good as new. Thank you Cynthia for remedying what was a very tense situation for me! Hopefully, I don't have any auto body damage anytime soon (knock on wood), but if I do, this shop would definitely be at the top of my list for repairs. read more

Backing out of my garage, I clipped the side view mirror and the 2 piece backing came off. Unfortunately, I put the top piece back on first when the bottom piece had to be snapped in first. Couldn't get the top piece off. Went to Toy Shop; needed an appointment which they couldn't do til October. Went to Toyota dealer and they would charge $129. On recommendation of Toyota, took it to Dons where they did the work in less than 10 minutes and didn't charge me. Kudos and thank you to Dons. Top BBB well deserved. read more

Came in for a quote and the guy in the office had a rude and condescending tone off the bat. Before even seeing my quote, He told me that they were definitely going to be charging me more than my insurance estimated since my insurance uses a photo app to create estimates on repairs. He said these always, 100% of the time, are lowballs on the part of the insurance. This may be the case, I don't know. But I walked out without needing to hear anything more and without hearing their estimate because of how rude this guy was and how he told me that they would definitely be charging more than my insurance paid out before even seeing my quote or the damage to my car. read more

We took our car in immediately after a front end collision. When we dropped it off, it was clear there was something mechanically wrong (heavy vibrations, deep, low, sound, and a loud screeching noise when coasting to a stop). We confirmed with them they would have their mechanic look it over and include the mechanical damages into the estimate for our insurance. A week went by and...nothing. I called (which was a pattern...they would tell me they would call and never would) and they reported they were having trouble getting a couple headlamps. This is understandable considering the supply chain issues. I asked what they discovered about the mechanical issue and they reported "Everything is good". Surprised, I confirmed two more times when calling in for updates through out the month). They said "Our mechanic looked it over and there's nothing wrong". I figured maybe the body damage was causing all that noise...? So we waited. During that time our rental coverage was rapidly expiring. We were called in the final days of our rental coverage to be told the parts had arrived. I picked it up later that day. As I pulled away, I noticed all of the aforementioned mechanical sounds were still there! I called them from down the block and the manager sighed: "Bring it back". I lived a few blocks away so I told him I would put it in our garage and return it Monday for them to take another look (they had a MONTH!). At this point, we have no safe car to drive. I took it back Monday. When I returned in the evening they looked me in the face and said: "There's nothing wrong". This was incredulous as the car was clearly making noise right in front of them. I asked them to provide me with a rental because I would clearly need to get this fixed and they had waited an entire month, expiring my coverage, without doing what was needed to fix the car. The manager said he would need to ask the owner if they could do that. He advised me to get a second opinion. No calls back. I had to walk down and ask to meet with the manager. When asked again about this he said that he would have to ask the owner. I clarified "didn't you already ask the owner" he replied "No...we will let you know". I asked to speak with the owner and was refused. I told them this was unacceptable and they had to get the owner on the phone right away, the manager of the shop got flustered and walked out slamming the door behind him (odd customer service). He returned shortly after and got the owner on the phone. The owner, Don, said he would not cover the rental unless some thing was found out to be wrong mechanically with the vehicle. As mentioned before this was ridiculous as all you had to do is turn on the car and there was a litany of noises and vibrations that are not normal/safe in any situation. The next day I took the car into my trusted mechanic and they agreed there was clearly something going on..."likely a bent transmission mount". They referred me down the street and within 15 mins the referral found the bent transmission mount. Don's had a month to find this! Either they didn't look, or they're not qualified to do full inspections. I was told the transmission mount would take approximately 2 weeks to arrive. As previously mentioned our insurance policy for the rental coverage had expired and we were still without a safe car to drive while my wife was recovering from back surgery. After learning about the obvious bent transmission mount I contacted Don's  to explain that due to their negligence we no longer have a vehicle. Once again...no call back. After speaking with my Progressive agent he exclaimed "didn't you talk to Don? He said he will cover the rental!" So, we called Don. My agent confirmed his understanding and Don replied, "I will 'participate' in a rental". After much cajoling to get Don to clarify what this meant, he agreed to cover only one week out of the potential two. I find it incredible that after a month of having a chance to do the right thing, their policy is to only meet the customer in the middle. After being asked multiple times about the mechanical issues AND having a second chance to do the right thing, to brush a customer off to get a second opinion just to avoid doing the work if terrible. At ANY point they could have said: "We're not sure about the noise..."or had a qualified mechanic look at it...BUT to tell a customer everything is fine when it is clearly not is not just poor customer service...it's dangerous.  Remember that TWO separate mechanics were able to identify the issue in MINUTES, not a month. You may say: This is, after all, a body shop, not a mechanic. Setting aside they themselves purport to have a mechanic to triage these issues... The body work was subpar. The hood is not aligned (gaps between the hood and fenders are double what they were before) and they clearly didn't prop the hood open for long because I had to rebend the hood arm to get it to fit properly just to prop the hood open. read more

Repeat customer here. Unfortunately for me, someone rear-ended me on the freeway and dented my right rear bumper. The other party's insurance sent me to a shop that was booked too far out so I called my insurance and asked if Don's on Clement was available since I had such an awesome experience last time. Luckily they were on my AAA insurance list and I was able to get in for an estimate the next day. Luis did my intake again and like before, bright genuine smile and happy to see me despite the circumstances. Quick and thorough. Estimated fix time was 3-4 days but they finished the job in 2 days and it looks as good as new! Communication is super responsive here and it feels like going to a trusted friend. Cherie and Luis are always welcoming and the customer service is top notch. Hoping I won't need any auto fixes soon but if I do, I'll ask for Don's on Clement again! Based on CSAA's recommendation, I brought my car to Don's for body work. The initial meeting entailed photos being taken, discussion of the repairs, and time needed for repairs. Don called me within days to inform me parts were delivered and my car was ready to for repairs. They facilitated a pickup from Hertz to pick me for a rent-a-car. Sent here via AAA. I wasn't happy with huge gaps in Fenders after repair work after getting new front fender, hood and front bumper when I picked my car up. Auto tech told me "it was the best they could do." I could almost fit my finger through gap between hood and fender. I was told this was the best they could do but work was guaranteed for lifetime. A few weeks later, bumper is hanging on by a few remaining clips, I can see overspray from paint work and best of all they aren't returning phone calls. Car looks like a 15 year old street racer that needs to be retired, not a 1.5 year old car fresh back from aaa certified repairs. I was sent to their alternate location by triple a and arrived on time for my appointment. After I did my vehicle inspection and paperwork and was ready to leave, they said, "sorry we are overbooked, you need to go to Our alt location across town." What? You guys booked this appointment? Now after being here a 1/2 hour you're and doing all the paperwork You're kicking me Out? They also "forgot" to send out wheel to be remanufactured wheel. Their excuse was the paperwork was messed up when transferring shops. I will attach pics read more

What a disappointment. I needed some minor body work done to my car, and I chose them because they were near my home and I wanted to support a local business during this COVID nightmare. I went to see them, showed them the damage, and then heard nothing else. They never returned any of my phone calls, so it was clear they couldn't be bothered. Perhaps not enough money in it for them?? Anyway, I went to another shop who treated me with respect, returned my phone calls, and were eager to do the work. This place is a joke. My family's in the automotive industry in LA. I know how the pricing works. I had two jobs for them. One was an insurance payout. The other I was paying out of pocket. They quoted me $400 more for the out of pocket job with a cash payment. They wouldn't budge on the pricing at all. Even though they were getting two jobs. I took the cars up Geary to Wills and got an amazing price on the out of pocket. HALF of what Dons quoted. With warm and friendly customer service. The opposite of what I received at Dons. I cannot say enough good things about Don's on Clement. I went in at 8am sharp, and they quickly took photos and assessed the damage to our Dodge Durango's front bumper. By the end of the day, I had an estimate in my email box. The work was supposed to only take a full week, Monday to Friday, but on Thursday night they called to let me know that it would not be ready by Friday at 5pm. To make it right, Luis and staff came in on Saturday, so we could have our car to head out of town on Saturday afternoon. Eric was very professional and greeted me as I came in. I asked for a visual inspection of my Audi's suspension for I was hearing a creaking sound in my steering. After a few hours, he called me to say his inspection was done and he reassured me that everything was fine. He took the time to explain how he determined there was no need to fret after checking the bushings and usual culprits for creaking sounds. The best part is no charge. it actually hurts me to have to write this review. I was involved in an accident where another driver backed into me, causing damage to my car. That driver's insurance, AAA, recommended this shop to me for an estimate of the damages, and i was excited to go to them because the location is very close to my house. This is the only accident i've ever been involved in, so i was unsure about how to proceed with getting the estimate, the proper terminology to use, etc. The man who helped me was EXTREMELY rude, condescending, and impatient. I didn't realize that in order to get an estimate done, that AAA would have to send an "assignment" to the shop. So this man was refusing to help me until he received the assignment from AAA, so i asked him if he could call them for it. He actually huffed at me, saying it was my responsibility, but then he begrudgingly did it anyway. did i forget to mention that this whole time, he never even took 10 seconds to step out of the office to look at the front bumper of my car? after receiving the assignment from AAA, the man told me i would have to come back for an estimate and pictures, etc. I asked, since I was already there, if he could just do it then and there. there were no other cars in the shop. he said no. so i scheduled an appointment with the also rude lady that was sitting at the other desk. she just made it seem like i was making her go out of her way to do her job, when she never even had to stand up or look at me, and the appointment book was right in front of her face. so basically, i don't know what the problem was, if these two people were having a fight and i happened to walk in the middle of it or what, but the customer service was horrible and i would NEVER go back there again. from reading the other reviews it appears that this is actually a very nice couple, so again, i'm not sure if i just caught them on an off day. I have no idea how their actual service on cars is, as i ended up getting my estimate done at pierre's on irving (AMAZING). also, fyi, the hours at this shop are somewhat inconvenient-from what i understand, if you don't get your car there before 3pm in the afternoon, forget about having it looked at (i got there around 3:45 on a monday). so, take your chances, maybe you will catch these workers in a different mood. read more

Unbelievable. My truck got hit while it was parked and I was sitting in the driver's seat, across the street from my Mom's house. Geico has been effing me around and taking it's sweet time processing my claim. I wanted to know JUST FOR MY OWN KNOWLEDGE how much damage had actually been done. I looked on Yelp of course, and within a few minutes had found this place, which is in the neighborhood, and had mixed reviews, but I figured, let's try this. So I called them, and after 20 minutes of explaining to Peggy who answered the phone why I wanted to get a free estimate independent of my insurance company (because they take forever and I want to know how much the repairs are going to cost and if they might just total my truck out, why does it matter to you!?!?!) and making sure it was indeed a FREE estimate, I made an appointment for 1:30 which was about an hour and a half later that day. When I showed up at the shop, it took me a few minutes to figure out where to go to inform them that I was there for my appointment. Then, upon meeting Peggy face to face, she was incredibly rude and condescending and told me about 40 times in a minute that this wasn't going to count for my insurance. I politely assured her that I understood that and that this was simply for my own knowledge and records. Finally she called the guy who would inspect my truck, an older asian man named Darryl. Amazingly, he also felt the need to tell me 400 times that my insurance wouldn't accept this estimate and yadda yadda. Of course, politely, I told him that this was just for my own info. Begrudgingly, he did the estimate, and was pretty cool after that, but JEEZ. I really don't know if I'd recommend this place. I went there hoping for a neighborhood vibe, and got a snotty, you're barely worth our time attitude. If you do go there, avoid Peggy at all costs. read more
